Chapter 17: The Hatred in his Eyes

The gate creaked open as Ava immediately crawled out of the Iron Pit, traumatized and trembling, her silver hair wet from her sweaty scalp as it cascaded down over her face.

Immediately, she got out, and the gate was dropped down and locked at once.

She couldn’t believe her eyes. She was unscathed. The beasts didn’t touch a strand of her hair when she spoke to them in the ancient Lycans’ language.

“The gods are by your side, Princess. The Direwolves have gone totally mad, and about twelve of our keepers have been brutally devoured. How could you have escaped this?” one of the keepers said.

Ava’s heart was thudding fast, still trembling cluelessly. Why her? Why did they bring her here to test the Direwolves’ appetite?

As she sat close to the rocky wall, hugging her legs while still shivering in shock, her flimsy gown was red from the devoured keeper’s blood. She raised her head to see Alpha Karl walking down the stairs.

“You did this to me! Why?” Ava yelled as tears streame
