Melanie didn’t like to hear Jefford expressing his care for her. His half-genuine tone made her feel uneasy, and so she used this chance to tease him, saying, “Seems like the bathroom is your favorite place.”

“Not exactly.”

Jeffrey knew that she wanted to run, and so followed along with her conversation and said, “If you want to blame someone, blame how the Yanceys like to renovate things to the point that the best path to use is through the bathroom.”

He came closer and looked at her under the moonlight.
