Alia's first dowery

The dinner was served and everyone enjoyed the meal.Alia and her mother cleared the table and they came to sit in the leaving room afterwards.

Mr.Ouma and mr.Babu were at one side of the leaving room discussing the price fluactuation of agricultural products that had occur recently.lt had affected many farmers in the village. They had yielded a lot of agricultural harvests but the prices of also decreased. This left farmers sad and some lost interest in continuing to go to their gardens. 

And mrs.Ouma her eyes were glued to Alia.The more she looked at her the more she liked the girl. Recently when the women were gathered for their developmental organisation at the village square, they talked about how this Alia was well mannered,calm and sensible compared to her fell teenagers.She recalled every word they talked about her. 

One woman even said; 

lts too bad that my son is five years young than Alia l would have requested for them to be engaged soon. I love that girl. 

One also said; that also reminds me when l was taking my daughter to the hospital.We met many children from school and it had rained to heavily that day.There was this old woman who fell down and no one helped her.l was at a far distance approaching when l saw a girl from the crowd who went to help the woman, l was eager to see who she is. .When l reached at the spot l recognised her Alia from the Babu family.They may be poor bit they are well mannered the woman continued. 

l was really impressed by this girl.She not only helped the old woman to get up,but also cleaned her clothes and sent her home.

Am telling you that this girl is well nartured.

While remembering all this mrs.Ouma felt proud of this girl thus she said Chairman(mr.Ouma)

Lets finalise this its get late.

They all paid attention to her.Alia go and bring coffee.Alia went to the kitchen and brought four dried coffee that were tied in the banana fibres.She gave them to her dad who took it and serve each one four four.

Traditionally this coffee being served this way by the head of the family creates a bond between the two families confirming the relationship. 

After eating Mr.Ouma told Mozey to bring the rings.Mozey got a small box from his pocket and his mother gestured him to start.

He went close to Alia and put a ring on her figure.And Alia was told by her mother to put another ring on him. Thus the engagement finished. 

Alia's mind; Am l going to school with this ring.Hoho how will the students look at me.She was looking at the ring not blinking.

Her mind was cleared when mrs.Ouma said Alia you are still young and l know at school they wont allow you to put that ring on everyday.So wear that ring for four days and remove it.Keep it safe and wear it again when you turn 18.lts of pure gold so it will still look good by then.

Is she a mind reader!Alia questioned herself. Ok aunt l will do just that. She retorted back. 

Then mr.Ouma said Mozey is going abroad after one month so l suggest that you both get to know each other during this period.What do you think mr.Babu?.

lts a good idea chairman and l think Alia will start her holidays tomorrow.said mr.Babu

Ok thats settled then so we may take our leave now.Chairman hurried said. Chairman didnt you forget any thing? Asked mrs.Ouma.

Mr.Ouma said anything like....Oh no l forget how can l do this....

He then got an envelop that looked to be heavy and gave it mr.Babu.This Alia's first dowery.lts seems am getting too old l almost forget it.You are still strong chairman it just happen sometimes to forget.Thank you so much.We are truely humbled.Aliavs dad Mr. Bubu hold the envelope and said.
