The air in the café suddenly felt heavy as Megan shifted uncomfortably in her seat. Her cheeks turned a shade redder though I wasn’t sure if this was due to embarrassment or unease. She took a deep breath before opening her mouth.

"I... I lied," Megan began hesitantly. "About Tristan and me being engaged. It wasn't true. I made it all up to mess with you.”

I stayed silent, staring at her, waiting for her to say something else. Honestly, I was waiting for her to apologize, to say sorry for everything she did to me. I waited for a while until I realized that it was the only thing she came to talk to me about. To say that I was disappointed was an understatement.

Megan's irritation flared instantly. Her brows furrowed, and she leaned forward defensively. "I came here to come clean but you keep giving me this attitude. It’s insulting."
