My face was saddened but I didn’t regret what I did even if it was an accident.

“That’s the nastiest thing I’ve heard in my entire life.” She wiped her tears and laughed. “Love? What is love? There are anger, obsession, envy but love? There is no such thing as love.” She emphasized every word with contempt.

She picked up her red thong and went around my back. She pressed it on my wound to stop my gushing blood. How ironic!

“The truth is I want to know why girls were so crazy about him despite being sexually harassed they still wanted him. Now that I tasted it I thought that I’ll finally put an end to my thirst but I’m very disappointed.” She gently caressed my shoulder and blew warm air in my ears. “Watching other’s suffer is still the best entertainment and pleasure giver.” She gently nibbled my ear and licked it. “Besides it should be me, Bruce. I should be the one to kill Mark.” She dug her nails on my shoulder.

“You’re insane– arghhh!” I cried when she dug her fingers in my wound.

She thrust two fingers back and forth as she gradually moaned as if she was pleasuring herself.

“I hated his gut but envied it at the same time. If I couldn’t have his guts then might as well get rid of him. But you came in the picture and ruined everything. You took away my happiness. You deserve to die.” She twisted her finger 360 degrees inside my open wound.

“Just kill me right away!” I yanked my right upper body back and forth, trying to break free.

“Where’s the fun in that?” She chuckled and ran her fingers with my blood on my cheek. “I’ll test how tough you are. I wish you don’t bleed to death.” She gave me a quick kiss on the lips before leaving.

The heat of my body subsided. The pleasure was immediately replaced by pain. Coldness washed over me that made me shiver. A sour smile curved in my lips and tears stream down my cheek.

I looked up the ceiling and cried, “Amara...”

Our memories flashed in my head that made my tears streamed more. The pain on my back trudged on my chest squeezing it. Her face smiling up to her eyes occupied my mind. I lowered my head and closed my eyes as my strength slowly drained out of me.

“I love you,” I whispered weakly.

I gasped when cold water splashed over my body. The water was like needles pricking my skin. My throat dried and I couldn’t utter a sole sound. I quickly opened my eyes when I felt water poured on my head. I unfolded my mouth to get rid of my thirst.

“It’s not for you to drink but to wake you up.” She said signaling the man in front of me to stop spilling a bucket of water on me.

I examined the man and by the look of his face, I recognize who he was. He was her bodyguard and it hit me. If her bodyguard was her compliance it only meant one thing.

“He knew? Your father knew?” My body stiffened.

“Of course.” She walked in my direction while playing with a small knife around her fingers. “I get whatever I want.” She leaned down and pointed the knife on my forehead.

She was again wearing a blood-red dress. Her other hand was holding a bottle of Devils Springs Vodka.

I pursed my lips as her knife penetrated in my flesh. My fingers curled behind me forming a fist. I clenched my fist hard to deprive myself of howling. I felt her knife wrote letter A on my forehead.

She pressed my cheeks and forced my mouth open. I tried turning my head to the side to escape her grip but I was too weak. She emptied the bottle of vodka in my mouth and then her lips brushed mine like waves splashing on the shore, fast and rough.

“You’re so tough. Your blood hasn’t drained yet?” She chuckled.

Her bodyguard made me stand just by pulling my arm. He was strong given with his huge built.

“Untie him,” she commanded.

I reserved my strength for the opportunity. I don’t think she was planning to set me free. When the tie loosened I transferred all my strength to my fist and punched the man in the face but he didn’t yield. I gulped and stared at him without blinking. He just slightly scratched his cheek as if my punch hurt as mosquito bite. I raised my foot and targeted the thing between his legs but he caught my leg with just one hand. What he did next surprised me.

He pushed my foot back on the ground and grabbed my nape with both hands and repeatedly hit my stomach with his knee. It brought me down on my knees and made me coughed blood. At least I put up a fight before I die.

She clicked her tongue mockingly. I turned in her direction and she was shaking her head in dismay. She went toward the door as if she was leading our way. Her bodyguard brought me up on my knees ruthlessly. He dragged me out of the room and followed her.

I closed my eyes as light intend to blind me. The cold wind swept over my body. I explored my sight and saw the huge clock on the top of the door behind us. We were in the clock tower.

“Haven’t you noticed, Bruce?” I turned around in her direction. She was standing on the railings on the edge of the tower. “The devil inside you didn’t show up. He had the guts to impregnate every lady she came across with and force them to abort the lives in their womb yet he got no balls to appear in front of me.” She looked back in my direction. She beamed a bitter smile. “He felt your pain too and just like you, he chose to scream and suffer in silence,” she added and snapped her fingers.

Her bodyguard pushed me on the edge. Up here I could see every part of the island and it was so beautiful.

“If I were to describe you, Island of Vitam et Mortem suited you best.” I felt her glanced at me. “Beautiful on the outside but rotten on the inside,” I added still staring at the bird’s eye view.

I get to see such a wonderful view before I die, how cruel.

“No hard feelings, Bruce. You earned your death. My hands were itching to kill Mark but you snatched such extreme pleasure away from me.” I could still feel her eyes on me. “Besides if you die, Mark will experience death’s deja vu. It’s more amusing to watch someone die the second time around.” She clapped her hands and sat on the railings not bothered by the height.

I looked at her and said, “can I ask you a favor?” She didn't respond and just waited for my words. “Don’t touch them,” I added.

“Don’t worry there’s nothing to get envy about your girl.” She cackled with her hand on her lips.

“Everything about her is enviable,” I mumbled.

She sneered and crossed her arms on her chest. “I won’t touch them but I don’t know with Mark. He’s pretty obsessed and he can find another body and pester the love of your life.”

Her bodyguard made me face the clock and held me on my neck. The strong wind injected more anxiety into my already fraught situation. As soon as the clock struck at 3 o’clock it made a deafening ringing sound.

“It’s time.” She jumped back on the floor and faced her back at me.

“Serra will hunt you down,” I said.

She froze. It took her a couple of seconds before responding, “she’ll soon join you, Bruce.”

“We’re not sure about that.” I closed my eyes. Her bodyguard then let go of my neck.

Amara’s face smiling up to her eyes replayed before me. Drops of tears rolled down my face.

I extended my hands and welcomed demise with open arms. My heart drummed against my tightened chest. The gravity pulled my breath along with my body but I didn’t feel it hit the ground. Instead, the world instantly crumbled to silence and darkness ate my being whole.

This time, it didn’t take long when the investigation team arrived which was contrary to the day Bruce fell from the clock tower. It took them almost an hour before reaching the crime scene given the fact that the station was only a few blocks away from the university. They were slouching for some reason or maybe their service depended on the background of the person who called them. It was Amanda Silverio after all, perks of being the governor’s daughter. “Take Amara somewhere comfortable. I’ll be the one to give a statement,” Amanda suggested. I just nodded and helped Amara out guiding her by the hand. I was struggling thinking of a place where I could take her. Scratch the idea of taking her to our room since it was just next to Bruce’s room. I nibbled the bottom of my lip. “Let’s just head to my room,” she said in between her sobs. I just nodded and lead the way towards the dorm’s elevator. I glanced at her when the elevator’s door closed. “Fifth floor.” She tightened her gri

Her words made my heart throbbed. “About what?” “I am carrying a being in my womb for two months now. I hid it from Bruce and everyone else even the school nurse by faking my period that almost lead to miscarriage.” She gently brushed her tummy with love. “I told him once and the truth almost killed me. I reasoned out that it was a prank and it brought him back to his senses but he couldn’t remember what he did to me. Sometimes I would wake up with a pain in my belly and found Bruce squeezing it while blurting foreign languages. He was possessed but I don’t know which devil not until I heard its voice at the library. It was the only time I was certain that it was Mark, my ex-boyfriend.” Her voice cracked. I sighed in relief. Thank goodness my initial thought was wrong. Her choice of words especially the confess one made me nervous. “Why are you telling me all of these?” I questioned. “I need your help to find Bruce’s soul and I confessed to gain your trust.” Her sincere eyes met mi

“Why did you do that?” I didn’t look at him and just focused on bandaging his wrist. I lifted my gaze when he didn’t respond. I stared at his sleeping face for a moment before finishing the bandage. He was leaning his head on the top of his extended arm over the table. I stretched my arm above the table and leaned my head on the top of it mirroring his position. I gave his face a good glimpse. He looked vulnerable, soft, and warm which was the opposite of his strong, intimidating, and cold usual self. We were in the university’s garden at the moment. We went to the clinic to borrow the first aid kit before heading here. The nurse let me borrow the kit since we were quite close. I was her frequent customer because of some bruises and scratches I got from some of my bullies. I still have a few despite being feared. My phone rang so I swiftly answered it because it might wake Grip. “Have you found her?” I asked in the softest voice I have. “No, but one of the guards said that they s

“How could we find Bruce?” I racked my head the entire time but I haven’t thought of a place where he possibly gone to. The sun already set and a cold breeze embraced my skin. We are at the end of August, few days left and it would be ber months. As time passed by the wind was getting colder and colder an indication that December was fast approaching. I hugged myself to lessen the chills I was feeling. “We could track him down by identifying his grudge or his desire. Humans whose lives were forcefully taken away from them were most likely to have grudges while people who were not ready to die or have regrets develop desires. Grudges and desires are the reasons why souls refuse to leave the world of the living. Resolving of grudges or desires was the only way for them to cross the light.” He sipped on his coffee that appeared earlier from nowhere. “Bruce was murdered, for sure he has an intense grudge,” Gugu stated. I snapped my fingers. “Maybe he’s in the clock tower!” Grip shook

I peeped on his side and the reaped yellow tape attached to the huge metal gate captured my attention. ‘CRIME SCENE DO NOT ENTER’ was boldly indicated on the tape. “Someone’s here,” Grip affirmed that sent an icy feeling throughout my body. “Where are we?” I stood beside him and examined the place. We were at the end of the alley. Houses were far behind making this two-storey house isolated. A black blanket was laid across the sky leaving the moon to shine brightly as if it was the star of the night. Towering trees on the sides generated shadows that resembled beasts. The house was a sight away from where we stood. “Outside Silverio University, far from the main proper and is known as the valley of the dead,” he responded. I’ve never been to a place like this. I’ve never even imagined that such horrifying place exists on this island. Seeing ghosts never scared me but being here does. The dead scattered in every corner of the island living its name Vitam et Mortem which means the l

I closed my eyes and waited for us to roll down the stairs but someone clutched my shoulders and kept me in place. “Trying to save everyone will only put you in danger.” Grip’s toned chest pressed against my back. The man-like shadow revealed himself smiling from ear to ear, literally. A roar echoed behind him and a loud thud struck his back. He clamored in pain and knelt. His face kissed the floor and his body laid flat on the ground as if his leg was being pulled. He howled not letting go of the railings but not long after he gave up and removed his grasp. I kicked my legs and flapped my arms and I was back to the surface again. But each chance to breathe became further apart. Each breath was less than the last.I tried once more. The more I struggle the more disoriented I became. I felt like I’m trashing inside an invisible prison. My first instinct was to get some air but there should be something else. I couldn’t fight for air forever. I need to find a way out.I pushed with my legs and arms and when I was able to bob my head out of the water, I breath as deep as I could. The water pulled me again. She kept on pulling her hair and her eyes were restless. She didn’t know where to focus them.“W-What if that thing took it? W-What if that thing swallowed it?” Her breathing turned shallow and fast. She punched her head with boths hands wandering with little steps. She’s mentally unstable. I walked near her and caught her hands stopping her from hitting herself.“Stop it, Kate. Comforting her is the only thing I could do for her right now. “Nothing of that is your fault, Kate. Monsters are made. Envy made Lulu into one.” I pulled her making her lean into me as she sobs. “But she is still the Lulu that we know. She’s a beautiful flower,” I added. She lifted her eyes to meet mine. “Will she become a flower forever? Are we going to meet her, the real her?” “No.” I shook my head. “In the next life I could be an animal or a plant or I could be in your body and you could be in mine. “Are you sure about that?” Grip asked. “Yes, bring me back to the mansion. I chose to front my fear.” I firmly said. He nodded and smiled. He was proud. He grabbed my waist and pulled me nigh him. Lulu’s and Dorothy’s name was already written on the scroll of death and today was the thirteenth day from Xyrus’ supposed to be death. I wanted to save them, to do that I need to watch dad’s every move. I was not certain if my plan would work but I have to try at least. “Grip, something’s off–” I turned around but he wasn’t here anymore. “Grip?” I sighed and just walked the long way toward the mansion. He was vanishing from my sight very often this days. It was a sign that he would leave and cross to the other side very soon. As I walk the garden I came across with bronze maids. They would avoid taking the same way as I do. They would even avoid staring in my eyes. I stared at the huge closed door before me. Just by thinking of going inside gave me goosebumps. Fear enveloped me when I arrived at the mansion. Dead bodies of maids were lying everywhere in the front yard. The metallic scent of blood was giving me a feeling of gagging. I looked around hoping that I could find someone breathing but I was too late. Some were beheaded, some were stabbed multiple times, and chopped like a piece of meat. “Ahh!” I snapped my head in the mansion’s direction. I knew that scream and it was coming from the mansion. I ran and ran. Ran as fast as I could. I pushed the mansion’s door wide open. In front of me was dad wearing his usual coldness. In front of him stood Amanda. She was dressed like the lady in red. I saw no emotion in her eyes. Dad placed his hand on her shoulder and whispered to her, “say hi to your sister.” Amanda slowly raised her hand and waved at me like a puppet. “Hi...” Dad’s lips twitched. He didn’t like what Amanda did. His fingers turned black and grew long. Digging its sharpness in her shoulder. “Do it with a smile.” He gritted h
