“Good morning Ma’am.” Employees greeted Isabella left and right as she walked to her office.
“Morning.” She replied with a smile on her face as if nothing had happened just last week. As if her world hadn’t almost ended last week. That was the magic of having breakfast with daddy dearest.
After her father left, she’d shrugged off the bad mood and got dressed for work then called her driver to bring the car around. The parazzi were still camping out in front of her apartment building as the driver exited the garage and onto the road joining the traffic. They were probably still waiting for her to come out of her hiding place into the real world so they could have something to put down in their freaking gossip magazines and whatnot but the joke was on them because she was out in the real world now and there was nothing to stop her.
Her employees were probably wondering why she looked so happy even though she really wasn’t on the inside. She’d thought that idiot Jencarlos would be the one but fate had proved her wrong and laughed in her face.
She got to her office, walked in and shut the door behind her then walked over to her desk and plopped down on her swivel chair.
A knock sounded on the door and Maddie came in carrying a tray containing her coffee, sugar and creamer. No one else knew how to make her coffee so she did it herself.
“Thanks Mads.” She said.
“Feeling better now?”. Maddie inquired.
“Just a little bit.” She pinched her thumb and forefinger together. “Daddy worked his magic yet again.”
Maddie smiled and took out her planner. “You have a meeting with the supplier for the diamonds you ordered for at 1…”
“Mads.” Bella called, cutting her off.
“Yes ma’am?”.
“Cancel all of my meetings until further notice.”
Maddie blinked. “Um… are you going somewhere ma’am?”.
“Yes. I’m going on a vacation.”
“Do you want me to book you a flight or…”
“Don’t sweat it Mads.” Bella smiled at her. “I’ll take daddy’s jet. I’m going to Africa to visit my mom.”
“That’s on the other side of the world.” Maddie’s eyes widened.
Bella laughed. “Baby needs her mama now.”
Maddie chuckled. “I understand ma’am but uh… why don’t you hold a conference call instead of cancelling all of them?”. She suggested.
“I guess you’re right.” Bella nodded. “Make the necessary arrangements then. I have to call my mom.”
“Yes ma’am.” Maddie nodded and walked out.
Bella took out her phone from her Louis Vuitton bag and turned it on and immediately all the messages and missed calls from her mother started coming in which made her sigh.
“Lo siento Mama.” She whispered as she clicked on her mother’s number and put the phone to her ear.
“Bella!”. Her mother cried when she picked. “Are you okay my dear girl?”.
Bella let out a wistful sigh. She’d missed her dear mother so much. “Yes mother I’m well. I’m really sorry I didn’t answer any of your calls. Daddy gave me a lecture today.”
“Good. I trust Vince.” She said.
“Are you okay Mom?”.
“No.” Aviva huffed. “I’m sick.”
Bella smiled when she heard that. “Didn’t Paul or Esther make you some soup?”.
“Not that kind of sick my girl.” Aviva tutted. “daughter sick. I miss you my dear girl. Please come and pay your dearest mother a visit even if for a few days.”
“Okay Mom.” Bella acquiesced. Like her father said, Aviva Arroyo would breathe down your neck until you gave in and did what she wanted but then if Aviva was happy, everyone else was.
“Really?!”. She exclaimed excitedly, sounding like a little girl who’d just being given a Barbie doll for Christmas.
“Yes Mom. It’s been years since I last visited Africa.” Bella said.
“So… when are you coming? Tomorrow?”.
Bella laughed. “Maybe sometime next week Mom. I have to take care of things here first and leave Aviva’s Pearls in capable hands.”
“Okay.” Aviva said. “I’ll be waiting.”
“Gotta go Mom. Talk to you soon. Love you.”
“I love you too baby.” Aviva sent her kisses then hung up.
“Now baby is happy… just a little bit.” Bella thought.

Bella was having lunch with her friends at Spinelli’s which was an Italian restaurant owned by her stepmother’s brother Cosimo Spinelli when the door to the restaurant opened and her ex fiance walked in with his new girlfriend and traitorous best friend Laura.
“How dare she?”. One of her friends Alaina gasped in shock.
“You have to do something Bells.” Her other friend Gaia said.
“Like what?”.
“Pull out her fake blonde hair for starters.” Alaina replied through gritted teeth as Laura and Jencarlos took a seat in a corner by the window.
“Or you could break that plastic nose of hers.” Gaia chimed in.
“Or I can just leave them alone in peace and move on. I mean I doged a mighty bullet.” Bella reminded them.
“For the third time.” Alaina nodded sagely. “Maybe you should just uh… forget all about men and swing Gaia’s way.”
“Ina!”. Gaia nudged her in the side. “What a crude thing to say.”
Bella laughed. “Truer words have never been spoken Gaia.” She told her. “I could do that but my very traditional mother would rather see me dead than a lesbian. She expects me to get married to a man… probably wealthy and give her lots of grandkids.” She rolled her eyes. “I hope to have one with an option of two.”
“So is she still living alone or she’s found someone else too like your dad?”. Gaia asked.
“Solo. She’s a godmother to almost everyone in town now.” Bella said. “I think she loves my dad so much that she can’t find anyone else to replace him.”
“They were so good together. I once wished to have a life like them.” Alaina pouted. “Guess Love is never enough.”
“Yeah they were…”, Bella’s voice trailed off as she noticed Laura coming towards them. “Talk about a mood spoiler.”
“Hey guys.” Laura greeted with a smile on her face and purposely waved at them with her left hand which had a huge diamond ring sitting on her ring finger.
“The nerve of this bitch.” Alaina growled.
“What do you want Laura?”. Bella inquired. Surprisingly the anger she was feeling a few days earlier had disappeared and all she felt was indifference now.
“To give you this.” She fished an invitation card from her clutch bag and handed it to her. “Jen and I are getting married at the end of this month.”
“He knocked you up already?”. Gaia snorted. “Smooth.”
Laura glared at Gaia but didn’t reply and faced Bella. “I’d really like it if you’d be my maid of honor Bella.”
“That’s it!”. Alaina shot up from her seat, grabbed her wine glass and threw it in Laura’s face. “How dare you ask that of her after everything you did?!”.
“Laina!”. Bella chided and paled when she noticed people already with their phones out recording the whole thing. It would go viral on the internet within the freaking hour. This was what she’d been trying to avoid.
“Like you didn’t do the same to your sister’s boyfriend back in school bitch!”. Laura snarled. “Second year in college remember?”.
“That happened a few weeks before they met but unlike you… you had no respect for her.” Alaina retorted. She picked up the IV and tore it to pieces. “Get the fuck out of my face puttana.”
“Just go Laura.” Bella was suddenly exhausted. “You’ve done enough already. Don’t take me for a fool because I did nothing, I just think it’s best I let it go. I hope you’re happy and it lasts.”
Laura glared venomously at Alaina and flounced off.
“Everything okay Bells?”. Cosimo Spinelli came out to meet her dressed in his chef uniform.
“Yes. Mi dispiace per il disturbo. Abbiamo finito di mangiare quindi ce ne andiamo.” Bella apologized.
“Va bene.” Cosimo said. “Do take care of yourself.”
“You as well.” She smiled. “Let’s go girls.” She picked up her bag and hurriedly left the restaurant with her friends behind her.
“That was epic.” Gaia commented when they were in the car and the driver drove off.
“That was disturbing.” Bella objected. “Exactly what I wanted to avoid but it happened anyway.” She sighed. “Anyhoo… thanks for standing up for me Laina.”
“Anytime girlfriend.” Alaina grinned.
“I’m going on a vacation to Africa. Mom wants me home for awhile.” She smiled when she remembered her mother’s words. “She’s daughter sick.”
“When are you leaving?”.
“Next week or I could surprise my mom and go at the end of this week.”
“You should surprise her.” Gaia agreed. “Aunt Avi loves surprises.”
“I’ll miss you.” Alaina sniffed and threw her arms around Bella. “Can I have your Manolo Blahnik crystal buckle pumps?”. She batted her eyelashes at Bella.
“Hey I called dibs on that first!”. Gaia protested.
“I have three pairs of those. I’ll give one to Maddie then you two can have the rest.”
“You’re such a darling.” Gaia air kissed her.
“Thanks babe.”
“You’re both welcome.”
“So do you need help packing?”. Gaia inquired.
“You know I do.” Bella grinned.
Jesse rolled out of bed at five am the next morning and went through the motions of taking his bath, shaving and then making Gwen’s breakfast and lunch at the same time before he went to wake her up by six fifteen to take her bath and like a good girl that she was, she never gave him any trouble at all.“You look tired daddy.” Gwen commented as he dressed her in her school uniform.“I’m okay sweetheart.” He assured her. “Don’t worry about me.”“Daddy?”. She called after a minute.“Yes honey?” He looked up from putting on her socks.“Remember Mrs Shalom said I shouldn’t come to school if you don’t pay my fees.” She reminded him.Jesse stared at his daughter with a frown on his face as he tried to remember if he’d had a conversation with the bursar after he dropped her off in school yesterday then it hit him and he sighed.“Yes I remember.” He sounded defeated. “I’ll talk to her to give me more time or I’ll talk to Mr Williams.”“I’m sorry daddy.” She apologized.“For what?”. He looked
“Mama warned you but you didn’t listen Jess.” His subconscious taunted him. “Were you blind when you gave your heart to this woman?!”.He probably had been insane. Yes that was the only explanation that he could come up with as he kept staring at Helena. Insanity.“Mommy!”. Gwen’s excited voice yanked him back to reality.“What do you want now Helena? Are you happy seeing me like this?”. He demanded.“Get in.” She ordered. “You look like you’re going to keel over any second.”“Thanks but no thanks.” He snapped. “We’ll be on our way.” He made to walk ahead but the passenger door opened and a big bald man alighted and blocked his way.“Get in or Francis will make you.” She informed him. “You wouldn’t want your little girl hurt.”“I have to get to work.”“I could make you lose this one too.” She threatened.Jesse huffed out a frustrated sigh, glared at the bald man, rounded the car with Gwen in his arms and got in.“Good boy.” She smiled. “Let’s go Hank.”The driver pulled away from the
Two days laterGwen was returning to their class from the playground after recess with Susan and they were talking animatedly about the new cartoon that was soon to be released in Cinemas when she accidentally bumped into Freda Thompson the queen bee of the school and the owner’s daughter.“Are you blind?”. Freda’s eyes flashed as she stared down at her shoe and saw Gwen’s footprint on her beautiful white sneakers. It was Friday so it was sportswear day in school.“I’m sorry. I didn’t see you.” Gwen apologized. She moved to clean Freda’s shoe when the girl angrily shoved her in the chest hard and she fell to the ground.“Don’t touch me!”. Freda snarled.“Hey! That’s not nice!”. Susan chided and bent to help Gwen up.Freda glared at the two of them and flounced off.“Are you okay Gwen?”. Susan inquired as she dusted off the dirt on Gwen’s clothes.Gwen put her hand on her chest and rubbed as her heart raced in her chest. “I’m fine.” She replied breathlessly.“Your heart?”. Susan looked
Nine years agoJesse walked into the sitting room and met his parents watching TV. His father had given him an ultimatum; choose Helena Johnson and be disowned or do without her and become CEO of his father’s bank.At the time he’d been madly in love with Helena and of course knew what his decision would be before his father even finished talking but he’d pretended to think about it and now he had an answer for them.“I’ve made up my mind Mom, dad.” Jesse spoke up making them turn to look at him.“Which is?”. James Billion asked.“Helena.” Jesse replied. “I love her very much and I can’t bear to lose her.”“Jesse!”. His mother had been appalled. “Don’t do something you’ll regret later.”“Are you sure son?”. James questioned. “If you walk out that door… you’re dead to me. You’ll no longer be a part of my family.”“I understand.” He had said. “Thank you for everything Mom, dad. I’ll take my leave now.” He turned and walked away without looking back. Now… Nine years later he was back – n
Jesse paced to and fro in the hallway of the hospital outside the children’s female ward holding the card in his hand. He was suddenly nervous to call the numbers on the card. What would he say? He couldn’t possibly tell her assistant that he was Aviva’s godson!.“Just call puss!”. His subconscious snapped. “Time’s a wasting.”“Right.” Jesse nodded, pulled out his phone from his pocket and quickly dialed the first number then clicked on the call button and put the phone to his ear before he could chicken out again.“Hello.” A male voice said.“Good evening.” Jesse greeted. “Am I speaking with uh… Aviva Arroyo’s assistant?”.“Yes, this is he.” Paul replied. “How may I help you?”.“My name is Jesse Billion and I need Mrs Arroyo’s help.” Jesse replied. “Jesse Billion? Of Monument bank?”.Jesse shrugged. “Yes but not anymore.”“I see.” Paul muttered. “What’s your problem?”.“My daughter is sick and she needs to have a heart transplant as soon as possible or she dies.” Jesse told him. “I
Isabella was not able to get away during the weekend but she made sure to leave Sunday evening and landed in Nigeria early hours of the morning around seven am.“I hope you enjoy your stay here in Nigeria.” Her father’s pilot Jennette smiled at Bella.“Thank you Jen.” She hugged the woman then descended down the stairs of the plane. The back door opened and her mother’s nephew Paul alighted from the car with a smile on his face.“Hi Paul!”. She waved and rushed to hug him. “Look at you!”.“Look at you too Aunt Izzy.” He said and turned her around for inspection. “You look fabulous!”.“Thank you.” She chuckled. “You don’t look bad yourself.”Paul watched as the bodyguards brought down Isabella’s bags and put them in the trunk of the car. There were so many bags of different sizes.“Are you relocating here?”. Paul looked amused.“No but I’m staying for at least three months.” She grinned.“Aunt Aviva is going to reach the skies.”Isabella laughed. “I can’t wait to see her. You didn’t te
A month laterFor about a few weeks, Bella corresponded with Jesse about Gwen's modeling gig after he gave his approval to let Gwen model for her winter collection and Bella could safely say that she and Jesse were becoming fast friends. He had an insane sense of humor that always made her laugh long after the conversation was over and Aviva saw this as a good thing which was why she made a call to Vincenzo the day before Jesse's and Gwen's arrival to tell him about her plan."You what?". Vincenzo sputtered. "You want to marry our daughter off? Why?"."I'm not marrying her off." Aviva refuted. "I'm just… looking out for her that's all.""How well do you know this guy?". Vince inquired. "For all you know,he might be a serial killer in disguise.""Don't be silly Vince." She admonished. "He's my godson.""The last time you saw him in person was almost thirty years ago. You didn't watch him grow up." Vince said. "What if he's a wife beater?".Aviva grunted in exasperation. "I wouldn't tel
The next morning Bella got out of bed, walked to the bathroom to do her morning routine then came out and quickly changed into her workout clothes, slipped her feet into her shoes and left her room. She carefully went downstairs so as not to wake anyone and straight to the kitchen to get a bottle of water. She shrieked when she turned on the lights and saw Jesse bare chested standing by the refrigerator guzzling down water."I'm sorry, did I scare you?". Jesse fought a smile when he noticed her averting her eyes. "It's... I didn't expect anyone else to be awake that's all." She walked to the fridge. She could see the sweat dripping down his neck and all the way down to the waistband of his sweatpants which made her mouth dry up."I've been awake since five." He told her. "heading to the gym?"."Yeah. And you?"."I'm just coming from there. That room is a dream." He sighed. "I can live there all my life and never get tired."Bella chuckled. "You're funny." She shook her head, opened t
Jesse opened the door to Bella's hospital room and poked his head in to see if she was awake and found her sleeping so he walked in and closed the door. He walked up to her bed and took a seat on the chair in front of her bed and just watched her sleep with a smile on his face. She looked even more beautiful than she was yesterday and he guessed it probably was because she was a new mom and… "You're staring." Bella said. Jesse blinked. "You're awake?". She opened her eyes and turned her head to look at him and frowned when she saw his red eyes. "Have you been crying?". She asked. "Uh... Well, not really." He shook his head. "I got to see the babies and uh... I couldn't help myself." "They're okay?". She asked. "Very okay." He replied. "We have three boys and a girl." "Three boys? Oh well." She smiled. "This means that I won't have to get pregnant again just to get a boy. I have three girls and three boys now." "Um..." He cleared his throat. "Do you know you just totally agreed
Months laterA phone ringing woke Jesse from his sleep and he reached out to pick it up from the bedside table, swiped the screen to answer the call and put the phone to his ear."Hello." He said groggily."Jesse! It's time!". Aviva exclaimed.Jesse's eyes flew open and he sat up in bed. "What's time?". He asked."Bella! The babies!". She said. "We're on our way to the hospital so meet us there.""Um... Okay. I'm on my way." He hung up, jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom to take a quick shower then came out and hurried to his closet to dress up.He was in the process of putting on his wristwatch when his bedroom door opened causing him to look up and saw Jessica standing there with an ashen look on her face."What's wrong?". He stood up.Jessica pointed towards Gwen's room but couldn't say anything."Jess? What's wrong?". He walked up to her."Gwen... Gwen..." She gasped leaning against the door frame as tears poured down her face. "She's... She's not waking up.""What?". He
"Jesse." Bella called. Jesse looked up at Bella in surprise. He'd not told anyone else except his mother and sister about Maitta's accident so he guessed that his mother must have called Aviva. "How's she?." Bella asked joining him on the sofa. "I don't know yet." He replied. "Gwen told me what happened." Bella said. "She didn't mean to do it." Jesse scoffed and said nothing. "She's not someone like that. You raised her." Bella reminded him. "Yes." He agreed. "But I didn't expect her to be so heartless that she'd hurt her own sister. I saw her smiling Bella." "Jesse... She's just a little girl." "Which is why I'm not raving mad right now." He said. "Everything will be fine." Bella told him. "You shouldn't have come. You need to be resting." He chided. "I'm pregnant, not an invalid." She said. Jesse chuckled and took her hand in his. "I'm glad you're here." He told her. "Family of Maitta Deacon?". The doctor approached them. "Yes. We're her parents." Jesse stood up. "
Maitta's sleep was disturbed as she kept inhaling smoke wondering sleepily where it was coming from until she opened her eyes and let out a scream when she saw the fire licking at her door. Her room was already so filled with smoke that she could hardly breathe so she took her robe and covered her nose with it and called out to Trisha tearfully. "Mommy!". She didn't want to get up from her bed. "Mommy!". She screamed. It was like a very horrible nightmare that she couldn't wake up from. She got out of bed when she saw that Trisha wasn't answering or banging on her door and ran to her window. She drew back the curtains and opened the shutters and was grateful for the breeze that was blowing in until she heard her bedroom door give way to the intense heat of the fire and fall to the carpeted floor then she really got to see how unsafe she was in the house from the fire raging in the hallway. "Daddy." She sobbed. "Daddy please save me." She couldn't climb out of her window because it
A week later "Can we talk Bella?". Jesse asked. Bella looked up from her laptop to him, surprised to see him but she only nodded and continued with her work. Jesse pulled back a chair and took a seat. He didn't say anything for a long while and just stared at her causing her to look up and raise a questioning brow. "Well? Are you going to say something or you are just going to watch me all day?". She inquired. "I'm sorry." He apologized. "For what?". She looked irritated. "For everything." "Okay?". She sounded bored. "I'm also sorry that I lied to you last week." He said. "You lied about so many things. What exactly are you sorry for?". Jesse took a deep breath. "I told you three weeks ago that I couldn't love you... well that was a big fat lie." He looked contrite. "I realized how much of a loser I was when I heard the news about your supposed death and all I could think of... was that I'd take everything back if I could get another chance with you." "Oh." Bella said. "So
Two weeks later "Daddy!". Gwen shook Jesse awake. "Wake up!". Jesse stirred and forced one eye open to stare at Gwen. He was hung over and felt like his head would come off if he attempted to lift it. He'd drank himself to stupor the night before after he and Aviva dropped Bella off at the airport. She'd insisted on taking a commercial flight back to Mexico and there was no talking her out of it so they'd let her and Aviva had cried on his shoulder making him feel like a horrible human being. He'd gone to the bar from the airport without inviting his friends but when he realized he'd drank too much, he called Olly who came to meet him and brought him home. "Daddy! Mommy is dead!". Gwen shook him. "Mommy is dead!". "Yes I know." He muttered. "Helena died months ago." "No! Aunt Bella!". Gwen exclaimed tearfully. Jesse's eyes flew open and he propped himself up on his elbow. "What?". "It's on the news." Gwen pointed to his TV. She grabbed the remote and turned it on, waited a fe
A few days laterBella sat in the gazebo working on her laptop when she heard the horn of a car that sounded very much like Jesse's and she suddenly lost interest in what she was doing and set her laptop aside.Jesse drove into the compound and pulled up in front of the house, alighted from the car and shut the door. He rounded the hood to open the door for someone and Bella saw a little girl get out of the car and her breath hitched in her throat when she locked gazes with Jesse and she wondered if he was going to come over but he steered the girl towards the house and they went inside.By the time Bella got inside the house and walked into the sitting room, she met her mother having an animated conversation with Jesse's daughter while he just watched them with an amused smile on his face.Jesse turned his head to look at Bella and his smile faded. He wondered why she was still around when she'd told him just two days ago that she was leaving and he'd told her goodbye but he really d
Gwen opened the door to Jesse's bedroom and slammed it shut when she saw Maitta sitting on his bed watching something on his laptop and laughing out loud but the door slam caused Maitta to look up at her in surprise."Oh, hi." Maitta said. "Want to watch Merlin with me?"."I don't like the movie." Gwen said. "What are you doing in my father's room?"."He told me I could stay. We were watching it together but he left to take a call." Maitta replied."I see." Gwen muttered."What do you like to watch then?". Maitta inquired."I watch movies like high school musical, Hannah Montana, Frozen and others." Gwen answered. "Merlin is an adult movie.""Daddy likes it." Maitta said.Gwen walked over to the bed and stopped in front of her. "Listen to me, I don't like you at all." Gwen informed her. "And just because you're his real daughter doesn't mean you'll take my father away from me with your miss perfect attitude."Maitta looked stunned. "But... I'm not trying to take daddy away from you."
"Maitta, this is the moment you've been waiting for." Trisha spoke up. "You've always wanted to meet your father and here he is. Say hello.""Hello." She waved shyly."Hi." Jesse said. He looked at the bear. "This is for you." He set the bear on the sofa.Maitta's eyes widened. "Really? It's huge!". She rushed to hug the bear."What do you say when someone gives you a gift?". Trisha asked her, frowning at her."Thank you." She said and blushed looking embarrassed."It's fine." Jesse said. "Can I take her now?"."Um... Sure." Trisha nodded. "She's eaten so she's good to go."Jesse smiled at Maitta and held out his hand. "Let's go?"."Okay." She shyly placed her hand in his and butterflies erupted in her stomach when Jesse's hand tightened around hers. "Bye mommy.""Have fun darling." Trisha bent and kissed her forehead. "Don't miss me too much okay.""Okay." Maitta nodded and left with Jesse.Trisha blinked back the tears that threatened to fall as she walked back to the kitchen to cle
