“Where have you been? You were gone for days.” I raised a brow at her while crossing my arms on my chest.

“Don’t use that tone on me, young lady,” she responded in a serious tone.

Her authoritative tone silenced me as though the cat got my tongue out of a sudden. I didn’t dare to speak letting her rule over me because I felt like she had all the rights.

“I was plotting revenge on Xyrus for what he did to you.” She wiggled her brows at me.

“I don’t want to see you burn in my own hand, Gugu,” I warned broadening my eyes at her.

“I won’t hurt him. I won’t stoop in his level. I’ll just teach him a lesson, a lesson all ghosts are best at,” her lips stretched into a grin.

We head toward the school gym. I don’t have any plans on joining their game time during their vacant but Amara requested to be her substitute. I could reject her but she used the baby in her womb against me.

Who on Earth could say no to that?

I was wearing a T-shirt, sweat pants, and rubber shoes. I also tied my hai

“This is deplorable...” I murmured. I just made my way toward the bulletin board after boring a hole at the wall a crowd of students made. 99.99% of the students were happy about the announcement and I was not one of them. Who would celebrate the foundation day two weeks after a death of a student? Is this their way to make the people of VeM forget about it? After I managed to pass through the crowd I saw Amara running away. She already knew. Gossips in Silverio were like airborne diseases, they spread fast. “Amara!” I ran after her but someone pulled my arm stopping me. “Let her be. She needs time to be alone.” Her sight followed Amara as I watched her. I clicked my tongue and removed her hand on my arm. I don’t know why seeing her right now annoyed me big time. “Why is everyone letting out their anger at me when dad makes decisions they are against with?” She released a heavy sigh and turned her back at me. “I am not my father,” she added and walked away. “Amanda...” I called

Today I would spend the first day of the three-day-event celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Silverio hiding the hickey Grip made. It has been three days but it didn’t wear off, not even a pinch. I darted my eyes ahead and saw Grip walking in my direction. Every girl he passed by glanced at him and squealed like they were about to pee their pants. I looked around to find an escape route. I saw a room that even a reaper wouldn’t dare to enter. I slipped through leaving Gugu behind. “Gugu, where is Serra?” I heard him from outside. “She was just here,” Gugu replied. “Is she avoiding me?” he said annoyed. The space between my brows puckered. It was unusual for a female’s comfort room to be empty. Especially today when students and outsiders scattered since the event started. Ladies would usually turn a place like this into a saloon. Since I was here already I decided to check myself. I opened the faucet and wiped my hands. I put my hair at the back and rubbed the hickey off usin

  • I Saw You   CHAPTER NINE: Photo Booth

I bent forth toward the mirror and took a close look at my face. I don’t see any print or mark of my torn flesh but the thread of pain on my cheeks was still there. I massaged my cheeks in a circular motion. Then, I filled my mouth with air and pursed my lips puffing my cheeks. I transferred the air from the other side of my cheek then to another. The process stretched my flesh and somehow reduced the soreness. The door of the cubicle opened and it belched Mr. Murray. “Where are you going, Connor? How about my third org*sm?” Suzy wept. Her tone was disrespectful. She even called him by his first name. Mr. Murray didn’t say a word. His face was blank but his eyes were restless and his hands that he hid behind his back were trembling. He left on tenterhooks. “D*mn you!” Suzy cussed and it was followed by a loud thud of the wooden partition. She went out of the cubicle fit to be tied. “You!” Her glaring eyes were unhampered. It was like pair of knives pointed at me. “If you want to

I tilted my head on the side, to Grip. “He’s a medius?” I verified and he just nodded. “A fee-er and a she,” the photographer intervened. “What exactly a fee-er could do?” I curiously asked. “We could feel the presence of a ghost, evil spirits, demons, reapers, and even angels.” She averted her camera in Gugu’s direction. I chuckled when Gugu posed with two finger hearts then to V signs. “I haven’t seen an angel my entire life.” I removed the costume I was wearing and look for something else on the table. “I’m sure you have you just didn’t notice them as angels. Just like reapers, angels blend in. They are everywhere.” She focused her camera on my direction. I paused for a while and posed. I picked up a white long gown and wore it. I put my hair on my face imitating Gugu. I looked like a white lady. Grip stood beside me. I picked up a black cape with a hood and a fake wooden scythe and handed them to him. He didn’t have a choice but to wear it. “You look good on it.” I brushe

We both stopped in front of the creative hand’s booth which is our department’s booth. We laughed and chased after our breaths. A familiar figure passed by as if she didn’t saw us. She was looking and floating ahead. “Gugu?” I called but she ignored me. Something strange was going on. I jerked my hand out of Grip’s clasp and blocked Gugu’s way but she just passed through me. A mountain of snow fell over me and awakened the fine hairs all over my body. But there was something else that made me shiver. She was enveloped by darkness and it was leading her inside our booth. “Hypnotized,” Grip spelled out and followed her. “Is it serious?” I walked after him. His silence answered my question. It was beyond that mere adjective. My jaw dropped on the ground when we set foot in the booth. Different beautiful framed artworks were hanged on the walls and some floating in the air in varrying heights attached to the ceiling using thin white strings. On the foot of the wall were miniatures o

His hand tightened around my neck. Nails digging in my flesh. I was like a limp deer in front of a hungry lion, a hawk with broken wings cornered by a cobra, no escape, helpless. His palm pressed against my throat more. His slender fingers felt like tendrils around my neck. I trashed and buck, tried prying his fingers away, and clawed my fingers on his wrist uselessly but the more I resisted, the faster I ran out of air. Small ragged gasps escaped my throat, desperation to breathe overtook me. I looked into his eyes. It was burning with void and darkness as my lungs burn in pain. My lips curved a sour smile. What pained me more was the thought that my demise is in the hand of the person who once was my savior, my knight and shining armour. How ironic. My vision was spinning. My mind drew hazy. My limbs weakened. I felt like my veins will burst and my eyes would pop out. I could hear my heartbeat in my head and then the world started fading away. “Serra, wake up.” A faint voice thro

“Please take at least one bite.” I waved a piece of bread on his face but he remained still, crouching on the table with eyes closed. I pinched a piece of fried fish and waved it again but he didn’t budge. I poured tap water on a plastic bottle and extended it toward his mouth but still I received no reaction. “Don’t worry he won’t die– amm... he’s not alive nor dead in the first place.” Gugu scratched her head and awkwardly exited when I glared at her. I put everything aside and picked up Grip. I liftef him and stared at his eyes. “Tell me, Grip. What do you want to eat–” I closed my eyes in frustration as a warm sticky tongue licks my face. “You...” Gugu whispered in my ears echoing like those in cartoon horror movies. “Grip!” I put him away and wiped my face with the back of my hand. I received a message from Amanda. She chatted me that the program is about to start at any minute now. I threw everything away and carried Grip as carefully as I could. “I will be your shield in

I put Grip on the table and he walked across and stopped in front of Amara. “You just made that thing trashed over our table. Yuck!” Victoria moved her seat away from Amara. Amara glanced at me then at Grip who was still a cat. I nodded telling her that the cat was him. She brushed his fur and pet the area under his chin. “Get that thing out of here.” Victoria raised her hand and was about to whack Grip but I caught her wrist. “Don’t you dare,” Amara and I warned her in chorus. “Fine!” She yanked her hand and crossed her arms on her chest. The usherettes in red served steaks at every table. They were wearing above-the-knee red dresses, red cocktail hat, red lips, black apron from their waists, and black shoes. I was relieved to see the color of their shoes. “This was requested by young mistress herself for her friends.” The usher served us a bottle of wine in an aluminum bucket filled with ic

The moment the water swallowed me I held my breath. There’s no way I’m letting the cold enter me. I looked up but it’s all water above me. My hair floats over my head like seaweeds. In the rashness of the moment, I began flinging my arms out.I expect to come back out and I did. I gasped for air before sinking again. I kicked my legs and flapped my arms and I was back to the surface again. But each chance to breathe became further apart. Each breath was less than the last.I tried once more. The more I struggle the more disoriented I became. I felt like I’m trashing inside an invisible prison. My first instinct was to get some air but there should be something else. I couldn’t fight for air forever. I need to find a way out.I pushed with my legs and arms and when I was able to bob my head out of the water, I breath as deep as I could. The water pulled me again. I looked around and saw a wall. The fear I felt was overlain by hope. I flicked my feet and tried to reach the walk. It was

“No... That couldn’t be.” Kate staggered backward. “It should be there. I should be there,” she repeatedly uttered pulling her hair.I run towards her. “Don’t worry, Kate. We are going to find Lulu’s body.” I assured her and patted her shoulder. She yanked her shoulder away from my grasp and took a few steps backwards. She kept on pulling her hair and her eyes were restless. She didn’t know where to focus them.“W-What if that thing took it? W-What if that thing swallowed it?” Her breathing turned shallow and fast. She punched her head with boths hands wandering with little steps. She’s mentally unstable. I walked near her and caught her hands stopping her from hitting herself.“Stop it, Kate. You’re hurting yourself,” I told her.She already suffered enough. I couldn’t bear watching her like this.“That thing swallowed Lulu whole!” she squealed oogling her eyes at me.I grabbed her cheeks and made her look at me. “What thing, Kate? “I am sorry for ignoring you, guys.” Kate lowered her head. “I was just scared of Lulu. I’ve known her for years and I didn’t know she was capable of any of that. I know she won’t hurt any of you though. She was just after me.” Her voice cracked. I moved closer to her and rubbed her back. Comforting her is the only thing I could do for her right now. “Nothing of that is your fault, Kate. Monsters are made. Envy made Lulu into one.” I pulled her making her lean into me as she sobs. “But she is still the Lulu that we know. She’s a beautiful flower,” I added. She lifted her eyes to meet mine. “Will she become a flower forever? Are we going to meet her, the real her?” “No.” I shook my head. “In the next life I could be an animal or a plant or I could be in your body and you could be in mine. It depends on the decisions we make at this lifetime. That doesn’t mean we aren’t real. The real us is not our flesh but our soul.” I wiped her tears away. She nodded and smile. She leaned against

I dropped my phone after hearing what she said. I hastely went back to the elevator and ran again toward the gym. It was passed two in the afternoon already. “Serra, here!” Mandy waved her hand at me. I ran in thier direction. I gasped for air. “Where is Amanda?” “Amara called and they were together at the moment. What’s going on?” She looked both worried and confused. I looked at Lulu’s direction and Mandy already got what I meant. “Lulu!” I approached her. She turned around and faced me. She was wearing an ice-cold expression, far from the Lulu that I knew. Something was really not right here. I saw Kate died but her name wasn’t carved at the black scroll. I shook the doubt in my mind and focused to the present. “Lulu, grab my hand and get out of the body.” I lend my hand to her but just like before she just stared down my hand. “Yes, Lulu. Do it. • I Saw You   CHAPTER FORTY: Mourn

“Are you sure about that?” Grip asked. “Yes, bring me back to the mansion. I chose to front my fear.” I firmly said. He nodded and smiled. He was proud. He grabbed my waist and pulled me nigh him. Lulu’s and Dorothy’s name was already written on the scroll of death and today was the thirteenth day from Xyrus’ supposed to be death. I wanted to save them, to do that I need to watch dad’s every move. I was not certain if my plan would work but I have to try at least. “Grip, something’s off–” I turned around but he wasn’t here anymore. “Grip?” I sighed and just walked the long way toward the mansion. He was vanishing from my sight very often this days. It was a sign that he would leave and cross to the other side very soon. As I walk the garden I came across with bronze maids. They would avoid taking the same way as I do. They would even avoid staring in my eyes. I stared at the huge closed door before me. Just by thinking of going inside gave me goosebumps. I took a deep breath. I p

Fear enveloped me when I arrived at the mansion. Dead bodies of maids were lying everywhere in the front yard. The metallic scent of blood was giving me a feeling of gagging. I looked around hoping that I could find someone breathing but I was too late. Some were beheaded, some were stabbed multiple times, and chopped like a piece of meat. “Ahh!” I snapped my head in the mansion’s direction. I knew that scream and it was coming from the mansion. I ran and ran. Ran as fast as I could. I pushed the mansion’s door wide open. In front of me was dad wearing his usual coldness. In front of him stood Amanda. She was dressed like the lady in red. I saw no emotion in her eyes. Dad placed his hand on her shoulder and whispered to her, “say hi to your sister.” Amanda slowly raised her hand and waved at me like a puppet. “Hi...” Dad’s lips twitched. He didn’t like what Amanda did. His fingers turned black and grew long. Digging its sharpness in her shoulder. “Do it with a smile.” He gritted h

My brows furrowed to see Xyrus who was wearing a weird looking clothes from the past. The breeches were long and fairly full in cut, reaching just below the knee. The doublet has a high waist at the sides and back, extending to a point in front. A deliberate opening of the seam on each sleeve allows the fine linen shirt underneath to be seen. He completed his attire with a cape that spans almost a full circle. I looked at myself. I was wearing a deep brown gown with a low rounded neckline and a small ruff paired with a winged collar. What are you doing here?” He lended me his hand and pulled me up on my feet. “I should be the one asking you that. What are you doing here in the middle of the night? Are you seriously sneaking?” He made me turn my back at him and wiped the dust off my pajamas. “Yes, I am. So will you lower your voice now?” I scolded him in a whispering manner. “Do you think you won’t get caught? Maybe you passed through the elderlies but how about that?” He grabbed my hand and directed my phone’s light to the ceiling. I felt like my effort went to nothing to see the CCTV camera blinking red taunting me. I face-palmed. “You are lucky because you have a handsome boyfriend to the rescue.” He winked at me. “What did you do?” I narrowed my eyes at him. “Don’t looked at me like that. I just saved you from trouble. I moved the camera to somewhere that wouldn’t caught you.”
