Starting afresh

The morning was bright and it was Monday, little Zia heard a whisper-like voice which made her open her eyes.

“Honey” Adele's gentle voice called trying to wake her daughter up for school.

“I have been living with the thought that my mama is dead. I watched other children in school hug their mama and even on parents' day, dad couldn’t come only grandma and Nana. Why did you stay away?” The girl asks for Adele to tear up.

“I really want to be there Zee, I swear. I….” Adele can’t spoil Maria for the kids, she feels if she told them Maria was the reason they were apart, they would direct the hate to her and it would be risky for her and the children.
