Chapter 20

“What happened to the offer?” I ask him as I try to keep him calm.

“Russell is giving it to another person.” He says, and I scoff.

I believe there’s a reason behind this decision, and the only reason to find out is to talk to the man himself.

“It’s alright.” I say, even though I’m a bit worried that this contract would slip out of our grip.

“It’s not, Jen. It’s not.” He says, and his eyes starts to get watery.

Why is he so upset?

Yeah, it’s a lot of money, and it would be good for our rep, but it’s not that deep.

“This isn’t only about loosing the offer, is it?” I ask him and he breathes out a shaky sigh.

He takes a few seconds to compose himself, and he sniffles.

“My brother is dying.” He says and understanding dawns on me.

Wow, that’s his only sibling. Why didn’t he tell me sooner?

So he actually left his sick brother in London and came to attend to me here in America just because I was in a car crash.
