I run my hand through my hair as we leave the third bar. Where is he?
As Kai and I rush back to his car, he points up the road. “The next place is a little distance up this way. I think that is the place you said Alex owns a hotel close by. Let’s hope we get lucky and find him before he does something really stupid.”
My heart aches as I nod. “Yeah. Let’s try there.”
I still can’t believe I have gotten myself into this situation. How could I have even let that witch Bridget kiss my cheek? I was even dumber, though, for letting her kiss my lips. Those are reserved for Alex only. No one else is going to touch them ever again.
As we zoom down the road, Kai tentatively asks, “Do you think we should call Paul and Chance to come help look for him? They might know where he has gone.”
At this point, I’m willing to try any
My head throbs as I slowly open my eyes and glance around the room. A sense of relief washes over me as I quickly recognize my penthouse apartment. The events from yesterday flashes through my mind and my relief soon vanishes into thin air as a wave of panic shoots through me.Did I do anything with that woman? I don’t know what she looks like. I don’t even know her name. How could I be so stupid?Plus, I never bring a one-night stand to my place, even if it isn’t where I’m staying at the moment.I slowly look to my side, trying not to move in case I’m not alone. I exhale in relief when I find the bed empty. However, when I turn back toward my nightstand, another wave of panic washes over me as my eyes land on a glass of water and a couple of pills.No. Please tell me that woman isn’t here.As I move slightly under the covers, a
With David right beside me, I walk into the bar and scan the area. I quickly spot our group of friends in the back corner.A wide grin spreads across my face when my eyes land on Chance, who flashes me back a cheesy grin and motions for us to come over.David leans towards me and whispers, “I can tell he already thinks he has won. I can’t wait to see what he is going to do when he finds out he didn’t.”My grin morphs into a smirk as I nod. “Well, we will soon find out.”With my head held high, we walk through the crowd to the table. As I sit down across from Chance, I grab one bottle of beer from the center of the table. Before I can even take a drink, Chance huffs, “Are you ready to give me your keys? You know you can’t avoid it.”A soft chuckle spills from me and David as I shrug my shoulders and take a drink of beer.Kai, sit
Chance glares at me from across the table while his nostrils flare. His eyes boring holes right through me while steam rolls off him in waves and slams against me. Our eyes lock and we instantly fall into a silent battle. I will not back down.I keep my brilliant smile directed at him, while he returns it by shooting daggers at me with his eyes. Our battle of wills continues on in silence for a few minutes before he finally grunts and suddenly marches off towards the front of the bar. But first, he kicks the chair, laying on the floor behind him, off to the side. What the heck?I stare at his back as he disappears through the sea of people. I fight back the urge to celebrate as my victory is damped by the impending cold war which I know is coming next.My smile fades after a few seconds before I whip around towards Kai. “You better go follow him. You never know what he is goi
My eyes wonder ahead of me to Alex as he talks with Paul and Chance on our way to his class. My gorgeous boyfriend is getting better at walking with his crutches, but he still stubbles from time to time.A faint smile adorns my face as my eyes take in Alex’s tone body. However, there is also a heaviness in my chest which I can’t quite place. I think it has something to do with my mom’s birthday party, but I’m not sure.Alex seems a little off since the other night at the bar.I can understand his hesitation, though. I remember the social event when I met his parents for the first time. However, anger soon took over me, as his parents were nothing but rude and arrogant. I’m also thankful Brandon’s father was there and could defuse the situation rather quickly.Luckily, my baby doesn’t have to worry about something like that happening with my parents.
I stand next to the engineering building, and my feet are anchored to the ground as anger washes over me.How dare he act like this.Chance’s question has sliced right through the air and caught Kai off guard. Silence engulfs the area as all eyes are on us.Kai’s previous proud stance with his chest puffed out has evaporated within seconds, along with his triumphant smile, which has now morphed into a frown. His eyes lock next to me on my fuming friend as a low growl spills from Chance’s snarling lips.Even Brandon and Paul take a step back as Chance’s face turns bright red and steam rolls off him.I don’t have to look beside to me. I know what is going to happen next. His heavy grunts and the low growl tell me all I need to know.I take a step back as Paul quickly pulls me further out of range.I look down the side of the building at Davi
I’m still a little disappointed I didn’t get to see a catfight. I would bet the engineering girls would have pummeled the witch pretty good.I really want to see her eat her own words. It is only right after what she has done to Kai and Chance.Buzz.While leaning against the wall, I pull my phone out of my pocket and glance down at it. My heart aches reading Paul’s message. They have gotten Chance back to his room, but he is a total mess. I quickly type a reply and let him know the girl almost got her butt kicked by some female hazers.I glance up and look across the room at Kai. He hasn’t moved since we got him back into his bedroom. As soon as he walked in, he climbed on his bed and curled up into a ball. He has said nothing since we left campus. The only sounds he makes now are a few sniffles and some soft sobs from time to time.I want to make
Well, my plan didn’t work as well as what I thought it would. It did finally work, though, but it took us most of the week to wear Chance down, so he would forgive Kai.To say the week has been pure chaos would be an understatement. However, one upside with running around like a crazy man and not having a minute to worry about anything else is I also haven’t had a chance to think about going home with David for his mother’s birthday party.Unfortunately, I’m making up for the entire week of worrying and doubting myself on the drive to his parents’ house.I take another deep breath as I continue to stare out the window. The scenery blurs by as my mind wonders what will happen this weekend. Will it be as easy as David says? We show up and everyone falls in love with me.Hey, I don’t even believe that.My foot bounces while my fingers fidget with the seam a
I can’t hold back my smile as David’s mother piles more food onto my plate. Memories from when my grandparents were alive keep flashing through my mind. This feels so much like them and like home.I have missed this feeling ever since they have passed away. I honestly thought I would never get this feeling back again. My cheeks ache as I smile even wider as the woman sets the bowl of food down. “Alex, do you want anything else? Are you going to have enough to eat? I could make you something else if you don’t like anything here.”David chuckles beside me. “Mom. Stop it. Let him eat what you have already put on his plate. I’m sure he will have enough to eat, so stop worrying.”His father, who is sitting at the head of the table, sighs and looks at his wife. “Dear, you just met the boy. Stop trying to smother him.&n
My stomach flutters as I look into the mirror. The day has finally come, and much faster than I had originally planned, but I’m not afraid. I want it this way. I scan my reflection from head to toe and make sure nothing is out of place. My white tuxedo almost glows, while my hair is shines. I move my black tie a little until it is just where I want it. The corners of my mouth curl upward and I softly whisper, “Perfect.” Chance walks into the room and grunts, “Of course you look perfect. I wouldn’t expect anything less.” He marches upside me and stares at me through the mirror. “I still can’t believe you have actually given up your Casanova title and all the girls. But I’m glad you have finally found your true happiness. Too bad your grandparents aren’t here to see you, though. However, I’m sure they are looking down upon you, though, and are cheering for you.” Paul steps into the room a
My eyebrows knot together as I look at David. What have I missed? I’m sure we have covered everything. As my mind continues to run through our game plan, David flashes me a huge grin and pulls me flush against his firm and muscular body. His deep husky voice sends a warm shiver through my entire body as he chimes, “This.”Before I can register what he has said, his moist lips capture mine in a passionate kiss.Heat rushes through my body as I snake my hands around his neck and pull him tighter against me. However, before my lust can surge and consume me, the moment crumbles to pieces when Paul and Kai pull us apart from each other.I whip my head around and glare daggers at my friend. At the same time, the cheers and whistles from the crowd in the cafeteria, along with their clapping, roars through my ears. I quickly swallow my words and scan the crowd.Paul nudges my arm.
I walk into the cafeteria with my head held high and my smirk shining bright. This is the day I’ve been waiting for. Today, we will end this headache and teach the person a lesson. With a spring in my step, I stride over to our usual table. I nod at the additional engineering students at and around our table. My smirk grows bigger as a spark dances around in my eyes as I greet my friends. “Hey, guys. Are you ready for this?”Brandon flashes me a brilliant smile as he nods. “I’m ready. My father has everyone on standby and waiting for our signal. Then they will end everything for us.”I nod and sit down next to David. I give him a quick kiss on the cheek. “Hey, babe. Did you miss me?”He turns and smiles back at me. “Yes, I did. Are you going to give me something special to ease my frustrations for wai
Steam rolls off me as I march into the hazer’s office. All eyes immediately turn towards me as I roar, “Tell me you know who this bastard is! I want the person strung up and taken care of right away!”I storm behind my desk and whip around, facing everyone. I narrow my eyes and slam my hand down on my desk. “I WANT ANSWERS, NOW!!!”An eerie silence falls over the room as I snarl and plop down in my chair. The image of Alex’s concerned face flashes through my mind. We have so many people working on this, and someone knows something.Plus, this has dragged on for far too long. This whole thing needs to end, and soon. One way or another, I’ll make sure it ends.Kai clears his throat and shifts in the chair in front of my desk. “We have looked at everything, but we keep coming up empty. What do you want us to do?”I raise an eye
I wrap my arm around Alex’s waist and rest my chin on his shoulder. I softly ask, “Babe, are you alright? You haven’t been talking much the last few days or bickering with Chance.”He hasn’t been doing a lot of things since we left that meeting with his parents. I called my parents to let them know what had happened, and my mother showed up the next day and spoiled him. Even though she was able to get him to smile, the spark in his eyes was still gone.I have lost count of the number of times she told him she is his mother and no one else matters. However, I can understand how Alex is still fixated on his parents picking their business over their family and him. I can’t even imagine the pain he is going through.Later, Brandon’s father confessed he would have helped them had they said they wanted Alex over any business deal. Unfortunately, now, his parents are stuck d
David wraps his arm around my waist as we walk into the restaurant. “Baby, are you sure about this?”I nod and glance over my shoulder at the others. “As long as our friends are here and Brandon’s father, I have nothing to worry about. My parents won’t do anything to make him think less of them. They want his approval. Plus, they don’t want any rumors getting out about them, which is why I picked a popular restaurant for our meeting. Whatever their problem, it must be important, otherwise they wouldn’t have agreed to meet here. They would have requested someplace else a little more private.”Even though my words come out cold, my gut twists and my heart aches. This is all a game to them in order to get ahead in the business world. Why do they insist on roping me in on it, too? They could have had a good life without involving me.He kisses the side of my h
I shake my head and stare across the cafeteria table at Brandon. “My gut is telling me it is someone close. I hate to admit this, but I think it is someone really close to us. I’m hoping I’m wrong. I work very hard to only have trustworthy and reliable people around me, but this all seems a little too personal.” He presses his lips together. “I understand what you are saying, but I still don’t believe it is someone who is close to us. I can vouch for Kai. He would never do anything like this. You already know David is livid about everything that has happened, so you know it isn’t him. Plus, he doesn’t have anything to gain by doing it.” He glances around the almost completely empty area before he turns back to me. “I still put odds on it being your parents or the girl who they wanted you to marry. You were too pissed off and were shooting daggers are your parents to notice the look in the girl’s eyes.&
I sigh as I stare up at the night sky and lean against the balcony railing. Images from earlier dance through my mind. I knew the press conference meant everyone will know about us, but I honestly didn’t expect some upper classman to act like that. I know he knew who David was because the whole campus is talking about us now.I’m almost tempted to teach the guy a lesson, but engineering is David’s territory. I’ll let him and the other hazers handle it. I’m sure they have something up their sleeves.A faint smile dances across my face.Buzz.What is it now?I take a deep breath and pull my phone out of my pocket. I hesitate for a moment as I stare at the notification. Before I chicken out, I tap my phone. The message pops up along with a picture of me hitting the guy this afternoon. The corner of my mouth curls downward as I stare at th
I walk down the hallway towards the hazer’s room while ignoring all the whispers and murmurs swirling around me. Unfortunately, I can’t miss one particular cocky voice as he snickers, “If I knew the Casanova was going to go for guys, I would have swooped him up first before anyone else could have gotten their claws into him. He is an amazing catch.”My feet instantly stop, and I slowly turn my head towards the group of upper classmen just a little farther down the hall. The one who is spouting all the nonsense chuckles as he nudges the guy beside him. “You know I would. He is so fine.”I raise an eyebrow and shoot daggers at the arrogant jerk. When he opens his mouth to say something else, still oblivious to my presence, I cut him off. “Alex is very particular in what he likes. You would never pass his standards.” I emphasize ‘you’, while I narrow my eyes a
