-Darius-Traveling back with so many men and stopping at each place to ensure their safe return took longer than expected. I wanted to write back to Katherine, but I was so focused on getting home. It consumed my thoughts. But when I finally saw her, it was like a dream come true.“I can’t believe this,” Katherine said, tears streaming down her face.“I can hardly believe it myself,” I admitted. We smiled at each other, clearly reluctant to let go. I studied her, taking in every detail and trying to memorize them all because I knew returning here could bring trouble, and I didn’t want to forget a single thing about her. As I scanned her body, I noticed something: she didn’t look pregnant.“Katherine, is…?” I was almost afraid to ask. I had only seen Katherine when she stepped outside, but when she turned, she looked behind us at a servant holding a small child wrapped in a blanket. I could hear the soft cooing sounds, and I glanced at Katherine, feeling apprehensive. She smiled at me,
-Katherine-I had been so happy to see Darius appear, but then he told me he hadn’t even won the war. He had left! The situation didn’t improve when all those guards appeared. My heart raced in my chest as I watched Darius leave, and for a long moment, I just stood there, unsure of what to do. But then I decided to heed Darius’s words, and I hurried back to our bedroom, calling for some servants.“What is it, my princess?” one of them asked.“I need you to pack some things,” I explained. “But not everything!”She looked at me, appearing confused, as I began instructing her on what needed to be done. I didn’t want to let my son go. I was too scared, and when I saw them starting to pack, I left the room. There was no way I was leaving my husband in Acan’s clutches. I made sure to bring my own guards as I set out to find the others. I learned they were in the large meeting room, and I could already hear shouting on the other side.-Darius-The guards let me into the large meeting room, wh
-Katherine-I was unsure what to make of the scene in front of me. Did Darius need me? Was Acan the one in danger? I soon noticed the gloves lying on the table, and I was surprised to see them there. But now that they were off, I could see something unsettling about his hands. Dark veins crawled up his skin, disappearing beneath his clothing. I had never seen anything like it before. There was something different in Darius’s eyes, too—something swirling that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, but I couldn’t deny it was there. Maybe it was something dark. Something wrong. I couldn’t articulate it, but my husband had definitely changed. I shouldn’t have expected anything less, considering where he had just returned from, but it left me feeling worried.I stood there in the room, unsure of what to say or do as I looked between the two men, both tense and practically shaking with anger. We all remained silent, clearly waiting for someone to make a move. Suddenly, I heard heels clicking aga
-Katherine-Darius stormed into our bedroom, and only once we were inside did he let go of my hand. I watched as he began searching for his belongings and helping the servants pack, but I remained frozen in my spot, rocking gently back and forth with our son. Darius didn’t notice at first that I was standing still, but as he glanced at me, confusion washed over his face. He approached, his soft eyes reemerging, replacing the coldness I had seen moments before.“My queen, why aren’t you packing?” he asked.“Darius, wait,” I told him.He looked puzzled, but I didn’t want this conversation with others listening in. I motioned for the servants to leave and instructed them to let everything remain as it was, despite the mess we had created. I handed our son to one of the guards, unsure where this conversation would lead, and I wanted him to remain undisturbed during his little nap.Once they had left, I walked over to the crib, standing there for a moment as Darius watched me with a smile.
-Darius-I understood Katherine wanted to stay. I heard everything she was saying, but I simply needed her away from the court. Yet I was also worried about how she would perceive me now. I could see the concern in her eyes.“Do you think I’m a monster now?” I whispered.Katherine looked shocked, then placed her hands on my cheeks, shaking her head. “Never,” she assured me.“I did make the choice to take their powers.”“You did it because you were at war,” she said.“I’ve fought before… but this time I couldn’t stop.”“You had more to fight for,” she countered.I looked at her, confused. She smiled softly before drawing me closer and kissing me. “Me.”That made me smile, and I nodded. “I did.”“I understand that this was something you had to do, but I hope this won’t change you, Darius. You shouldn’t let your powers control you. You fought so hard to prove you were different. Don’t let this change you.”“I’m trying not to,” I confessed. “But I’m scared.”“Is this why you want to leave
-Katherine-The place Darius had chosen was nothing short of breathtaking. Nestled in the countryside, far from bustling cities, it was surrounded by villages and towns—all of which he owned. His father had gifted him this land, ensuring that he held a status even though he had been born a bastard. As I gazed at the magnificent mansion before us, Darius approached, and I couldn’t help but marvel at its grandeur. I knew there would be plenty of room for both of us.Servants stood in neat lines, waiting for our arrival, and Darius explained that they were there to maintain the estate, even though he didn’t live there. He cradled our son in his arms, refusing to put him down, which I found incredibly endearing. As we stepped inside, I looked up at the ornate ceiling, admiring the intricate patterns, and then my eyes fell on the grand staircase leading to the upper floor. I turned around to take in the view.“This is amazing!” I exclaimed.Darius chuckled at my excitement. “It’s not a cast
-Katherine-Darius was not exaggerating when he said he found it hard to sleep. In the middle of the night, I found him standing by the window, the flickering light of the fireplace casting a warm glow on his half-dressed form. He wore only pants, but I could see the worried expression etched on his face as he gazed out into the darkness, as if anticipating an imminent attack.Sitting up slightly, I watched him, noticing the tension in his body as he held himself in a defensive posture. He took a sip from a wine cup, and my heart ached at the sight of him. I felt helpless, knowing there wasn’t much I could do. But I slipped out of bed and threw on a robe. Darius turned to look at me as I approached, and I offered him a small smile, wrapping my arms around him from the side and placing a gentle kiss on his skin. He smiled back, an arm encircling me, yet his eyes remained fixed on the dark outside. I leaned against him, finding solace in his embrace, hoping he found comfort in mine.“Dar
-Darius-Katherine had received some training in fighting, but I could see that in this world, the other version of her had trained even more, especially since Acan was no longer in the way of her lessons. I watched as she swung her smaller sword, made specifically for her, since mine felt too heavy in her hands. She smiled, looking fantastic in her training clothes—tight pants and a fitted shirt—almost resembling a very sexy pirate.“So, my prince, are you ready?” Katherine teased. We were outside on a large grassy area behind the garden. Her teasing smile made me feel good. It was reassuring to see that we could still joke and have fun.“I’m ready,” I told her.Katherine’s smile widened, and she began inching forward. She wasn’t as coordinated or as fast as I was, and I could easily anticipate her moves. When she swung her sword, I blocked it effortlessly, making her stumble slightly to the side. I heard her groan in frustration.“You’re too obvious,” I explained.“That’s just mean.”

-Darius-My beautiful queen came over to me, kissing me before sitting down beside me. Years had passed since we ascended the thrones and began ruling together, although my wife did most of the governing. The way she spoke to the people and connected with them was something I could never replicate. But over time, they had grown less afraid of me and more accepting. Therefore, we often ventured into the city together, walking among the people and ensuring they saw us. We brought all the kids with us as well, but they were nearly filling the entire table at our meals now. Silver’s and Acan’s boys had initially been sad about their parents, but we never fully disclosed our involvement in their fate, only that their parents had died due to the mob. They moved on quickly, and when the line of succession changed, I noticed a sense of relief in the eldest boy. He didn’t want to be king, and now he could enjoy his life as a prince.Katherine and I loved them as if they were our own sons, provi
Darius and I had traveled quite a distance with our prisoners. We knew exactly who to hand them over to, and now we stood in the middle of the night with a single torch, a few guards, and Silver and Acan before us, tied up and shivering uncontrollably. Their clothes were filthy, their bodies dirty after days spent in the dungeon. We had waited until things calmed down a bit before bringing them here, and now we were simply biding our time.“It’s been a while, prince,” the leader of the Dark Ones said as he emerged from the forest. He seemed to be alone, but I sensed he was not. His dark eyes focused on me, filled with joy.“I finally meet her,” he said.I smiled at him, and he returned the gesture before his eyes shifted to the king and queen before us, tied up and gagged.“Oh, a present. I didn’t bring anything for you,” he mocked.“Better work quickly,” Darius informed him. “We’ve given them something calming so they can’t use their powers, but it won’t be long.”“Don’t worry. We’ll
-Katherine-I gathered some guards and went upstairs to locate Silver’s room. Two guards stood there, blocking the door, but with four of my own, I confidently told them to move aside. They exchanged a glance and stepped back, clearly not wanting to engage in a fight with me. I smiled, feeling a surge of satisfaction, and pushed the door open.Inside, I heard Silver’s voice, “Acan?”I saw her standing up from the bed, a cup of wine in her hand, with blood smeared across her face. It was clear she had taken some hits.“Katherine…” she whispered.“Hello, Silver.”“W-Why are you here? What happened? Are they gone?” she asked.“No, there are still some left. I’m here to remove the wrong rulers and replace them with the right ones.”“The right… ones?” Silver began piecing it together, then let out a hollow laugh. “You…”“Yes.”“All this time?” she inquired.“That’s what you get for cheating with my husband and killing me,” I snapped.“What?” she inquired, looking confused. “I never touched
-Darius-I looked at my beautiful wife, dressed in our colors, her hair elegantly styled and adorned with a silver crown. She looked incredible, and all I wanted was to forget the party and enjoy her company alone. But I knew tonight was special. So instead, I settled for watching her from afar, taking in the wonderful woman before me.Katherine noticed me in the mirror and smiled. “How are you feeling?” she asked me.“Me? You’re the one who’s pregnant,” I replied with a chuckle. She smiled and nodded, then turned to face me, and I could feel my heart racing. It always did with her, swelling far beyond its normal size. I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her.She looked up at me, her arms encircling my neck. “Yes, but this is a big night.”“It is,” I agreed.“So much will happen. Henry is protected, right?”“He is,” I assured her.“Good, because our entire world will soon change,” she whispered.“I know.”“So how are you feeling?”“Nervous, but determined. If the mob fails,
-Katherine-The next morning, I knew I had to do something I really didn’t want to do, but sometimes we had to sacrifice a little dignity to get what we wanted. I anticipated finding Silver with her ladies, so I headed to the room where they were drinking, eating, and laughing early in the morning. However, as soon as I entered, the room fell silent, and Silver glared at me as I approached. I plastered on a fake smile and walked closer, undeterred by their predatory gazes. I stopped in front of them and bowed my head slightly to show some respect, even though I felt none.“Morning,” I greeted. They didn’t respond, and I understood why.“Can we help you?” Silver spat.“Actually, I wanted to ask you a question,” I admitted, noticing her interest as I feigned vulnerability.“Oh?” she said, sipping her wine.“Well, Acan said I could throw that party, as you remember,” I reminded her.“Yes?”“But as I began planning, I became uncertain about a few things.”“Not surprising. It’s not that eas
-Katherine-Later, Darius and I retreated to our room after spending some time with Acan. I was already in bed when he joined me, pulling me close and kissing the top of my head.“I was a bit worried about being away from you today. I saw you went to the city. How did it go?” he asked.“Perfect.”“Perfect?” He raised an eyebrow.“You have no idea how angry the people are, Darius. They want Acan gone. I can feel it. They just need an opening, a chance, and I’m trying to find one,” I informed him.“Any ideas?”“No, what about you?”We both thought for a long moment as Darius ran his fingers along my arm, caressing me and making me feel calmer.“It was hard,” I finally admitted when neither of us had come up with a plan.“What was?” he inquired.“Listening to all that pain they were experiencing from not having enough money. I can’t believe Acan has been pushing them this hard or hurting them as much as he has. It’s just awful.”“Yes, I noticed how they glared at him as we rode through th
-Katherine-Many people were angry with Acan and Silver. I had brought guards with me to the city, but I spent the day listening to their complaints. I wanted them to feel that they had someone to confide in about their struggles.“We can barely scrape by,” a woman told me, clutching a basket. She looked exhausted and a bit too thin. “After the taxes were raised, all my money went to feeding my kids, and I have nothing left. My husband is dead, so we survive on what I earn washing other people’s clothes.”I knew she didn’t earn much from that work. She lived in a poorer part of the city, and those in higher positions would likely view her as “too dirty” to associate with. So I found a small bag of coins that could sustain her family for weeks. When I offered it, her eyes widened in disbelief.“Take it,” I urged gently. She glanced around to ensure no one noticed her receiving extra money. When she took the bag, she thanked me repeatedly for my kindness.“Your king and queen aren’t taki
-Darius-As Acan and I continued to talk, I noticed that the longer we spoke and the more he drank, the more his guard began to drop. He was slowly letting me back in, and I tried to hide the wicked smile that tugged at my lips.Eventually, though, he grew too tired and announced that he was going to rest but that we would be riding together tomorrow. I told him I couldn’t wait, even though the idea didn’t thrill me at all. Then I finished my drink and walked back to my room, where I found my wife sleeping peacefully. I briefly checked on Henry, who was heavily guarded but also fast asleep. Then I returned to our room, undressed, and joined Katherine in bed. She stirred slightly, moving closer to me before falling back asleep. I held her close and kissed the top of her head, savoring the moment. It reminded me of when we first arrived here. I remembered how we had gotten lost in each other, and the next morning, we realized what had happened—we had become a younger version of ourselves
