Chapter Forty Two

Trina sat in the taxi and saw nothing as he drove her to the tiny bedsit she had rented in the poorest part of the city and left her outside the door. She could have paid for a much bigger apartment but she was punishing herself because she believed it was all her fault so she had isolated herself in the worst area although she did not know it. No one would find her in the ghetto it was the last place they would even look, Jess was going out of her mind with worry and searched everywhere she could think of when Trina did not turn up for the first day of term. Anthony tried to find her utterly appalled by Caleb’s indifference,

‘I thought you loved her’

He told him angrily a few days later when no one had seen or heard from her,

‘I thought I did’

The reply shocked Anthony to the core,

‘You don’t mean that’

He snapped back he knew Caleb was battling his demons and he blamed himself just as much as she did.
