She looked at her twin sister as she slept; a lot of persons until now could not differentiate between her and Jessie, because they were just too similar; she had wondered if she could one day live like Jessie; traveling the world, painting, doing exhibitions and going to exhibitions. A fun and adventurous life. Her life was equally fun; she attends conference at the head office, attend international meetings, every Saturday night; she and her friends hit the club for fun and she was back home to her dog by 11:50pm.
That was fun for her.
Jessie was beautiful and talented, she had cut her hair to reach the base of her neck and she (Amber) had refused because she felt her hair enhances her beauty.
'Jess.' She tugged her sister's arm to wake up.
The cab had stopped and the driver was bringing out her luggage from the truck of his car.
'Can't I just sleep for a whole day?' She grumbled as her eyes fluttered opened.
'You can if you are indoors.' She said opening the door.
She paid the cab man as they held on to the suitcases Jessie owned.
'Do not fall on your face, Jess.'
Jessie walked ahead of her in a straight line leading to the door. 'Amber shook her head and followed.
'Why is it, so loud, Amber?' She asked Amber as she opened the door.
Amber joined her at the doorstep and they both looked at Amber's living room filled few with boxes and groceries.
'Mom!' She called her mother who just came from the kitchen.
'My babies!' elated Elisabeth began walking towards them with her arms opened for a hug.
Amber looked round, maybe it was high time she warned her parents about coming to her house unannounced, and look at what her living room looks like, a dumpster!
'I missed you so much.' She said kissing the both of them.
'Mom, you saw me on Friday day last week.' She reminded her.
'It's not the same thing.' She said.
'Come in.' She invited like it was her own house.
Amber rolled her eyes; of course they would come in, she lived here after all. 'Mom, why is my house like this?' She like seeing things the way she left them, but her mom had the habit of making her work much harder.
Amber frowned as she picked the groceries bag and took them to the kitchen.
'You know I have been looking for the pots, where did you keep them?'
She sighed and bent over the cupboard and brought them out before closing it back.
'This is my house, mom.' She pointed out. She knew, Mrs Pade knew that but ever since she got separated from her ex-husband, her parents had always insisted she have company and they had asked for the spare key. She kept looking forward to the day, she would be by herself, peaceful and quiet.
She sighed as she rinsed the pot. Amber headed back to the living room. Jessie had removed the newspapers putting them into a cabinet and she had rearrange the chairs. She sighed, carrying the boxes to the kitchen. She smiled; Jessie didn't like un-orderliness like her but Jessie wasn't downstairs, she had gone up with her bags, Amber moved back to the kitchen with the last step of boxes.
'Mom, we have enough food.' When her mother opened the bags on the kitchen table.
But her mother had already begun chopping and she wasn't listening. 'I wanted to cook for you.'
'Mom.' She said getting ready to stop her mother feeling nostalgic and then she would start talking about the time she missed when they were younger, they ate their aunt's meal for two years..... But Amber didn't want to hear how she missed cooking for them because of her accident.
To her delight, her mom didn't even start.
'Anthony called me, he told me, he would coming home for a few days.' Her Mom told her.
That's was great. Her brother never comes home unless he wanted a break from his girlfriends, maybe that explained why her mom was agitated, disorientated and cooking in her home. Maybe her dad had meetings he needed to attend and since she would be the only one in the house, it would be quite lonely.
'Mom, let me help.' She offered, knowing her mother was planning on making three different meal plus dissert, Jessie loved cooking but right now she was beaten down and needed rest and Amber had a lot of spare time.
'Before you begin, Jake spent you a message.' She told her as she tied the apron round her waist.
Amber dropped the knife, she was holding and left for the living room to listen to her messages.
****
'Dad, you know you keep stressing yourself out.' She said while they were sitting round her dinning table, eating dinner.
'If I don't do this, I don't think I have anything else to do and you guys know I hate being idle.' Her dad drank his glass of water. He could work forever if he had too, but she just cared about how he was. They all did.
'We are not saying; you should be idle, involved yourself in....... maybe Charity....... attend functions.' Jessie suggested, finishing her dish. It is incredibly how her sister can be extra-hungry when she wakes up from her sleep.
'Jessie, I can't stand all those Charity events or classy functions....... that's why I have you and your sister to go on my behalf, while Anthony here is always so busy.'
Jessie and Amber exchange glances with a smile.
'Dad, I am just preoccupied, I have a project that is due in a month's time, other things can wait.' He defended.
'Other things like coming down to see your family?' Her mother asked disappointed.
'No, mom..... I am here, aren't I? No matter how busy I am, I have make out a few hours or days to see you.' He said as he touched her hand and gently sneezed it.
'I am looking for a place to stay.' He immediately added, before his father reprimand him again.
'Why? What's wrong with staying here at the house?' He sucked the leg of his chicken.
Jessie and her exchanged glances, it was okay to have their parents barge in, like it was their house anytime they wanted but have their brother live here; Jessie might just leave and she just got here. Then there would be no more privacy; it was better having Jessie here than Anthony.
'Dad, I'm sure, it wouldn't be much of a good idea for Jessie and Amber.' Anthony pointed.
They were about to nod but her dad beat them to it. 'I am sure they won't mind.'
Jessie dropped her spoon and looked at her father while Amber was about to protest but it looked as if she didn't have to.
'Dad, I have an idea. The house is big.' He paused and sipped his water.
They were listening, anything that didn't include Anthony staying with them, they were all ears. He didn't like leaving the bathroom early, or being woken up early.
'You are the only ones staying there and there are so many rooms.....and I wouldn't mind if you stayed with me for the time being.....'
She saw the smirk on her twin's face as she picked her glass lazily.
Way to go, Anthony! How come he even said that without choking; their father loved that house and is he forgetting mom's handiwork on the walls of their bedroom and in the kitchen? More like he was moving in with them, not the other way around.
'Cheers to the smartest Pade.'
She heard her sister before she put the glass on her lips; they both knew their brother was going to say something out of point to ruin the dinner at one point, but they didn't think it would be so soon.
'I just thought that since the house is big, it might be pretty.....empty without the twins.'
She felt her sister's chair shiftened like Anthony who was just one year older had offended her. He called them 'The twins.' only when he was technically blaming them for something, or reprimanding them for a mistake or cautioning them, or shifting the blame.
She usually let her sister have the argument.
'You want us to move out, Tony?'
He raised in hands in resignation. 'No, no, I'm not saying that, dad.' He looked at the ladies, expecting them to support in this argument but none of them look in his way.
This is all his; he is on his own.
Amber stood to check on her dog, who was still outside on her pouch. 'Come Skye, come in.' She said as she tried to open the door but it didn't let her. She sighed and went back to the table.
'Who are you bringing home, Anthony?' Jessie asked him, daring him, not to talk in front of his parents who he was trying to convince.
'A friend.......she is spending a few days.'
'She? That is why you want mom and dad to leave?' Amber didn't know when she fired, apparently she was sick of her brother getting his way and inconveniening others.
'Shut up! Amber! How can you be selfish and live in this house that your ex-husband left you by yourself!'
Amber forced a laugh. 'Oh! I am selfish, really? Tony are you coming at me with that crap now.' She didn't believe this guy; for years, they have tried to reach him, many long years she has tried to reach out to him and he calls her selfish.....she long stopped caring only about herself.
'Amber, calm down. Calm yourself.' She felt her sister's hand on her arm.
'You are not going to do this in front of our parents right now, Anthony is a fool, you should know that.' Jessie spoke with such ease, like he wasn't even in the room.
'Oh! I'm a fool. You think because you do not have anywhere to stay you could lodge at anywhere you like!'
Jessie sighed. They have done this more than once, one of the reasons Anthony didn't like coming home. 'I am not going to argue with you today, Tony.'
If she wasn't, then she was ready; 'I am selfish.....you are the most self-centered person I have met in my life, how can you say mom and dad should leave the house of the both of you, are you out of your mind, Tony.'
He frowned. 'Do not forget your manners, Amber.'
'Do not forget your family come first, Tony.'
Before they continue, they heard their father sighed and then the sigh turned to a chuckle. 'Sometimes, I think you guys are grown up but you have always been the same.'
When table was quiet for sometime, Jessie spoke.
'We don't understand.'
'I love you guys.' They heard their father.
Amber's anger began to disappear and then she remembered her dad's words; when ever it came to making a decision of them, they always argue, when they were younger and even now but at the end, their contributions are only needed but their parents make the final decision after all.
'Lisa, please bring dessert.' He said smiling.
She watched her mother stand and walked to her kitchen, like it was hers.
'So, what are you saying, dad?'
'I will sleep on it. We will sleep on it.' He said with a smile.
Jessie exchange glances with her sister and just then they heard Skype barking.
'What is wrong with her now?' She heard her mother with the dessert walking towards them.
'I don't know.' Amber said standing up.
'It's good, she guards the house well. I will get a dog, when I get married.' Jessie voiced out.
'A puppy.' Amber specified before she reached the door.
'Dogs just lick your face and that is disturbing.' They heard Anthony groaned.
'Lick you because they love you, you just have to love them back.' Amber said when she reached the door.
'They are so adorable, you can't help not loving them back. Should I get you a puppy, Tony?'
He held out his plate to his mother. 'No, thanks.'
When she opened the door, it was free but there was no Skype, she went outside, she could still hear her incessant barking down the street but she wasn't ready to go after her. Whenever Skype was ready, she would come back inside. She walked back inside, bolting the doors, the cold gave her chills.
'Did you see her?' Jessie asked her.
Amber shook her head. 'Maybe she saw a ball or something.' She took her seat.
'She will come back, she always does.' She heard her mother as put her share of dessert and for the rest of the dinner, they spoke about business, Art and life.
Few minutes after she showered, she saw Skype walking round the front door and then she went downstairs to open it.'Where did you go girl?' She asked her.Skype just shake her head and whimpered.'Alright.''You know, you should let that dog go out a bit, a run or something.' She heard her sister as she walked through the hall.'I do that.''Oh okay!' She said before entering her room; the room Amber had reserved for her.'Alright, good night, Skype.' She stroke her dog and kissed her before walking upstairs to Jessie's room.'Amber, do you think I can get a job in the company, I love painting, I do but is it a bad thing to try other things?'Amber sat on her bed. Her father had insisted she get a job, to have something to fall back on, that painting was just a hobby but he didn't need to convince Jessie of the point he was making because Jessie would say proudly that painting was her source of livelihood. 'Of course not,
She sighed as Susan's screamed, making her shock.'Bachelorette parties are awesome!' Cassie shouted behind her. She knew that because she experienced one herself. They sat down in front of the stage, Susan sitting with a crown on her head and a swarl round her shoulders. On it was written; Bride to be.She didn't think she could have fun. Cassie had actually hired those male stripers, she was completely sure it was Susan's idea; after a few rounds of dancing and more than a few drinks, she began to feel lightheaded. She moved close to the bride, away from the two men who were trying to hold her back to dance with them.'I need to use the bathroom.'Her friend just nod and she went away from the sea of people. She was smiling freely until her feet stopped by the ladies' door. She turned to look at the person standing at end of the bar, standing with his hand in the pocket and drink in one hand. What was Nicholas doing here? When did he get b
She smiled as she sat down beside her mom on the table for six; her mom, dad, Anthony, Jessie wasn't on her seat, Jake and her cousin; Florence, she just came by to say hi. The couple were dancing and some other couples had joined them on the dance floor. She had left them to be away from Nicholas hawk eyes that didn't waver in her direction; she could breathe normally and think again about other things that was not Nicholas Mitchell.'Hello.' She heard behind her.She gasps silently and rolled her eyes, he just had to follow her here.'Nicholas!' She heard her mom's enthusiastic voice; happy to see him. Her mother never liked him because he couldn't afford to pay for the entire wedding but what changed; she asked as Nicholas hugged her.He smiled at her father; her dad still had a liking of him; he was a good employee. He looked at Jake after he had hugged Florence, waiting for introductions. She looked away; he didn't need to be
She sighed as Jessie past her; ever since the bachelorette party; Amber hadn't felt the need to talk to her sister because of so much questions she feared Jessie had answers to and Jessie had ignored her anyway, because even she didn't have anything to say to her.She sighed; she wasn't used to remaining furious with someone she lived with, she walked to Jessie's room, just before she could put off the light.Jessie saw her at the door. 'Did you need something, Amber?'She started to say no but she knew she couldn't stay angry with Jessie for no reason especially for a man she was trying so hard to forget he exists.'Have you seen Nicholas?'She sighed tiredly like she didn't have time for such interrogations but she answered anyway. The look in Amber's eye, told her, she couldn't hide everything forever..... eventually she would come to know everything.'Yes. I'm sorry, I didn't tell you earlier. I met him before you did at the airport.' She had
A week later, she was looking cheerful, she decided to fetch gorceries and she was happy she didn't see Nicholas much to her surprise, it confirmed that he had always been interested in Jessie and still is.She smiled warmly at the security guard before entering; he smiled back flustered and even the manager smiled at her.'You never stop looking stunning, Ms.''Only you say that, Walls.'He smiled; he was happy to serve her anytime; she had been the one who got him this store and funny thing she didn't have pay for anything she buys from here but after a lot of argument, he'd let her off with a huge discount.'Can I be your assistant?' He asked.'I am fine, Walls.' She picked a stroller. 'I will call you if I need anything.' She said heading towards the toiletries. She was making the trip because her schedule next week was crazy; she had meetings to attend. Jessie never have time, she work Monday to Friday and the weekends she wasn't always
She walked to the kitchen; once she had dropped the things she brought on the counter, she went back to on her answering machine and played for any messages in her absence.'Hello, this is Amber Page, I am busy right now, leave a message.' She heard before she turned her attention to the gorceries on the counter, she began to unpack.'Hey, babe. Just called to say Hi.......I missed you; can we have lunch tomorrow.....call me.' She heard; Jake sounded like he needed something.'Hey, Babe, this is your best friend; the client said the shipping won't be this week, he said next month..... I was upset when I heard; that man likes procrastinating...... I hope you are having a relaxing weekend..... enjoy, see you on Monday.' Cassie's voice ended; he sure likes procrastinating.... about a relaxing weekend.....so far it has been heated. When......She stopped her thinking as she hears her sister's voice.'I don't know where you went, what is keeping you so l
He smiled at the priest as he called he and the god mother to stand by the child and her mother and he was happy, when he held Amber's hand; he missed touching her, feeling her skin and he could see from where he stood the dark color she had placed on her lashes, and her brows were curved perfectly; he could smell her vanilla perfume; The divorce was all she cared about; he thought as they moved apart. She wanted to divorce him; was she pregnant with Jake's child or was he proposing to marry her?He had asked for them to talk; but he didn't want to just talk. ..he had spoken to Maxwell and he has helped him figured out how to reach her but now, he just didn't know.He had said they should talk about the divorce he didn't want. ....Yes, he had an idea.If she wanted to divorce, she just have to show him that she didn't need him and he knew exactly what to do.He smiled at the ladies that looked his way. He still had effect on the ladies
Smiling he entered the kitchen. He was feeling joyous; the day was going to end well, he had good vibes about it.'Where is that young man that was with you?' He heard Mrs Pade asked.Nicholas knew who she was talking about. He smiled as he moved to the tray of fruits on the kitchen table. 'He went to take a shower.'She nod her head to him. 'Go sit in the living room, we will serve the food.'He took a bite from the Apple he picked deliberately avoiding the look Amber gave him. He looked directly at his mother-in-law. 'Let me help.'She looked at him smiling and then nodded her head. He held his apple in his hand. 'What do I do?'She smiled at him; 'First, did you finish your work in the study?'Nicholas nod his head. She smiled again. 'First, tell me, how does this taste?' She told him as she placed a half full soup of the porridge, she blew on it first before putting it into his mouth. After few seconds, he gave her a th
The flowers were blooming, the sky was cool; the air fresh, the environment lively, her backyard filled with friends and her front yard filled with cars and lights were everywhere.Nicholas had requested Max make her cake, two steps cake.Nicholas handled barbecue and Lucky fixed the drinks; Susan, Cassie and Jessie took turns ushering people into the house; Nicholas allow Amber to dress up as much as she wanted. When she came down; she greeted her friends and moved on to say Hi to Amber, her mom and her grandmother, Maria came with her kids and Lucy was around with Pheobe; she smiled at her employees, her parents; some of her cousins celebrated with her, none of her niece or nephew like to miss aunt Amber's party; it was fun and she didn't feel like sitting when her friends and Nicholas insisted she sit; she was pregnant not dying. She smiled; few weeks after she visited Jake in jail; she had woken up; each day with the urge to go back to bed; she had thought
His heart skipped. There was something she wasn't telling him. This was a confession.'I love you...... I don't know if I have said that yet.' She continued; when he said nothing but scanned her face for a slight change that she might be joking.....But Amber didn't say what she didn't mean; she was not joking but something intrigued him.'Did you ever stopped loving me?'She smiled and pressed her body to his; raised her toes and kissed his cheek with the slowest motion ever before she whispered. 'No. I always have and I always will.'His hand tighten their hold round her. She turned to look him in the eye. She looked at his eyes , delicious lips; he could kiss like no other. His ticklish nose and his amazing ears. God had given her a beautiful husband, she couldn't be more grateful.'Thank you. Nicholas.' She said quietly.Nicholas raised his gaze from her lips to her eyes. 'What for, Amber?''For coming back to me.'Ra
Cassie had without hiding it, in the presence of Amber before he climbed into his car said; 'Finally, I thought this would never end. Staying in someone's house, when you have your own.'Maxwell had just gently pulled Cassie into his arms before Amber hugged her and went into her car. They were both happy, Amber and Nicholas decided to live under same roof as before and Nicholas was the most happiest, that out of a lot, he got to back to his house, he enjoyed with Amber.Their house. He increased the volume of the love song that played in his car and nod his head several times. Following the music and repeatedly drummed his fingers on his wheel. The only problems, he had right now was Jake and he has to continue with the restaurant.Skype couldn't be happier than him when he saw his car and then saw him bring out his luggages from the truck; Skype barked loudly inside the house; her barks could be heard from outside.Amber s
She smiled at Jake's neighbor, as she climbed the flight of stairs to Jake's door. She had given her boyfriend; two days space, to get over whatever he was feeling, decided to let him call first but he hadn't called or texted; so she decided to pay him a visit instead of calling. She was here now, with a cake in her hand to celebrate his birthday, which was today and spendtime with him; and have that talk they've been avoiding.'Luke, good afternoon.' She greeted Jake's neighbor by his left, as he came down the stairstowards her; she had to shift to one side, for him to pass; because the stairwell wasn't big rnough for two persons to pass at the same time.'Hello, beautiful.' Luke said as he passed her and stopped behind her.She turned to look at him. 'Hey, handsome.' She smiled. Luke was quite a charmer, quiteentertaining than Jake.'Is that cake I perceive?' He said with a smile; bringing his nose to the cake that is covered. He
She sighed as the radio filled the car, she was driving and Jake by her side.Unfortunately no man cancelled, they both wanted to go to the wedding and they both wanted to dance with her.She wasn't the most prettiest in the universe, why didn't Jake think of someone to carry along or why didn't Nicholas bring Apirl? She pondered on these questions as she made a U-turn.She took a glimpse of Jake beside her.Jake had had lunch with her a week ago; he had apologized for raising his voice and he wanted her to promise him; she would not give him up for Nicholas. But Amber didn't make that promise, because she knew, it was her life that was being spoken of here. So instead she told him, nothing would stop her from making right decision for herself.Which meant it was either him or Nicholas or neither. She could make her decision at the end.He didn't even pursue the topic, instead spoke about how he was going to celebrate her birthday that was com
They sat round the table for two.Amber smiled; when they saw the candles on the table and the bottle of her favorite wine.Rather, their favorite wine. They drank this wine after a family gathering; when everyone except the both of them had retired to bed. After they had cleaned the kitchen, they would take a bottle of wine and two glasses to their room and celebrate for a successful day gone. Nicholas would take three glasses and Amber the rest of the bottle; she always found herself in her short nightie in his arms and his legs over her, the next morning.'Really? You could have just told me, it was DIAMOND's Nick.' She said with a smile. He couldn't be more proud of being her husband right now.'It would ruin the surprise.' He said taking his menu to look at.He gave her, hers though it was right in front of her. When he gestured for the waiter, she asked him. 'Is there anything special happening?' she dropped her menu.He smiled. 'M
She felt mentally weak and her spirits low, she had not slept the previous night except thinking about Nicholas and Jake, Nicholas' kiss, the way she responded to him.She hit her forehead with her left hand and she sank in her seat. Why did she even kiss him? She had told him to stop kissing her and instead of her to push him away, she embraces him only to be enveloped, smeared and blessed with his lips, she forbade herself from giving into, from the same lips she promised herself not to kiss because of her relationship with Jake.God! How can she deal with this? And her feelings for him has surfaced and and this time in thousand folds overriding the one she felt for Jake. She is still in love with Nicholas Mitchell; her husband who left her and was back. She had told him; she agreed to his terms; he would do anything to win her back, by performing his marital roles, and giving her the time to spend with Jake, isn't it infidelity? Apparently the only o
Cassie, are you serious right now?' She asked as Cassie picked her up from the airport.Truth! She had been totally bored for a week, attending meetings and attending shows, her father told her to visit her uncle while she was there and she had called Cassie before she slept off last night to be at the airport to pick her up at 12 when her plane landed. She won't lie that she didn't enjoy the short visit to her aunt's school which she owned and her cousins were excited to see her but she couldn't lie that she didn't miss home and Skype. And she just heard from her friend that she was pregnant! Wow.'Cassie, are you serious?' She smiled half laughing. She looked at her friend as she drove.'Does Maxwell know?' She asked her.Cassie blushed. 'Yes,.'Why did she think that; he wouldn't know, of course Maxwell would know, he knows everything about Cassie.'How long are you?''Three weeks now.'Amber shrieked, looking at he
She frowned as the door opened and Jake showed his face. She sighed and went back to her work. After last night; she had sent him a message instead of calling; she didn't feel like hearing from him; that was why she didn't call in the first place. Now, he was here; doing what? When Lucy had told her; he was here; she had wanted to tell him, I am not available right now but instead she thought; that would give him a reason to question her, he would ask her about Nicholas that was totally irrelevant and to show him she is completely cool after what he said last night; she had to see him; show him; who was more rational in this relationship.'Hey, Babe.' He said as he walked through the large room to meet her desk. She gave him a lazy smile. 'Hey, Jake.' She wasn't a good mood to talk to him right now.He sat on the visitor's chair; and looked at the documents on the table in front of her and a pen, cup of coffee by it.'Are you almost
