CHAPTER TWO
A ‘SLIP’PERY MISTAKELAURA’S POVWhat did he think he was doing? Even if he knew what I did in my private life, how much sense does it make to see a grown man like him talking gibberish like this?“Why would you say that?” Anselm said, and everyone at the table looked shocked as if they were torn between believing and not believing.“That is very rude. Apologize to Laura right now,” Anselm said, and there seemed to be a mental standoff between Sebastian and me.“I am sorry. I did not mean it that way.”I was offended, so I was not going to back down.“How exactly do you mean it?”He threw his hands in the air, and Chris cleared his throat. The tension in the room was enough to make everyone feel uncomfortable, but for some time, he didn't know me to sort himself out like that in front of my mum and his handsome brother, not that I cared about making such an impression on his father; I did not think it was cool.“I apologize on behalf of my brother; he can be very insensitive and playful sometimes. Pay no attention to him.”That made me calm down without any anger left in me.“So, tell us, how's your internship application going, still considering HR at your dad’s?” Anselm asked.I cleared my throat. I did not like the fact that my mum told him so much already, but it did not matter.“I haven't made a decision yet, and I’m afraid I might not make it on time.”“You know, sometimes I wonder what is wrong with kids these days and why they don't seem to take things as seriously as we did in our days.”“I think Laura should take her time and make her decision,” Chris said, and I smiled at him. “But if you do consider another option for a location, you should try to intern at our company. We have the best team, and I do not doubt that you will do very well with them.”“I will think about that,” I said with a light smile.“So, I hear you are a finalist in the university; how is that going for you?” The annoying brat asked.“Very well, thank you,” I said between my teeth. I did not want to sound rude, but if he makes any comment that does not make sense to me again, I will not take it easy on him.“I’m doing a kind of publicity among students at your school in the next couple of weeks, and I heard you’re interested in marketing and media, so maybe you could gain some experience working with my team.”“That is so nice of you, Sebastian. I guess that is his way of saying he's sorry.” The last part was directed at me, but I knew what my mum meant.“Thanks, Sebastian. I will consider that too. I think I have lost my appetite and would like to take a little walk around.”“You just got here; are you sure you’ll be fine? The estate is quite big,” Chris said.“Perhaps you'd like to come with me.”“That would be nice actually; you could spend some time bonding with him. Perhaps Sebastian would…”She was trying too hard to outdo me with this guy, but honestly, the impression I already had of them would last, so there was no point in doing this.“I think I’d rather go alone.” I stood up and began to walk out of the dining room. I could hear them talking behind me, but I could not understand what it was.All my life, my mum has always protected me from everything, and the one thing she just won't let me have was the reconciling of her relationship with my dad. At first, I was upset about it, but I realized that they were adults, and they could make their own decisions.Sebastian struck me as the stuck-up type and someone I would like to stay away from, although I was very curious about him, I was more interested in his brother than him.Yeah, I realize how crazy that was, but I was not about to start making sense of my feelings now. My phone rang, and I looked at the caller to see that it was my dad.“Hello pumpkin. How is dinner going?”“Disastrous,” I said as I looked at the face of my dad, which popped up on the screen. He looked like he was in a plane, probably traveling for business.“Tell me about it; are you okay?”“I am now. There was an annoying fool, Sebastian, Anselm’s younger son, who said something really stupid.”“So, what did you do, and most importantly, what did he say?”“Dad, you know I no longer do bad things, don't you?”“I know, love.”“Well, he called me a snob.”“Oh no, he didn't!”“Well, I could not help it; I was so angry at him, especially because I did not want to break Mum’s heart.”“I sense something else there, my daughter.” He said with a smile. He knew me too well, but I had no plan to tell him what was going on in my mind because even he might not indulge in that.“Nothing else, Dad. I don't think he and I will get along, although they are all giving me options for my internship.”“They seem nice.”“Yeah, but I wish we stayed together, and maybe if you guys had decided to give me an easier sibling, I might be as happy as they are.”“Congratulations! Your mum made the smart move and got you two brand new brothers.”“You talk as if brothers are something I could buy or something. I do not even like Sebastian.”“Seeing as you are expressing your strong dislike for the younger brother, I take it you like the elder…”“No!” I was startled because my mind went somewhere else when he said that, but I immediately recovered my composure, although I might have given away more than enough.“I think he’s cool.”“I have to go now, cupcake. I will talk to you as soon as I get to my hotel. I love you.”He blew me a kiss before hanging up. I was standing beside the pool, and as I looked at the screen of my phone, I heard a voice behind me.“So, you think I’m cool?”I screamed in shock and lost my footing, falling into the pool.CHAPTER THREEPRINCE CHARMING TO THE RESCUELAURA’S POV“Oh my gosh! You scared me,” I said as he helped me out of the water. I could see that he was trying his best not to laugh, but eventually, he yielded to the urge and began to laugh.“Were you scared because I have just heard you confess that you think I'm cool, or because you weren't expecting anyone to come after you?”“Both.”“I’m sorry about that. For eavesdropping on your conversation and shocking you.”“It’s fine,” I said, and then I noticed his eyes had drifted towards my gown, which was now very transparent and sticking to me due to the wetness. I looked at him and cleared my throat.“Take my jacket; you can return it after you have changed into something dry,” he said as he gave me his suit jacket, and I nodded with a smile as I headed into the room. We will have to go to their home tomorrow, and I wonder if they have a vacation house this luxurious, how much would their real home be worth? Not that any of these freaks m
CHAPTER FOURPLAYING NICESEBASTIAN’S POVLast night had been more interesting than I thought it would be. Originally, I only woke up late for dinner because I had thought it would be no fun. Although Dad and Arya have been going on for a long time, now And I knew they had to be very serious about tying the knot, but I knew it was another avenue for them to talk about my brother, and I had not found someone to marry or even talk about getting married. That was not a discussion I wanted to have, especially with strange people at the table.Seeing her again after two years was a surprise to me. I had met her on a dating app a few years ago when I almost gave in to Dad's pressure for me to get married. I also thought it would be a good thing to show my mum something new, although who was I kidding?Something happened to Mum that day we were supposed to meet, and that was the last time I heard about it. Now, in this age, finding someone was as easy as it could get, but that would be when
CHAPTER FIVEMAKING AN ENEMYLAURA’S POVChris had been so charming last night that I was so sure I would call him, and he would come running immediately as soon as he could. But to my surprise, I called him, and he wouldn't pick up, and when I was directed to voicemail, I sent him a message, but there was no reply. After calling the third time, a female voice picked it up.“This is the CEO’s phone; he said to tell you he would call as soon as he was free.”“Oh, okay. Thanks.”I sank onto the pavement, seeing how the only chance I had to reach my class, which would start in thirty minutes, was gone. I should have brought my car.I began to walk towards the gate, but suddenly, I cried out in frustration. What is the use of waking when I knew it was hopeless?“Need my help now?”I heard the annoying voice ringing in my ears as I buried my face in my palm and looked up. I am not sure I will ever be this relieved to see him again, so I immediately rushed to the side of the car.“Please,”
LAURA'S POV.“Why on earth would you say such a thing about your sister?" My supposed new father had asked, and I fiddled with the hem of my dress, failing to match the criticizing gaze of my mother, who was absolutely not pleased with the recent turn of events.“Please tell me, what is it I lied about? Will you ask Leek Moss' step sister over here?” Sebastian teased again, leaning closer to my table. He pulled out his chair hastily and sat on it, facing me while I swallowed a lump in my throat. Uneasiness washed through me, and I was not too certain what to think or how to handle it.“Stop this nonsense this instant; Laura is your sister; you will treat her like one rather than pin all sorts of tales on her, " the father retorted, swallowing hard.“No, how about we let Laura speak? I do know I raised her right, but Sebastian's hair has a reason why he stated that he did.” She asked again, narrowing her gaze down to me.I sighed, panting heavily. I didn't want to be screwed over, and
LAURA'S POINT OF VIEW.Thank you so much for a warm welcome.I sat by the table, beneath their pinning gazes, with Sebastian directly opposite me, father at the head of the table, and a woman who certainly hated my guts sitting south of the table.Supposedly she was meant to be the step mother I should know about.Mother had spoken to me before bed. Reminded me that I was to meet with the previous wide this morning, I expected s lot from hee but Jo doubt she hated me, I didn't like her either,At least that was something we both understood at the point. Each one of them stared at me and exchanged glances continuously. Although I couldn't lie, I stole several glances at the father himself, one of the greatest alpha assesses out of the blue, my father. I always admired him. For his ruthlessness and, of course, how firm he was in his words. He had worked so hard to gauge himself's name that no one dared defy or disobey. I !Made some research about him overnight and he happened to be
LAURA'S POV.I pushed my orbs open, a light yawn based through my lips. I fluttered my eyes, turning my gaze around, unable to understand where I was or how I had gotten there. I swallowed hard, rolling around in bed. and then I recalled it: I was no longer the usual poker hopeless and helpless Laura. My mother has remarried. I was longer in our little house; I now lived in a mansion. The curtains pushed open as a blinding ray of light shot at me, deeply groaning inwardly at the sudden situation of things. This wasn't how I planned it all out.I pulled the covers up from my head,"Mother, you can't keep doing this; I'm all grown now.” I complained, but then stopped in my words. I gasped from surprise, only for my eyes to match with Sebastian's scrutinizing gaze; he wasn't pleased, yet more than that heat flushed through my cheeks, feeling really embarrassed. I swallowed hard, not caring to speak out of line.“I'm sorry, I had no idea.”“That it wasn't mommy?” he asked, sarcasm laced
LAURA'S POV."Well, don't you just stand there and gawk shamelessly? You are late, and good riddance if you think I'll pull some special strings just to make sure you get into school.” sebastain explained.I could see the frown he had; he wasn't pleased, and neither was I to him, who only arched me, his eyes filled with amazement while I hopped in the car.“And you go on, get out, be back late tonight. Laura will get home earlier than I would, so I suggest by every means that you both find a coup to cover up or something,” he explained. The more he spoke, the more I realized how much of a cry baby he really was. I was amazed, truth be told, and taken by surprise, but it was not that I had not expected Sebastian to be so acoustic. The last I had seen was Chris passing me a faint smile right before Sebastian slammed the door to the car with every form of gruff and snogging attitude he had to offer.“Driver, please don't be late; let's push up the ride a bit. Our little sister here does
LAURA'S POVA knot tied in my belly on hearing his words, I couldn't help avert my gaze over to him, and then back to that of the building.“You own the school?” I asked again, uncertain if this was one of his plain ass jokes heavy on sarcasm or if he was just wealthy.“You forget how rich I am, sister; you'll get used to it. My father bought most of the shares for Me when I was just nineteen, and I bought the entire shares when I was twenty. I own the school, although only a few important people know about this.” He explained dropping the bombshell on me.I watched as he peered his gaze into the wristwatch strapped to his left wrist before raising his eyebrow.“Well, shall we? I have ten more minutes to get on the road. I've got a busy schedule today.” He asked me. Already sticking to his feet while speaking, not once did he glance back to check my reaction or whatever words it was that I had to say.“Speaking of which, what's your type of car, like the ones that strike your fancy?”
Sebastian 'S POV.“Are you happy with me, laura ?" I asked out of the blue as soon as she walked out if the bathroom was dabbing her hair with a towel. She tilted her head slowly, her eyes pinned in my direction, probably losing sight of words.“What... what do you mean?” She asked again while pulling closer to me. Her head rested against my chest while a smile pushed up to her lips.“The wedding, being my bride staying with me, are you happy about all of this or are you staying with me because of the baby?” I asked her, putting out my worry and, truth be told, signing the marriage papers with her as we stood on the podium. I was worked up, and hearing the judge call us husband and wife had worried me a whole lot, but I knew it was probably tension of being! arrived again after so many years.Yet there she was, beaming with smiles all through, not for a bit showing any form of panic.I didn't want to let my words or thoughts get to the best of me, and I could not help but unwind my he
CatherineI couldn't understand where the problem came from! The week ran by real fast for Chris and me, but I realized two nights ago he had gotten a call from Matt, which made him really screwed up.Matt and I weren't on the worst ends ever, truth be told, although it did bother me seeing how things wound up. I didn't like his gloomy vibe.I dabbed my hair with a towel continuously before getting closer to him. For a kiss, he pulled away from a frown on his face.“Not now, Catherine ." He uttered a stoic expression. On his face, so far he wanted to have fun. I shrugged my shoulders before pulling myself into my flip-flops.“Suit yourself.” I responded before dragging my feet grudgingly towards the waiting room.I picked up my phone and surfed through my messages terribly bored.Glancing behind me carefully, sure that Chris ’ was not around, I surfed deeper into my phone, going through my private chats on Snapchat.Everyone else had texted me, some bunch of DMS, some other thirst
Catherine 's point of viewA yawn eased through my lips while I rolled through to the other end of the bed. My hands tapped slowly against the body, just like they had usually done. But there was nothing there.I parted my eyes and brows hastily, and the first thing my eyes landed on was the huge mirror.Right across the room, my very own reflection mocks me. I looked like a mess.A sigh eased through my lips while I pushed further away from the bed ; I wasn't getting it. What could possibly be wrong such as that Henry didn't sleep home the previous night. On my first attempt at trying to collect the memories of the previous occurrences, but then I felt an insane urge to retch, I picked my head towards. While I spilled out all the contents in my belly, retching terribly, I turned on the tap in the sink to have my face wiped. And then it dawned on me...“Matt!” I blurted out all at once, darted towards the door, and I dashed out of the room. My eyes scanned through the environme
Catherine 's POV.I turned on the tap in the sink, sure to have satisfying noises like puking and gagging coming out loud from the bathroom. A sly smile pushed up my lips while I washed off my face and began to pant hard and breath heavily. I drew closer towards him right outside the door with shaky feet.“Can you please help me get a room? I don't feel too good. I need to rest.” I muttered beneath my breath; my voice was shaky and my tone was thinning out at the end, all in an attempt to convince him.He looked just like he had bought my entire act, judging from the worried look in his eyes.“How about I drive you home instead? You can pick up the car later tomorrow. He offered just like I expected, but I wasn't stupid enough when planning ahead to use the rain as some dumb excuse.“Henry , he's out. He went off. I don't know why , who, or where he went off to or is off to see and staying home alone won't do me any good; perhaps you could wait for a few minutes; when as soon as the
CLAIRE's POV.A knock settled on my door and a frown was quick to etch onto my face while I pondered hard and fast about who it could be, I had been tucked up in the fucking room doing nothing at all along, every damn day it was the same. The knock became persistent, and I pushed my feet reluctantly towards the dash cam. I had not been expecting anyone's texts or calls; or bits so far, I wasn't involved in the neighborhood or building as a whole; it was something that anyone had to do or say but not from my end. Besides, I had no friends, and no one knew I moved here except……“Henry ?” I asked while I pushed open the door.. He seemed to be pissed and restless while he pushed himself right through my door before settling into the couch. He had said nothing while I bolted the door locked, my eyes scanning across the room, which was in a terrible state.. I had not expected any visitor to come in by any means. I was not informed.“You didn't call..” I stuttered, seemingly surprised..
Laura's pov.I could see him avert his gaze away from mine as soon as our eyes locked, for some reason an unsettling feeling got stuck at the pit of my belly and it made me wonder how and why I was stuck up on things like this. Was he still being a cry baby because I solely refused to eat with him in public at the company?.“Good morning sebastian .” I greeted as soon as he made way towards the elevator and I followed behind him, he had said nothing even when I smiled from ear to ear,I knew I should not have requested things that made him feel petty and yes, I was terrible at explaining feelings, I could have just told him I was never good with taking things from people without doing anything for them in return, but then again, I should never run my opinions against anyone else.I swallowed hard, wallowed in my own self pity as I recalled how hard it was for me to sleep last night, been in a strange house really did take it's roll on me, Emily and I had barely gotten chance to talk,
laura s point of viewI shifted in my seat, my eyes pinned against the file placed in front of me, while I stuck up the ends of the pen into my teeth. I had been pondering the whole day on how to thank Sebastian ; he had been nice enough, and I had sent him off in a rather hasty manner the previous day, which probably registered me as nothing better than a weirdo to the public as a whole, although I knew I needed to make certain amendments.“laura ?.” a voice called, drawing me out of whatever fancy land I had been drawn into.“Yes, how may I help you, please?. '' he asked with a smile settled on my face as I responded to the young man who stood before me. He worked with Sebastian , so I knew almost immediately that it was related to him already.“Mr. Sebastian had asked for you, so I think it's in your best interest that you check with him right now; it seemed urgent.” He added at the end of his words and turned down his feet even before I got a chance to respond.I stood to my fee
laura 's point of view It's been four weeks already, Four weeks after Sebastian had asked me out , four weeks of pure Bliss and happiness he loved me just as much as I loved him. We both had no intention of putting a leash on our emotions. “What do you think?.” I asked and swirled right in front of him, he looked rather exhausted but I wasn't done. “this is the one, it looks perfect I mean, it's the best it brings out your eyes and all.” he complemented with a smile, I turned my gaze from the mirror and glanced at him, slowly I approached him. “My eyes are blue, this dress is green, it does not bring out my eye color Sebastian , I told you to pay more attention to the color stripes, the design of the folds and curves of the dress.” I complained. A giggle came on from the other end, I glanced up and several workers scurried away in haste as they realized I caught them off guard. “Are we not done yet?.” Sebastian asked lazily but I rolled my eyes in my head , drew cl
“Get away from me, you creep!” Emily screamed as soon as she pushed her eyes open. A sudden heavy migraine attacked her as soon as she had spoken, and just then did she realize how much alcohol she had drank the previous night. Dustin, on the other hand, split his eyes slowly, rubbing slowly on his orbs, trying to recall the compelling situation he found himself in. He recalled drinking a little the previous night, and then the new cycle followed up; they had a few more drinks with laura , yet as soon as laura made her way out of the house, she realized what a great deal of fun they were having and then drank some more. Then, after three asn, he had not stopped. He won't necessarily be expected in the office. Although he knows things might get awkward between him and laura , which is why he lied about having a thing or two to do, I was hoping that eventually, if she came to push, the entire thing would be off their shoulders. He took a quick glance around, his mind laced wi
