Accompanied by a cup of chamomile tea, Helena decided to enjoy the afternoon on the balcony of her room. Nothing had changed since her last visit.
"What else does Miss need?" A servant shifted her position slightly, just to make sure her master was getting the best service possible. Working at the Edison family residence was a stroke of luck for the servant. Apart from the fact that the salary she received was more than enough, the Edison family was not a family that did not value others. In fact, they were very concerned about the welfare of the workers in the house.
Especially the owner of this large house, Miss Helena, whose return had surprised many of the servants here.
"Nothing," Helena said at once. "Has my father ever been here?" Helena glanced at the nearby servant. "I just saw you."
"Mr. Hanry came to visit two weeks ago, and I'm Gina. I've only been working here for six months, ma'am. I was told by Mrs. Berta that Miss Helena was back and I should be ready to serve."
Helena smiled slightly. "Thank you, but you'd better leave me alone. When Wilna arrives, tell her to meet me here."
Gina swallowed nervously, wanting to ask more questions but not having the courage. According to Gina, Helena seemed cold and didn't want to be disturbed. Contrary to what she had heard about the owner of this house; warm, storytelling, jovial and always friendly to whoever was around. "Yes, Miss."
Soon Gina left her alone. That was better for Helena. She needed to be alone after her return yesterday. She was reminded of her days with the Tan family. What she had originally thought of as her own form of respect for the middle-aged woman who was considered her mother, was becoming more and more oppressive to Helena.
"Helena! What are you doing?"
Mirna's voice rang out loud. Helena, who was changing the sofa cover in the living room, jumped in surprise. "I'm in the living room, Mom." She stumbled over to her mother-in-law. "Is something wrong?"
"What did you say?" Mirna's eyes bulged. "What do you think you're doing?" she pointed to the dining table Helena had set up. Many delicious dishes were served there. That day Mirna had invited some friends for lunch. And the one who was most worried was Helena.
Mirna wanted everything to be clean and tidy. Almost all the displays in the living room and along the hallway were dust-free. And most of the family photos were of Arslan and his family. The photos of Arslan and Helena occupied only one corner of the room, which was not too visible for many people.
Helena could not protest because Mirna asked her to do this and that. Including cooking quite a lot of dishes and tiring.
"I prepared all the menus you wanted." Helena smiled slightly. "Have you tried them?"
"Do you think my friends can swallow such food?" Mirna looked displeased. "Fish soup? A stir-fry without meat? You're too much of a daughter-in-law, Helena!"
Helena blinked in surprise. "But it was all Mama's wish. I couldn't have misunderstood."
Mirna was not to be outdone. "Still, you should be able to put yourself in a position where my friends judge our family by the dishes. If that's the case, we'll be looked down upon by them."
Helena didn't believe her mother-in-law. In her opinion, the dish looked sumptuous and not inferior to what she often ate at home. The fish she had chosen was of the highest quality. It was cooked with rich spices and appetizing aromas. It will not be inferior to the dishes served at banquets in general.
"Prepare a dish of the best meat. I don't want to embarrass the Tan family. I shouldn't have trusted you to choose the menu."
"But, Mom, if we buy the meat and cook it now, we won't have time. Besides, there's only a little money left in the shopping budget, so it won't be enough to buy meat." Helena reasoned. That was the reality.
"What did you say?" Mirna narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "I don't want to hear this complaint, Helena. Oh my God! Why do I have a son-in-law who can't handle money? How could this disaster happen to me? It's a pity that my son works so hard to earn money, only to have it wasted by his wife".
Helena clenched her fists.
"You are useless!" Mirna left the kitchen quickly. She grumbled, not caring that her words hurt Helena. Later that night, Helena complained to Arslan about Mirna's behavior. But what did she get?
Arslan scolded her instead. He said, "When there is a banquet, you should know what to serve. Are you so stupid that you don't understand such a trivial thing?"
The memory made Helena smile a little. "How stupid of me. How did it take so long?" She took a sip of the untouched tea, trying to savor what was before her, but for some reason, tears suddenly began to form at the corners of her eyes. They slowly fell without Helena's prompting, returning the teacup she was supposed to be savoring back to the tray.
Helena crossed her legs on the sofa. She hid her head between her legs and cried bitterly. Her shoulders were shaking so much that she didn't want to say anything. She felt so deceived and hurt by the reality before her eyes; her husband had betrayed her, and to make matters worse, he had brought his mistress home with him.
With no one to defend her. As if Helena was just a nuisance and no longer needed in the house. If there was no Helena, Tan's family life might still be like it was three years ago. The year when Helena met Arslan.
Helena didn't realize how long she had been crying, she still felt unsatisfied with shedding tears. The constriction in her heart was still entrenched and could not be removed easily. Although Wilna's words are true, it's not that easy. One thing Helena definitely feels is this pain because the heartbreak is too great. Because she believed in the love that Arslan often told her.
"How can Arslan be so heartless towards me? What exactly is my fault?" asked Helena, sobbing.
At the same time, there was a knock at the door of Helena's room. Helena immediately wiped away the traces of her tears, even though she didn't think it would have much effect. "Who?"
"Me. Wilna," said the woman Helena had been waiting for.
"Come in." Helena tidied up her appearance a bit. But... she felt her whole vision blur. Her head was dizzy. One thing remained; Helena heard Wilna screaming desperately, calling her name. Then everything went completely dark.
"Have you been crying all day?" asked Wilna with a desperate look on her face, but she still helped Helena to sit more comfortably. "I'll call the doctor, okay?""Later," Helena interrupted, holding on to Wilna a little tighter. "Where am I?""Your room." Wilna let out a long sigh. "Will you stop worrying me, Helena?"Helena, who could not quite shake the dizziness in her head, could only smile bitterly."You suddenly fainted. I immediately contacted Dr. Adi and he did a thorough examination. Fortunately, Dr. Adi is always available to the Edison family."Helena just nodded resignedly."You didn't answer my question, Helena.""You've been lecturing me all day. You know, my body is still weak from fainting, but I have to put up with all your useless chatter."Wilna had always been able to restrain herself and her patience when it came to Helena's stubbornness, but not this time. Wilna was completely distraught by Helena's collapse. Her eyes were puffy, her breathing was labored, and it
"Is my father coming by today?" Helena asked, leaning back to comfort herself. The car that took her to her destination was already moving at a steady pace. As Dr. Adi had requested, Helena needed to check her condition so that it would be easier to track her health and progress. It had been three days since she fainted and found out there was a new life growing inside her. During that time, Helena thought things through and started to plan.Did she think to tell her ex-husband? Absolutely not. Why should Arslan be the first to know about her pregnancy? Helena was pretty sure he was already tied up with his new girlfriend. All that had happened on the day of her expulsion was enough to make Helena realize that that idea was a bad one."Nothing," Wilna replied, a little hesitantly. She was also a little surprised to hear Helena's question on the phone. "I'll check with Mr. Hanry's secretary first.”"What's up?" said Wilna.“I’d like to stop by and see you.” Helena looked down at the st
“You need to take care of your health more than ever, Helena,” Adi warned. He was aware that the youngest daughter of the Edison family often disregarded her health issues. Although he hadn't seen Helena much in the past three years, Dr. Adi hadn't forgotten her complaints about her body condition."I'm not a child anymore," Helena said, looking a little annoyed. "You're just like your father. Chatty."Adi let out a chuckle. "I'm sure your father is pleased with this news.""You're right." Helena smiled broadly. "I'll let him know this weekend. Let's go, Dr. Adi. I'd love it if you could all come and have dinner together."The middle-aged man nodded right away. “I hope I can find the time.”"Thanks." Helena was ready to head out of Adi's spacious and comfortable office. The gynecological exam was thorough today, and Helena was happy with the results. If she keeps up her intake and doesn't get too tired, there's nothing to worry about. That was Doctor Adi's advice during the exam.“You
Michael was taken aback. He quickly scanned the lobby and its surroundings. His legs felt tired. He knew he needed to work out more to build up his stamina for this. But for now, he didn't really have time to think about it. Michael needed to find Helena. He wasn't sure what he was going to talk to her about, but at least he knew where Helena was. What a pain in the neck his father is! He should have told him from the start what he was doing around the Tan family!"Oh, no!" Michael gave his hair a quick shake, annoyed. As he looked around, he couldn't see any sign of the woman with the bright brown eyes, even though the area seemed big and empty. "It's not like she could have just disappeared without a trace, right?"He let out a long sigh."Doctor," said one of the nurses who happened to be in the same corridor as Michael. "What's the problem?"Michael gave a little smile. He quickly pushed Helena out of his mind. "Nothing, thanks." "I just needed to get some fresh air."“I see.” The
"I heard there's an important meeting today." Mirna asked her son, who was eating breakfast, if he knew anything about it. She was joined by her future daughter-in-law, who has been staying at her house more often to prepare for their wedding, which is just days away. Mirna didn't mind. In fact, she felt lucky and wanted to get the wedding over with as soon as possible.Mirna was able to keep her head up thanks to her relationship with Jacob's family, which was quite influential. She was quick to point out how lucky her son, Arslan, was to have a wife like Tiara. She didn't address the many questions about the woman who was previously with Arslan. "She'll only hold my son back as long as you know. "So why keep him on?"That's what Mirna said every time someone asked. But now she's not worried about that. She just wants to make Tiara her daughter-in-law right away."Yes, Mother," Arslan replied with a small smile. He looked the part, too—in a gray suit that was both elegant and classy.
Wilna looked at the man sitting in front of her with a look of annoyance. If she hadn't remembered to keep her cool, she might have asked him to leave the meeting room. The man's face was as impassive as usual, as if what happened in his life didn't really affect anything. Calm and even, according to Wilna, he looked happy."Oh, shoot! I completely forgot about that! His mistress is Jacob's family's daughter. This could really help Arslan advance in his career. It would be great if Arslan knew who he got rid of for his mistress." Wilna thought to herself. She cleared her throat to get her attention back on track. “Let’s get started with the meeting, then.”Arslan gave a little smile. "Go ahead. I'm looking forward to discussing it with you."And so they spent some time talking about the cooperation that had to be agreed upon by both parties before the contract was signed. Wilna listened closely as the Intel Corp team gave their explanation, which included some extra info from Arslan.
He quickly grabbed the cell phone on the table and made a call to the only person in authority. But he was interrupted by a quiet shake from the woman in front of him. Thomas was at a loss, looking into his sister's serious eyes.“You're making me angry, Helena,” Thomas said, trying to keep his annoyance in check. He wanted to make a phone call to Wilna. She needed to turn him down flat, whatever Arslan was offering. It was an interesting proposition, but after everything the man had done to Helena…Absolutely! There was no way Thomas would let Nakia, let alone the Edison Group, work with someone like that!"You've been giving me a hard time since the beginning," Helena said calmly. She took a slow sip of her warm milk, which she found to be a bit unpleasant. She frowned, feeling a bit uncomfortable, but she tried her best to take care of her future baby. "Are you not satisfied?" Helena added, “No problem.”"Oh my!" Thomas made a frustrated face. "I'm not sure what else to say to you,
The luncheon this time can be said to be quite luxurious. Maybe it's because the parties that will cooperate need to show how social class of business they have. After all, if this cooperation continues, it is likely that the stock movements of these two companies will continue to soar over time. Don't let this rare opportunity go to waste, right?"Wow," Tiara couldn't stop laughing. "Nakia Group never messes around when it comes to showing its class."Arslan gently rubbed the back of his future wife's hand. "You're right. That's why I have to get this project, my dear. You know, not only does your father have great hopes for me, but this collaboration will also bring me to the beginning of the highest point."Tiara smiled broadly. "I will be at your side from now on until then. Because a woman like me deserves to be at your side, right?"Arslan nodded slightly. The picture of Helena he had met earlier had changed. Why did he still think of his ex-wife? Besides, Helena should be happy
The school hall was filled with the noise of the students who were busy preparing for Olin's farewell event. That day, Olin stood in the center of the hall in his neat school uniform. Although he tried to smile, the heaviness of leaving this place was clear on his face.“Lin, are you sure you want to go?” Jihan stood beside him, her eyes glazed over. “You know we're all not willing to let you go.”Olin took a deep breath, then looked at his best friend. “Jihan, I have to go. I can't stay here.”“Why not? We can face this together. You don't have to run away from everything.”Olin smiled, but didn't answer. He knew this decision was the best for him and for his family. One by one, his friends came up to Olin, saying goodbye. Adel, Maria, and Rihanna had been crying since the beginning of the show.“We'll miss your chatty voice in class,” Adel said as she wiped away her tears.
“Dad, I need to talk,” Olin's voice was soft but full of anxiety. She stood in the doorway of her father's study. Michael, who was busy reading a document, looked at his daughter. There was something in her tone of voice that made Michael immediately close the document and wave a hand, inviting her in.“Sure, honey. What's wrong? Sit here,” he said, pointing to the chair in front of him.Olin stepped in slowly, sitting with her back straight but her face downcast. She clutched the hem of her sweater tightly, a clear sign that she was agitated.“Pa... I'm confused. I don't know where to start,” she said finally, her voice trembling.Michael smiled a little, trying to offer some comfort. “Try starting with what's bothering you, Lin. Papa is here to listen.”Olin lifted his head, looking up at his father with teary eyes. “It's about Andy, Pa. And about what Mama said yesterday at the festival.&rdqu
“Olin, what's wrong? You're not usually like this,” Jihan opened the conversation in a quiet but worried voice. They were sitting on a bench in the school garden during recess. Olin just sighed, his eyes fixed on the grass in front of him.“I'm fine, Ji,” Olin replied briefly, without turning his head.Adel, who was sitting beside him, rolled her eyes. “It's okay? Seriously, Lin? If you're okay, why do you look like you've lost something? Even your voice isn't as loud as usual.”“Yeah, Lin,” Maria added as she leaned forward, trying to find Olin's gaze. “You didn't even respond when we teased Rihana earlier. You're usually the most excited when there's something to joke about.”Rihana nodded in agreement, though she was a little disturbed by the discussion. “That's right, Lin. You didn't even laugh when I almost fell earlier. Are you sick? Or... something wrong at home?”Olin s
All the way home, Helena chose to remain silent. The atmosphere in the car was eerily quiet, filled only by the sound of tires rustling across the road. Occasionally, Olin glanced at her mother, hoping for an explanation, but Helena kept her eyes straight ahead, focused on the road stretching out in front of her.Helena was being deliberate. She knew that if this conversation took place in the car, she would not be able to convey everything calmly. The mixed feelings she had been bottling up for so long were now coming back to the surface, hitting her hard ever since that encounter at the festival.“What are you really thinking, Helena?” she muttered to herself. Her hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, while her mind went back to the past that she wanted to forget.Helena knew the look Andy had given Olin earlier. It wasn't just a friend's look. There was something there-a feeling she recognized all too well. It made her chest tight, not because
“Olin, are you ready?” Jihan's voice broke the silence in the preparation room. She looked up at her best friend sitting at the piano, seemingly practicing the last notes.Olin let out a long breath, trying to compose himself. “Not sure, Jihan. I don't know why our homeroom teacher chose me to perform. There are many others who are better.”Jihan chuckled and sat next to him. “Olin, you're really good. They chose you because you're the best. Besides, you're not alone. We're all here to support you.”“But my family will come,” Olin rolled his eyes. “I told them that Mama was enough. If they all came, I'd be even more nervous.”“Your family is fun,” Jihan patted his shoulder. “Think of them as hard-core fans.”Meanwhile, on the main stage, Andy stood in the center of the crowd, monitoring the festival. His face serious, he occasionally spoke into a walkie-talkie to ma
“Who are you looking at, Lin?” Jihan's voice suddenly broke the silence in the cafeteria, making Olin startle and almost choke on the orange juice he had just gulped down.“Huh? Who?” Olin hurriedly turned to Jihan with a panicked face, trying to hide his nervousness.Jihan narrowed her eyes, giving Olin a probing look. “Don't pretend, I saw you just now looking at Andy from a distance. What's wrong, huh?”Olin let out a long breath, then shook his head quickly. “Nothing, Jihan. You saw it wrong.”However, Adel, who was sitting next to Jihan, immediately chimed in. “Oh? Andy? Isn't he that cold guy who rarely talks? How can you be interested, Lin?”“I'm not interested! Gosh, what's wrong with you guys?” Olin tried to deny it, even though his face was starting to turn red. He knew Jihan wouldn't let go of this topic easily.Vina, who was usually more reserved, suddenly ch
“Helena, you look a little tense,” Michael said in a soft tone as they sat in the living room after dinner. He looked at his wife, who sat staring blankly out the window, her eyes seemingly glazed over.Helena took a deep breath, trying to compose herself. “I'm fine, Michael. It's just... earlier, when I met Jacob's family, I felt that there was something evocative of the past. Especially with that young man present... I feel anxious.”Michael looked at his wife with concern. “Are you feeling anxious because of him? Or is it something else?”Helena shook her head slowly. “Not because of him, Michael. It's more about the complicated past... which is long forgotten, but not completely gone. I know I've forgiven everyone, including Tiara and Arslan. But seeing their son, seeing him next to Luna... it's like I'm reminded of everything that happened.”Michael sighed and sat closer, taking Helena's hand gently. &l
“Ah, Olin, you finally came too!” Vera greeted Olin with a warm hug, her eyes shining with excitement. “Grandma's been waiting a long time.”Olin smiled and returned the hug. “Yes, Grandma, I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I had a little business earlier.”Helena, his mother, greeted Vera with a warm smile. “Thank you for inviting us, Vera. We're glad we could make it.”Meanwhile, Michael, Olin's father, who was rather quiet, just smiled and greeted Tomy who was busy in the kitchen. “Grandpa, how are you?” he said as he sat down at the dining table.“Ah, Michael! I'm fine, my son. Come, sit, sit. Lunch is ready,” Tomy said with a big smile, his eyes radiating warmth.Olin nodded, followed him into the dining room, and sat next to Vera. Vera immediately grasped his hand with great concern. “Come on, sit down first, son. I want to hear how you're doing.”Olin smil
Andy sat on the living room sofa, scrolling through his phone without really paying attention to the screen. His lips formed a small smile, recalling the moment when Olin bravely chased after his cell phone thief. The girl was completely different from his first image-there was no fear, only genuine courage. However, her smile did not go unnoticed by Luna Jacob, her grandmother who was knitting in a rocking chair not far from her. The old woman knew her grandson all too well. Andy, who was usually serious and quiet, was often seen smiling to himself these days.“What's wrong, Andy?” Luna's soft voice broke the silence.Andy looked up, a little surprised. “What, Grandma?”Luna stopped knitting, looking up at her grandson with concerned eyes. “You seem different lately. Is there something you want to tell me?”Andy smiled slightly, trying to distract her grandmother. “Nothing, Grandma. Probably just a lot on
