Later that evening we left my house telling my parents that I was going to sleep over at Rylee's. Since we frequently sleepover at each other's houses, my parents didn't even question it. We stopped by Rylee's room before heading over to meet Ace. I had told Rylee not to come with me. I didn't know what to expect, so I didn't want to put her in harm's way.
"You need to get changed." She remarks, throwing clothes at me.
"What? Why? What's wrong with what I have on?" I ask, looking down at my outfit.
"Nothing. But you need to go in disguise, or did you forget who your father is?"
"No. But what kind of disguise are we talking about? Or did you forget that I'm going to a secret club to fight people, not to look pretty." I state, with my arms crossed.
"Who do you take me for? Of course, I'm aware. But you can't just show your face there like that." She remarks.
"I still don't know what's wrong."
"Nothing. But the point of going is to make sure no one knows who you are. If you show up like that, everyone will know, and you definitely won't be safe if they find out that you're the stone princess."
"Don't call me that."
"You know it's true. Or did you think the people at that club were just going to invite you in with open arms? Once they learn you're the stone princess, they won't hesitate to kidnap you or worse."
"You're being dramatic. That won't happen."
"No. You're not seeing reality. You're meeting with criminals! None of them would bat an eye to hurt you. Don't you understand that? Don't you realize that if they were to kidnap you, they could hold you for ransom, a large one at that."
I wasn't not aware of this possibility. It was a fate I had been prepared for, ever since I was a little girl. Ever since my parents' ordeal with the Cobras, my security has always been tight-knit. As Rylee mentioned, to society I was the Stone Princess. To everyone else, they saw a life of luxury. But to me, it was a life sentence. I always found myself fighting for my independence. I hated being treated as though I was just a weak and defenceless girl. I wanted to be respected for the woman I was. But because of my condition, no one ever treated me like that. I was always the fragile person with a lung condition. But after tonight, that will all change.
"Fine. Whatever. What do you want me to do?" I ask, giving up. I know she has some valid points. Though I begin to wonder will this affect Ace's impression of me? Or will he be suspicious when I meet him looking completely different?
"Not much. I figured it would be best to keep it simple. Just a wig, some clothes, and a pair of contacts." She says, digging through her closet.
Instead of fighting her on it. I just accept whatever it is she plans on giving me. I'm running out of time, I have to meet Ace in just under thirty minutes.
Rylee helps me with the wig, changing my hair from my natural white-blond to a deep black. Rylee wears wigs all the time, so she knows how to secure the wig to my head without the risk of it falling off. She then handed me the contacts to put in. When I looked in the mirror, my eyes had changed from their blue hue to an amber one. Lastly, the clothes she had given me gave me more of a grunge vibe. They were different from the normal brand-name clothing I typically wore.
Once Rylee was satisfied with my new look I ran outside to my car and headed to the pub. I was nervous as Billie Bones pub was located on the dark side of the city. Crime was really high in that area. But this was something I really wanted to do. So in the meantime, I decided to put my big girl pants on and focused on getting there on time. I parked my car in an overnight parking garage not too far away, hoping for the best.
I walked down the back alleyway behind the pub and looked around to see if I could make out where Ace was. Only to realize he wasn't here yet. I checked my watch and saw that it was a couple of minutes to 7 PM, so I was still early. Perhaps he was on his way?
I heard a bang coming from down the dark alleyway followed by a crash and a cat screaming. I felt the hair on the back of my neck rise. I gripped the keys in my hand, planning on using them as a weapon should I need to.
I heard a shuffle come from behind me, only to run smack into a chest. I raised my hand in defence allowing my keys to poke out from my fingers in an attempt to puncture the person's throat. The person, however, seemed to have expected my move and grabbed my wrist before the metal of my keys could puncture his skin.
"Woah. Calm down firecracker. I'm not here to hurt you." The familiar voice remarks, making me drop my hand to notice it was none other than Ace standing before me.
"How did you know it was me?" I ask, fully aware that I didn't even look remotely similar from the first time I'd seen him.
"Lucky guess?" He replies, shrugging.
I raise my brows in distrust, knowing that wasn't the reason. I cross my arms over my chest, waiting for him to respond.
"You don't need to try to intimidate me. Last time I checked, that was my job." Ace comments stepping closer to me.
"How did you know it was me?" I ask again, not dropping my arms.
"Uh, have you looked around? This isn't exactly the place people willingly visit, especially this time at night. Sure you may have made some changes to your appearance, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out it was you waiting for me." He comments.
Ok. He kinda had a point.
"So what's with the look, anyways?" He asks, raising his hand to gesture toward me.
"Isn't the point of an underground fight club to be kept secret? So is it really that hard to believe that those in attendance would also like to remain anonymous?" I challenge.
"Touche." He remarks, tipping his head towards me, however, I take a step back away from him.
"So are we going or what?" I ask.
"Sure. But on one condition." He remarks unmoving.
"What?" I ask annoyed.
"Wow. You're not really a people person are you?" He comments.
"Nope." Is all I reply, making him roll his eyes.
"So what's the condition now?" I ask, changing topics.
"You need to be my date." He comments.
"What? No! We've been over this already." I state, frustrated.
"Well good luck getting in then. Cause only those on the list are able to enter. You know with it being a secret and all." He remarks sarcastically.
"Whatever. Fine. But don't consider this to be an actual date. I have a boyfriend." I lie. I don't have a boyfriend, but he doesn't need to know that.
"No, you don't." He remarks, surprising me.
"What? Of course, I do." I counter.
"No. You don't. Cause if you did have a boyfriend, he would be here with you right now. So tell me. Where's this fictional boyfriend of yours?" He asks, surprising me. I didn't take him as the intuitive type of person.
"So what? So I don't have a boyfriend. That doesn't mean I'm letting you anywhere near me." I counter.
"I wouldn't dream of it, Firecracker." He replies walking closer to me.
I find myself rendered speechless as he takes slow steps toward me, closing the distance between us.
"For the record. I won't make a move until you beg me to." He whispers in my ear.
"Wha-?" I mouth, barely able to get the word out of my mouth.
I feel his arm wrap around my waist pulling me into him. My eyes are drawn to his as he pulls me within an inch of his face. I feel myself frozen in place, anxiously awaiting his next move. My fingers grip tight to my keys ready to react should he come closer. However, before I have a chance to react, he spins me around as his arm remains on my lower back as he guides me deeper down the alley.
"You can put the keys away. If I was going to hurt you, I would've done it already." He remarks as he pulls me along with him. He walks over to a door and knocks on it three times.
"Brewster." Ace comments.
I look at him weirdly, only to hear a lock click, and soon the door in front of us opens.
"Who's the side piece?" A man states.
"My girl. What's it to ya?" Ace comments smoothly.
"She can't enter." The man states.
"I vouch for her." Ace comments, pulling me closer to him.
I decide to keep up the act and lean into Ace, smiling, knowing the man in front of us is skeptical.
"Boss won't be happy about this." The man remarks, however Ace simply shrugs as if it's no big deal.
"Tell him to talk to me then." Ace remarks, pushing past the man, and pulling me alongside him.
"Are you sure you want to do this? Will you get in trouble?" I ask, biting my lip. I hadn't thought of that. To be honest, I hadn't thought about much of this entire situation.
"Probably, but nothing I can't handle." Ace confidently replies, smirking at me.
"So are you going to tell me why you wanted to come here in the first place?" He asks.
"I'm more of a show than tell kind of person." I remark, stepping away from him to further explore. Only to be stopped in my tracks as he pulls me by my arm, back towards him.
"What are you up to, Firecracker?" He asks, leaning down to look into my eyes.
"I guess you're about to find out." I remark, twisting myself out of his hold to walk away from him. I study my surroundings, making sense of everything around me.
In the center of the room is a giant cage, and I can see two men going at it. I stare at it, studying their moves. They both appear to be amateurs, as they randomly throw around hits, in an attempt to connect. None of their movements are precise or practiced. This wouldn't do. I needed someone that knew what they were doing. Someone that could predict my movements. Someone that could challenge me. I scan the crowd to see any potential contestants. The two men from earlier have already left the stage and were replaced by two more men. These two looked a bit more promising. I stood in my spot watching the fights, analyzing them until I found my opponent.
One of the challengers reminded me a lot of the twins. He stood tall and looked well composed, while also bored. He must've also noticed the lack of training amongst the contestants, and seemed to be waiting for a worthy opponent, just like me. Once I had my eye on my target, I approached the entrance of the cage. A man was standing nearby taking bids.
"I want to fight him." I state matter-of-factly, nodding to the man that stood out to me.
The man in front of me stopped what he was doing to see where I was looking. When his eyes landed on the man, he turned his attention back to me.
"Are you sure? You really want to challenge the Reaper?" The man asks. However, from the moment I noticed him, I knew it had to be him. I don't know why. But something about him drew me to him.
"Yup. Is that a problem?" I ask.
"Your death wish." The man responds, making me raise a brow at him. Confident much? I guess I'll just have to show him whose death wish it was really going to be, and unfortunately for him, it wasn't mine.
"You're on next." The man responds. He waves to someone in the crowd, and before I know what's happening, the fight in the cage is immediately stopped. Everyone looks around in confusion, before turning their attention to the man before me. He grabs a microphone from the stand and steps away from me.
"Everyone, I hope you haven't fallen asleep from that pathetic fight, but I have something that may pique your interest." The man pauses for effect before continuing.
"We have a newcomer to the ring." The man shouted, and like that the crowd grew silent. Clearly, newcomers weren't common around here.
"Not only that. But our newcomer has requested a challenge." Once again the crowd grows silent as they wait to hear who was challenged. I can hear whispers around me as they try to figure out who was called out in the challenge.
I watch as Ace steps toward the man and whispers something in his ear. The man nods then continues.
"Our challenger, Firecracker, has requested to challenge none other than THE REAPER!" The man shouts, instantly silencing the crowd. The crowd had gone so silent that you could hear a pin drop. This was exactly the reaction I was looking for. Making me realize I chose the right person.
"Now the question we're all waiting for." The announcer continues."Reaper? Do you accept the challenge?" The announcer questions, as all eyes turn towards the man I saw in the crowd. Everyone seemed to know who he was, as no one even had to question where he stood. This man just had a presence around him. I found myself growing intrigued. I'd never met someone that was able to command a room from his presence alone. I seemed to be the only one in the room that didn't know who the reaper was. Not that I really cared. He may go by the name reaper, but after today he would have to change his name to weeper.I watched as his eyes turned away from the announcer to land on me. Did he know I was the one that challenged him? Impossible, right?"CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!" The man shouted. Winking in my direction. I bit my lip as I saw him remove his shirt. I had underestimated this man. He stepped into the cage wearing a simple pair of black track pants. I stepped into the cage and found myself ad
...Hunter POV...I was growing agitated. I didn't want to be here in the first place, but once I was informed that someone was stealing from me, I decided to deal with the issue personally. No one steals from the Reaper and gets away with it. I am one of the most feared men in the world. I was abandoned as a baby and was forced to fend for myself at an early age. I grew up in Soacha, Colombia. One of the most dangerous cities in the world. I came from nothing, and nothing was ever given to me. I always had to fight for what I wanted. I became ruthless as my compassion for others died out. My desire for power is what drove me to where I am today. I was a kid when I started working as a drug mule for the capo of Los Calaveras; also known as the Skulls. We were the most feared and ruthless mafia's in the world. As I grew up, I worked my way higher into Los Calaveras, until I managed to rule it all. I killed the previous leader, taking the spot for myself. In my reign, I have single-han
It was around six in the evening by the time I arrived to the fight club. I took a walk around, getting a feel for everything. As Javier had explained, everything checked out here. There wasn't any shady business I wasn't aware of. I was thankful for that. I wanted to speak to the owner and discuss further plans for the club. I asked around, however, Ace wasn't here yet. They advised he normally showed up later in the evening, typically around seven. So in the meantime, I decided to grab a beer or two as I watched the fights. I was actually surprised with how poor the fighters fought. They all appeared to be amateurs, but unpracticed ones at that. Their skills were lacking, to the point I found it rather boring. I would have to talk to Ace about finding better fighters. These guys were nothing but drunk men having a go at each other. I wanted the fight club to be better than this. If Ace couldn't find better fighters, I would shut the place down.I was barely paying attention to the
I take a step back when she successfully dodges my punch. I hadn't expected her to be able to do so. Granted, I hadn't given her my all. But still. I was expecting her to be knocked down. I stare at her, confused, before I throw a kick at her, anticipating hitting her in her abdomen, and push her to the ground. However, she caught me by surprise yet again as she jumped in the air, just as my leg swung up and grabbed it. Pulling me off balance and onto the mat below us. I hadn't expected her to move like that, but I didn't let it get to me. Instead, treat this fight like any other. Just because it's against Mariposa doesn't change a thing. I manage to spin us around so that I have her pinned below me. I lean in close as I pin her hands above her head. I shift my face so that's next to her ear. I whisper to her so that no one else can hear what I'm saying."You're fast, mariposa. But not quick enough. If you give up now, I'll let you walk." I let her know, giving her an out. I shift upw
I notice how she begins to look around, like a bird trying to escape its cage. I look at her in worry. Someone must've done something horrible for her to be picking a fight with me now. Why didn't I question her earlier? Why didn't I ask her why she wanted to fight me out of all people? I may have been able to save her from this pain and whatever others are doing to her. I could've prevented this.I decide to end this. Then I'll question her when there are fewer people around, watching our every move. I throw a punch, knowing she's not expecting it. My fist connects directly to her abdomen. If I were watching in slow motion, I would've seen her abdomen hollow from around my fist as she fell back to the ground. I knew exactly where to hit her so that I could put an end to this. From after the first hit, I realized her chest was the most vulnerable area. I didn't quite understand why. Normally, a person is most vulnerable in their knees, head, eyes, nose, and pelvic region. So why was s
...Sienna POV...I wake up groggy and confused. Where am I? What happened? My chest feels like I've been stabbed in the heart. My lungs are burning, and my head is pounding. I fall back in bed and close my eyes. Until my subconscious grows restless, wait a moment... bed? I don't remember going to sleep. Actually, to be honest, I don't really remember much of anything. My head feels like I'm trying to put a puzzle together. However, I'm missing critical pieces.I open my eyes, only to find the bright light to be blinding. I look around, but nothing seems familiar. I sit up in bed, only for my head to feel dizzy. I reach my hand up while I close my eyes, attempting to steady myself. I can feel the veins throughout my body as if they're on high alert. It feels like my veins are going to pop out of my body, gushing blood all over the place."Good. You're up, firecracker." A familiar voice calls out. I try to place it but I can't seem to remember it either. I open my eyes to see a tall man
...Rylee POV...I was going absolutely insane. It had been a few hours already since Sienna had left for the underground fight club. I had texted her a bunch of times, hoping to hear anything back. However, I didn't get a single response back from her, which only made my nerves increase. I had a bad feeling about all of this. But I didn't want to stop her from going. I knew there was no point in even trying. Once Sienna got her mind on something, it was impossible to stop her. She would do whatever it took to achieve her mission, even if it meant risking her life. Sienna's look on life is what always scared me the most about her. She never seemed to worry about whether she could be injured or killed. She did whatever she wanted without caring about the risks. I think part of it is related to our condition. While I'm thankful to be alive, Sienna sees it as a weakness. A weakness she wishes she could give away. She hates feeling vulnerable. In fact, just the sheer thought terrifies her
...Hunter POV...I had Javier drive us to my house. It was more of a temporary home, as I only ever used it when I came to the States, which wasn't that frequently. I spent most of my time in Soacha. Colombia has been my home for longer than I can even remember. The only reason I started coming to the States was because of Matías' younger brother. Tomás was nearly ten years younger than us. Over the years, Tomás had become like a brother to me as well. This bond truly developed after Matías had been killed. I promised to take care of Tomás, knowing that was what Matías would want. While Tomás may not actually be my biological brother, he's the closest thing I have to family. We both grew up on the streets. However, while I was an orphan, Tomás' parents were still alive. His father would beat him to an inch of his life, nearly killing him several times. When Tomás was only six years old, his father strangled him cutting off his airway until he passed out. His father had attacked him a
About an hour later, Silvio reenters the room, looking directly at me. Though the odd thing is he seems neither surprised nor upset to see the sudden disappearance of Ash and Hunter. Were they captured? Is that why? I wonder to myself. "Ah, good. I see we're right on schedule." Silvio comments, making me turn my head to look up at him. "Don't look at me like that. I know you're a smart girl. You don't actually believe that I would be as stupid as to confess my ultimate plan with you, then to let you escape?" Silvio asks, making me quirk a brow. I remained silent, unsure of what to say. I didn't understand what was happening. I could feel my mind working to figure out what I had missed. "I told you what I wanted you to know." Silvio comments, making my eyes go wide. A thought suddenly comes to mind. Silvio had gone into detail about his plan and then left us unattended. He wanted us to escape, which could only mean one thing. Hunter and Ash's freedom was nothing but a delusion. Si
“Mariposa.” Hunter comments, making my desire for him increase. It’s been so long since Hunter last called me that. He used to only ever call me that. But with everything happening lately, he switched to calling me by my name. I couldn’t even be mad either, as I would’ve done the same thing if I were in his shoes. He tried desperately to give me the benefit of the doubt, regardless of how much incriminating evidence there was. So to hear Hunter calling me his Mariposa once more makes me far happier than I could imagine.Without realizing it, I had closed the distance between us. My lips found Hunter’s with no abandon. Time seems to freeze as we deepen the kiss. So many unspoken conversations are taking place in unison with this kiss. I can feel all of Hunter’s emotions. His desires, his anguish, but most importantly, his love. I can feel his uneasiness when it comes to my plan. As well as the dread he feels knowing that this may be our only chance. While he may have put up a fight abo
The more time I spent in this room, the more familiar it was becoming. I just couldn’t place how. I’ve never been here before. So why does it look so familiar? I looked around the room, trying to pinpoint what it was about this room that looked so familiar. Which is when one thing caught my eye. The chair Hunter is sitting on is the same chair Ash was sitting on in the video that Silvio and Kevin had shown me earlier, which could only mean one thing. Silvio’s taken us to where Ash was tortured. This could end up being a good thing. Silvio hasn’t said a word about Ash which probably means that Ash is still alive. If Ash were dead, Silvio wouldn’t hesitate to let me know. So the fact that Silvio has remained quiet about Ash’s presence means that Ash is very much alive and could be our way out. I’ll just need to make yet another distraction. This one, however, will have to provide us with a lot more time. I’ll need to figure out how to get Hunter out of here. I already have an idea in m
…Sienna POV…This was beginning to feel like a pattern. Being knocked unconscious and waking up somewhere else. Though this time, I couldn’t figure out where I was. All the other times, I had known that Hunter was behind it, and I was at his estate. But now? I couldn’t say the same. For whatever reason, something felt off about this. I don’t know why, but it was as though I could tell that I was no longer in Colombia. Which made me question how long I have been out.Shouts of anger and aggression can be heard from somewhere in the distance. My head is slightly dizzy, and I feel partially lightheaded. However, I know I need to figure out what’s going on. I see a stream of light coming from the far side of the room. I take a quick look around to get a better feel of what I’m dealing with. To see if there’s anything nearby that I could use as a weapon. After scanning the room as much as I can, I can’t seem to find anything that would make a decent enough weapon, so instead, I focus on
...Hunter POV...I paced the floor of the hospital for what felt like hours. I had yet to see or hear from any of the medical personnel that were helping Tomás. I couldn't deny that not knowing almost seemed worse than what the final outcome would be. Every bloody scenario rang through my mind. Will Tomás make it out alive? If he does, what will happen to him? If he doesn't, am I prepared to live without him? While I may not exactly know the answer to that final question, I do know for sure that if Tomás does die, then I'm beyond prepared to burn everything around me. There's nothing that won't face my wrath. The memory of seeing Sienna standing over Tomás lifeless body will forever haunt my mind. I couldn't believe I'd been so reckless. I had singlehandedly brought the traitor into my house. I had given up my weak point to the one person I thought I could trust. To this day, I don't even know why I did that. It was as if just being near her made me feel, for the first time ever, th
....Sienna POV...The moment I saw Kevin, I knew he was here for one purpose and one purpose only. To kill me. Now that I had executed the last part of his plan, he no longer needed me alive. As they say, dead men tell no tales. So with my death, Hunter would be forced to believe what Kevin has continually fed him. I tried to move my arms and legs when I realized that they were immobile, and it wasn't just because I was once again strapped to the ceiling. Rather, my entire range of motion was gone, which made me realize that Kevin must've administered some sort of temporary paralytic. Well, I hope that it was only temporary. Otherwise, I'll be in far more trouble than I'm already in.I knew Kevin would want me to beg for my life. But I wouldn't allow myself to do that. No amount of begging would save me anyways. I just had to hope that Hunter got here soon. While there was a strong chance that Hunter would kill me, my only chance of survival relied on Hunter giving me a chance to ex
...Kevin POV...When I saw Silvio slowly crawl his way out of the dungeon, I knew for a fact that my plan was right on schedule. From the state of Silvio, I could see that Sienna happily took the bait. She must be on her way to save Tomás as we speak. The house was in an utter frenzy. From the moment Hunter opened the door to reveal a panicked Sienna, chaos erupted. Hunter started shouting commands at anyone within earshot. He attempted to get to Sienna. However, she managed to evade him. I had to hand it to her; I didn't think she'd have it in her to be able to fight back to the extent that she was. I thought for sure that her body would be too drained from the torture that Silvio had been dishing out to her for nearly a week now. It took everything inside of me to hide the smile that continually threatened to escape the more I watched from the side. Hunter was chasing Sienna out of the house toward his car. I couldn't lie; even the fact that she was able to think so quickly on her
...Hunter's POV...Javier's question had thrown me off guard. Why was Silvio in the dungeon with her? Since meeting with her, I had relieved Silvio from his torture duties. I didn't want anyone down there with her, other than Javier and myself until I had decided on what to do with her. I had reassigned Silvio to look after Tomás. It was his original assignment before Sienna arrived, so it only made sense to put him back on that task. I wanted to make sure Tomás was safe. He was vulnerable enough as it was. I didn't want to exploit that fact.No one was as stunned as I was when I opened the door to see a panicked-looking Sienna on the other side of the door. My mind was flooded with questions. Why was Sienna there? Why wasn't she tied up? How did she escape? What happened with Silvio? Did he let her escape? Before I could get an answer to any of those questions, a bloodied Silvio stumbles down the hallway behind her, taking my attention off her momentarily and providing her with the
...Javier POV...Hunter had requested that I personally see to Sienna's well-being and inform him of any changes. I could tell he still cared for her, regardless of what happened down there. It was as though he was pretending to be cruel to her to keep up a facade. Which made me wonder why? Did Kevin have a much larger hold on Hunter than I had assumed? Whatever the reason was, I knew to keep any findings to myself and Hunter. If Hunter wasn't able to trust anyone else, then neither would I.I was heading toward Hunter's office when I saw Silvio turn down the hallway to the basement. I was about to meet with Hunter, so I didn't have time to investigate further. However, his presence in that hallway had my nerves on edge. I don't know why, but something just felt wrong. Once I had finished the meeting with Hunter and the others had left the office, I closed his door and talked to him about my concerns."Hunter?" I called, using his first name instead of his title.Hunter immediately s
