|| ELINDA's POV ||
" Don't worry the paparazzi is here. This place is secured."
I cracked a weak smile on my blind date, Edward Jones. He was next in the line to become the Alpha of the second-largest pack in this town. My birthday party was a disaster for me. All the while I had to tolerate the heated eyes of my ex-mate. Coming to this blind date would hopefully help me out.
Edward looked nervous as he replied, grabbing the wine awkwardly,
" No. I am just nervous..in front of the Royal Princess."
Fuck! Can someone please stop me from reminding me of that?
Nobody dared to approach me before because of my Royal status. Even my blind dates were terrified whenever they found my identity. I didn't want to date someone introduced by my family. They always preferred social status over everything. After breaking my heart, I had only one wish in my life. To find someone who truly loved me!
I avoided Leonid throughout the party. He seemed okay with my behavior. My brother was the only best thing that ever happened on my birthday. I cleared my throat to start the conversation, looking up at Edward who couldn't look into my eyes,
" So...tell me more about yourself, Edward."
He finally smiled, getting comfortable with me,
" Honestly, I hate pack life. I thought of running away many times."
I let out a chuckle, sipping from my wine,
" Me too, but sadly, I have nowhere to go."
Wrong I had!
My adoptive parents told me before sending me away that I would always have a home there. I just didn't want to push them into trouble anymore. The Vasiliev Dynasty had two shades. The green one was for the Public but the dark one was for the people that disobeyed them. I learned how to be a mute over the years.
We chatted longer than expected. To my surprise, Edward turned out to be the person who wanted to be free from this caged life. But we both knew that our responsibilities came first. I would have continued my chat until a phone call flashed on my screen. I narrowed my eyes to see my brother calling. He knew that I was on a date and he would never disturb me in my private time.
I answered with a tight smile, scared to hear his anxious voice,
" Hello, brother. What.. what happened?"
Alberto sounded fuming as he replied to me, the sound of his pacing across the room echoing through the speaker,
" ELINDA! Don't ask anything! Just get out of the restaurant once my car goes there."
I looked around suspiciously. It was a closed property and I didn't think that anyone would be following me here. For this reason, I didn't bring too many guards with me. I opened my mouth to ask something but the call ended, leaving me with countless questions.

|| ALEXIS KOZLOV's POV ||
That smile...
That damn smile...
I watched her through the glass walls. I haven't gotten out of the car since she hated me and probably wouldn't ride with me. Her blind date with a man shouldn't have bothered me. It was just a bet with her. Although we became mates, nothing changed my mind.
She was too naive, and easily fooled back then. Instead of getting expensive gifts, she was content with Roses or pearls. Now that I lost her forever, why did it hurt like hell? Why did it kill me to see her smiling for another man? Shouldn't I be happy too?
She came out of the restaurant, holding the man's hand. Some violent fury snapped inside me quickly. Before I could stop myself, I got out of the car and waited in front of it. Her eyes locked with mine and her smile vanished. She pretended to concentrate on the guy but I knew that she had all her attention on me.
That punk leaned onto her and left a peck on her lips, taking me by surprise. My lycan growled inside me violently, itching for some fresh blood. I crossed them in a while and was reminded coldly, that guy looked scared to see me,
" The Princess shouldn't be intimate in an open place. There are eyes everywhere for her. Don't you know this, Young Man?"
The guy looked terrified before Elinda mediated, flashing him a big smile,
" He doesn't know. You may go ahead, Edward. We will meet next time."
The fuck she will!
She turned to me grimly, staring at her brother's car,
" Where are the Royal Guards? Why is it you?"
I replied with a low grin, raking my eyes on her hot body,
" To babysit. I can't deny my best friend's request. Otherwise driving isn't my favorite job."
Elinda replied, pressing her lips together,
" Killing maybe..your favorite job?"
I shot her with a dark look. She had learned about me already. It gave me some mental peace before I offered, to open the door,
" Hop in, Princess. You aren't supposed to be outside now."
Elinda replied with a scoff, crossing her arms together,
" I would rather die than ride with you. Call my guards. I will wait for them."
Her stubbornness took me by surprise. She was always a calm and understanding girl. I was supposed to play with her longer but I couldn't take her for granted for her innocence. I clenched my jaw hard, pulling my phone out,
" Right! I should tell your brother that you prefer to ride my face than my car."
Her jaw dropped speechlessly. Without a word, she stormed into the car, clicking the door lock with a bang. I held back a grin before following her into the car. Her personality has changed a lot over the years. But she was still the same girl who gave me a hard-on and made the Mafia leader her chauffeur.
At this point, I wanted to question myself. Did I regret breaking her heart?
|| ALEXIS's POV ||" You shouldn't be out there with some guy, Princess!"I grumbled, closing the door with a bang. She was startled by the sound but remained seated. Her expression said though it was better to be killed than riding with me in the same car. Elinda replied with a scoff, staring at the street ahead," You aren't my guardian. Stop acting like one."My jaw clenched tight in anger. I would have never come if her brother didn't request me. I owed Albert too much. If I knew about her real identity, I wouldn't have screwed her anyways. I replied patiently, gripping the steering wheel," I am saying for your own good. You could have been photographed by the papparazi."The words didn't settle right into her ears. She turned black before spurting with mockery," At least it's better to be photographed with a Commoner than a monster in disguise?"It took all the strength away from me. My veins turned white in anger. Before I could know, I had grasped her by her head, pulling her
|| ELINDA'S POV ||" I AM NOT LEAVING YOU, ALBERT! NO FUCKING WAY!"I couldn't believe my own ears. Albert had decided to send me away for a few months. He refused to explain why it was necessary for me to hide.Alexis and Albert had been talking secretly ever since Alexis brought me here. He had managed to escape the group that was aiming bullets at us. I was pretty sure that it was all because of Alexis. Albert was never a man who attracted troubles or had any dark business like Alexis. I just couldn't understand how they became friends.Albert spoke in a firm voice, looking at me stressfully," You..Listen to me, Elinda. Whatever I am doing, it's for your own good. Trust me, no one in the family cares for you more than me. Be a good girl and join me in the family dinner tomorrow."I opened my mouth to say something but Alexis cut off between, shooting me a longing look," I hope, you remember the gunshots, Princess."A chill went down to my spine at the mention of gunshots. I decid
|| ALEXIS's POV ||" Give me the name, Hector!"I spilled it out threateningly, holding the shovel close to me. Hector refused to answer, his eyes sliding between me and the shovel. He understood that I wasn't kidding with him anymore. Hector muttered, his eyes darkening with fear slowly," It's.. just me..no one else..I wanted to kidnap the princess.. that's it..."He was lying again. The mastermind might have held something against him. But I had no mercy over the man who tried to hurt Elinda. Rejected mate or not, I was fucking possessive over that girl. I replied with a smirk, pulling out the gun from my waist," It looks like I am wasting my time."Hector finally looked terrified. He kept shaking his head nervously, trying to stop me," No..no.. listen to me, Don. You can't do this. No!!!"I ignored his pleading, commanding with a low growl," SHIFT!! I SAID SHIFT, HECTOR!"At first, he wasn't complying. When I placed my finger on the trigger, he began to shift into his ash-furre
|| ELINDA'S POV || " That's better..."" After changing ten times?"Alexis sneered at me hatefully. He knew that it was my other way to show my distress and hatred for him. I accepted the decision made by my brother. He arranged to live with Alexis except for the fact that Alexis's betrayal crossed my mind again and again whenever I saw his face.I scoffed back, leaning against the door frame," You said that I can get whatever I want."Alexis's eyes hardened on me but his men changed my curtains for the last time. A victorious smirk played on my lips to notice how annoyed he was. I wanted to bore no good wishes for him. A man like him deserved more than my hatred.Alexis dismissed the crowd before I could finish my words, his glare setting on me this time," Wait...I still need one more pair...."My words were stuck as soon as he crossed the room and gripped my jaw. Pain shot through my bones as he emphasized each one of his words," Listen to me, Princess. We have left our fucking
|| ELINDA's POV ||It was insane how easily people could judge you. Matteo's indirect insult at me only made me angrier. Fiona stretched her hands out to drag me outside. One sharp glare from my eyes, her wolf shuddered, taking a step back to show submission.Matteo shot me another glare but he couldn't meet my eyes anymore. When a Royal took charge, average wolves couldn't stand the dominant power in front of her. I spat firmly, taking a step forward to the boy," Stay back. I can fix him. If I fail, you are allowed to insult me."Matteo retorted weakly, staying a few steps away since he couldn't enter inside my dominance wave," You... don't.. you will kill him."I ignored his words and opened up my mouth to bite on my wrist. Blood leaked out of it, sliding it down to my skin. I held it down on the lips of the dying boy. Fiona grumbled impatiently," What are you doing, witch? You will kill him."I ignored her unnecessary banter. Moments afterward, the boy started coughing violently
|| ELINDA'S POV ||" Yeah! Everything is fine here. Just tell me..how long will I have to stay here?" I asked my brother on the phone, feeling suffocated to live in this mansion where I couldn't go out. I felt ashamed for offering myself to him so easily. It was just a matter of time that I lost control of myself.Alberto assured me, his tone sounded hurried," Soon, dear sister. You are in good hands. Just enjoy your vacation."Fuck the vacation! It was more suitable to live in the street than my rejected mate!Alberto didn't extend the conversation anymore. He cut off our words and hung up. I released a heavy sigh and walked near the big window. A black car had just entered the field at a remarkable speed. Matteo and his other team members dragged a woman out. The face of that woman was swollen. It seemed like she was being abused before dragging her here.I spotted Leonid in his kingly position. He was surrounded by men as the woman was presented in front of him.Did he want to ki
|| ELINDA's POV ||" What...are you doing?"I muttered nervously, the knife in her hand glittering dangerously under the bright light. The woman said nothing and then charged at me. She held the knife under my throat before laughing into my ears," I didn't think that it would be easy to fool the princess. Tsk...now call your fucking brother and tell him to accept me as his princess."My thoughts went blank at the mention of my brother. What did she do with my brother? What the hell was happening?I swallowed hard under the threat of her knife. Then I remembered once my brother said to me that my goodness would be my doom one day. At that moment, I hated myself more than anyone. I muttered a reply, waiting for someone to show up," He ...is busy these days..He won't probably pick up..my phone..."The woman sneered into my ears, pressing the knife harder into my skin," You fucking woman! He is never busy with his sister. CALL HIM! LET ME SPEAK!"" PRINCESS!!"The sound of a deep metal
|| ELINDA'S POV ||" Matteo, where's your Don?"I asked the cold-faced guy who hated me for no reason. Matteo shot a glare at me, his eyes holding curiosity. I couldn't fall asleep after what Alexis had faced today because of me. Perhaps it was so normal for them but I couldn't stop the self-blaming.Matteo sneered at me, his eyes narrowing," Why? So that you can cause some trouble freely?"I scoffed at him, intending to find it by myself," Says someone whose work is killing."I saw Fiona at a distance. She was coming out of the study with a dark face. I instantly knew where Alexis was as Fiona hated to keep her ass away from Alexis. I walked in that direction without asking anymore. The door was already opened. It took one gentle push to enter. I was scared to make any noise since I knew that Alexis was angry with me.My eyes darted around to find him but he was nowhere to be seen. Before I could take another step forward, a growling voice stopped me," I can smell you, woman."I l
Chapter 61|| ELINDA'S POV ||I sat stiffly on the silk-covered bench within the ceremonial hall, my clammy hands hidden by the silk gloves. My heart thundered like the rhythm of a man sentenced to death awaiting judgment. The runes against the walls glowed softly as an echo of the divine energy called upon by the priest. Alaric stood beside me, calm and composed as ever, but I could feel tension beneath his skin. He was trying to be patient. Trying to be kind.Alberto stood in front of me, arms folded, eyebrows furrowed in frustration and concern. He had yanked me out the moment the priest had questioned me beforehand."Who was your partner?" he asked again, this time more gently but no less urgently.I avoided his gaze. "It doesn't matter anymore. It happened a long time ago. It's over.""Elinda," he said, and I hated the disappointment in his voice. "Done or not? You're hiding something from me. What are you keeping secret?"I clenched my fists together in my hand. "I'm not keeping
Chapter 60|| ALEXIS'S POV ||The moment I stepped off the boat, something was off. The salty air that usually soothed me now had a bitter edge—fear. And my wolves, the ones who stood at the gate to welcome me, were not there. No guards. No howls. Silence. Too much silence. We always tamed the wild wolves to strengthen our power. In this Mafia world, people who had more wild wolves, they were regarded more powerful. Only my pack had the power to control wild wolves from our bloodline.Marcus sprinted down the path from the main house, his face pale, his steps hurried. "Alpha, it's bad."My jaw tightened. "Tell me.""They're gone. All of them. The wild wolves… the ones we had caged."Impossible!!!No one had the power to control them. How could they be gone?I didn't believe him—at first. Not because I thought he was lying, but because it should've been impossible. We had set those cages with iron-laced steel and runes from the oldest blood witches. Even a seasoned rogue couldn't get
Chapter 59|| Elinda's POV ||I didn't sleep. Not after what Alexis's grandfather had said. His words lingered in my mind, echoing in my mind like a constant curse I couldn't escape. " Act like a guest and don't interfere in our business ." Those simple words had shattered all that hope I'd been hiding inside.I thought. Foolishly thought that perhaps, just perhaps, Alexis and I were reunited for something greater. Something greater than politics and royal bloodline. But now I know how mistaken I have been.I sat on the edge of my bed, looking out at the ocean from the glass balcony. The moonlight caressed the waves softly, taunting the tempest within me. My heart hurt, but I knew what I must do.I clutched my phone and phoned Alberto."Princess?" His voice came back right away, tinged with concern."I want to go to the mate-matching thing," I said, attempting to sound calm. There was a pause. "Are you sure?""Yes."He did not question me about it. "I will make it happen."And with th
Chapter 58|| ELINDA'S POV ||The night air was thick with secrets and salt, whispers from the disturbed sea that surrounded the island. I was near the edge of the cliff, my eyes taking in movement below.I couldn't fall asleep with Liam's shadow following me always. One hand, I felt guilty for attracting Liam to me. Perhaps I should have just stayed home like other royal girls. I shouldn't have wanted a life like a pride woman. Moonlight spilled over the scene, creating shadows of wolves—wild ones. At least a dozen of them, their fur matted, their eyes dulled with fear and confusion. They weren't wild. No. They were caged. My heart ached at the sight. What were they doing here? This was no good place for them. The fencing was thick with iron and rune carvings, designed to suppress attack and magic. These were not visitors. They were prisoners.A bitter taste welled up in my mouth.Alexis had sworn to protect his own kind. But now I wondered if he was any better than the rest. Was th
|| ALEXIS'S POV || Cold wind stung my face as I sprinted through the woods, shifting from human to wolf with ease, searching for the faintest clue. But Liam was nowhere to be found. I snarled low, walking through thick fog, my breathings puffing out in hot, angry puffs. There was no scent trail, no broken twig, no sound to follow. Liam was more than a hybrid; he was trained. Hunter. And worst of all—unpredictable. Alberto emerged from behind me, his own calm demeanor shattered by worry. "Still nothing?" I shook my head. "He's vanished. Not even a damn leaf was out of place." "Impossible," Alberto muttered, running his hand through his hair. "He attacked a royal member. He left bodies in all mess. How is he just supposed to vanish?" I clenched my fists. "Because he's not a monster. He's a hybrid, worse than a monster. One is taught to disappear, to become nonexistent." Alberto's face fell into a frown, grim. "So we need questions answered by someone who knows hybrids better than
Chapter 56|| ALEXIS'S POV ||The evening air in the distant woods was thick with quiet, broken only by the whispering trees looming above me.I had not been here in years. The woods were alive with memories—some precious, some haunted. The elders waited. My only remaining blood relatives—my grandfather and his three uncles—were fierce werewolves, men who had seen centuries and the collapse of empires. Their home, built of old stone and wood, was secreted in a clearing like a forgotten secret only time remembered. After loosing my family, they were the only family that I had left. Honestly, I hated this meeting because they seemed to put all hopes on me. I felt like a burden sometimes. The scent of seared meat and herbs drifted into my nose long before I stepped inside. Even if this was a serious meeting, the elders still had their ways. Supper first. Question later. I could feel that something was going on their minds. The worse part was that I couldn't hear their thoughts like others
Chapter 55|| ELINDA's POV ||The following morning, the sun crept in through the window, casting golden streaks on the wooden cottage floor. I had not slept much, my mind still weighed down by everything that had happened in the North. The argument with Alberto, the slap, Alexis's declaration that I was his—it all lingered in my mind like a haunted melody that would not fade. I had not seen Alexis since we got back to the island. He'd retreated to his study, as he typically did following angry shouting matches. I didn't push.A tap at the door startled me. My heart skipped a beat as I called out, "Yes?"The door opened and one of the guards stood before me. "Lady Elinda, your brother Alberto has come."Alberto? My heart skipped a beat, and I stood up hastily, smoothing my dress and dabbing at my reflection. I had not seen him in what seemed like forever. For all that, Alberto was a breath of peace—one of the few people who made me feel loved.I rushed to the principal lounge, where
Chapter 54|| ALEXIS'S POV ||I said nothing to Elinda. Not where I was going, not why I'd left early this morning, and of course not about the hole that had been in my stomach ever since the call. The moment Alpha Killian made the suggestion that something was not entirely normal with her foster father's death, I knew I needed to witness it myself.Ireland was colder than I remembered. Not in weather, but in mood. The skies were clouded, and the wind moaned as if lamenting something painful. When I came to the house—Elinda's childhood home—I halted at the gate, my boots crunching over pebbles. It looked normal at first glance, too normal. That alone was unnerving.Killian met me at the porch. He had already secured the place, making sure the rest of the pack members remaining in Ireland wouldn't interfere with us. I nodded in gratitude and went in.I breathed deeply. The air would have been filled with smells—blood, fear, anger, something. But nothing. Nothing at all."This doesn't m
Chapter 53|| ELINDA'S POV ||The moonlight inched its way through the window, casting long silver shadows across the wood floor. I was in my bed, trying to rock myself to sleep, but something felt off. Just as I was drifting off into a light sleep, my phone buzzed violently on the nightstand.I responded groggily, taken aback to see my foster father's number on the screen. A warm sense of familiarity comforted me, and then fear. Why would he be calling me at this hour? "Dad?" I replied, sitting up.He had been too lonely after loosing my mother, his soulmate. I felt sorry to leave him alone but I knew that I would only bring danger for him. There was no voice. What I heard instead were muffled noises, furniture being pushed around, feet shuffling frantically, and… shouting."Dad? Dad, are you there?" I said again, this time louder. And then I heard it.A blood-curdling scream. Followed by the recognizable thud of something hitting flesh. Over and over.My heart dropped. I tightened
