Chapter 630

Author: Feminine Blade
Stefan's words drenched Millie from head to toe like a bucket of ice water.

She was at a loss for words. Her hands and feet were frigid. She felt as if she had fallen into an abyss.

"We've been going around in circles, but you've finally come back to me, Millie," Stefan dotingly said, giving her an affectionate look.

He reached out, wanting to touch her face, but Millie instinctively stepped back and avoided his touch. His hand remained suspended in midair, looking stiff and awkward.

Millie spat, "I agreed to be with you, but that doesn't mean I'll do whatever you want. Don't touch me, or I'll kill myself right in front of you. Don't think I don't know how much you've interfered in this incident.

"You want to see Pierce suffer just as much as those people do. Even if I can't be with him, things between us can never go back to how it once was. Do yourself a favor and give up on your wishful thinking."

"So what? As long as you're not with him, that's all that matters. If I can't

Millie might've physically been there, but her heart wasn't in the conversation at all. Stefan was talking to her, and she would respond to him sometimes, but she didn't hear a word he said.Stefan had tried everything he could to make her happy with him again. He'd say, "Take a look at this. I made this cake for you myself. You'd make these for my birthdays. Do you remember that?"I have stomach issues, and I'd be in pain for hours after each business meetup. You would sit on the couch and let me rest my head on you while you massaged my belly. "Do you remember the time when I was almost assassinated? You said that we would live or die together and that we would stay by each other's side forever."You told me that you loved me, Millie. Don't you remember any of these?" As far as Millie was concerned, Stefan was dull and tedious. She told him that he shouldn't get hung up on the past and that he should look to the future instead. However, he was stuck in a loop and kept chasin

It was hard for Millie to say what she had just said. "What are you talking about, Millie? Are you aware that Pierce ignored his injuries just to see you?" Not even Tobias could contain his anxiety. "Why won't you leave with me, Mills?" Pierce hastily asked."What kind of question is that? Don't you have any clue? You've got too many enemies who want to take your life now. My life is constantly at risk if I stay with you. And let me tell you, I'm done living in fear like this. "That's why it's over between us. Take my advice, Pierce. Stop trying to be a hero and make yourself more enemies.""What did Stefan say to you?" Pierce frowned and intently stared at her. Millie replied, "All he did was analyze the pros and cons for me. I might die before my time if I'm with you. I have nothing to do with your enemies, after all. I'm innocent."Pierce. You can't give me the life I want. I'm just exhausted. So, this is the end of it for us." When Millie was done talking, she immediat

Stefan enunciated each word as he spoke. The fact was that he had other choices, and they were far nobler than the path he was currently on. However, Millie wasn't a part of them. Just the thought of not having her in his life made him shudder. Stefan wanted Millie for himself, and he wanted Pierce to suffer. Before long, Mark brought the drug over. Stefan then instructed Edith to spike Millie's food and beverages with it every day. It'd take the drug no longer than two weeks to achieve its purpose. By then, it'd be almost time for Pierce to be discharged.Soon, Millie came to realize that her appetite hadn't been good as of late. She couldn't eat much, and her head felt heavy after each meal. On top of that, she kept getting the urge to sleep. She believed that she was easily tired because she didn't have enough nourishment. However, she couldn't even get restful naps. It felt like someone was murmuring next to her ear, and sounds constantly rang in her head.Over two week

Back then, Stefan had brought a police officer with him when he'd rescued Millie, and that officer was none other than Pierce. Millie instinctively got up and moved toward Pierce. It had only been a year since she last saw him. How was it that he seemed so miserable now?For some reason, Millie's heart ached.Suddenly, Pierce gripped her wrist and snapped her out of her thoughts. Millie realized that her reaction wasn't normal. Upon seeing the close distance she'd put between herself and Pierce, she realized that she'd overstepped her boundaries a little too. Immediately, she composed herself."What did you just call him?" Stefan questioned."O-Officer Atkinson. You brought him along when you rescued me on the ship," Millie mumbled. Stefan's face immediately darkened. When he'd recounted the tale to Millie, he didn't say a word about Pierce. He would've thoroughly wiped out Pierce's existence from Millie's memories if he could. Now, it seemed like Millie was the one w

"If it wasn't you, then who could it have been?" Millie's eyebrows knitted tightly, and her head hurt so much that it felt like it was splitting apart. Millie hammered her temples in agony. Heartbroken at the sight, Stefan grabbed her hand and said, "I recall it now. I do have a cream allergy. I just forgot about it for a second. "Look at how forgetful I am. When things pile up, I can't remember anything.""Really?""Of course. Who else could it have been?" Stefan was right. Aside from him, she wouldn't have known about anyone else having a cream allergy."Eat the cake." Stefan lovingly rubbed Millie's head. So, Millie let go of her skepticism and chowed down the cake. Stefan stared at her intently as she did so. However, in the sleeves of his coat, his fists were balled. He might've manipulated Millie's memories, but she still held onto some details. She still remembered who Pierce was and that he was allergic to cream. "Do you personally know Pierce?" Stefan hesita

Millie was terrified. She hurriedly turned her head to the side and avoided his lips. In the end, Stefan only managed to kiss her cheek."L-Let me go. I'm not ready, Stefan," Millie said."Don't you know how much I love you, Millie? Give yourself to me, alright?" Stefan rolled over and pinned Millie beneath him. Then, he recklessly pulled her shirt apart. Angered by his actions, Millie slapped him without a moment's hesitation. The sound of her palm connecting mercilessly with his cheek reverberated in the whole room. Stefan was dumbstruck, and so was Millie. Then, she looked at her hand in a daze."You…"Millie had no idea what she should say to Stefan. Summoning her strength, she pushed him off of herself before frantically fleeing to her room. Millie had no idea what she was terrified of. The only thing she was sure of was that she didn't like it when she got too intimate with Stefan. She believed that she must be sick, but she couldn't pinpoint where her illness was

There was an unspoken agreement between Millie and Stefan—they avoided talking about what happened last night. "Can't I go outside?"Stefan was going to Leach Group to work, but Millie was forbidden from moving about. "I'll get off work earlier and take you out to dinner," Stefan answered."But…""Be obedient, Millie. You still haven't fully recovered, and I can't help but worry about you. What if you go out by yourself and get hurt?""Fine, then."Stefan had her best interests at heart, which made it hard for Millie to reject him. After he left, Millie was bored out of her mind. She didn't have her own job, and she had always revolved her whole life around Stefan. So, why did it bother her to stay home now? That was when she thought of Sharon, her best friend. Sharon was a journalist, and she always had scoops about the entertainment circle. Sometimes, chatting with her proved to be particularly amusing. So, Millie gave Sharon a call. However, the latter hung up on h

However, Millie's call was rejected. She was stunned. Was it because the person on the other end of the phone didn't take calls from unknown numbers?Millie couldn't hold back her curiosity. She didn't understand why she remembered this person's phone number by heart. So, she dialed once more. Millie thought that she would forget about it if the person still refused to answer her call. After all, she couldn't fight fate. If fate didn't want her to get in touch with that person, she would no longer dwell on the strange number either.During her second call, Millie heard nothing but the ring tones. This time, the person didn't reject the call, but they didn't answer it either. The call just kept going and remained unanswered. Seconds passed, then minutes. Just as Millie thought the call was going to automatically end, the person picked up their phone. Millie was so nervous that her heart almost skipped a beat. "Who is it?" a man's deep and hoarse voice sounded from the oth

Millie gently closed the box.Suddenly, a single tear slipped down, landing silently on the surface. Only then did Millie realize that she had been crying. She wasn't sure if she was mourning the love she once had or if her tears were for something else entirely. No wonder Pierce had told her to look at it in private. He didn't want to see her shedding tears for another man."It's all in the past. Why send this now?" Millie murmured. She wiped away her tears and picked up her phone. "Tobias, do me a favor. Auction something for me. Donate every last cent of the proceeds to charity. Not a single penny should be kept."She then ended the call and looked at the small box again. At least this way, it would be put to good use…Afterward, Millie headed to the study to check on Pierce. He watched her closely, his deep eyes unreadable.Millie pretended not to notice and said, "You keep working. I'm just going to sketch for a while."Pierce pressed his lips together as if he wante

Millie followed Pierce back home. As she stepped into the familiar space that belonged to just the two of them, her heart felt heavy with emotions. It had been two months since she had last been here, yet everything remained unchanged. Even the wardrobe had been stocked with new seasonal outfits. In those two months, Millie had lost a lot of weight. So, Pierce instructed the kitchen to prepare nourishing meals for her. He was determined to bring her back to full health.Pierce remained bedridden for another half month before he could finally use a cane to walk around a bit. His right leg was still severely injured, and every step sent searing pain through his body, making his face go pale and his forehead damp with cold sweat.Millie couldn't bear to watch him suffer and urged him to rest. But Pierce was stubborn and walked until his legs trembled, and he could no longer stand. Only then would he sit down."Does it hurt?" Millie worriedly asked."It doesn't. I just need to pr

With that, Millie turned around and left without hesitation. But just as she was about to step out of the room, Stefan's voice called out behind her once more, "Millie, I owe you an apology for everything. I never really said it before. It's late… but at least I'm finally saying it. "Millie, I'm sorry. I was the one in the wrong." Stefan's voice was soft, weakened by his injuries. It sounded as though those few words had drained all the strength from his body.Millie's body stiffened, and her hands were tightly clenched into fists at her sides.Stefan was apologizing at long last.Millie wanted to turn around to see if he was truly sincere or if this was just another one of his manipulations. However, she held herself back. Unimportant people didn't deserve even a second glance.Millie didn't say anything. She didn't say whether she would or would not forgive him. She just walked away.Stefan's face turned even paler. He knew that after everything he had done, he would never

Millie didn't want to see Pierce struggling alone, bottling up all his pain like a wounded lion licking its wounds in solitude.Upon hearing her words, Pierce simply tightened his embrace around her. "Mills… I'm scared…""I know. I understand," Millie whispered, gently patting his back."I'm afraid I won't be able to lift you anymore, and I'm afraid I won't be able to run or jump. I'm scared I won't be able to fight the bad guys and protect you anymore." Pierce's voice was soft and barely above a whisper. His sorrow was almost imperceptible, but it could be because he still hadn't fully released his emotions.Millie started, "You still have me. If you can't carry me, then don't. If you can't run fast or jump high, then I'll slow down and walk beside you. I can be your crutch and your support for a lifetime, okay?"And listen, Pierce, you may not be able to fight on the front lines anymore, but you're still there in spirit. Pierce didn't tell Millie everything—such as the fact that Stefan had initially wanted to kill him. He spared Stefan some dignity, not wanting Millie to hate him forever.Millie stayed in the hospital to care for Pierce for two days when there was finally a change in Stefan's condition. Before he even regained consciousness, he was already calling her name. Robin anxiously rushed in to find Millie, and she hurried over."The patient's wound has gotten infected, leading to complications. We need to start emergency treatment immediately!""How could this have happened? Wasn't he supposed to wake up?" Robin was beside himself with worry."Millie… Millie…" Even in his fevered delirium, Stefan kept murmuring her name.Millie went over to him. His hand, which had been weakly grasping at the air, finally caught hold of something—her fingers. He clung to her tightly."I'm here, Stefan," she softly uttered. It was as if her words held some kind of magic, as Stefan immediately calmed d

Every word Pierce spoke was firm and impactful. Each word hammered on Stefan's heart mercilessly.Pierce owned up to his mistakes. But what about him? Could he do the same? All this while, he had been shifting the blame to everyone else. He blamed Pierce for stealing Millie away. Then, he blamed Millie for not forgiving him. He even blamed Wanda for seducing him, and the list went on…He had blamed so many people, holding onto their faults while conveniently brushing aside his own. When it came to himself, he always found a way to justify his actions. He completely ignored that he was the true cause of everything.Stefan's grip on Pierce's collar loosened. He took a few steps back in a daze and stumbled on his own feet, causing him to nearly fall to the ground."Those criminals… They're planning to strike again. I agreed to help them," Stefan said."Why are you telling me this?" Pierce responded."She said… She said that if you died, she wouldn't live either." Stefan's voice was

Millie gave Pierce a profound look that contained a myriad of emotions. Pierce could have been selfish and not tell her any of Stefan's good deeds. He could've even stopped her from visiting Stefan. Yet, he didn't do that. After giving Pierce one heavy nod, Millie went over to the adjacent hospital room.Stefan was seriously injured too. His health wasn't as good as Pierce's to begin with, so he still hadn't woken up yet.Robin was in his room, sitting beside him. He kept silently wiping away tears at one side."This is my only nephew. If anything were to happen to him, how would I face his late parents?" Robin mournfully said."Does Grandma know about this?" Millie inquired."I don't have the heart to tell Mom about this. She's old and frail. I don't want her to have a breakdown," Robin replied."I'll keep him company, Robin," Millie said.Robin hesitated for a moment and ultimately nodded. He believed that Stefan would want to see Millie upon waking up. So, Millie staye

"Don't move around. You're still very weak. The doctor said to give you some oatmeal porridge when you wake up. Your digestive system is still quite weak, so you need to eat something that goes down easily."A familiar voice sounded in Millie's ears."G-Grandpa? Why are you here? Where's Pierce? Pierce? Pierce…" After a moment of silence, Millie mumbled, "I forgot… Pierce is dead. Not even his body remains.""What nonsense are you speaking, child? Isn't he lying right beside you?" Bill interjected.Millie visibly froze for a second. Then, she whipped her head around to look. As Bill had said, Pierce was indeed right beside her. Layers of gauze were wrapped around his body, and he seemed to be heavily injured. However, his vital signs were steady, and his heartbeat was rhythmic—he was no longer in a critical condition."Pierce…" Millie tumbled out of bed without a care for the pain in her limbs.Bill quickly went over to support her and combined their beds together."H-How is t

Millie broke down emotionally. She was done with Stefan's constant self-righteous justification. He always blamed everyone else and deemed himself free of any wrongdoing. He acted as if the whole world had wronged him, while he had never wronged anyone. He painted himself as the pitiful and innocent victim, twisting logic to justify everything he did.Millie was done acting her part. She would let things play out however they should. There was no longer anything tying her to this world. If anything happened to Pierce, she wouldn't live either. Just the thought of being imprisoned by Stefan for three years was worse than death. And so, she locked herself in her room and refused to come out. Every day, the housekeepers delivered her meals. She had no appetite but still ate well.Millie also no longer cared whether Stefan had drugged her food or not. If she turned into a mindless lunatic, maybe that would be better than this painful clarity.…Days passed one after another. One
