Chapter Twenty Nine

I took a deep, shaky breath, unable to stop my gloved hands from shaking violently at what was to come. I stared beyond the tinted windows, my eyes settling on the small chapel a few ft. away where a Catholic hymn was being currently sang, the sadness in every tone and word making the pit in my stomach grow even further.

I felt uncomfortable, completely out of place and yet I knew I had to go. This was the right thing to do, the only thing I could do to pay my last respects to one of the few people who had been willing to help me. He was the only one who took a chance on me and I will forever be grateful for the sacrifice he was willing to make, knowing full well he could lose everything once his family and those around him found out.

"You know we don't have to do this. All you have to do is say you want to leave and we will. You don't have to subject yourself to all this unnecessary stress."
