Chapter 3: I Have Four Mates
Kora pov
“What the hell?” I slapped my hand over my mouth, eyes wide like saucers when I realised what else was happening right now.
The calendar on my bed table was still in my hand and the date on it left me utterly confused. I could never forget it because it was the best and worst day of my life. Kai discovered me as his mate, the day of his lie.
But what had me also shaken with surprise was the fact that I had just heard my own voice for the first time since Galen’s poisons destroyed it.
I slowly removed the hand covering my mouth and tried it again. “K—Kora,” I said in a shaky voice, gasping as I realized that it was as real as a beating heart.
I could speak, but what the hell was happening right now?
The cliff flashed in my head again, but it didn’t surprise me. I remembered clearly where I had just been and what had just transpired. My sisters plotted to kill me with the Beta of the pack.
Jada bashed my head with a large stone and pushed me off a cliff to my death. I shivered while remembering the hate that had been in her eyes. It was unmistakable.
I shot up from my bed, and the sheets pooled at my feet, making me realize that I was naked. The mirror beside my bed drew my attention and I stood before it, touching the ends of my hair.
“They tried to kill me when I had done nothing wrong to them,” I told myself, still stroking my hair. “My sisters and Kai saw me as something weak. Something they could step on and get away with.”
I would make all of them pay dearly.
And there was no better person to start with than whom I had in mind.
I got ready for the annual Mating Ball, which was today. Back then, this day had begun with me in a terrible mood because my wolf was dormant yet for another year and I would miss the mating season again.
I didn’t wear the same dress I had worn. I opted for a black dress with an open back and a fish tail end. My breasts flashed a bit at the sides because of the deep opening that stopped right above my ass.
I knew Jada’s handwriting. So, before leaving my bedroom, I wrote a sweet letter in her name.
“Did you hear?” someone hooked their arm around mine giddy as I crossed the threshold of my room, hair flowing over my back.
I eyed the woman next to me strangely. In this version of my life, I didn’t know who she was.
“About?” I played along, still moving elegantly to the ballroom, highly expectant of meeting my sisters.
She slapped my arm and I stopped to face her with an angry pout, but she didn’t even notice that she had annoyed me, going ahead with her rambling.
“The Lycan King of the Seventh Moon pack is going to be here today. Alpha Galen invited him as a suitor for Princess Ramona, hopefully this season won’t pass her by. We’ve heard rumours that he is ruthless and hot—“
I had been about to ask her of her name when another voice beat me to it.
“Vanessa!” It was an older woman, wearing a servant’s dress. She snapped again, “Leave the princess alone. Those tables aren’t going to wait themselves! The party is about to start!”
I squinted after the maids who rushed off together afterwards. None of this was looking like my life. I didn’t have any friends before, and the Lycan King didn’t attend the Mating Ball I remembered.
After a slight tilt of my head in confusion, I continued walking to the ballroom, making only a quick stop to slip the note I wrote in my sister’s handwriting underneath a door.
The annual party was almost in full swing when I entered it. I saw my sisters first, all seated in a line by the Alpha’s side. There was no seat for me—at least, one thing had begun to look similar to what I remembered.
Jada sneered at me from across the room. She hated me most amongst all three of them, but not as much as her father did.
I took a glass of wine and darted to towards the Alpha’s mistress, Mai, bumping into her immediately and spilling my wine all over her clothes.
“Oh, goddess, I’m so sorry.”
“Watch your where you are going, Kora!” She smacked my face and I just smiled at her, happy about the pain.
Mai felt disgusted by her wet clothes and ran out of the room to change like I secretly wanted her to. Then, I downed what was left in the glass, smirking after the rim left my mouth.
“You’re now blind?” Felicity scoffed as I approached their high table, bowing before the Alpha first.
“No, sister. It was an accident—“
“I doubt, Kora.” Jada grimaced, “If I were Mai, I would have done worse than just smack your face. You’re so lucky the Moon Goddess declared you as her special wolf.”
I frowned inwardly. Serena’s special wolf? Uh, when did that happen?
Felicity mocked me with her laugh, “I bet you would have lived a more miserable life if the Moon Goddess hadn’t done that.”
Uh, I was not following any longer. They were saying things I couldn’t understand. Was that why I still had my voice now? Galen’s poison couldn’t harm me in this second life because I was specially protected by Serena? Could the goddess have changed my life and sent me back because she had pity on me?
I shook my head mentally because it didn’t make sense. What was so special about me that she would go out of her way to help me avenge my death?
“Why are you here?” the Alpha finally paid heed to me and asked. “It’s not like you would find your fated mate in a million years.”
I remembered he had said those words to me in my first life. A smile spread across my face instantly.
“I wanted to let you know that I saw something you might find interesting.”
His eyes narrowed. “Don’t play games with me, Kora. What are you talking about?”
“If you go to your mistress’s room now, you’d find out the secret she has hidden from you all these years.”
He stared into my soul for a moment before rising from his throne and surprising his daughters. Ramona glared at me as she called after her father. But I stayed back in the ballroom, watching the pieces of my plan fall into perfect place.
An hour later, Kai Stallard, beta of the pack, was being dragged into the room stark naked. He was thrown at my feet, where I still stood next to the high table. The Alpha must have caught him in his mistress’s room.
“I’m innocent and I can explain!” Kai begged, wrapping his arms around himself, eyes looking up to me on impulse.
I touched a hand to my heart because I knew he was. Because of my note, he was just at the right place at the wrong time and now Galen had gotten the wrong idea.
“How dare the both of you mock me on a day like this?” he screamed at both of them, who were kneeling now.
Mai cried out. “Please, Galen. I’m innocent. I had just come to get a change of clothes when I found him on my bed, tangled in the sheets—“
“Whore!” Galen slapped her twice and blood dripped down her cheeks, it was like art.
I had never liked Mai, but I had only just accused her earlier than fate would. In a few months, she would still have been caught cheating and then Galen would have her head.
Ramona glared at me like she knew I had a hand in this. Felicity just appeared pale while Jada’s heart was being ripped out of her. Of course, she and Kai had just begun their affair around this time, even though they weren’t mates.
I smiled sweetly at my older sisters and said, “What would people say about you, Alpha Galen? Your beta and your mistress? Right under your nose? To not have noticed their affair will be a sign that you are weak—“
“Shut your mouth, Kora! Jada growled, swiping off her tears.
But Galen considered my words despite his hate for me. “Take both of them to the dungeons. I want my beta and Mai executed in three days,” the Alpha walked back to his throne as Jada crumbled to the floor, a crying mess.
“No, father!” She screamed. “Please! Do not harm Kai. I love him!”
Suddenly, drums sounded in the pack house, cutting her off. It was the sound that signalled the arrival of someone important. I recalled what the friendly maid had said earlier. The Lycan King was here to attend the Ball for my father’s sake.
Galen’s guards quickly cleared out the scene and the party returned to what it had been before. Pack wolves tried to act natural, even Jada who was still mourning her lover.
Ramona was already arranging her boobs and collar to be perfect for him. She wanted him to like her and agree to mate with her.
But since Kai was off my list now, I had others to prepare for. I didn’t want to be here when the Lycan King arrived.
I moved through the crowd of wolves, quickly heading for the exit, but the grand doors immediately opened.
My heart raced and slammed to a stop as I found four identical men standing before me on the aisle. I frowned at once. These faces were familiar.
Aeson, Ras, Lane, and Cace.
The Sterling quadruplets that saved me from that trap!
I staggered back, blinking many times. How could I not have remembered the Lycan Kings I had met in the woods on the day I died?
All this time, I had thought there was only one Lycan King, but they were four.
And…And their blues were fixed only on me as they moved closer, like some sort of magnetic force existed now between me and them. Lust blazed in their gazes. I felt my heart pound erratically and my wolf howl to life inside me, trying to claw her way out.
“Mate!” the four of them suddenly growled.
Chapter 4AUTHOR’S POV“Kora it’s been a while, we laid our eyes on you.”“She’s been away avoiding us and our charms, you know all the ladies wants us” Lane smirked as he dropped his hands on Kira’s shoulders. Alpha Galen was at his knees knowing how much reverence the Lycan kings deserved, she was the only one standing with them when everyone bowed their heads down.“It’s alright Alpha Galen, this isn’t the first time we’re here so don’t act this surprised. Seems we won’t be staying for the end of the party since we’ve gotten what we wanted.” Aeson divulged, “What do you mean your majesty?” He stuttered, as Ras roared scaring off the Alpha in a shocking way;“Don’t you dare speak until you’re asked to, we’re leaving as my brother said so enjoy the party without us”“You don’t have to raise your voice to prove a point brother” Cace heaved a deep sigh as he held Kora’s hands.“Where are you taking her to? She’s nothing but a who…” Cace had his hands wrapped around Romana’s neck.“D
Chapter 5Kora’s POV“Why am I mated to all four of them? Is this a wrong decision? I have to be mated to just one man but I’m mated to all four of them” these and many thoughts surged through my head as they took me back to that tree where they saw me trapped, I was perplexed to some point as to why they remembered this spot vividly. It seemed weird and unusual to me. “How are you feeling Kora?” Aeson asked as he held my hands, I could see the care and compassion in his eyes. It made me blush hesitantly.“I’m good, but it’s hard getting used to all four of you,” I explained my worries knowing it would be hard to attend to all their needs and fulfill my duties as their bonded mate, I have no choice it’s my fate and it’s way better than being a puppet in Alpha Galen’s house. “Lane hates oily foods and Ras hates onions, I don’t hate anything and Cace is just like me we eat practically everything excluding vegetables” These words seemed normal but to me they were warnings to avoid inc
Chapter 6Ras pov “Yeah he’s right about that one, but he’s the one with the hatred and we’re the ones with the love” Lane chuckled wearing a whisked smile on his face, I could tell that he would rephrase his words once Aeson revealed his reaction to him.Kora seemed to be focused on her meal and listening to our words at the same time, I knew she was scared of eye contact with four men she would be spending her entire life with. The rest of the dinner was silent, just sounds of unified spoon and knifes cutting through the chicken. Kora had something in her mind, bothering her and I could tell by her shaky fingers. As the maids cleared the table I asked her immediately,“What’s wrong Kora? You seemed worried”“What’s wrong?” Lane and Cace asked in unison.“I don’t know if I’m ready to live this life, I have to think about having four men in my life. It seems too heavy for me to carry, all your needs would have to be met by me. I need some space to think about this. I beg to take m
Chapter 7 Kora’s POVWhen I stood in the hallway, I was confused over where I should walk into and lay my head. I knew all four doors facing each other belonged to the Alphas but the last one seemed very empty and seems more like no one has stayed in there for decades.“This is the master bedroom of the late Alpha, I don’t think they would be happy when they find you here” This voice distracted me as I gazed upon the shabby looking young lady, I could tell that she was beautiful right under the dirt on hee face and on her clothes. “I’m Matrine by the way, I could be your handmaiden and be your eyes around here to keep you up to date and not to get picked on by people”“In this world, no one offers help without wanting something in return so what do you want Matrine?… by the way I’m Kora” I introduced myself wearing a smile on my face.“I know that already, seems being your handmaiden would lessen my work around here. Everyone picks on me in this castle, every job assigned to anyone
Chapter 8 Kora POV “I don’t care how you all stink, you never told me you’ll be gone for this long I would have followed you all to the forest” I heaved a deep sigh, feeling very warm over their presence. “Well we’re back now” Ras chuckled, “I’ll be the one bathing you since you’re stained with our dirt” Aeson chortles as he wrapped his hands round my face. “I would love that” I conceded to Aeson’s words as he carried me in his arms, I knew he was taking me to his chambers. “If you don’t mind, I would love to bath with all your brothers, so I prefer you all rinse up and meet me in the pool” I divulged as I stared at the smile on Ras’s face as well as Lane and Cace, I knew they would be thrilled to be sharing the same space with me.“Fine, we’ll be back” Aeson motioned me to stand on my two feet as I watched them trudge into the house.“They’re back now, so don’t forget our deal. It’s an agreement” “Matrine!!!” she walked past me hastily and realized that the voice calling her w
Chapter 9Aeson’s POV “It’s nothing you should be worried about dear, now that you’re in the pool, Cace would teach you how to swim and next time we’ll be swimming t together and it would be a competition” I divulged as she conceded to my words, we’re all seated in the pool,I felt like ordering wine when she conceded to my words. “That would be fun”“Yes seems we have a visitor, Ryan is here” Lane divulged, I knew this was a time to stop fooling around and attend to matters of the pack, and my brothers would be there as well excluding Kora. “Has he returned?” I asked as we all stood in unison, Lane was already out of the pool, he signaled Ryan to meet us in our usual spot. The master’s bedroom which was my late fathers room before he died. “It wasn’t a room now, it served many purposes, punishment space, an enclosed space for meetings that wouldn’t be heard by anyone. Ryan’s meeting was one that shouldn’t be heard by anyone” My thoughts as I wrapped the towel around my waist. “I’
Chapter 10 Kora POV As soon as I stepped out of the pool, Matrine stood there wearing a wide smile on her face. “Do you really want to know what’s in my mind right now?” Matrine asked, Answering her question with a question of mine was the only way I could get to know her thoughts, I inquired; “Of course I would like to know what you’re thinking right now, so tell me what’s on your mind Matrine?” She hugged me instantly after my words, I could see the enormous weight of happiness she carried. “You don’t know how I feel right now being your handmaiden, I don’t really know what I would have done without you. I’ve thought of commuting suicide just to let myself go of this job but it’s practically the only way I get to have free food, free shelter and gold to take care of my needs” she divulged, “We’ll I’ve eased your burden, in return you’ll attend to my needs” I maintained my bossy composure, it was evident in my voice. “Yes master, you’re my master as well as your mates. I
Chapter 11 Author’s POV “This isn’t what we proposed for the last meal before the mission to get Alpha Colon back to paying his dues. The rest of the day was silent and it was after Kora challenged Aeson, I’ve never seen this side of Kora before. She stood for what’s right and detested Aeson’s words on Ras, Ras felt happy because he was the one seated with Kora. She had her hands under the table which I needed no soothsayer to tell me that Koran’s left hands were resting on Ras’s thighs.” Cace’s thoughts as he stared at Ras and Kora. Lunch was over, everyone decided to go to their rooms to sleep a bit before leaving, Kora felt like spending time with Aeson, no one talked bad about it since she was going to apologize to him for the use of her words. “Why don’t we eavesdrop on their conversation?” Ras proposed. “If you don’t have better things to do, be the guest and don’t let us into childish habits” Lane retorts as he disappears into his chambers. “You need to settle the disco
chapter 164 Author's POV Three Months Later "It's been two months since I've been avoiding the Lycans; I can't even have a word with them. I hate the fact that they thought they could deceive me by bringing a witch so she could undo what she did. There's no way in hell I would believe that a witch controlled my dreams to make me think that they were the ones who killed my parents," Kora said to herself as she prepared for classes. Martha waited for Amelia to leave so she could discuss things with Kora. "For how long are you going to keep playing these games? You told me that they're your mates, but you're acting like you don't even know them since you woke up. It's more like you hate them," Martha spoke in whispers, knowing that it would be hard for anyone to hear a word that she said, since the door was distant from their position. "They're the ones who killed my parents." "They denied it and even proposed that the witch open your eyes to the truth. Why haven't you agreed t
chapter 163 Cace's POV I wondered why she accused us of killing her parents; it's so hard to tell what she wants to believe now. Even if we get Allen to make her believe our words, she won't accept it. It would be like pouring water on a stone. To an extent, I didn't like the fact that I felt odd watching her relax her head on the bed. I felt like leaving because I wanted to join my brothers. "Hey, what's going on here?" I asked myself as I watched the beds shake vigorously. I could tell it was a panic attack, and it would only mean one thing: she wasn't stable and must have sustained internal injuries that the Healer didn't know about. "You need to leave; I'll take it from here," the Healer divulged, but I couldn't leave. Why would I leave my mate in the hands of someone I didn't trust? I would watch him perform his duties and then leave so I could keep an eye on Kora," I said to myself as he realized that I wasn't going anywhere. He proceeded to stabilize her, and I was glad he
chapter 162 Alpha Damek's POV Lost in my thoughts was all I could achieve through the night, and this wasn't what I wanted. Stanley won't see me coming; that could be the only leverage I have. He's going to think that Alpha Cornelius's Beta would be the one leading the fight, so it would be right that he meets his ideal enemy on the battlefield while I and his men take the Redwoods. A dozen guards would be able to protect the pack. That would be the window we need to take over the pack and return to help Alpha Cornelius's men. It would be an ambush that he won't forget, because if he doesn't give us the antidote, the day he steps into that battlefield will be his last. "I can't wait to let them know that I've found a plan, and it's going to work because it won't be countered. This is my divine move, and I don't know if I can trust Collins to let him in on this," I said to myself as I watched the epic sunrise. I was glad that the curtains were closed; if not for that, I would have
chapter 161 Author's POV The Lycans were waiting for Kora to regain consciousness. Lord Lucifer checked on her health and assured the Lycans that she would be fine; all they had to do was wait. "Do you think the impact was too much? I didn't," Cace was interrupted by Aeson, who wasn't happy with the outcome. "Now you want to talk about the impact, Cace? I suggest you shut it and don't speak a word. Hope that she opens her eyes so we can understand if she's Kora or Lucas." Aeson didn't even let Cace ask Ras a complete question. "I wonder why he's pissed at what I did. If not for my timely intervention, she would have escaped, and we don't know how long it would take for us to find her again. I did what was best, and no one appreciates me for that," Cace thought as he watched Ras and Aeson take a walk with Lord Lucifer. "Hey, are you pissed at what happened?" "I don't know why everyone thinks it's my fault. I only tried to stop a very fast werewolf, and we collided with the tree
chapter 160 Aeson's POV "What's wrong with you, lady? Don't you know who we are and what we want? We're not here to hurt you, and you should know that there are a lot of things that you don't know about me or my brothers, but you should know this: we have someone who won't hesitate to chop off your head with his claws if you don't watch your words," I divulged as Ras approached her, knowing that he was the one I referred to. "Ras, just hold back. I know she won't repeat this act ever again," I sighed, wearing a smile on my face. "Kora, the leader of the Protectors, would return in one piece, and if she doesn't, we'll plan her funeral." "Well, I would like to tell you this, Lord Lucifer, and I know you know nothing about this: Kora is the monster, and she's the one who is going to make this a whole lot easier when we have her wrapped up in a dungeon where we would try to get the monster out of her," I sighed as he slammed his hands on the table. "I can't let you hurt her after wh
chapter 159 Kora's POV "Yes, they did kill my parents, but trust me, they don't know what's going to happen when I have all it takes to defeat them." I had to let her know that the death of my parents won't be in vain. When I have all I want, I will have them on their knees, and they won't have the leverage of ever seeing the next moonlight because I will make sure they're dead. "Are you trying to wage war against the Lycans? You and I know how sick that is, and you won't be able to survive that." She was right in her words, but she didn't listen to what I said. If she had paid attention, she wouldn't have asked this question. "That's why I said the words 'when I have all it takes to defeat them.' Do you think I would go to a gun battle with a hoe?" I heaved a deep sigh as we got closer to the forest. "Yeah, you're right. Sorry for my words. We have to find Kate, and I suggest you're the brains, so why don't you solve this one?" She chortled. I could tell that she was stressed f
chapter 158 Alpha Damek's POV "Do you know what it means to fight against Redwoods? It's more like we're going to be sacrificial lambs before them," Cage suggested. I wondered if he was thinking of letting himself die. "Not if we join our forces together. As the acting Alpha of this pack, I would go back to the pack, bring the whole pack with me, and make sure he pays for what he did to our Alpha." He interrupted my meeting with Cage. "Are you sure you can handle this?" I asked as he raised his right hand to his chest. I knew he wanted me to have his word. With Cornelius's men and my expertise, we stand a better chance at ending the reign of Stanley and taking Redwoods to be a part of my pack, gaining more land, more hands in the growth and development of the pack, and lots more from their spoils after what's left of the war. "Going against Stanley is like going to a river when you know you can't swim." "But someone who knows how to swim doesn't know how to catch fish and d
chapter 157 Cace's POV "She must have done it because she needs powers to make you all pay for the death of her parents." Allen joked about this, but it wasn't funny considering what I knew anyone would do in her shoes to the people who killed her parents. She's definitely coming for our heads, but we have to find a way to make it into Dark Knight Academy and become residents so we can have Kora and keep her contained long enough to get her away from Lucas. "We have to get through to that school?" "Amelia is the one that I suggest you go to. Since she's one of the protectors, she would assist you and lead you to Lord Lucifer. He decides if you're going to stay or not." This advice seemed a lot forced; I guess he wanted us at his pack because he needed more hands and we looked very strong. "How about one of you guys stay back just to watch the developments with me?" "I thought you would never ask, Alpha Xander, but the thing is we all have to be there at the same time, and we
chapter 156 Kora's POV She was dumbfounded. I knew she wasn't going to take anything from this, so this was more like a charade that I had to avoid. "Just keep your answer to yourself, and let's focus on what we're doing right now. We have to handle this wall, and I need to be certain I'm leaving the Wastelands in the hands of two protectors and not just ladies." My eyes were glued to Martha; I knew what she wanted, and I was waiting to hear it from her lips. "What do you want?" "You know what I want has nothing to do with you, and you have to be certain about what you choose, dear, because your decisions are my orders. So if you're going to find Kate, so am I." She answered my question just the way I expected it, unlike Amelia, who was scared of the monster's abilities. "So, Martha, you're going to accompany me while you handle the affairs down here, Amelia. And trust me, don't get your head wrapped up around him. You're a protector, not a desperate lady searching for ways to
