"Heh....if it isn't Squad 10," a voice scoffed.
They all looked in the direction of the voice.
They saw Luke approaching with his Squad mates some distance behind him.
"Hey Luke!" Suzanne waved gaily at him. He had on a pompous look as he addressed Ryan and ignored Suzanne.
"Pity you didn't stay long enough in the E-rank exams; you'd have witnessed me being victorious," he smirked, as he eyed them all in derision. His focused attention settled disdainfully on Ryan. "Anyway, it's a good thing you were rushed to the hospital, everyone saw how weak you were. I bet if it was me, I could witstand a bullet or two." Luke bragged as he poured his mouth at Ryan dismissively.
Ryan just gave him a cold look, then ignored him.
"There's Luke, bragging away as usual," Ava snorted as they arrived at the spot where Squad 10 was.
"How's your arm Ryan?" Snow asked, as she looked at Ryan and smiled briefly at him.
"It's fine," he replied coldly and turned away.
"You must be the M.D corp assigned to Squad 10. I'm Janet," Janet introduced herself as she warmly shook hands with Ashley.
"Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Ashley," Ashley said, beaming a smile at her.
"Cut the chit chat; we came here to train, not socialize," a girl with straight black hair said in a stern tone to her Squad mates and she walked away to where the training equipment were kept.
"Hmph," Luke scoffed as he crossed his arms. "She thinks she's something special."
"Oh dear, you must'n't say that. All humans are special in their own way," Ashley said in a calm tone.
"Stop proving smart, girl!" Luke told her in a sneering tone. "Man, I hate being stuck with girls," he muttered to himself.
"Who's she?" Ethan asked Ava who was chewing a gum, as he watched Snow walk towards the stern girl.
"Oh she?" Ava looked towards the direction they had gone.
"That's Judith; she's our M.D corp," Ava revealed.
"She's so....," Suzanne searched for the right word.
"Beautiful?" Ashley offered, smiling again.
"Not that," Suzanne shook her head. "It's just that she's--"
"She's stuck up, that's what!" Luke said and snorted.
"Yeah, kinda," Ethan agreed, nodding as he looked at Judith where she was already trying out some equipment.
"It's best not to judge people if you know nothing of them," Ashley said coolly, her eyes already reprimanding them all.
Ethan sheepishly scratched his hair, "I didn't mean to judge her."
"Best we go train; you can't stay here all day gossiping about others," Ryan said curtly as he made to leave their little gathering.
"Gos...Gossiping! Me, gossiping?! How dare you accuse me of gossiping?!" Ethan snapped at him, annoyed.
"We're leaving," Andrew said in a bored tone and started to walk away, intent on leaving the training ground.
"Bye," Janet waved at them.
"Waving is for suckers," Luke said spitefully. She faced him with a composed look.
"That's just your idiotic opinion, Luke, because according to my research, when two people wave at each other, it means their relationship has a better chance of developing than others; also research has proven that those who greet each other 'bye' have more tendecy to meet up again to say 'hello'," she told him categorically.
"Shut up, you nerd!" Luke said as he held his ears.
"That's why girls are better than boys," Ava laughed as she threw her hands around Janet and they made their way to where Snow and Judith were.
"That's not true!" Luke protested.
As Squad 10 left the training ground, Luke and Ava's voices could still be heard arguing loudly on which gender was better.
"Fancy seeing them again," Suzanne said as they walked into the training hall for their duels.
"Yeah, I'm somehow glad Judith wasn't assigned to us," Ethan sighed in relief.
Ryan scoffed.
"Me too. We have enough stiff necked people in our team," Suzanne agreed.
"Yeah, like Ryan," Ethan said.
Suzanne nodded. "Yeah, and Andrew."
Ryan faced Suzanne as he demanded, "Did you just refer to me as stiff necked?"
Her eyes widened in shock. "Um....not really," she shook her head negatively.
"Whatever," he dismissed her with a wave of his hand. "It's not like I care what you think."
She looked away, troubled.
"Okay, partner up," Andrew told them as he tossed each of them a long training stick. Ethan caught his and grinned mischieviously.
"I'm with Ryan!" he annouced.
"No! I'm with Ryan!" Suzanne argued.
They both faced each other. "What do you want to pair off with him for? You'll just act all weak and mushy and he'll defeat you easily. But if I face Ryan I'll make sure I prove I'm the better between both of us by defeating him in our match!" Ethan explained impatiently.
"No way! I want Ryan to see that I'm strong too!" Suzanne replied just as impatiently as he too. "Afterall, I've been training since last year: I'm not so inexperienced anymore!"
Ethan crossed his arms. "Yeah right, and I've been training since I was four years! I want to prove that I'm stronger than Ryan once and for all!"
"Let's start then," Andrew stated as he nodded at them all.
"Hey! We haven't paired up yet!" Ethan told him angrily.
Ryan smirked and Ashley rotated her stick.
"I'm with Ashley. You two donkeys can pair off together," he said in a malicious tone and waved his hand at them derisively.
Ashley pinched him. "Be nice," she said and he turned away scornfully.
"I'll show you who's a donkey!" Ethan snarled as he started running towards Ryan with his staff weapon.
Ryan dodged the attack by simply moving his head and he turned and kicked Ethan from behind, and sent him sprawling onto the floor.
Ryan smirked.
Ethan growled at him as he sat up on the polished wooden floor.
"Is that how you planned to win Ethan?" Suzanne couldn't help making fun of him.
"Shut up!" Ethan spat out angrily as he glared at her. "I wasn't ready!"
"Alright, that's enough fooling around. Ethan, you're with Suzanne," Andrew told him in a bored tone.
"What?!" he exclaimed, looking around him angrily..
Suzanne, who was pulling him up at the time, suddenly let go of his hand and he landed on the floor once again.
"Hey!" he complained as he looked up at Suzanne.
"I want to be with Ryan!" Suzanne protested, looking at Andrew.
Andrew silenced her protests with the hard look he threw at her.
"This is all your fault!" Suzanne scowled at Ethan as he came to stand beside her. He scowled back and crossed his arms on his chest.
"Hmph, it's not like I wanted to be paired off with you! And now, I've lost the chance to prove I'm superior to Ryan," he said in an annoyed murmur.
"Ashley and Ryan, you may begin first," Andrew said.
Ryan got into his fighting stance but Ashley's gaze lingered on Andrew.
"Aren't you pairing off with anyone?" she asked, a bit concerned.
He shrugged her off.
"The winners of both teams will face each other off and then I'll battle the one left standing," he told her simply.
"Okay, that seems sensible enough." Ashley nodded and skipped to the postion where she ought to stand.
"Don't take it personally if I defeat you too hard Ashley, this is just a forewarning," Ryan said in a not-so-kind tone as she took her stance.
"Okay!" she nodded and smiled sweetly at him.
"Begin," Andrew said in between a stiffled yawn.
Ryan and Ashley stopped for a while before running towards each other, their training staffs raised up.
Ashley slid down as Ryan's staff narrowedly missed hitting her head and Ryan jumped to avoid Ashley's staff that aimed to trip him up.
They both attacked again and their staffs struck each other's.
Ryan kept pressure on his stick in order to weigh Ashley down but she turned and jabbed at his ribs. The action made him bend a little as one of his hands held the part she hit.
"In battle that's your weak point," Ashley said as he gritted his teeth painfully. When Ryan looked up he saw her coming swiftly at him with her staff being waved around dangerously.
He did an octuple somersault and landed on his feet to avoid her incoming attack.
"So annoying," Ryan scoffed under his breath as both of their staffs hit each other again.
Ashley let go of her staff and proceeded to kick Ryan but he caught her leg just in time before it landed on his chest.
He scoffed at her again. "Too slow."
At once he spinned, while holding her leg and flung her away.
She hit her head hard on the ground as she landed and groaned out in pain.
Ryan smirked and started walking triumphantly towards her.
He raised his staff and brought it down near her neck.
"I win," he said smugly as he stared down at her.
Ashley grinned and looked up at him. "You're sure about that?"
Ryan frowned as he gave her a quick perusal, not comprehending; her staff, which served as a weapon, wasn't with her currently as it laid where she had dropped it some distance from where she now laid.
"Think again!"
At once she snatched the staff out of the unsuspecting Ryan's hands and slid under his open legs.
"Huh?!" A stunned Ryan turned in time to see Ashley running to where she had dropped her own staff.
He pursued her hotly.
Andrew's lip partly quirked up. She was smart. Ethan laughed and cheered Ashley on while Suzanne kept screaming Ryan's name.
Ashley now had possesions of both their weapons.
"First rule of battle, Disarm your opponent," she told him at once and rushed towards him.
Ryan gritted his teeth but stood his ground.
"Second rule...," She spinned a staff and let it loose. Ryan dodged it just in time as it made for him.
"...Deceive them!" Ashley burst out from right in front of him in a jump and landed the other staff she held on his head, causing him to wince and stagger backwards.
"Third rule...," She started running towards where Ryan stood, holding his head.
Ashley didn't stop for a moment's breath.
She aimed a punch at Ryan but he caught it and she used the position she was in to kick him with her knee in his groin.
".....Destroy them!" she said as she knocked him off his steady footing. He was bent over, groaning in pain.
Ethan closed an eye when Ashley kneed Ryan in the groin and whispered, "Ooh....that's gotta hurt."
Suzanne only gasped mildly, shocked at Ashley's brutality.
"Last rule of battle...," Ashley elbowed Ryan's back and he fell, face down. She pointed her staff at the writhing Ryan's neck. He was still holding his jewels in pain. His eyes were tightly shut.
"...Defeat them!" Ashley said with a note of finality.
Andrew came to raise her hand and proclaimed her the winner. Ethan came to congratulate her while Suzanne chidded her on her need to have gone easier on Ryan.
Ashley didn't pay much attention to any of them, instead she brought out a mini-first aid kit.
She brought out a balm.
"I didn't mean to hit you so hard, Ryan. Here, apply this cream and it would help ease the pain," she said in a soft, worried tone.
Ryan managed to stretch out his left hand to collect the balm.
"Can you stand up?" Ethan asked with a bit of pity.
He was glad he wasn't paired off with Ashley. He sent a silent prayer of thanks to God as Ryan tried standing but wobbled on his feet.
Suzanne helped Ryan stand right.
"I'm fine," Ryan told her in a gruffy tone as he broke himself free from her hold.
Ryan almost fell back to the floor but Andrew quickly kept Ryan's arm around his shoulders, bearing his weight at once.
"So much for defeating her too hard," Andrew muttered, slightly irked.
He then led Ryan towards the boys' bathrooms.
"Suzanne and Ethan, you can carry on, we'll catch up later on," Andrew told them as he led a wobbly Ryan out of the huge hall. "Not that I care anyway," Andrew added and shrugged slightly before he left, heaving Ryan along.
"Do not do that to me!" Ethan warned Suzanne loudly as he eyed her meanly once Andrew had left with Ryan.
Ashley and Suzanne both burst out in laughter.
"Bye guys!" Ashley waved.Ryan replied with a mumbled grunt and Ethan laughed again as he looked Ryan over. What had happened there that afternoon was still extremely funny to him, though Ryan would not readily agree with him."Hey, Ethan, is anyone picking you up?" Ashley asked as she got out her bicycle.Ethan made a sour face as he looked her way."My big brother's picking me up; he always does," he replied."Okay! See you tomorrow then!" Ashley said cheerfully as she hopped on her bike and pedaled away."Bye Ashley," Suzanne smiled and waved nimbly as Ashley rode off.She and Andrew turned to start walking towards the bus stop.Ryan's butler, Greg, zoomed in. He alighted from the car."Master Ryan," Greg said as he opened the back seat of the limousine for Ryan."Thanks," Ryan replied curtly as he entered.Greg went to the driver's seat."Ryan! Wait! Don't leave!" a girly voice shrieked behind th
Andrew looked away as his dad fixed a rather harsh gaze on him."You're late," he repeated, but with a more controlled tone than before."By two seconds," Andrew said."Do you know how precious each second is? In just a second you could save a life! And you are a hero in the making, yet you think two seconds means nothing?!" his dad's nostrils swelled up.Just then Andrew's mother came into the living room.Andrew stood some feet near the door but he backed it. He faced his dad who stood beside a chair that faced the door. He had been timing Andrew's arrival.Andrew at once looked in his mother's direction. He hadn't seen her come in but the orange fragrance of the perfume she usually wore filled the room. She approached her husband."That's enough now," she said with a note of finality.Just as his dad was cooling down, Andrew's next remark made him blow his top again."It's just two seconds," Andrew's eye
"Goodnight master Ryan," Greg said politely.Ryan nodded curtly."Night."Ryan shut the door to his room quietly. He walked over to the adjacent door and opened it. The cool night air hit him as he stepped into the small balcony. He held the rim and looked at the serene vast land of his estate that stared at him.He could make out the lake where it stood on the property. The swans would gather at spring; they always did.The weeping willows that were far off seemed weepier that day.The green house already had the flowers in it blooming. But the roses were planted separately as a personal garden where only roses grew.Though they were of different kinds and in a variety of colors.Rita's favorite had been the white ones. She'd hang them in her hair all the time.Ryan looked down at the fountain that was decorated with statues of horses that were a few feet below his balcony. He closed his eyes and opened th
Recap of part 1;"Can we not do this now?" Suzanne said as she put her spoon down. She was trying to eat her cereal in peace but her parents, especially her dad, were lecturing her on how to behave once she gets to Superhero high.Shane laughed from where he sat."You mean they shouldn't lecture you on being a complete disappointment like you are?" he asked and laughed again."Shut up Shane!" She snarled at him.In a mild way it was true. Suzanne O'Izzy was just an average kid, a clumsy kinda girl with big dreams. She wants to be the hero everyone looks up to so badly.Luckily in her country, Herotapolis, there was an organization, Hero League, that could make her dream come true but first she and the others who are vying to be heroes have to go through a test known as the Thriox which consists of three tests.
"Silverstin?!" Suzanne quipped, amazed. The guy that stood before them was the hero league's best student. It was rumored that he had worked for Shades for a while but his power was too much for them to contain and in order not for him to be eaten up by darkness he was sent back to the hero league since they'd assumed being around his mates would bring out his positive side.Nothing changed. He was the most popular hero. Even new born babies knew his name. But he was rumored to be strict and rules-abiding. He also didn't do anything fun.He was a Rolex. His powers weren't fully known yet but so far, he could turn people within a sixty mile radius into ice. He mainly dealt with ice-based things. When he was still a kid, about three different series of painful experiments were run on him by his dad, who worked for the rogue heroes. He later
Squad 10 had different expressions on their faces as they got an earful from a very annoyed Aiden. Ryan couldn't stop with the cold scowl while Suzanne looked perpelexed. Ethan was more annoyed at Ryan being able to do something while he laid there getting captured than he was at Aiden for his mouthful scoldings. Andrew was just...well you guessed it, bored! "That was a complete fail!" Aiden repeated. Suzanne bowed her head, a bit ashamed. Aiden paced around while the four stood watching him. "You didn't even attempt to work as a team! Just like the last time, you all ran off on your own!" "So this was about team work?" Ryan asked in his usual tone. A glare sent his way from Aiden was enough to make him look away. "You were too easy to predict!" Aiden stated. "I'm disappointed in all of you," Aiden said. "Anyway what was I t
"Hey guys! Morning!" Ashley said sweetly as she walked up to Ryan and Andrew. As usual Andrew had been first to arrive, then Ryan came not too long after."Ashley," Andrew nodded curtly at her then resumed his typing. Ryan just turned away. She slid into a chair unbothered. They were in the the school waiting room. Ashley zipped open her bag and started looking for something.Just then Ethan walked in."Oy! Good morning everyone!" he said cheerfully as he sat beside Ryan. "Ethan," Andrew said curtly and resumed his typing. Ryan just grunted in response."Hey! Morning Ethan," Ashley beamed at him."Whatcha got there?" Ethan asked curiously as she yanked out a box from her bag. "I brought cookies for everyone," Ashley annouced."Really?!" Ethan's eyes widened.Ashley nodded. She passed him a smaller
"Here I am! Class 4D!" Ethan announced, "And look, Jake's in my class also. Man, Ava too."Ashley turned to Andrew, "Seems we're both in 4A." "I guess," Andrew replied in a nonchalant way."I'm in 4E! And so is Annabelle! Urgh!" Suzanne was rather disgusted."Do you know anyone other than Andrew in class 4A?" Ryan asked Ashley. She scanned through the list again. "Yeah, Janet and Edward are also in our class," she nodded."Why am I stuck with Annabelle?!" Suzanne said in an annoyed tone."None of us are in class 4C," Ethan observed."Alright, since we all know our main classes let's check our time table," Andrew said and switched to the time table of class 4A. "We're having Languages first," Ashley said, turning to Andrew.Andrew nodded and switched to class 4B.Ryan scanned the list and groaned. "Great! Just when I t
Andrew walked to the window and looked out of it. He wasn't seeing the scene before him but the scene of what happened eight years ago."Big brother," Andrew raced into Asher's room.Asher was packing his bag. His Squad, Squad 7 were supposed to supervise some kids camping in the woods. Asher faced his younger brother with a smile. "Andrew, what's up Champ?" He grinned. Andrew plopped down on his brother's single bed.Andrew made a face. "Are you really going on the camping trip? Why don't you just stay home with me?" Andrew asked with a small pout. Asher laughed. Andrew always acted differently when they were alone, freer. But when with his mates or other outsiders he tends to be curt and reserved.
Suzanne groaned and kept her head on the desk.Ethan curiously peered at her, leaning over in the process to see her face as she had the back of her head turned to him."Suzanne?" Ethan called. They were all locked in a class as Aiden had given them all a time-out when he caught them stalking him.He was standing behind the classroom door waiting for the time he would release them.Ashley walked to the window.Even though they were being punished she was satisfied she had found out the true identity of the girl. She was Aiden's girlfriend.Ryan glared at Ashley angrily. He on the other hand wasn't happy about being punished by Aiden. Apart from the fact that he was their CIN, he was also a sort of elder brother to him."I'm really disappointed in all of you. Especially you
The doorbell of Suzanne's house rang.Shane who was eating chips while watching some football as it was Saturday groaned as the doorbell rang again."Go away!" He yelled. He didn't want to get up and open the door, he couldn't even get up to grab the remote to change the channel away from the sports channel he kept.He felt like watching documentary but due to his laziness he refused to get off the futon he laid on.Though the remote was on the center table he was too lazy to reach for it.He had a huge bag of chips opened beside him and a can of malt by the futon on the floor where he could easily reach it. A pizza box was lying on the futon as well. The doorbell rang again.Shane groaned aloud. He and Suzanne were the only ones around as their parents had earlier gone to a couple’s program and they were
"Hey Suzanne!" Annabelle rushed to Suzanne's desk.Suzanne kept her books inside her bag."Let's go home, I'm ready," Suzanne said looking at her."No..., no time for that! C'mon! Let's go quickly before it's all filled up!" Annabelle said breathlessly and grabbed Suzanne's wrist and yanked her out of their classroom.Annabelle ran across the hallway, pulling Suzanne along. The hallway was unusally crowded as people were headed the same direction as Annabelle.Annabelle roughly shoved some people aside as she made her way through until they got to the front. It was rowdy as lots of people were yelling at each other, shoving themselves as they held their pens. What's happening? Suzanne wondered with wide eyes as she saw Ethan holding a fistful of someone's cloth angrily. A senior that was in C-rank was t
The boat docked. The water had really been the fastest route they could take. The port was extremely busy as people walked up and down, boarding huge ships while some well built men hauled huge vessels into their containers."We've arrived at civilization," Ryan said pleased.Their boat struck dry land making them all jolt forward.Ethan was the first to jump out of the boat, unto the white sandy beach. Some people threw them curious stares but that was it, they still went on about on their way.Simply because this was Herotapolis, and weird things happened so it wasn't a strange sight to see five teenage kids jumping out of a rickety boat.Andrew had smartly advised them to put on the clothes they had on when Aiden left them off in the jungle. In this way they all had their code colors on, along
"Dude, you're pissing me off!" Suzanne growled at Andrew."You shouldn't be a klutz," he replied in a cool tone, not at all fazed by her temper."It was an accident!" She yelled at him."Maybe you should work on controlling your body movements, like you need to work on controlling your tongue," Andrew told her curtly and turned back.He glanced at the broken pieces of the clay bowls Suzanne ought to have brought out where they were all camped outside around the fire before he started walking out of the kitchen."How about this for control?!" Suzanne hissed as she grabbed a nearby small pot holding water and hurled it at Andrew's head but he simply moved to the left without looking back and she missed her target. The pot connected to the wall beside the entrance to the kitchen.Ryan who was coming to check what was taking th
Suzanne opened her eyes. It was already morning.Ashley and everyone else were already up and they were all in the room, except Andrew."Hey guys," Suzanne said as she got up."Suzanne!" Ethan cheerfully turned her way.Ryan just scoffed and crossed his arms. "I thought you were never going to wake up.""Good morning," Ashley smiled at her."Alright! Let's go get some breakfast! I'm starving!" Ethan said."Thankfully we should have some meat from your hunt yesterday," Ashley told Ethan.Ryan frowned slightly, "But we'll have to be lighting up the fire and fanning up the flames again. All that work.""It's a good thing we start early then," Suzanne said and they all walked towards the kitchen."Yeah, and then we'll do something about having a small bathroom and maybe some cloth
Suzanne sat up in her leafy hammock.Andrew had made a hammock each for everyone to sleep on out of broad leaves and some strong vines that were lying around.Of course Ryan had made a fuss about sleeping on a hammock made out of leaves but Ashley piled all their jackets and coats on his own hammock so that he could be comfortable.Ethan had yelled about Ryan being a brat and Ashley shared some cheery story about her childhood as they sat round the fire, before they all retired to sleep.Suzanne rubbed her eyes and she glanced out of the small square window. It was still dark.I wonder what time it is. She said and adjusted herself on her hammock. Her eyes roamed round her sleeping teammates.Ethan was snoring loudly and one of his arms was swinging out of his hammock. She rolled her eyes at his sleeping figure. She got up softly
"CIN really left us here?!" Suzanne shrieked, horrified."No, we thought he left us in our cozy bedrooms and he went back to bring us breakfast in bed," Ryan snorted."You better shut up now!" Suzanne snapped at him."Or what?" He scoffed.Suzanne's nostrils flared. Some minutes later he was yelling that she should let go of his ear that she was twisting around."That's enough," Andrew bored voice made Suzanne let him go.Ethan smiled snidely at Ryan who was rubbing his ear painfully."I suggest we just follow the path!" Ethan said.Andrew who had bent down, stood straight. "No. That's useless. I was awake while CIN was driving. There's too many turns and we can get lost," he told Ethan."What now?" Suzanne moaned.Ashley glanced at her wristwatch.
