RICHARD

Throwing a hand over his eyes, Richard groaned and turned on his stomach. Groaning into the pillow, he opened his eyes and looked at the giant wall clock.

It was few minutes after seven in the morning. He groaned again, this time loudly. He hadn't woken up that late in weeks. Months even.

Actually, he knew why he had woken up late. Simone had kept him up most of the night.

Looking over to the other side of the bed, he found it empty and guessed Simone had left earlier. Richard pushed himself off his bed and quickly wore the shorts he'd stripped off during their heated rump the night before.

He'd been in an on and off relationship with Simone for two years now. It wasn't that he didn't like her or find her convenient as a potential partner.

The attraction between them had always been great. The sex was even super. His daughters even liked her. Yet, he always hesitated.

She was an actress and had even been married once which obviously didn't work out. They'd met at the launching of a city mall. Things had kicked off between them. It wasn't always smooth between them but he really enjoyed his time with her.

Securing the shorts around his waist, he left the room without bothering to put on a polo or even a t-shirt.

He was out of his room and almost down the stairs when he heard the music coming from the kitchen.

Simone didn't leave yet?

Making his way briskly to the kitchen, he found Simone in his shirt which barely covered her butts, swaying to the music and getting a carton of milk from the chest freezer.

"Simone, you're still here?" He asked. He almost couldn't hear himself. For a second there, he felt disappointed that she was still in his house.

Swinging around to flash him a big smile, she began to pour into a glass.

"Good morning to you too." Simone handed him a glass and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. "You thought I was gone, right?"

Deciding not to answer, Richard dropped the glass of milk on the kitchen island and walked over to the chest freezer to get a bottle of water.

"Well, you don't have to answer that but I made you breakfast." She continued and started to put plates on the island.

"I know it's nothing compared to what Maria serves you for breakfast but this is from me to you."

Richard could hear the excitement in her voice and he couldn't tell why she was. Guzzling down the bottle of water, he threw the plastic in a trash can and finally turned to Simone.

"You didn't have to make breakfast." He said and looked squarely at Simone, not attempting a smile.

"I had to since you haven't found a replacement. Come sit. I made bacon egg muffins." Simone announced and pulled out a sit for him.

Settling himself down on the chair, Simone placed two egg muffins on his plate and drew the untouched cup of milk closer to it.

Richard spared her a glance and looked down at the muffins. It wasn't bad that she had made breakfast for him. Infact, Richard appreciated it, but it was baffling that she didn't know he hated egg muffins even in the two years of their relationship.

Maybe that was why he hesitated everytime he was with her. Their lack of interest in each other's lives and basic essence.

"Egg muffins." He repeated.

Simone nodded and sat on the chair beside his.

Stealing glances from the plate to her, he finally made for the cup and took a sip. He was about reaching for the egg muffins when he heard approaching footsteps.

They both turned towards the sound to see Victoria already standing at the entrance.

Perfect timing.

"Good morning, sir." Victoria greeted and bowed slightly at Simone who gave her a spearing gaze as if she had interrupted something very important.

For once that morning, Richard was really grateful to Victoria for saving him from bacon egg muffins.

Taking the cue as his way of escape, he pushed away from the table and turned to Victoria. "Am I late for my meeting this morning?"

"We still have_"

Shaking his head at her, he stopped her mid-sentence and started walking towards the hallway. "Less than thirty minutes Victoria.''

"You haven't touched the muffins yet, Richard." Simone hollered at him.

"Victoria can have it," he called back and went upstairs to the master bedroom to get dressed for his meeting.

While Richard went to get ready, the two ladies were left alone in the kitchen.

Simone had always seen Victoria as a threat, considering how close she was with Richard and how long she'd worked with him.

Victoria on the other hand, had no interest in Richard but didn't have to correct the impression since she too, doesn't have any likeness for Simone.

Victoria took Richard's vacated seat and reached for a muffin but Simone swatted her hand away, pushing away the plate with a daring glare.

"I didn't make them for you, Ms Secretary!"

Setting her bag on the island, Victoria raised her chin to meet Simone's hateful gaze. "If you know the first things about him, then you would know that he doesn't like egg muffins."

Victoria leaned closer with a mischievous look plastered on her face. She was certainly having a good time giving Simone that information.

The realization on Simone's face made it all the more exciting for Victoria.

"You didn't know that?" Victoria feigned the surprise look. "How long have you been with him? A year? Two years? And you don't know that?'' she whispered mockingly.

Tactically snatching up a muffin from the plate, Victoria gave the other lady a sly smile and bit into it.

"You're really getting on my nerves," Simone swore at Victoria, becoming very upset.

Chewing softly, Victoria shook her head lightly, then placed the half-bitten egg muffin back on the plate. "That could use a little more seasoning. It's really bland," Victoria said and downed Richard's cup of milk.

Simone looked like she could really burst any minute. "You're really crazy. Really really crazy." Simone fired and stomped out of the kitchen.

"I really hate your secretary!" Simone snarled as she stomped into the walk-in closet, fuming by the closet's door.

Richard was almost done getting dressed, he only needed to pick a watch and knot his tie after buttoning his white shirt.

Standing before the mirror, he buttoned up his crispy white shirt, his back to Simone who was still fuming at the entrance, though he could still see her through the mirror.

"I don't. She's great at her job." Richard noted and it earned him a dark stare from Simone. "Richard, really? She's so nasty to me."

He just shrugged and reached for a black tie that he'd put on top of the glass shelves.

Simone traipsed closer to him, forcing him to turn to her. Snatching the tie from him, she threw it over his neck.

"You could've just told me you don't like egg muffins, instead of passing it off like that."

The egg muffins!

Richard opened his mouth to say something but shut it when nothing came out of it.

"It made me realize we might not really know the basic things about each other," giving him a weak smile she knotted the tie perfectly and drew a manicured finger across his handsome face.

"What is it Richard? You don't like me enough to pop the question?" She asked, her voice coming down to whispers.

Realizing exactly where she was headed, he took a few steps back and grabbed hold of his grey suit jacket.

"I can't do this right now, Simone," shrugging into his jacket and buttoning it.

Simone wasn't going to let him be without an answer, he knew that.

Simone held him by the shoulders, looking intently at him. "I need to know what's up with us..."

Shrugging her hands away, gently though as he wouldn't want to seem rude. He picked up a gold watch and strapped it on his wrist.

"Can we talk about this later? Maybe over dinner sometime? I need to go Simone." He said impatiently.

Actually, there was no rush. He didn't even need to be at the meeting, but he doesn't intend to let Simone know that, for his own good.

Simone was really upset, but knew Richard wasn't going to let her steer him that way. About that dinner!

"So..." She drawled, pouting at him and batting the fake lashes at him, "about that dinner? When would that be?" Folding her hands and staring at him.

Richard turned to check himself out in the mirror one last time. Confirming that he looked good and was good to go, he turned to Simone, "why don't you check your schedule and tell me. I'll plan something special." He didn't mean to add that but...

Forcing a smile at her, he knew it was time he left.

"You'll still be here, yes?" He really hoped upon hope that she wouldn't be.

Simone's lips curled in a smile and she leaned close to him. "Don't worry, I'll be gone before you get back." Pressing a wet kiss to his lips, she straightened his tie and bade him goodbye.

Victoria smiled up at him immediately he came downstairs.

"What did I miss, Victoria?" He asked as he handed her his briefcase.

"Taylor called. She couldn't reach you," taking the briefcase from him.

His ears piqued at that. Taylor, his eldest daughter had been gone for almost four months for a business training program, somewhere in the far west.

"I still can't understand why she had to go all the way to Merynn for a training program." He muttered, more to himself than for Victoria's ears.

Running a hand over his brows, he fixed his eyes on Victoria who still had more information to share. "What did she say?"

"Her program's ended so she would be coming home." Victoria's face broke into a big smile.

The information was well received because Richard's face beamed and his eyes lit up.

"By Saturday. That's like in four days, sir."

Nodding, he started for the front door and Victoria followed suit.

"Then you need to get a housekeeper and a cook ASAP!"

His daughter's coming home.

RICHARD Out of the ten applicants Victoria had interviewed from 9am till 2pm that Thursday morning, she had decided on just three. One looked efficient but wouldn't stop batting her eyelids. Victoria asked her why she kept doing that and she had said that she had blepharospasm. It wasn't anything serious that would prevent her working efficiently but Victoria wasn't taking any chances, as it already made her uncomfortable. Sorry. You have to go, Victoria said, and then rather told her that she'll hear from them soon. Sorry. Again! Shoving them aside, stacking the three CVs on top of the rest, she exhaled in deep exasperation. She had to get someone real fast before Richard's daughter gets back. Knowing she had to tell him the extent of the interviews, she gathered up the three files without looking at them and went into his office. Richard was expecting her to brief him about the success or failure of the interviews, but judging from her expre

"Leave me alone," she mumbled in her sleep. Her voice coming out groggy. "You'll be late for the interview." That was all Ava needed to hear. Snapping her eyes open, she swerved her head to stare at Nicole. "The interview?" She asked. She had got an email to come for the job interview and she had spent the rest of the day, picking out an outfit. She had told Nicole that the interview was the first step to her answered prayers. She was so excited that even after Nicole had left for work, she had stayed awake till 2am in the morning. Nicole was probably shocked to find her still asleep when she returned. Ava was told to show up by 9am and it was already thirty minutes after 8. Scrambling out of the bed, "why didn't you wake me up?" The sheets tangled around her legs and sent her dropping to the floor, in a heap.

RICHARD "I still think she's a bad decision. I can get someone better. She's like a child." Victoria informed Richard, immediately they returned to his office. Richard was with Mr. Xavier when she got back, she had to hold her horses and wait till the papers were signed and eventually left. She had her reservations about Xavier Co. She thought it was a bad investment but Richard was the kind of man who never gets out of what he had made up his mind about. Still, Victoria always gave him a piece of her mind. Richard, still sitting at the head of the table in the boardroom, with the papers and empty water bottles scattered across the table, met Victoria's intruding gaze. "It's good that she's like a child. At least, I won't feel like I'm in danger around her," he said, as he loosened his tie and rounded his desk to sit on the recliner. She hadn't heard him come in, so she had gasped when she found him standing there gazing at her. How long had he been standing there for? Blinking hard against the masculine figure before her, she felt her heartbeat speed up and drum sporadically. He wasn't anything like the gigantic portrait of himself that stood at the corner of the sitting room. Gray hair. Gray beards. Fine lines. He wasn't anything like the kind of men Ava was used to seeing. For a man his age, he sure looked really breathtaking. Heck! She hadn't seen a man like that. His streaking gray hair made him all the more formidable. Raising a hand to her throat, she swallowed and prayed he didn't hear and see how nervous she was. Looking down sharply at herself, she was grateful for the apron that covered her ugly outfit. It was d

RICHARD Richard knew he'd got to ask the question that had been on his mind since he saw her in his kitchen. He needed to know to sate his curiosity. He'd never been particularly interested about a woman's hair, but hers? It just stirred something in him. He'd never seen a red hair so curly and frizzy like her's. It reminded him of an artwork he'd seen at an exhibition a long time ago- Taylor had literally dragged him to one. It wasn't anything about a hair or a woman but it made him think of sunsets and rainbows. That was just what Ava's name made him think of. Sunsets and rainbows. And her name? He'd never met an Ava before. He even liked how it rolled off his tongue. Christ! what's wrong with me? It had just been few hours and he was already so weird and had never felt that way around anyone before. Her eyes pierced into his as she lulled over his absurd question. Richard was sure he would never ask anyone that, so what's going on? She casually

AVA It was few minutes past 6pm when Ava got home. Nicole was doing her makeup, getting ready to leave for the club. Thank goodness, she's out of that shitty job, Ava prayed silently. She toed off her shoes at the door and slumped on the bed, visibly tired. She still couldn't get over the fact that she had sat and ate and talked with her employer. No one had ever paid her that kind of attention. It was a thrilling experience, but she knew that it just couldn't be. Maybe that was how he was. Just being nice and friendly. "I can see you got the job, since you didn't get back earlier than I expected." Nicole said, leaning closer to the mirror to get a good look at the eyebrows she was trying so hard to draw. The way she drew them always made Ava think of the cockroach antennae. Funny! Sighing heavily, "I did. Like I told you I would. Isn't it great?" She asked, not expecting a response. Nicole stopped and turned to look at Ava, her brows raised. "Really? Is that ostentation I he

RICHARD Henry sped through the busy streets of Bellamy. Richard and Victoria had just ended the meeting with the Minister. His eyes were fixed on the iPad that had spreadsheets that Victoria had organized over the weekend for the upcoming seminar. Victoria sat beside him and typed away on the laptop that sat on her lap. "I was almost tempted to come find you..." She let her words hang, waiting for his reaction. Richard looked away from the iPad and looked at her. "Come find me?" He frowned as he tried to understand her. She stopped typing and raised her eyes to his. "The Minister almost had my head when I went to tell him that you would be cancelling..." She paused, then added quickly, "again." Richard squinted. "I almost had to come find you at the glass house." Richard's eyes dimmed. "You wouldn't dare." He swore lightly. Victoria's face remained bland as she looked back at him. "Of course you would," he said and turned his eyes ba

AVA Ava was really astonished. Recently, she's been having the time of her life with Richard and all. She'd resumed work that Tuesday morning but Richard had left already. He'd left her a message that he would be gone by the time she arrived. He had things he needed to attend since he was absent during the weekend. Though she was disappointed that she had missed him, she was still glad that he had let her know. It made her really glad. But, that wasn't what left her astonished. It was the effect of the shoes she was gazing at. She was sitting in the kitchen, rearranging stuff when Taylor came in, holding a bright blue box in her hands. Ava smiled at her and wondered why she was setting the box down on the island with a big smile on her face. "Hello, Ava. I missed you this weekend and yesterday." There was something in her voice that made Ava blush all over. Taylor's eyes were fixed squarely on her and Ava couldn't look at her. Tayl

RICHARD Richard was sure it was the most exciting and happiest days of his life. The weekend he spent with Ava was so worth it. He did things he normally would never had done. He swam with Ava at the pool, watched movies, snuggled up with her more times than they dud other things. It was lovely. It was peaceful. On Monday morning, he'd dropped Ava off at the bus station like she had insisted again, letting her have the rest of the day off and resume the next day. He had it in mind to do something about it as he drove home, deciding to work from home and probably get Victoria to drop by. He'd intentionally left his phone behind so that he wouldn't be reached. If there was a problem that needed his immediate attention, Victoria knew where he was. After bathing and changing into a gray slacks and red polo, he'd gone into his Study to check his missed calls and emails. As expected, he'd missed twenty three calls. He had missed about eight calls

RICHARD Richard towered over Ava on the bed, he need not to worry about how they made it to the room. It was just like a flash and they were there. He looked down at the most beautiful thing his eyes has ever behold. Her red hair was spread out on the bed, making her look like the Greek goddess of Beauty. Her eyes sparkled as they looked up at him. Pressing kisses all over her face as he made to unknot the belt that held the bathrobe. He parted the sides and looked down at her. He just laid her down at the edge so that her feet were almost on the cold floor. Her hands tightened around his neck, holding him close that they could feel each other's heat. Leaning in, he closed his lips around hers, deepening the kiss. It was unhurried. It was slow and sweet like the slow dance. There were sparks and waves over them. It could be his best moment. Right there. At that moment. In each other's arms, reveling in what time had to give. His heart was racing, hi

AVA Ava woke up to an unfamiliar room. She closed her eyes and opened them. She had to rub her fingers against her eyes and glance round the room she could remember where she was. Quickly turning to look to the other side of the bed, it was empty. The room wasn't plunged into darkness, but the lights were turned low so that she'd sleep easily. After that talk with Richard downstairs, he had carried her upstairs and urged her to get some sleep. He'd tucked her in, kissed her gently on the forehead before exiting the room. As she remembered it, it made her feel so tingly. It made her feel all lived up. Or maybe she had daddy issues. She smiled to herself and threw the duvet over her head, but she had to go find him. She lowered the duvet and checked the clock that was hung on the wall opposite the bed. She gasped as she knew they'd gotten to the house by 10 o'clock and it was already after 1:47.
