CHAPTER 14: EMILY

“Leave us” Anne had snapped as soon as we entered the house, flicking her hand at Robert. I could already tell by her tone that she wasn’t in a good mood.

Nothing unusual for her. Like me, Robert did as he was told. I wasn’t even worried about what was to come when I’d followed her into the parlor. I felt numb.

“Yes? What is this all about?” Anne asks,, abruptly turning to face me, the permanent scowl she wears prominent on her face.

“I was feeling unwell in New York, so I decided to come home” I say not trying to hide my exhaustion.

I was physically and emotionally exhausted when we landed, but grateful that Robert allowed time for me to fix myself up before we got into the car. No amount of makeup could cover the bags under my eyes, but I did the best I could.

“Have you seen a doctor?” She asks not bothering to stand up from her chair.

“No. I think it’s just a bug. I’ll be okay” I needed to get out of this room as possible.

“You better be” she snarls at
