~Hayden’s POV~

The dining hall was silent when I stepped in. A maid was in the process of placing the table setting and she bowed to me when she noticed me.

“Master Hayden,” the maid said and the title nearly made me jerk up in surprise. Had Vincenzo given them rules to abide by when in my presence?

I watched the young girl as she finished straightening the napkins and placing the forks and spoons on them. For breakfast it seemed pretty overkill.

“What's the occasion?” I asked her. She froze and her eyes flickered up to me then instantly back down to resume her work.

Vincenzo must have warned them to not speak to me too. Just like he’d warned the guards.

Even in this peaceful atmosphere this place was still a prison. The feeling of phantom hands over my throat made me swallow.

“The Don has visitors. You will be joining him in his room for a meal while his visitors eat here,” she replied in a hushed tone as if someone could hear us.

Okay…

My mind whirled. What kind of visitors? I had

~Vincenzo's POV~The air in the mansion felt thick with unease. I could feel it, that prickle at the back of my neck—the kind of sensation that tells you something is about to go wrong. It was early in the morning but Tony had called for a reason. There was something he had found relating to who was spying on us. And I suspected it was someone in our own mafia.I buttoned up my shirt. As I raised my hand, my eyes became fixed on the scar hidden underneath the dark tattoo on my arm.I pulled down my shirt sleeves and covered it completely, using gold cuffs that had my initials on them. It was a oresentgrin one. My cousins who handled European missions for the council.Everyone in my family respected me because I was the one who always stepped up to solve problems in the De Luca Mafia. In that way I grew my support and now held the highest ranking position. But as much as I was the Capo of the De Luca Mafia, my role wasn’t cemented yet. Not when I still had competitors for my position.

~Vincenzo's POV~The council room was heavy with smoke, the dim lights casting shadows that seemed to loom over us all. The tension was palpable, the air thick with unspoken words and distrust. I sat at the head of the long oak table, my fingers absentmindedly tapping against the wood as I surveyed the group before me. Don Salvatore leaned back in his chair, his fingers drumming against the armrest, while Matteo and Isabella exchanged furtive glances. The room had the feel of a storm on the horizon—dark, heavy, and threatening to break at any moment.I exhaled slowly, letting my words have a weight to them as I spoke. "The bidder."At the mention of that word, an uncomfortable ripple ran through the room. Isabella’s jaw tightened, and Matteo’s lips pressed into a grim line. The name of the bidder had become the unspoken weight we all carried. The one who had orchestrated everything and worked with the now dead Moretti —the shadow pulling strings, hiding behind layers of anonymity. To

~Hayden's POV~The early morning light filtered through the heavy curtains, casting long shadows across the room. I could feel the warmth of the sunlight creeping in, but I didn’t want to get out of bed just yet. The bed was comfortable, the sheets soft, and for a brief moment, I allowed myself to sink into the silence of the morning. But, I knew better than to stay in bed for too long. I was here at my master’s whim. The thought of calling him master no longer felt like a bruise to it dignity. But it was a constant reminder of where I stood with the De Luca Capo. He was enigmatic in everything but his lust for me. Vincenzo would expect me to be up and ready, no matter how uncomfortable the situation. No matter how much I hated it.With a sigh, I threw the covers off and swung my legs over the side of the bed, my bare feet meeting the cold wooden floor. I stood up and stretched, every muscle in my body aching from the tension I had been carrying ever since we arrived in Paris. He was

~Vincenzo’s POV~Inside the club, the bass of the music throbbed like a living heartbeat. It rippled through the air, through our feet. Even though it was daylight still, this club was like entering a dungeon where the sun and moon did not exist. The air was thick with cigarette smoke, cheap cologne, and the sweat of desperate souls. I sat at the VIP section watching dancers move with a frenzy, the skimpily dressed servers and entertainers currying favour from every patron they could to improve their standing.Despite my ease at which I enjoyed the decadent environment I was here for a very important reason and I wouldn’t leave until it was accomplished.“Party for one sir,” the female voice whispered in my ear in a British accent and I turned to look at the source of the voice. She was elegantly dressed, just barely so. Still in comparison to her peers she looked good, more demure. As though my gaze was an invitation, she took a seat at my table right next to me. One of my men sat a

~Vincenzo’s POV~Taking a moment to steady my breathing, I turned back to Paulo, whose eyes now held only terror.I knew why. He alone had been high up in the De Luca subordinates hierarchy to know the many ways that we took care of our traitors. And he also knew of my own specific exploits and how I ran things. He knew that this may have very well been his last day on earth. “You’re done,” I said, my tone final. “Your men will talk. You will talk.” I shoved him forward, and one of my men grabbed him roughly by the collar, hauling him to a makeshift interrogation table we had set up near the back of the basement.Within minutes, the rest of the surviving henchmen were secured. I had a handful of them now, their faces pale and eyes wide with fear. They were my bargaining chips—loose threads that might unravel the greater conspiracy behind Dumas.I stood before them, gun in hand, and the silence in the room was absolute. “I want names,” I commanded, my voice echoing in the cold, concre

~Hayden’s POV~The sound of laughter and clinking glasses filled the air of Rue de la Paix. The club had become a cacophony of music and conversation, and yet, in this chaotic world of strangers, there was an odd comfort in the quiet exchange I had with Max.He was easy to talk to, almost disarmingly so. I hadn’t realized how much time had passed since we first started chatting. His presence felt like a reprieve from the tension I was constantly carrying—tension that followed me like a shadow everywhere I went. He had this carefree way about him that made everything seem so… normal.“So, tell me more about this mysterious life of yours,” Max said, his voice low, but the amusement was clear in his eyes.He had noticed I’d avoided talking about myself too much.I chuckled softly. “You really want to know about that?”He nodded, leaning in just slightly, as if eager to hear more, but not quite prying. “I like a good mystery.”“I don’t know how mysterious it really is,” I replied, my fing

~Hayden's POV~The sunlight streaming through the curtains felt like a cruel reminder of the long, restless night. I hadn’t slept well. The weight of Vincenzo’s anger, the pull of my own fears, and the strange, lingering thoughts of Max all collided in a chaotic mess in my head. I was a mess.Waiting for any sense of punishment from Vincenzo was a punishment in itself. I was left tossing and turning in the bed which Vincenzo had left me in. That he hadn’t even slept beside me throughout the night made me wonder what he had planned for me. It felt like I’d only just closed my eyes when I heard the sound of movement followed by a small knock that made me sit up.It was the only warning I got before Vincenzo strolled into the room looking majestic. The faint scent of cologne filled the air as I took in his already bathed and dressed visage.Had he gotten another room or something?“Hayden,” Vincenzo’s voice came, firm and commanding. “Get up.”I rushed to my feet stumbling a little while

~Hayden's POV~The silence in the room felt suffocating. I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, my mind racing through the events of the last day. I held my phone in my hand tightly. In it were several messages from Max. Several ones that I hadn’t replied to much less glanced at for more than five seconds.‘Hey good morning beautiful. How do you find the day? Tell me you’re not busy.’‘Hayden you must be busy. But let me know when you’re free. I can meet up with you in front of the hotel. Can’t wait to spend more time chatting with you. M.’‘Hayden you haven’t replied to any of my messages. It’s worrying. Nothing’s wrong right? Did I do anything wrong?’‘Hayden even if we don’t hang out please answer my questions. What did I do wrong?’The last one had hit me like a gut punch as it came in an hour ago. I had been too afraid to stay outside for long and had returned to the suite shortly after a walk down the hallways. If Max somehow caught me I didn’t want Vincenzo to know of it. Alrea

~Hayden’s POV~I paced back and forth in my room, my fingers tapping against my palm in frustration. My thoughts were spiraling, tangled in a mess I couldn’t seem to unravel. Vincenzo was going to get married. Married. And me? What did that mean for me? Did I even matter? Or was I just some temporary plaything he’d discard now that a wife had been chosen for him? My chest tightened at the thought. The idea of being tossed aside like I was nothing made my stomach churn. I’d known all along that I was at his mercy, but this—this felt like a slap to the face. A reminder that no matter what happened between us, no matter how much control he had over me, in the grand scheme of things, I was nothing. Just a body. Just a toy for him to use until he got bored. I shook my head. No. I needed answers. I needed to hear it from his mouth. I needed him to look me in the eyes and tell me exactly where I stood. I stormed out of my room, my feet carrying me down the long, dimly lit hallways of t

~Vincenzo’s POV~The weight of the night still hung over me, a dull irritation lingering in my chest. Hayden had been testing my patience earlier, pushing boundaries he wasn’t supposed to cross. His little act of defiance had stirred something in me—something dark, something restless. I needed a release. There was only one place to go when I wanted to forget, even for a few hours—the club. Not just any club, but one of the wildest in town. A place where alcohol flowed freely, where bodies moved in an intoxicating rhythm, and where I could lose myself in the chaos. As soon as I walked through the doors, the heavy bass of the music vibrated through my bones. Neon lights flickered, cutting through the dim haze of cigarette smoke and expensive perfume. The crowd was alive—dancing, drinking, indulging in the night’s pleasures. This was exactly what I needed. I made my way straight to the bar, ordering whiskey without bothering to look at the bartender. Within seconds, the glass was

~Sofia Esposito's POV~ Pfft! I scoffed inwardly at the very thought of getting married to that arrogant man. Vincenzo De Luca—feared by many, ruthless, and unpredictable. He was exactly the kind of man I had spent my whole life avoiding. Yet here I was, being forced into an arranged marriage for the sake of power and alliances. The idea made my skin crawl. I wanted nothing more than to bolt out of this room and forget any of this had ever happened. I sat silently at the dining hall, my hands resting stiffly in my lap as the discussion dragged on. The others—my uncle Federico, Maria De Luca, and the other council members—spoke in hushed yet firm voices about the wedding preparations, discussing everything as if I wasn’t even here, as if I were just a pawn to be moved into place. "So now that we're all in agreement, this meeting is over. We can start making preparations tomorrow," Maria announced, her voice firm, leaving no room for argument. I barely held back an eye roll. ~Hayden’s POV~I made my way down to the dining hall, my heart pounding in my chest. The atmosphere in the mansion had changed the moment I stepped out of my room. The usual opulence felt suffocating, the weight of the silence pressing down on me like a storm cloud ready to burst. As I got closer to the hall, I could feel the tension rising. It wasn't just the air; it was palpable, the kind of pressure that only comes from a gathering of powerful people.I paused just outside the dining hall, hidden behind one of the grand pillars that lined the corridor. The voices of the council members—an amalgamation of different families—filled the space, but the words were muffled, indistinct from where I stood. It was a murmur of words, of hushed whispers, like the buzzing of bees before an attack. I strained my ears, trying to catch something, anything, that would make sense of this strange gathering. Then, the chatter abruptly stopped. The room quieted, and I felt all eyes focus on the figure

~Hayden's POV~I sat on his bed, staring at the door as if willing it to open, but it never did. Vincenzo had locked me in, a decision that didn't surprise me at all. He never let me move freely, always keeping me under his control, like a puppet on a string. I could feel the walls closing in on me as I shifted uncomfortably on the soft, smooth bed. I sighed heavily and leaned back, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought. The bed was almost too comfortable, and for a moment, I allowed myself to forget where I was, but then the reality of the situation hit me again. This was his bed, his room, and I was just a temporary fixture in his life. I knew I shouldn’t be here, should be looking for a way out, but the thought of leaving—of facing whatever was out there, with him so volatile—made me hesitate. A flicker of concern gnawed at me. There had been something different about him earlier, something I couldn’t quite place. A shift in his mood, like a storm brewing just beneath the surfac

~Vincenzo’s POV~"Is Hayden here?" I asked, my voice steady, though anticipation curled in my gut like a predator waiting to pounce. "Yes, boss," one of my men replied. "We brought him here just as you asked." I grinned, slow and deliberate, as satisfaction rolled through me. Good. My fingers flexed at my sides as I took a moment to picture him—waiting, likely restless, probably trying to piece together why I had him brought here instead of letting him stay at the hotel. I turned to Alphonso. "Where is he?" "In your room." Perfect. Without another word, I strode through the hallway, the weight of the night shifting into something else entirely—something darker, more enticing. The mansion was silent, save for the faint hum of conversation from the men stationed downstairs. I climbed the stairs with purpose, my mind already envisioning how this would go. Hayden had been testing me, knowingly or not, pushing against the boundaries I’d set. But now, in my space, under my c

~Vincenzo’s POV~Find a wife. The words echoed in my mind like a sick fucking joke. I scoffed at the thought, my jaw clenching as I leaned back in my chair. A wife. A perfect, obedient, well-bred mafia princess to bear my heirs and strengthen our alliances. It was a leash. A fucking chain meant to control me. But I knew I had no choice. Not anymore. I kept my expression impassive as I glanced around the room. Salvador sat with his usual calm demeanor, his hands folded on the table like he wasn’t orchestrating a complete takeover of my authority. Maria, on the other hand, looked amused—like she was waiting for me to explode. And then there was Nadia, sitting across from me, the woman they’d chosen to put in my place. Fucking ridiculous. "We suggest you pick one from one of the families in the alliance, Vincenzo," Don Salvador said, his voice steady. "It will strengthen our forces and ensure no one dares to cross us." I inhaled deeply through my nose, forcing myself to stay

~Vincenzo’s POV~The thrill still lingered in my veins, the pleasure of fucking Hayden into submission, of watching him beg and squirm beneath me. It was intoxicating. He looked so fucking good when he was desperate—when he realized there was nowhere to run, no one to save him. The fear in his eyes, the way his body surrendered despite his protests… Fuck, it was a sight I would never tire of. But there was always something to ruin my moments of satisfaction. "Boss." I turned at the familiar voice. Alphonse stood in the doorway, his stance firm, his expression unreadable as always. He was one of my most loyal men—disciplined, sharp, and not one for unnecessary chatter. If he was here, it meant something serious had come up. "What?" I grumbled, adjusting my cuff as I leaned back against the chair. "I have a message for you from your sister," he said smoothly. "She’s requested a meeting at a discreet location. She wants you there immediately." Maria. Of course. That woman n

~Vincenzo's POV~I locked the door behind me with a sharp click, sealing us inside. The air in the room was thick with tension, and the only sound was Hayden’s unsteady breathing. He stood stiffly, his face bruised and swollen, a testament to the consequences of his actions. Yet, even through the damage, his beauty remained—a twisted contradiction to the betrayal that burned in my chest. I took a step forward, watching him flinch as my presence loomed over him. His reaction sent a rush of satisfaction through me. He should be scared. "You betrayed me." My voice was calm, but the weight of my words sent a shiver through him. Hayden swallowed hard. "Master, I—" "You freed Max," I continued, stepping closer until our faces were mere inches apart. "And you ran away with him. You’re no different from the rest of the cowards who have betrayed me. So tell me, Hayden, why the hell would I treat you any different?" His lips trembled, his hands twitching slightly at his sides. "I didn
