Grant's POV

Lena turned and at that moment there was a slight wavering look on her face, but after that, her green eyes caught mine, surprised? Annoyed? They flickered and then she composed herself.

"Grant," she said, her tone polite but distant. "I didn't expect to see you this soon."

Damien's dark gaze switched from one to the other, but the stance of the man was rock-solid. "Require anything, Grant?" he asked, his voice cold yet the warning undercurrent thick.

I acted as if I had not heard him and continued watching Lena. "Can we talk? Alone?"

Lena hesitated for a moment; eyes went on Damien. I thought for a second that she would say no, but then she squared her shoulders and nodded. "All right."

Damien stepped forward, in a towering presence. "If you have something to say, you can say it here."

"It's fine, Damien," Lena interjected while placing a hand on his arm. Her touch was light but seemingly did something to help that tension. "I can handle this."

  • His to Consume    Over Stressed

Lena's POV Damien, who had stuck beside me silently, gazed at the same thing I was seeing. His face remained unchanged, although it was betrayed even by a mere crease of the brow. "Why is Cassidy's family here?" I asked, my voice low though charged with irritation. He met my eyes, calm but sober. "Her family is more important than you think," he answered, giving me the deep look I was expecting. I blinked. "What do you mean?" "The Graham family has strong connections," he explained, in measured tones, "like ties with old money, with political circles...and most likely with more businesses than most people can keep track of. Having them here is not just about Cassidy; it is about what their name means." I frowned and focused back on Cassidy, who was laughing at something said to her by Grant. With his arm around her, the two looked so very familiar. "So? " Must we just suppose that we will find a red carpet for them because they are powerful?" I almost hissed, not able to keep t

  • His to Consume    Daddy Show Off

Lena's Point of View Finally, I was back inside the hall. I tried my best to suppress that feeling of frustration within me, which I realized would simmer with time. I sat in what I hoped was a normal posture, but my mind was racing. My eye caught Damien in the corner watching me. He bore an unreadable expression. He did not say anything, although it was obvious that he knew that something was wrong. I gave him a little shake of my head, silently telling him to leave it alone for now. As I sat there pretending to listen to the surrounding conversation, I couldn't help being drawn towards my parents, who were already mingling about the party, charming their way through the throng as if they really belonged here. I clenched my jaw, gripping the stem of my champagne glass a little too tightly. This night was supposed to be all about moving forward-that would entitle me to claim my place here under my own terms. But then came my parents to make this feel like fighting on every front.

Lena's POV Verana stepped closer, her gaze fixed on my mother like a hawk sizing up its prey. “Grant doesn’t need empty flattery, Charlotte. He’s accomplished more on his own than most could dream of.”The words were a subtle jab, but the meaning was clear. Verana saw my mother for what she was: a manipulative opportunist. My mother’s smile tightened, but she didn’t respond. Instead, she turned her attention back to Grant, determined to regain the upper hand.I’d had enough.Pushing my chair back, I stood and walked toward the nearest balcony. The cool night air was a welcome relief, a stark contrast to the suffocating tension inside. I leaned against the railing, staring out at the city lights as I tried to calm the storm raging inside me.I hated this. I hated the way my parents could waltz in and upend everything without a second thought. I hated the way they used me, the way they treated my life as a tool for their own ambitions. Most of all, I hated the way they made me feel lik

  • His to Consume    We're Here For Lena

Lena's POV "We are here for Lena," my father said finally."Oh, and why not?" replied Verana with a tight smile. "How fortunate for her." Trying to understand, Grant interrupted. "Well, I'm just glad you're able to make it. It's always nice to see familiar faces."His attempt fell short, and silence steeped in unsayables filled the vacuum. Both parents exchanged glances at each other, only for my mother to speak again. "Now we won't keep you any longer," she said breezily. "Grant, it was lovely catching up. Lena, we shall see you later." And they turned and faded away into the crowd, leaving a taut silence behind. I released a belligerent breath, the knot in my chest loosening just a little now that they're gone. "Are you alright?" Grant inquired in a low tone. I nodded. Yes, the weight of the evening was still heavy on me. "Yeah. Thanks for....handling that." He flashed a grin, just brushing my hand with his. "Anytime." As he pivoted to join party-goers, Verana stepped in ev

  • His to Consume    The Crowd Sympathy

Lena's POV He was really going to make an announcement. The sound of the party went even louder than when Julian ascended the stage, looking phenomenal in his dark suit, polished shoes reflecting little sparkles off the chandeliers. The wireless microphone was adjusted, and the crowd fell silent, gaping towards him. Whenever he was there, there was something about him that commanded attention, whether one wanted to give it. I could see him from my perch, near the edge of the ballroom, with my glass of champagne sitting idly in my hand. My thoughts were still muddled from that earlier encounter, playing that taunting comment over and over and over in my head. I pushed thoughts away and concentrated on the here and now. Julian's smooth, confident voice rang into the hall. "Ladies and Gentlemen-good evening, and thank you for gracing us with your presence here today to celebrate not only the glorious legacy of the Williams family but also the exciting adventures yet to come." There w

  • His to Consume    This is Unacceptable

Grant's POVMy ears were still ringing with some of the final applause as I turned to seek out Cassidy in the midst of the throng. Almost throbbing in my veins was a pulse level like that of a galloping horse. Jaw tight, mind racy with a torrent of emotions-jumbles of them all: confusion, frustration, anger-all bubbling messily, threatening to boil over. Whatever it was hadn't been right, and I had made a decision to find out.I saw her -my attention was arrested because of the shimmering golden dress: the laughter of my parents standing in front of the champagne table. The Grahams basked in the spotlight, grinning and self-satisfied, while Lena sat stiffly at her table, anger and humiliation raging just below the surface. This was unacceptable."Cassidy!" I shouted with a cutting tone as soon as I approached. She turned to me, and for a moment, her smile faltered before regaining her quickness. "Grant! What a surprise. Isn't this evening just wonderful?" I did not smile back. I grab

  • His to Consume    Too Emotional

Lena's POV With a smirk on her face, Verena rounded off a slow sip from her glass before saying, "Lena, you really are too ambitious". She said in a tone suggesting a quiet derision, "Always after higher things, up to much more than you can handle. Perhaps you should just stop it." I stared at her, these strange words trying to fit in my head but not making sense. I already knew that Verena never liked me, but this was something different; this type of act felt like attacking her. "I'm not like your kind, Verena," I said with my voice steady regardless of that unsettling knot in my stomach, "not waiting for my turn as an accessory." Verena's smile deepened, but there was no warmth to it. "And that is your problem, Lena. You think you can live and be part of this world without totally knowing how it works. You keep fighting for things you're never going to get." I did not flinch. I couldn't afford to. But there was the poisonous taste in my mouth now; it was an expression of the w

  • His to Consume    Pale Of Confusion

Lena’s POV I really needed to get away from all the chitter-chatter, and the phony smiles, and those glances which by now felt like daggers. The heaviness of the evening was getting to me and, by bated breath, one day I was not going to pretend. The clinking of the champagne glasses and a soft hum of conversation from the ballroom overhead made me feel distant and suffocated. I slipped quietly through the back door, and as soon as I stepped outside, the cool night air began working to calm my frantic nerves. The contrast between the chaos of the party was absorbed in the continuing stillness of the park. The silence here would make me deaf; it was so far away from the people I had tried hard to please. The weight on my chest lightened a bit as I crossed to the edge of the lawn, shoes crunching on the gravel. A row of parked cars slashed alongside the street, the trees casting shadows on the pavement to make dark, comforting pockets of solitude. I needed to breathe and find some sembl

  • His to Consume    You're Impossible

Lena's POVMorning light filtered through the folds of curtains that lavished a golden hue upon the room. I blinked it in; my body was heavy with exhaustion but wrapped in a warmth I had not known for many years. The wash of the ocean outside calmed me; the gentle crash of waves against the shore matched with the slow ebbing of my breath. For a moment, I lay still, suspended between sleep and wakefulness. Then the memories of the previous evening began flooding in, and my cheeks flushed as the actions played out in vivid detail. Grant's hands, rough yet achingly gentle, exploring every inch of me as if he were mastering me all over again. The way he whispered my name, his voice thick with emotion and need, as though I was the only thing left in the world. It was not simply physical; it was deeper than that. Every touch, every kiss, every moment was so raw and intense that it made me feel naked and cherished all at once. He took his time, speaking the words we were too scared to say

  • His to Consume    I Want You,Lena ...

Lena's POV The steam curled around us warm and suffocating, and my heart raced as Grant stepped closer with his eyes fixated on me. His shirt stuck to him, wet from the rain, and beads of water rolled down his jawline like streams. "What are you doing?" I barely breathed, whispering the question."Staying." The response was simple, his voice steady but soft, as though he had suddenly become afraid any loudness might scare me away.I wrapped my arms around myself instinctively even though I had already shed clothes. "You can't just walk in here, Grant."He stepped closer, his earnest gaze piercing into me. "You could tell me to leave if that's really what you want, Lena, and I'll go. But I think we both know you don't want that.”I did hate it. It was not fair that he could read me so well. He had never been. I had built walls so high, so thick, for years, and here he was, breaking them like glass."You think you know what I want?" I said, a ton sharper than I meant. He paused, an ex

  • His to Consume    I Love You

Lena's POV And just like it was, the evening seemed to fall like a dream, one that I had not realized was in me all along. After a long time, I actually started feeling free-free from the expectations that had shrouded her like a cloud, free from all those endless moments when she had to prove herself worthy, free from the hurt that had pierced her heart for so many days-and where I owe it all to Grant. As the sun lowered into the horizon, filling it with currants of amber and pink, he leaned back amply into his chair, watching me with pleasant eyes and a soft smile, as if everything he had said were true, as if it pained my heart as well."You are staring," I said, arching my brow at him, although I was playfully accusing him. "Can you blame me?" To that he returned in a warm, teasing voice. "You look...happy."I held my breath; the fork suspended above the final bite of dessert. Was I happy? The fearsome, cautious part of me wanted to say no, but, unfortunately for me, it was true

  • His to Consume    Can You Trust me?

Lena's POV I shook my head, and the tears spread. "I can't, Grant. I can't trust you." "Then let me earn it," he said. "Let me prove to you that I'm not the same man who walked away all those years ago." I didn't answer. My heart was so full of doubt and fear. But staring into those eyes, I now saw something that I had not seen in a long time. And for the first time in years, I let the possibility of maybe, just maybe, things could be different cross my mind."Please, just give me till tonight," he pleaded, low in voice. "And I'll make you feel just like the first time we met."Arms crossed, I stared at him, narrowing my eyes, trying to read between lines. The first time we met? That seemed like ages ago when everything was brand new and fresh before everything fell apart. How in the world could he recreate that?"So much you're asking for," I said cautiously, words laced with doubt. "I know," he said, as he moved slightly closer. He was close enough that I nearly gasped, covering

  • His to Consume    What Have i Gotten Myself Into?

Lena's POV The next day, I brimmed with the sound of waves crashing down on the shore. The rhythm of the sound puts the ocean both at ease and in confusion. For a moment or two, I forgot exactly where I was. The softness of the bed and the salty scent in the air drew me to a different location entirely. Then the realization slapped me: resort, rain, Grant. I groaned, rolled over, buried my face into the pillow. What have I gotten myself into? The memory of last night was blurry, but certain moments stood out with startling clarity: Grant carrying me to bed, the weight of his arms around me, the steady rise and fall of his chest against my back as I drifted off. I felt my cheeks flush in embarrassment and rage surged inside me like a thunderstorm. Not right. None of this. I sat up in bed, the duvet pooling around my waist, and looked around the room. Beautiful. This one was, of course. Grant always had a taste for luxury, but somehow it was stiffened. The oversize windows encapsula

  • His to Consume    If You Still Let it

Lena's pov I stared at Grant, my chest constricted by all that he had said. My feelings were in a tangle-they were worse than the storm outside my window. Part of me wanted to believe him and let him hope for another chance at something that had once been so beautiful. But the scars he had left behind had always remained fresh, raw, and they screamed to protect him, not let him in.“No,” I said, my voice shaking but firm. This is not happening, Grant. Whatever this is, whatever it is you're trying to do, it isn't going to work. I am not that naive girl anymore who believes in fairy tales and happy endings. I will not let you back into my life to go rampaging through it all over again."His face fell, the hope in his eyes dimming as my words sank in. For a moment, he looked like he might argue, but then he took a step back, running a hand through his hair in frustration."Lena, I'm asking for something that isn't a fairy-tale," he said, his voice low and raw. ''A chance-a real chance-

  • His to Consume    I Hurt You

Lena's pov I turned around, unable to hold his gaze any longer. And whether my body trembled because of the cold rain or from a cacophony of emotions raging inside me, I do not know. My clothes stuck to my skin. And I wrapped my arms around myself, as though it might shield me from him and that gaze that measured into me as if he might still care. While I stood still as a statue, he spoke to me softly, whispering, "Lena, you do not need to do it alone anymore". Bitter laughter choked out of me when I shook my head and stepped back, trembling slightly. "What is it you want to know, Grant? " What exactly do you think I've been doing?" He turned at me, glaring fury into my eyes. "Oh no! You don't get to swoop in after years of silence, disrupt my life, drag me to some godforsaken resort, and act like you're my savior. That is not how this works."He ran a hand through his wet hair, frustration evident on his face. "You think I don't know how much I've hurt you? You think I don't reply

  • His to Consume    Get up ,Lena

Lena's POV I walked straight to the door, it banged shut behind me by a sound that resounded around the whole house like the beating of my heart. All was a blur in my vision- a cocktail of rage and absolute disbelief. Grant's words seemed to ring loudly even being drowned by that sound; they cut through my defenses like a knife. As though everything he did to drag me away from his wedding and among some other guests at this lonely resort would fix himself for those years. In short, he was wrong. Very wrong.I hurried through the corridor, my steps heavy against the wooden floors. The air outside smells thick and humid, but as soon as I stepped outside, it felt like a release of breath. I wouldn't have cared where I was or how far he had brought me away from civilized areas. All I could think was that I had to be away from him. I needed space to think, feel, and breathe. It was the moment I pulled out my phone to call someone-anyone-that I realized there was no service. Of course. Wh

  • His to Consume    It's Still You

Lena's POV His words flooded over me like a tidal wave, threatening to pull me under. I wanted to be angry, to scream at him for his complete recklessness, but part of me-a small, fragile part-wanted to believe him. Wanted to believe he meant every word. "Just what do you mean by that?" I asked, my voice shaking. "You can't just get up and decide in the middle of your wedding that you want me." That's not how this works, Grant. "I know I messed up," he said, leaning forward, his elbows resting on his knees. "I used to make so many mistakes, Lena." But not again will I be able to leave you.”I shook my head, as I could feel storm-like emotions swirling inside me. "Do you even know what you just did? This is more than just a thing between us, Grant. There are real and tangible consequences. Cassidy, your family, my reputation, how am I supposed to face any of those after this?" "I will fix it," he said positively, with blazing eyes. I don't care what it takes; I will do whatever is r
