Chapter 16

Lyon shrugged. “What? A little spice never hurts anyone.”

Kathryn laughed, leaning back against the pillows. “You’re unbelievable.”

He grinned, pulling her closer. “And yet, you’re stuck with me.”

“Me? Jokes!” Kathryn teased.

Lyon sat on the edge of the bed, looking thoughtful. Kathryn noticed him glancing her way a few times, like he wanted to say something but wasn’t sure how to start. She put down the novel she had been pretending to read and looked at him directly.

“Lyon, you’ve been acting weird. What is it?” she asked, her tone soft but curious.

He rubbed his palms together and let out a deep sigh. “Kathryn, I need to tell you something. For real this time.”

Her eyebrows lifted slightly. “For real? Okay, I’m listening.”

He gestured toward the chair. “Come sit here with me.”

Kathryn hesitated for a second, unsure of what was coming, but his serious tone pulled her in. She stood up and walked over, sitting beside him on the bed.

“Alright,” she said, fo

Chapter 17Lyon and Kathryn grew fond of themselves, as Kathryn worked on helping him achieve his goals, “if that would draw him closer to me, then I won't stop him,” she had said to herself.“Knock! Knock!” Someone called from behind the door, Fiona rushed to get the door, it was her sister, Trisha. She was all smiles as she held out her hand for a hug, as usual, Kathryn was sluggish but still hugged her.“How're you, Mrs Alberto?” Trisha asked, taking a seat, she crossed her legs, wiggling them, her hands spread out on the soft sofa.“Trisha, the warrior!” Kathryn hailed as both stole glances from each other, they burst out laughing making Fiona peep into their conversation.“Madam Trisha, do you need anything?” Fiona asked with chuckers.Trisha eyed her, checking around as though she wasn't the only Trisha in the house, “Who is this one being formal with?” She asked, her legs uncrossed now. “Madam, come and sit here, I know you real good..” she added.“Know me? Like?” Fiona asked,

Chapter 18Suddenly, the door cracked open. The sound wasn’t loud, but it was enough to catch their attention. All three women turned their heads in unison, their laughter dying down as they waited to see who it was. Lyon stepped into the room, his usual calm and confident self. His eyes swept over them, and he smiled warmly. “Looks like I walked into something interesting,” he said casually, closing the door behind him. Kathryn, still catching her breath from all the laughing, smiled back at him. “Lyon, we were just talking... nothing serious.” He nodded, his gaze shifting to Trisha. “Trisha, it’s good to see you again,” he said, his tone polite but friendly. “Welcome, Lyon,” Trisha replied, her voice steady but with a hint of her usual boldness. Lyon turned to Kathryn and leaned down to peck her cheek softly. “I’ll be upstairs,” he said, his voice gentle. With that, he straightened up and strode out of the room, his steps calm and measured, leaving the door slightly ajar b

Chapter 19Kathryn’s eyes lit up. “That’s smart. People appreciate when you meet them where they are. And what about the board? How are you handling them?” “That’s where it gets tricky,” Lyon admitted. “Some of them are already backing other candidates. But I’ve been meeting with them individually, presenting my vision, showing them why aligning with me is better long-term.” Kathryn raised a brow. “Is it working?” “Yes, by the way, my influence too,” Lyon said, his tone honest. “It’s not easy convincing people. I’ve got more people on my side right now. It’s all about persistence.” Kathryn smiled, proud of him. “You’re really giving it your all, aren’t you?” “I have to,” Lyon said, leaning closer to her. “This isn’t just about me. It’s about us. If I win, it changes everything.” “You have it,” Kathryn said immediately, her voice firm. “You don’t even have to ask.” Lyon smiled at her, reaching out to take her hand. “That means more to me than you know.” Kathryn squeezed

It’s just... a lot to handle some days.”Trisha chimed in, “Yeah, Fiona, you’ve got enough volume to make a cloud jealous.”They all burst into laughter again, the kind of laughter that felt like it could go on forever. The teasing was playful, light-hearted, and just what they needed to keep the mood easy.Fiona put her hands on her hips, shaking her head, but the smile on her face betrayed her. “You two are impossible. I thought I’d get a compliment today, but I see how it is.”Kathryn smiled. “We do love the glam, Fiona. You just might need to tame it down when we’re around. It’s like a walking hurricane some days.”“Oh, so now I’m a hurricane,” Fiona said, pretending to be offended. “What’s next? A tornado?”“Exactl

Chapter 22Trisha drove into the compound with a speed that made the security guard at the gate wave nervously. She barely noticed him, her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly as her mind raced. The moment her car came to a halt, she jumped out, slamming the door shut without care. She was on a mission. As she approached the house, she spotted Fiona standing outside, wringing her hands anxiously. Fiona’s eyes widened as she saw Trisha coming, her face a mixture of relief and worry. “Fiona,” Trisha called out, her voice firm but laced with urgency. “What’s going on? Did something happen to Kathryn?” Fiona hesitated, her hands clasped together. “I don’t know exactly,” she admitted, her voice soft. “She hasn’t come out of her room since last night. I’ve tried talking to her, but she won’t open the door. She’s been crying. I could hear her sobbing all night…” Hearing this, Trisha didn’t wait another second. She took off toward the front door, pushing it open with determinati

What took you so long to come home?” Kathryn smiled weakly, trying to hold back more tears. “Life,” she said simply. Their mom nodded, cupping Kathryn’s face in her hands. “You’re here now, and that’s what matters.” Trisha leaned against the wall, watching the reunion with a satisfied smile. “Told you this was a good idea,” she said, crossing her arms. Their mom turned to Trisha and swatted her playfully. “You should have told me! I would’ve prepared something special.” Kathryn laughed softly, wiping her eyes. “You’re always prepared, Mom.” Their mom chuckled, pulling both of them into a group hug. “Come inside, both of you. Tell me everything. I want to hear it all.” ——Kathryn sat on the old familiar couch, running her fingers over the fabric. It felt strange but comforting to be back. Her mom sat acr

Chapter 24The morning sun was soft, casting a glow over the Alberto mansion’s garden. Fiona was crouched low, her hands carefully trimming the overgrown edges of the flowerbed. The vibrant flowers swayed gently in the breeze as she worked, humming softly to herself. Her focus was sharp, making sure not to cut off the wrong stems. Just then, Martins strolled out from the side of the house, his usual easygoing stride carrying him toward her. He noticed how absorbed she was in her task and smirked slightly. “Still at it, Fiona?” he called out. She glanced up, brushing a strand of hair from her face, and narrowed her eyes. “These flowers won’t trim themselves,” she replied politely, but there was a teasing edge to her tone. He chuckled, stepping closer. “Is Lyon still inside?” “Yes,” Fiona said, her voice lowering slightly. She looked at the house briefly, then back to her work. Martins nodded and started for the door, his hand reaching for the handle. But just as he was about

Finally, Lyon and Kathryn could have their baby.Lyon and Kathryn arrived at the hospital with quiet excitement, the kind that comes when you know life is about to change forever. Her fingers gripped Lyon’s arm. “I can’t believe we’re finally bringing him home,” she whispered.Lyon looked at her, his voice low and calm. “We’ve waited long enough.”The nurse returned, pushing a small bassinet with their baby in it, w

He could hardly believe it.Turning to Martins and James, Lyon spoke softly. “I need a minute with her,” he said, voice rough. “I’ll be out in a bit.”The two men nodded, understanding without needing to say much. Chapter 57Lyon had barely loosened the last knot on Kathryn’s restraints when a slow, deliberate clap echoed through the room. The sound was smug, sharp, like a knife slicing through the air.“Well, well, well…” Wendy’s voice came from the doorway, sickly sweet and dripping with malice. Lyon’s head snapped up, and there she stood, leaning against the frame with a cruel smirk plastered across her face. Two enormous men flanked her, their broad shoulders filling the entryway like silent, unmovable walls.“I’ve been expecting you, Lyon,” Wendy purred, taking a slow step into the room, her heels clicking against the floor. Her confidence oozed from every step, every calculated motion.Lyon’s entire body stiffened. He rose to his feet, shielding Kathryn instinctively as if his presence alone could protect her. “Wendy…” His voice was low, strained, fighting the rage building in his chest. “Why are you doing this? Chapter 56Lyon stepped off the plane, barely feeling the ground beneath his feet. The cool breeze brushed his face, but it didn't calm anything he was feeling. He pulled his phone out from his pocket, he dialed Martins’ number, his hand trembling slightly.“Where are you?” Lyon’s voice was tight, sharp, cutting through the noise of the bustling airport. His eyes darted around, scanning the crowd.“Right outside. I’m here.” Martins’ voice was steady but had that edge of urgency.Lyon pushed through the throngs of people. The noise, the movement, all of it was a blur. He didn’t stop until he spotted Martins near the car, waving with a slight tilt of his head. Without a word, Lyon slid into the passenger seat, the door slamming shut behind him. Martins pulled away from the curb, the tires rolling like they, too, knew there wasn’t time to waste.Inside the car, silence hung heavy. Lyon’s mind was racing, the weight of every possible outcome pressing down on him like bricks. His phone buz
