CHAPTER 5-FETCHING THE ALPHA’S BREAKFAST-RAVEN

Raven left Alpha Jones’s living quarters as fast as she could. Her feet hurt, and she felt tired after having worked all evening. The run home didn’t help her aching feet. Sensible shoes didn’t matter. Raven descended three flights of stairs. After that, she’d the impossible mission of finding something he wouldn’t throw back at her.

The place was still abuzz when Raven arrived on the main floor. She tried to move toward the kitchen when someone blocked her way.

“What is going on? Who are you?” A she-wolf got in Raven’s face and demanded of her.

“I’m no one special and when you figure out what’s going on, please tell me. Because I’m confused, now if you’ll excuse me but the Alpha wants me to deliver him his breakfast.”

“Oh no, that’s not something you’ll do. It’ll be my pleasure to do it. It’s not right that some no name bitch does it.”

“If you want to go against his specific orders. That’s your decision I won’t stop you.” That stopped the she-wolf.

“You have a brain. After all, I’m the next Luna here.”

“Oh? Congratulations. You’re the fated mate he’s not looked for?”

“I’d rather say he’s chosen me.” She preened like some bird.

       “May I know your name?”

She gasped. “I can’t believe you don’t know who I am. I’m Hilary Gibson. Remember that.”

“Oh, I’m sure I won’t forget it.” Raven used her hand to point toward the kitchen and she’d allow Hilary to lead the way. Allowing wolves like this enough rope to hang themselves was sometimes the easier option. ‘Chosen mate’? Maybe he’d fixate on Hilary rather than her. She didn’t see Alpha Jones having any patience for Hilary’s entitled attitude. But Raven knew she could be mistaken.

“What did he say he wanted?” Hilary asked. She demanded to know.

       “Breakfast.”

“Certainly, what does he desire to eat for breakfast?”

Raven sighs. “He told me to figure that out.”

Hilary laughs at that, catching the attention of several of the kitchen staff as they went about their business.

“Well then, I’ll be sure to impress him with my expert taste.”

“I’m sure as his chosen mate you’ll know exactly what he likes to eat. Unlike myself.” Raven had tried to remember what he used to eat for breakfast when they were in school. She let Hilary hurry around the kitchen, getting into the other wolves’ way.

“Out of my way. I’m getting the Alpha his breakfast.” She acted like it gave her some status or importance.

“Do you believe Alpha will appreciate all the trouble you’re going through?” Raven asked. She looked at the head cook and waved the she-wolf away with a subtle wink.

When Hilary had her tray piled high with food, she thought Alpha Jones would enjoy it. Hilary breezed past Raven with a few words for her. “Don’t bother following me. We’ll be busy for a while with each other, and we won’t want any interruptions.”

When the door closed behind Hilary. “Oh, boy. This won’t end well.” Lina, the head cook, said. “You were instructed to bring the Alpha his breakfast, weren’t you? I heard Hilary outside the kitchen. She doesn’t know he’s upset, and she won’t listen. You handled her very well.”

“Yeah, that sums up what just happened.”

“Set up a tray and go upstairs. He’ll be throwing her out of his quarters as soon as she enters.”

“He won’t forgive her as his chosen mate?”

“Chosen mate? Hah! She is only fooling herself. He took her to a gallery opening a few weeks ago. Nothing more.”

“Oh. Well, I could hope someone else could distract him.”

       “What did you do?”

“If I knew, I wouldn’t have done it.”

“Fair enough. What would you like to feed him?”

“Black coffee and an egg sandwich with cheese, tomato, lettuce, bacon, and ketchup on toasted whole-wheat bread.”

       “You do know him.”

“I went to school with him. Though he doesn’t remember me.”

“You will be surprised about what he knows and remembers but doesn’t mention. He’s not one who explains himself. Okay, your tray is ready. Go show Hilary how to follow orders. Oh, what’s your name?”

Raven blinked in surprise. “Oh, uh, Raven. Raven Miller. Sorry, I should have introduced myself first, but I was thrown off by Hilary.”

“Don’t be sorry. You weren’t the she-wolf who should apologize.”

“Thanks again for the help and understanding. I must leave before he searches for me.”

“You need to find out what you’ve done. That’s not like the Alpha.”

“I know. He’s always ignored me.”

“Just follow his every command and you’ll survive.”

       “What has everyone here?”

“The Alpha has something to tell everyone, and he’s ordered everyone to attend.”

“Oh … Thanks.” Raven resisted cursing. She knew it involved the Millers and it wouldn’t end well for her.

At the door, another wolf stopped her. His arms crossed in front of him as he glared down at her. “What does the Alpha want with you?”

“I’m sorry, I don’t know. You’ll have to ask him.”

       “What did you do?”

“Again, I’m sorry, I don’t know. You’ll have to ask him.” Raven struggled not to stare the wolf down. She needed to shut down this conversation and be on her way before Alpha Jones came looking for her.

“You do have an attitude, don’t you?”

Raven couldn’t respond. They heard the Alpha’s raised voice, echoing through the Pack house. “I should go. This is his breakfast.”

“Hilary took it up to him.”

“Oh. Did you see what she took?”

       “No.”

“Right. He’s hungry and upset. He instructed me to bring him his breakfast.”

“Fine go. But I’ll speak to him soon.”

Raven nodded and went upstairs. Everyone heard the argument coming from the third floor.
