EMMA.

I couldn't breathe. As soon as I got to my apartment, I bursted the door open and ran into my room. I could barely see, as my eyes were clouded with tears. I held onto my chest, feeling as though I would faint.

I had lived a great deal of my life hating my mother because she was a mistress. I blamed her for our family not having a father figure. Now, I was no different.

I turned the lock on the door to my room as I heard footsteps approaching.

“Emma,” Aaliyah’s voice called out. I couldn't muster up a reply.

“Emma,” she called me, again. Her voice was hollow, and fragile.

“I'm fine,” I muttered between tears. “I just need a minute alone,”

I heard her tap the door gently with the tip of her fingers. “Fine, but if you're not out in an hour, I'll bust this door.” She threatened.

“I'll be out in an hour,” I replied. I just needed some time alone.

I wiped my eyes, as I pulled off my shoes. I laid lazily on the bed.

I heard Aaliyah, and John conversing.

“She's in her room,” Aaliya
