Breaking Point

Emma's pov

That night, after deciding to break up with Michael, I lay in the guest room feeling a mix of exhaustion and determination. I knew I couldn't stay there any longer. Picking up my phone, I dialed the number of my colleague and friend, Dr. Laura Mitchell.

"Laura, it's Emma," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I need a favor."

"Of course, Emma," Laura replied, concern evident in her voice. "What’s wrong?"

I explained my situation briefly, and Laura didn’t hesitate. "You can stay with me for as long as you need. My guest room is always ready."

"Thank you, Laura. I really appreciate it," I said, feeling a small sense of relief.

The next morning, I packed my suitcase and moved into Laura’s apartment. She welcomed me warmly, offering a cup of tea as we sat in the living room.
