142. Outside Looking In

The next morning I brought her breakfast to the room.

I made some toast and threw fruit, cheese and a couple glasses of orange juice on a tray and carried it back to the bedroom to find Cara standing at the window looking out at the trees in the dawn light.

There were no lights on—neither of us needed them even when it was dark—so her small form was silhouetted at the window, but glowing at the edges from the pink light outside.

She stood there in one of my robes that hung in the closet here. It was too big for her so she’d rolled up the sleeves. Her hair was messy, and when she turned her head, her lips were swollen from my kisses.

She took my breath away.
