Chapter six
After taking a train to the other side of town and stopping at her regular street vendor, Dawn sipped her cup of latte as she walked the two blocks to work.
When she arrived at her desk, she took out her phone, connected it to her computer, and dove straight into answering a few emails.
Dawn worked at the consultation department in one of the rookie companies in Newburg and her position as a canvasser was certainly not her dream job but it was worth the while.
You'd think that marrying a millionaire would make her a sturdy housewife but she loved to work and sitting home all day made her feel more of a liability than an actual wife.
"I don't get why you work so hard" Becky, her best friend who had stepped in just a few minutes after her, chipped in, her bristly oil silk hair coming to sight as she spun around her chair with a pen between her teeth.
"You're married to a billionaire, you should be in luxury right now, not working your butt off for fifty thousand bucks every month"
"Millionaire" she corrected "David is a millionaire and keep your voice down will you"
Becky shrugged and spun her chair around "Millionaire, billionaire it all sounds the same to me. My point is, if I was married to a millionaire I'd be in the Bahamas right now, sitting on the beach and getting my spa treatment done"
"And that explains why you're still a single mother"
Dawn sighed. Suddenly reminded of Amanda. "Speaking of mother-in-laws. Amanda is in town"
Her brows jumped up with interest. "Amanda the green witch?"
"Yes, Amanda the green witch and now I'm supposed to attend this charity event and try to get along with her. I still can't believe I'm doing this. I mean, how am I supposed to pretend like she didn't try to set up a blind date for David or like she didn't almost insect spray my face mistaking me for a bug"
Becky stifled her laughter. "That last part was funny though" she giggled and Dawn sent her a dark look.
"Okay, okay, you need to calm down and just breathe, it's clear she's just overprotective and doesn't want someone ripping off her son's wealth"
"Do I look like a gold digger? Everything I own I worked for it"
"You don't really have to like her, it's only for tonight just get along for David's sake okay"
"Now you sound like David" she rolled her eyes, turning back to her computer and aggressively thumping on the keyboard"
"Come on Dawn. Just do what you do best. Smile, nod, and pretend like she doesn't exist"
Dawn turned and before she could say anything else, Gorge, the HR manager walked by, no doubt wanting to stick his nose in what was assuredly not his business.
"Morning Gorge" Dawn greeted.
"What's so great about the morning" he snorted, perching on the edge of her desk "you, Dawn, I need a favor" he slapped a pile of paperwork on her desk.
"I need you to sort the stock market ratings and send it to the fax machine."
"I believe I don't have water in my mouth" his voice held a hint of annoyance. "Do it before lunch break or you'll work extra hours"
"I can do it if she doesn't want to" Becky chimed in, rotating her pen in my mouth.
Gorge turned to her and then turned back to Dawn. "You do it. You seem to be the only sane one in this building, excluding me of course"
"Hurtful" Becky faked a pout and rolled back to her side of the office.
"I'll do it" Dawn smiled.
"Great! I'll be expecting it soon" he said and walked away.
Dawn looked down at the paperwork.
She sighed.
This was going to be hectic.

After a busy day at work, Dawn returned home and took a few minutes to mentally prepare herself before getting dressed.
She had disappeared into the bathroom, waxed her legs even if it was excruciatingly painful, sorted out her dress, redid her hair into a French bun, and now, standing against the full-length mirror, she ran her hands down her smooth curves, examining the tight fitted dress she had on - courtesy of her dear friend, Becky who insisted she dressed like Roxy the stripper.
The royal blue halter gown glittered, exposing a huge amount of skin as it dipped low on the back. It was the most expensive dress she'd ever owned and David had gotten it for her for this special occasion.
She turned to the side and nodded her head impressively. The dress hugged her every curve and showed off the perfect amount of skin to be sexy without tilting to slutty. It was perfect.
David whistled his way out of the bathroom and stopped short when his eyes drifted off to his wife and for a split second, he watched, his eyes sweeping from her face down to her legs as she bent over the contour table and fixed her diamond earrings on.
Now that he thought about it, she did look a little fuller around the hips and buttocks. Dawn wasn't skinny and certainly not on the plus-size either, it was safe to say she was between the latter, what the magazines dubbed 'Thic'.
Spotting his stare from the rear view of the mirror made Dawn turn and smile nervously.
"How do I look?" She asked, biting her lip slightly. Unlike David, who had this self-assurance of knowing his place at the top of the food chain, she was a nervous wreck with a lot of insecurities but whatever doubt she had all seemed to fully erase when he hugged her from behind and kissed her shoulders.
"Beautiful," he said, kissing her again. "Absolutely gorgeous"
"The dress is incredible, isn't it?"
"It's not the dress, Dawn. It's the woman wearing it. I must be the luckiest man in the world to have a woman this stunning sharing a house with me"
"Don't flatter me David" she chuckled, turning around to face him.
"I can't help it. No one should be this tempting"
She wrapped her arm around his neck and gave him a small smile. "Humor me"
"Honestly Dawn, you are beautiful, so beautiful that I had to shut off my porn because none of the girls in it were as sexy as you" His voice was gravelly, and his mouth nibbled its way up to her ear. He was up to something. She had spent a lot of time with him to know that his sweet whispers of nothing only led to one thing.
"Is that suppose to make me feel better?"
His lips went to her neck as his arms banded around her waist and locked them behind her back."Well yes." He sucked lightly.
"David" She choked, swallowing back a moan "David, we shouldn't keep your parents waiting"
"A few minutes will do them no harm" he purred, lifting her on the counter. "Now," His hand caressed its way down her body, landing on her bare thigh.
He spoke directly into her ear as he nudged her legs open. "Spread your legs for me. I want to bury my face between your legs"

"Great" she flipped her hair back "I went from looking like Princess Sophie to Harley Quinn"
David chuckled. "I think Harley Quinn is quite sexy"
Dawn turned around to glare at him, however, she couldn't stay mad for long for she had to admit that she missed him and longed for his kisses. He just had a better at letting his feelings out.
"Next time, just don't it"
He shrugged simply "I'm sorry but when it comes to you I seem to always lose control"
Dawn parted her lips but pressed it back shot and sighed. "Let's just go before your mother rains hell on both of us"
When they arrived at the entrance of the building that looked like it could house a tower of giraffes, a petite-looking French woman in her late 50s who was presumed to be David's mother approached them. "You're late!' She snapped - her elegant nightdress and flamboyant accessories glittering in the flashing camera light
"We ran into some little difficulties mother" David explained, pulling her into a hug and kissing her cheek out of courtesy.
"If I didn't miss you so much, I would've scolded you more" she basked in his warmth.
"I missed you too mother" David cooed.
"You don't call, you don't visit, I believe to think that I raised you better than this " she queried, pulling away lightly and rearranging her leopard patterned scarf around her throat.
"I've been busy mother" and he was.
"As long as you're healthy I'm good"
Dawn stepped forward, clearing her throat softly before speaking.
"Hi Mrs. Amanda, it's so nice to see you again" she greeted, flashing a half-smile.
Amanda turned, her tight smile more spite than sweet. "You came," she said dryly, returning her gaze to David "I thought your father made it clear that strangers weren't needed here"
David sighed. "She's my wife, mother, not a stranger" he stated, feeling the need to defend her but Dawn didn't mind, she was used to it and frankly, she didn't want to be here either.
"Well if you say so" Amanda sighed dramatically "Your father is in his study, I advise you don't waste any more of his time"
"Alright mother" he kissed her cheeks and then turned to Dawn."I'll be back before you know it"
"Okay," she said, looking a bit wary of him leaving her alone.
He pulled her closer to his side and whispered in her ears. "I love you more than anyone in this room" He kissed her temple and Dawn smiled, watching him disappear into the crowd whilst leaving the two women to an awkward moment of premeditated silence.
"Lovely party" Dawn commented internationally, trying to break the rather awkward silence.
"It's a function" Amanda corrected pointedly, looking at everyone else but her.
"Oh, lovely function"
"Don't try too hard Dawn. It doesn't suit you" She scoffed and walked away.
Dawn sighed. This was definitely going to be one long uncomfortable event.
Dawn pressed her lips together and shut her eyes, taking a deep breath before shaking her head and strolling over to the quencher counter where she picked up a glass and looked around.Although it was not customary for invitations to request special attire, people dressed ostentatiously; women in evening gowns and men in dinner jackets. She certainly didn't belong in a place like this and though she would've much rather preferred spending the night laying on her bed and reading a book, David was very persistent and knew just how to get what he wanted. As she poured herself a glass of freshly squeezed juice, the stage lights flicked on, revealing an elegantly dressed man who walked up to the microphone and flashed a smile with jacket was thrown roguishly over his shoulder, as if he were posing for one of his television ads.It didn't take up to a few minutes for the crowd to coo amusedly and turn all attention to him."Hello everyone" he greete

Dawn had stayed locked up inside the guest room, pretending to be asleep while David scurried around, trying to get ready for work. When she was certain that he'd finally left the house, she got out of bed and tidied herself before heading to work.It was probably for the best, If she didn't see him then she wouldn't be reminded of the things he'd said but now at work, all she could think about was him.She picked up her phone and stared at his caller ID, eager to press the call button but at the same time, not wanting to seem easy.Sighing, she locked her phone and set it aside, leaning to rest her head on her desk and letting out a dry sob."If you miss him that much you could just call, you know" Becky suggested, watching her friend in amusement."It's not that easy" she mumbled, sighing into her arm. "I can't just call him, he'll think I'm an easy fix""And this is why I don't do commitments" she sighed dramatically."I just
A FEW WEEKS LATER...Dawn stared at herself in the mirror, a light blush on her face as she analyzed the bright red burns evident on her neckline.Last night was amazing...Her hand instinctively brushed against her slightly swollen lip, allowing the image of their heated foreplay replay itself in her head — his kisses, whispers of sweet nothings, his teeth melting into her skin, tongue over her nipple, finger inside her deep sex.It was tremendous, she thought, utterly fantastic and beyond wonderful to have a husband who was so mad for her. They didn't usually see one another during the day for he had his work and she had hers, but at night, he pounced on her like a horny lion possessed with the need to release its pent-up desires. His energy seemed endless — always trying new things, positioning her in new ways, teasing and tormenting until she was screaming and begging, never sure whether it was for him to stop or keep go
Dawn sat on her chair, one hand propping up her chin and the other absentmindedly tapping a pencil on the dusty board desk. You'd think with how much revenue they charge they'd afford more janitors or perhaps, a working air conditioner. She sighed, turning to glance at Mike, the leader of the editors' team who sat on her right, leaning back into his seat whilst seemingly trying to count the number of tiles on the ceiling. Either that or he was muttering to himself, which wasn't entirely impossible considering he had a mental health record. To her left was her desperate best friend who unsuccessfully tried to pay attention to George's monotonous lecture on how the stock charts had waned pitifully low regardless of the fact that they had spent sleepless nights reading, re-reading, and analyzing every single method on market ratio.Releasing a loud breath, she slouched on her spot, dazing into oblivion but the sudden buzz of her phone startled her from nearly
The last fifteen minutes ride had been a silent nightmare. They'd both stayed mute, unwilling to talk as they wrestled with their inner thoughts of what-ifs.When they reached home, Dawn got out of the car as soon as it stopped and quickly walked into the house without waiting or checking to see if he'd followed behind but he did and before she could climb the stairs, he grabbed her hand to stop her. "Dawn, honey, I'm sorry okay. I shouldn't have let her get that close" he stated, trying to pull her close but Dawn freed herself and walked ahead of him to their bedroom. His words might have been sincere and genuine but she didn't care, at least not now. Not now that her body boiled with a type of anger she couldn't describe. She knew about his past, she knew he'd probably slept with half the women in the Boroughs of New York City, she just never really wanted to accept it and frankly, she didn't expect the reality of it to sting s
The bright sun seeping throughthe window had woken Dawn up the next morning. Her eyes fluttered lightly, trying to adjust her momentarily blurred vision as she attempted to move away from the bed only to realize that she had fallen asleep on David's naked chest.Looking down, she groaned, mentally cursing at herself for letting him have his way with her. She made a motion to roll off him, but his warm arm snaked around her back and kept her in place. "Are you trying to leave me again?" He asked, his hands rounding her tighter.Dawn ignored his question and made another attempt to get off him but he held her firm, enjoying her struggle as it only added to the friction in which her breast rubbed against his chest."David let go" she murmured, scrambling on his chest.David stifled his chuckle. "Thought you'd never talk to me""Wish I didn't have to" she muttered, narrowing her eyes to the side as she conti
David was troubled. The time clocked 8:25 yet, there was no sign of Dawn and that bothered him.His fingers drummed the gold-clothed table, agitation in his every move as he bit on his bottom lip occasionally. The last time this had happened it didn't end so well and frankly, he didn't know what he'd do if she didn't come home or at least take his damn calls."You need to relax man" Tanner, who'd been watching him for quite some time advised, clamping a hand over his shoulders to reel him out of his thoughts."How can I?" He sighed."You worry too much, she's probably out with her best friend"He blew out a frustrated whoosh of air. "I doubt""Come on David, I brought you out here to have a good time with me and not think about your wife like she's some lost princess""You don't understand Tanner" he just couldn't help it. He just couldn't think straight. He needed to see her and at least know she
DAVID COUGHED, reaching for the napkin and slapping it over his mouth as his eyes gaped unbelievably at the photo that had taken about three more blinks to fully register. He zoomed him and felt his mouth water. It wasn't her large breasts or spicy red nipples that had excited him per se (he had seen them so many times that he memorized every hit and hatter ) it was the look on her face — a look he had never seen before. It thrilled him, more so that his throat tightened and he coughed again, earning a confused look from his parents."Are you alright David?" Amanda asked, and he nodded quickly, reaching to drink from his glass of water."What's the meaning of this?" He typed back a quick response but in return, received another photo, and the mere thought of what her fingers might have been doing between her thighs made his member twitch excitedly. He released an unholy grunt and typed quickly. Hell, she needed to be taught a lesson.
A MONTH LATER..."You son of a Gun!" Tanner's voice reverberated through the Bluetooth earpiece, forcing a flinch out of David as he drove in through the iron gates."Can you fucking stop yelling, my ears still hurt" he groaned, pulling into the garage and turning off the ignition. "Why does it matter to you who your assistant dates, you clearly said you weren't into her""But we had sex!""You have sex all the time," he said rather pointedly, narrowly rolling his eyes as he opened his trunk to retrieve his suitcase. "Look, if it bothers you so much that she went out with another guy, stop being a big pussy and do something about it.""It doesn't bother me," Tanner snapped half-heartedly."So why the fuck are we having this conversation then?" David drawled back, locking his car and making his way to the entrance of the house."Nothing. I don't know. Fuck man. I think I just need to eat her out again. Yes, that
Dawn awoke suddenly, her brain flat in battery as the exertions of last night took a heavy toll on her.Being caught in a marathon of erratic problem-solving, she had gotten little to no sleep and her phone wasn't any help either as it went on with ringing relentlessly. She groaned in distress, turning away from the egg yolk sun and shooting her hands out on the table to grab her phone. Had it been a call from work or Becky, she would've ignored it, however, it was Tanner's name that flashed on the screen and he seldom called her except on rare important cases."Hello?" She spoke drowsily into the phone but there was no reply and after a passing second, she pulled the phone away from her ears to double-check the ID."Tanner, are you there?" She asked again, picking up rapid breaths from the environment."Turn on the news Dawn" he finally spoke, his voice heavy and grim. It made her crease her brows in worry."Did anything happen?
Dawn disentangled herself fromJacob as quickly as she could. "David-d I can-n explain." she stuttered, her words already failing her as she caught sight of the burning fury in his eyes."What the fuck is going on Dawn?!" he lashed, the vein in his forehead pulsating as his anger grew beyond measure."Please let's go." she begged as a few people nearby stood and began to stare, none daring to intervene."What's going on here?" Jacob jumped in, his masculine impulse making him straighten his shoulders. "Dawn, do you know this guy?""This guy?" David repeated, curling his hand into a ball as he finally looked up the idiot who had his filthy hands all over his wife."Look, I don't know who the hell you are but you have no right to waltz in here and harass her like you own the place.""Fucking stay out of this." he gruffed and turned his attention back to Dawn. "We're leaving" he reached for her but Jacob stepped partially in fr
