"Who's Blake?" Vic questions softly.
"My boyfriend," I announce and his facial expression changes from calm to infuriated.
"Oh." Is all that comes out of Vic's mouth.
We later on decide to watch a movie since the awkwardness is too much and no one wants to talk.
At dinner, we sit quietly enjoying the spicy chicken my mom cooked. Roxy is seriously licking her fingers when the front door opens and my dad pops in.
"Whoah! I almost thought no one was inside. I didn't except you to be this many," dad says when he gets to the dining table and eyes everyone in the room. He gives mom a kiss on the cheek and sits down.
"Let me get you a plate, honey." Mom stands up from the table but dad stops her.
"Oh, don't worry, I can get it." Then his eyes move to Vic, "Wait, Vic?" he squints a little at him.
"Yeah, it's me." Vic smiles.
"What a surprise! When did you arrive? Kyrah never
My eyes are shut but I can still hear everything that's going on downstairs, I think mom is cooking breakfast. Seconds later my door is pushed open and when I open my eyes, Snow jumps on my bed with a red rose flower in his mouth and he barks twice. I chuckle."Good morning to you too, Snow."He drops the flower on my bed and moves closer to me and I pet him."Good boy. Where did you get this from?" I ask, knowing he clearly doesn't understand me but in a way I always feel like he does. He barks again and leaves my bed, stopping at the door as if asking me to hurry up and leave my bed. His white tail wagging quickly."Okay, okay. I'm coming," I respond, leaving my room and following Snow downstairs, where I find dad cooking. In his hand is a spatula and he is wearing a white and orange checked apron."What in the world is going on today?" My brow is raised and dad laughs. His eyes move to the stairs behind me and I follow his line of si
"This car, feels amazing. I love it, babe. Thank you so much." I steal a glance at him and he winks at me."You're welcome, babe. So where are you taking me?" he cocks his head to the side and I chuckle."Just hold on tight and you'll see." At that moment I step on the gas and speed off. I feel like a rebel. Like a princess who has eloped with her prince charming to a far away, forbidden land. A thought crosses my mind. What if my mom finds out that Blake bought me this car, what would I tell her?Focus on now and leave later alone. If it gets to that point, we'll figure it out. I tell myself.Minutes later, I stop the car at the beach. It doesn't look as lovely as the last time I was here with Scott since right now, the sun is up and apparently the seagulls are very few today. No waves at all, but hey, I am here to enjoy the moment. As we walk to the shore, Blake holds my hand and we both stop walking. He
Kyrah's POVTime flew like a rocket ship ever since Blake and I had our little bonding in my new car. Things changed, and so have I. It's been two months of pure bliss with Blake and I can't explain how high I have been on love. He makes me want to dance around whispering his name. When he calls, I run to him. When he speaks, I become weak and when he touches me, I run wild. That's what he does to me.As I sit here in my hostel, busy doing my hair, the door opens and Maeve walks in, arms across her chest. I can see from the large mirror in front of me that she is wearing a sad expression on her face. I turn to face her and she pushes her glasses up her nose. A habit I have come to understand means that she's either angry, sad or disappointed."What?" I ask her."Where have you been, Kyrah? And where are you going now?" she sounds concerned. For real."None of your business, Maeve," I say, turning on my seat to face the mirror.
*Scott's POV*It's been two months now and my dad hasn't come back home since he was assigned a really major duty in Afghanistan. This is how hard it is to be the child of a military father. He hardly comes home, and when he does, he stays for a while and any minute I always know he'd get a call of duty and that he'd leave again. I had really waited for him to come home the last time he called, but plans changed. He couldn't come.Another thing that's bothering the hell out of me is the fact that Kyrah, no longer wants anything to do with me, or anyone else. All her time is spent with Blake. It's like we're all invisible to her. I never liked Blake since the very first day I saw and I never will. He's made Kyrah a totally different person. She's now forgotten about all her friends and any time he calls her, she runs to him like he's her savior. I hate that. I really hate that! That thought makes me squeeze my fists in anger. It's Friday afternoon and I am
*Roxy's POV*When I pick the call, I place the phone on my ear and the smile on my face fades slowly as I speak to the person on the other end."Is this Roxy Trent?" the woman questions."Yes. How may I help you?" I ask."I am calling in from the State Women's Prison–" before she finishes her words I cut her off."My mother, how is she?" I utter. The last time I visited her, I was with Vic and she was glad to see him. That was two weeks ago. We had some family time together even though for a very short time. But I loved it."Calm down, we need you to come over immediately and see her–""What happened? What the fuck happened?!" I slam my fist on the coffee table, making Vic to jump on his feet. He is now staring at me with worry. He knows that whoever is on the other line has bad news. Scott is up on his feet and the two of them move closer to me."Ma'am, just calm down and get ove
Kyrah's POVBlake and I arrive at an elegant restaurant and we are welcomed warmly at the entrance. After we confirm our table, the receptionist shows us where it is and we thank her. I am in wedges and a knee-length pink floral dress with a brown clutch bag. I may be wearing a dress which has a bubbly color, but deep down I feel like crap today. I fake a smile when the waiter arrives at our table with the menu."Hello, this is our menu. I'll be back for your order in a few," he says in a deep French accent."Bring us two glasses of wine, please. When you get back," Blake says and the waiter nods firmly, turning on his heel to leave.I start playing around with my nails absently until Blake brings me back from la-la land by touching my hands across the table."Has anyone wronged you? If it's me, just let me know. You look troubled, Kyrah," Blake says as he eyes me keenly."No, babe. It's not you, I am a little off moo
Roxy's POVI managed to call Mrs Bailey and she told me she's on her way. That made me a little hopeful because she's the only person I have left, now that aunt Olivia decided to abandon us.At the gate of the prison, all of us open the doors of the car before it stops and step out once it comes to a hault. Scott leaves last and at the gate, the lazy female guard who's usually there checking people's identification, doesn't even bother lifting her head up. A cigarette is in her mouth and she's busy playing a game on her phone. The moment Scott's dad clears his throat she looks up and the look on her face is bewildering. The cigarette drops and she salutes him instantly. Her body going from a crouched posture to a straight one.She stumbles on her feet and yells at the guard who has the keys to the gate to open up. The rest of the guards salute the General in unison, but he ignores them completely. In a second, we storm in headed to the s
Kyrah's POVThe moment Blake and I arrive at the prison, I spot Roxy and next to her is Vic, Scott, my mom and a person I assume is Scott's dad. I run as fast as I can to her, trying to focus on my steps, careful not to fall because of my wedges.I call out her name a couple of times but all she's doing is blankly looking at me. From the looks of things, all her energy has been depleted."Roxy, I am so sorry I–" I begin but her reaction makes me stop talking. She stands up from her seat and begins to walk away as if I wasn't even talking to her. Like a zombie, she's walking away, without a word. She doesn't even dare to look back and heads for the large double door, giving Blake a look of disgust.I turn to face my mom and she's busy scowling at Blake, I turn to Scott and he has his eyes focused on Blake too. Vic is wiping his tears with the hem of his shirt and then Scott's dad's face looks more familiar now. I've seen him on TV
