Zara's POV
The inside of the mating hall was beautifully decorated. White wild flowers were hanging from the ceiling, and red rose petals were scattered on the floor, creating a beautiful flowery path to the altar. My father made sure that this stunning ceremony would be remembered for years to come. The hall was packed and overcrowded with huge wolves, and there were even wolves standing outside hoping to get a glimpse of the mating proceedings. Levi was anxiously fiddling with his cufflinks as he waited at the altar. Next to him stood his two brothers, Jack and Frank, three years older than him, playing the best-man part. My gaze roamed over Levi. He looked so handsome in his black tuxedo, white dress shirt, black dance shoes, and navy blue bow tie. His golden hair was neatly combed back, and he had a deep and serious frown stuck on his face. He did not seem to be too happy about today, but as my best friend, I knew he wouldn't let me down. On the other side of the altar, my cousins, Jeanie and Sandra, stood, both dressed in navy blue dresses flowing down to the floor. They were each holding a small white bouquet of roses. "Did Janey do Jeanie and Sandra's hair too?" I asked my father. "She sure did," he replied. "I am impressed by her work!" I commented. "So am I," he replied. Levi caught a glimpse of me standing at the entrance, and he stopped fiddling with his cufflinks and froze in place. He blinked a couple of times before his jaw hit the floor. It took him a few seconds before he could fix his composure, and a smile appeared on his lips. "Wow!" he mind-linked. "You look gorgeous!" Levi's facial reaction got a lot of attention, and the whole hall turned to look back at me and my father. My face heated, and I bit my lip. I wasn't used to this kind of attention. "So do you too, handsome," I replied, embarrassed. "I feel kind of honored to be the one standing next to you at the altar," Levi said, a beautiful smile on his lips. My father chuckled next to me, finding the situation humorous. "It seems like no one expected to see you this beautiful," he said proudly. "You should dress up more often." I raised an eyebrow, huffed, and rolled my eyes. It wasn't at all true. I regularly went and dressed up for events. "But you never looked like this!" Kaya mused. "You look amazing! Janey did an excellent job. People will now expect you to look this way more often." "Not going to happen," I replied. The wolf howl marked the start of the proceedings, and my father pulled me forward toward the path to the altar. The moment had come! I would stop at nothing to ensure the safety of my people. My father and I strolled down the path together until the sweetest smell of honey and vanilla attacked my nostrils. I became intoxicated by the aroma and started to move more slowly. The scent was overpowering my senses, and I was dying to have a taste of it! "Mate!" Kaya howled and fought for control. Startled by what she said, my body stiffened, and my heart rate escalated. I was unable to control my breathing. I managed to push her back. "Mate is here!" she grumbled, angrily at me. "Find mate! Find mate now!" Why now? Why here? Why always at the most inconvenient times and places? Was this some kind of fluke or my punishment for deceiving everyone with my plans? "Are you nervous?" My father whispered in my ear. He must have noticed my reaction just a few seconds ago. I looked up at him and shook my head. "No," I lied. I was now beyond the word nervous! "You can always cancel if you are not sure about Beta Levi," he said calmly. That made me smile. My father was always so patient with me. "I know you two have been friends for, like, forever," he continued. "But I never thought that you two would actually go and tie the knot." Neither did I. This subject never even made it onto my personal agenda. "You know," he said, side-glancing at me. "Alpha Noah..." Kaya growled in my mind. Alpha Noah's name only brought her pain and suffering. I would not want to go through that pain with her again. A scene from that night, when Alpha Noah rejected me, flashed through my mind. The rain was pouring down on me, and it was shivering cold outside. The more I ran from the pain, the colder I became—it was the emptyness that Alpha Noah left inside my heart, growing like cancer inside me. Kaya was devastated and even more heartbroken than me. She couldn't understand what he saw in his chosen mate. She was nothing more than an omega. Kaya pleaded with me to give Noah another chance. She begged me to go back and search for him. I sighed, remembering that I had given into her request. We sneaked into the Red Howl Pack and easily found Alpha Noah's chambers. His pack seemed to be laid back, with minimal guards on duty. I could hear him inside his room, grunting and moaning. Someone was with him. Was it her? My heart broke, sending another painful feeling through my body. I knew what it meant, but Kaya refused to give up and leave. She wanted to claim her mate. I closed my eyes and swallowed hard as I slowly pushed the door open. The scent of an unknown she-wolf had already tainted Alpha Noah's intoxicated grassland scent. I wanted to gag and turn around and run away, but Kaya refused. Kaya grabbed control, hearing Alpha Noah moan and grunting even louder. If only I hadn't given into Kaya's request. The banging of the headboard slamming against the wall increased, and Kaya froze. I could feel her heart shattered in a million pieces, yet she did not turn around. She took one more step forward, ignoring the banging of the headboard against the wall. My hands flew to my lips when I saw Alpha Noah's bare back, his pants lying around his ankles and him thrusting into a redheaded girl. She was standing on all fours on the bed with her ass in the air. "Ahh," the girl moaned. "Deeper, Alpha! I want to feel all of you inside me. Please! Please, don't stop! " It wasn't even his chosen mate he was f*cking! Was that how my life would have been? As soon as the thought occurred to me, I immediately dismissed it. "No, I am fine," I said. I assured my father. I was sick of hearing about that foolish, obnoxious wolf who thinks he owns me. After tonight, he would have to move on and find another she-wolf to amuse himself. He had his chance. My father nodded, and we headed forward. My gaze unintentionally moved over the sea of wolves, searching for the person behind the delicious vanilla and honey scent. I could not help but notice Alpha Noah. He and his beta were seated in the third row from the front. His stunning face was contorted with utter fury. "He has some nerve to come to the proceeding!" Kaya growled in my mind. Just the mere thought of having Alpha Noah here in the proceedings angered her. "My father must have invited him," I replied. "And to think I once found him good-looking." "I hope he is not going to do or say something stupid today," Kaya said, the hair on her back raised. "I doubt that my father would allow that," I replied. "My father made sure to put extra precautions in place in case someone tries to sabotage today's proceedings." My father stopped a couple of feet from the altar and Levi came closer, shaking my father's hand. "Look after my daughter. Treat her with love and respect," my father said seriously. "Or else..." Levi's eyes grew wide, his back stiffened, and he shivered and swallowed hard. All the while, I muffled a chuckle behind my hand. Levi had always been very careful of my overprotective father, and I couldn't blame him. I was the only child, not because my parents didn't want more pups, but because my mother lost her ability to conceive more pups due to a rogue attack. My mother was pregnant with me when the attack happened, and my father almost lost us both that night. My father doesn't speak about that night, but my mother told me how painful it was for him to see her on the verge of dying. "Yes, Alpha," Levi said, his voice breaking. "I will take good care of your daughter. You have my word." "You have my blessing," my father said. He nodded, lowered his head, kissed my cheek, and handed me over to Levi. I found the proceedings dragging and boring. I have never been one for long speeches. The elder person who was doing the proceedings was giving us a lecture on how to live our lives as a mated pair, and I wasn't really focusing on any of that. We were not planning to do the deed; I would never expect Levi to go that far. "Why are you not listening to the elder?" Levi mind-linked. "I am," I replied via the mind-linked. "You are not," he argued. "Are you calling me a liar?" I asked, raising a perfectly molded eyebrow and turning my gaze to look at him. "Yes. No. Maybe," he replied. "Which is it?" I mind-linked, shifting my eyebrows together. "I don't know," he mind-linked me, looking down at me. "You seem very distracted. Even more distracted than your normal self." "It is because I am," I replied, turning my attention back to the elder. I couldn't help but wonder to whom that intoxicated scent belonged. I could taste the scent on my tongue, and my mouth watered to have a taste of it. I was even more curious to know from which pack he came. I was dying to know what he looked like. My heart pinched hurtfully inside my chest. So far, he has made no effort to stop the proceedings and claim me. Was he scared, or did he just accept the fact that I had taken a chosen mate? "Why?" Levi asked. "Do you have cold feet?" "No," I said. "But I'm pretty sure that my second chance mate is watching the ceremony." "What?" Levi gasped, making the elder stop talking, and murmurs followed from behind us. That was not the reaction I was hoping for at a time like this! "Is there a problem?" The elder asked, removing his reading glasses and placing them on the podium. "No, no, no," I said, giving Levi the death glare. "Please continue, elder." "Are you sure?" He asked, searching for any traces of dishonesty. "We are sure," I said. "Please continue." "Beta Levi," The elder asked. "Are you fine with proceeding?" Levi opened his mouth, yet he didn't say anything; his gaze slowly shifted toward me. "Levi, don't do this. I beg you, don't you dare say no," I mind-linked him. "Yes, elder," Levi said. "Please proceed." "Very well," the elder said, returning his glasses to his eyes. "Where were we? Ah, yes," the elder said as he continued to search where he stopped. "Zara, I think we should stop the proceedings," Levi linked after a moment. "Your mate will be hurt if we-" "If he really wants me, he can come and claim me right here," I replied. "Oh," Levi said, a naughty smile on his lips. "Cavemen style. You like it rough, huh?" "No," I replied, rolling my eyes. "That way, I would know that he really cares and wants me, but so far, he hasn't made any effort to stop this ceremony." "Maybe he is shy," Levi replied. "I doubt that," I said. "Wolves are not shy about claiming their mate. They make a big fuss about it to ensure that everyone knows that they have found their mate and are now taken." "Maybe he is cautious," Levi commented. "Maybe he was rejected before..." "Maybe," I replied, and a breath escaped my lips. For some reason, this almost felt even worse than Alpha Noah's rejection. ****Nicolas POVBeautiful. When the unknown she-wolf made her way down the aisles toward the altar, that was the only word that had come to mind. Her warm, rich wildflower scent wafted through the air, filling my insides with lust and adoration.I have never seen such a beautiful she-wolf before. It left me in awe.My eyes swept across her flawless, petite, toned physique. Although my massive 6'8 frame would easily overshadow her small frame, she would fit perfectly in my protective arms.I was drawn in like a siren by her gray, storm-clouded eyes. They were calling me to enter the deep, murky waters, where a maze of secrets lay waiting to be discovered. I was driven to pilot that ship, explore every angle, and unravel all the secrets surrounding her.My cock twitched at the sight of her plump, rosy lips, and I let out a loud sigh. I could already feel their sultry kisses dancing over my tender skin as my fingers became entangled in her voluminous, jet-black hair."You are drooling, Alpha
Nicolas POV I was drawn to Zara like a moth to a flame, and I found it merely impossible to move my gaze away and not stare at her.The pull toward her was strong, even stronger than the one I had with Isabella. My mind became foggy, causing me to see and think in ways I had never done before. The call was too strong to ignore.I turned my gaze away to look the other way, just long enough to be able to shake off my dark and evil thoughts. I was already plotting to lure Zara away from her chosen mate and claim her as mine.Unconcerned about the evil that prowled around, Zara and her Beta were idly strolling about, meeting and greeting their guests. Zara's scent wasn't making it any easier, it was lingering in the air all over the hall.My gaze returned to her, and I paused on her red lips. They were starting to part a little, a smile slowly gathering on her lips. I almost laughed out loud when she replied to the Alpha in such an honest manner. The once-haughty Alpha became quiet as hi
Zara's POVIt never occurred to me that a mating ritual could be so demanding. My head spun, my dress felt like it had gained some extra weight every time we met someone new, and my shoes were now genuinely hurting my feet. After tonight, I doubted that I would remember half of these wolves' names or even their faces. Levi and I have been meeting and greeting so many ranks that their faces have begun to blend.I sighed as a lone wolf, maybe 6'7", with green eyes, dark brown hair, and a sharp nose, came from the back of the hall and grinned broadly. He appeared determined to come over and introduce himself."Evening," he said when he got to us, his deep voice chiming in my ears. "My name is Beta Ronan Dangers. I am from the Midnight Moon Pack. My Alpha, Alpha Nicolas Dalton, and I would like to wish you two a very happy and fulfilled life."Levi reached out and shook the wolf's hand. I returned the favor with a modest but genuine smile."Nice to meet you, beta," Levi replied. "It pleas
Zara's POVMy gaze swept over the beautiful wolf. He was the largest wolf I had ever seen; his silver chest seemed to glow in the moonlight, his black fur glittering; he was surrounded by waves of immense power; and his aura made me shudder in my shoes. His golden eyes pierced my soul as he turned to face me."Oh, my goddess," I exclaimed. His golden eyes hypnotized me, and I felt willing to submit to his will and become his willing prisoner."He is so dreamy," Kaya purred. "I think he likes me.""What?" I scowled at Kaya with a huff. "The wolf has not even seen you yet!""He does not need to see me to be able to want me," she mused, drooling everywhere as she f*cked him with her eyes and purred like a love-sick puppy."Heavens!" I hissed. "Restrain yourself! "They are fighting right now."I could not help but feel embarrassed by my wolf's naughty thoughts. She was shameless! "Calm down," Kaya said. "It's an easy win. Just look at how big he is! He can bring Alpha Noah to his knees w
Nicolas POVFor what seemed like the hundredth time this morning, Zara's cute face kept popping into my mind."Something feels off," I murmured to myself. "I should not be affected by the bond anymore. By now, it ought to have been severed. The mating ritual happened nearly a week ago."I sighed with annoyance, set the pen down on my desk, and peered out the window. The memory of meeting Zara held my thoughts captive all the time. Her beauty was even more striking up close. Her perfect skin revealed a subtle glow on her cheeks under the moonlight. Her raven hair shone brilliantly. Her silver eyes looked like mercury flowing around her pupils.I found myself thinking about that evening again."Take the Alpha's hand, Zara," her beta whispered, gesturing to my hand.Zara hesitated, unsure of what to do.I couldn't help but find Zara's expression adorable. Almost like a deer in headlights, she hesitated a great deal to take my hand.Did she feel afraid? Was she afraid of me?A few minutes
Zara's POV"Do you suppose they know?" Levi mind-linked me nervously as we walked into the council meeting room.I was not sure what the urgent meeting was about, and my father did not give me any details when we were told we needed to attend. My eyes swept across the well-known room. I have accompanied my father to a few council meetings before, but this was the first time an urgent meeting was called. The room itself appeared like a courtroom, but it was somewhat scarier due to the lingering scents of strong wolves who had all gathered together. There were forty-five chairs on the panel, arranged in four rows of ten, with a row of five chairs at the top designated for each of the selected Silver Blessed Wolf pack elders. The elders would constantly cast you indignant looks, as though they were trying to figure out if you were lying to them.Even though two Silver Blessed packs had merged years ago, all five seats at the top were always occupied. The fact that one pack had two head s
Nicolas POVThis was big—very big. However, I could not comprehend Alpha Noah's motivation for going to such great lengths to mate with Zara."On what grounds?" Beta Ronan growled loudly beside me, filling the room with silence."He claims to be the rightful next-in-line Alpha of the Silverado Pack," the Elder said. "He will take matters into his own hands if the future Luna does not submit to him by the next moon.""That will be the day!" Ray roared from the back of my mind. "Let me have him! I'll show him where he can shove those threats of his!"Zara tensed up beside me, and I could hear her heart thumping like a bouncing ball against her rib cage. She found that idea offensive. So did I."But Luna Zara is mated," Ronan stated. "Just a few days ago, my Alpha and I attended the ceremony. The majority of the wolves present here today saw the ceremony firsthand.""That is correct," the Elder replied, appearing a little uneasy. "However, Alpha Noah claims that he is her fated mate; th
Zara's POV"Could things possibly get any worse today?" I growled under my breath as I observed my image in the bathroom mirror. To my relief, the room was empty, and I released the breath I had been holding."Zara, what the hell are you thinking?" I questioned myself aloud. "You are going to destroy everything your father and ancestors have worked so hard to achieve."I just could not stand the idea of being mated to Alpha Noah. I did some research on Alpha Noah in the days following Levi's rejection.I did not find anything pleasant at all. I was right when I said he was after my pack purely for power. I could not tell how much of a jerk he was, but it was enough to send me running."You will need to be honest with your dad," Kaya remarked. "He will offer you guidance and support.""But when he finds out we lied about all of this, he is going to lose his sh*t," I shot back, terrified at the thought. The idea of disappointing my father was too much for me to handle. He will be in exc
Nicolas POV"Morning, Alpha," Mariana called from the kitchen as I entered the dining room. "Did you sleep well?""You should rather ask if he slept at all," Ronan chirped teasingly. He was casually sitting at the breakfast table reading the daily newspaper.Ronan's words left me stunned. There was no way that Ronan could have heard us this morning, or did he?Ronan slid the newspaper aside, a wide grin painted on his lips as he slowly raised a taunting eyebrow at me, waiting for my response."I slept fine," I quickly said. "Thanks for asking."Ronan rolled his eyes, chuckled, and straightened the newspaper to continue reading.I took my seat at the table, and Mariana's granddaughter, Amelia, quickly came closer with a pot of coffee."Did Luna enjoy the outing to the waterfall yesterday?" Mariana made small talk as she entered the dining room with our breakfast."She did," I replied, taking a sip of my c
Zara's POVI woke up with the sound of the shower door closing and the shower tap opening, and I lazily stretched my body over the bed.The bed was still warm where Nic lay moments ago, and my gaze shifted to the empty pillow next to me. I could still smell his intoxicating scent on them.A lazy smile crept onto my lips.Last night will be one of the most memorable nights of my life.As anticipated, Nic and I found ourselves engulfed in the midst of the storm. We arrived home completely drenched. My mind strayed, recalling how I trailed Nic during the storm."That was the last thing I hoped would happen," Nic muttered as we reached the porch. "I hate it when we get these unexpected storms."I didn't say anything; I couldn't; my teeth were chattering together, and I was shivering from the cold. My hands were tingling and turning blue, and the rest of my body had lost most of its sensation."Oh, G
Zara's POVAfter spending all day in the gardens, Nic and I headed to the waterfall. At first Nicolas seemed to be a bit tense, but later on he started to relax.I guess he was now certain that the dark figure had disappeared, and I wasn't in danger anymore."Did you enjoy the gardens?" Ronan asked as we stopped on the porch to pick up our lunch. "Not many had the privilege to wander the Alpha's personal garden.""Yes, thank you," I chirped happily. "The garden is spectacular. I especially loved the rose garden. The roses smell so heavenly."Ronan nodded, a grin forming on his lips."Ronan helped me lay out the gardens," Nic interrupted. "He planted most of the rose bushes.""Oh? That's interesting," I replied. "Do you love gardening?""Only for special reasons," Ronan stated, his face turning sad.His statement surprised me, but Ronan quickly recovered."Will you be showing Luna t
Nicolas POVThe soft kiss of the early morning sun on my cheek woke me up."Urgh," I moaned, feeling my back hurt. I must have fallen asleep during the early morning of the night, laying my head on top of the bed.I blinked a couple of times against the bright light, rubbing the spit from my mouth as I tried to get my eyes focused."Morning, Alpha," Ronan said, his lips twisted in a mocking smile. "Did you sleep well?""As well as any other," I lied, compressing a yawn as I shifted my attention to where Zara was lying.I quickly furrowed my brows—she was not there.Did he manage to take her while I was sleeping?I jump to my feet, adrenaline pumping through my veins."Slow down, Alpha," Ronan said, his hands in a defensive motion. "Luna is in the bathroom. She didn't want to wake you."Zara wasn't taken?I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and sank back into the chair.
Zara's POVA deep and lengthy breath escaped Nic's lips, and my attention quickly shifted toward him.If he couldn't see me, how could I possibly calm him down? He was ready to obliterate everything in his path like a hurricane.Nicolas's body suddenly relaxed a bit, and the wind abruptly calmed down a bit.My gaze fixed on the window—the storm was still there, but it seemed to be preparing to destroy. How was Nicolas controlling the weather? Was it because of me—or was it because he knew there was danger roaming around?I placed my hand on top of Nic's, hoping he would be able to feel me, or just maybe he would sense that I was next to him. That's when the strangest thing I have ever seen happened. While Nicolas held my hand, a soft glow appeared between our hands, and I could feel how a warm current—his magic—moved between us.Nicolas stiffened next to me, yet he didn't l
Zara's POV"It's nothing to be too concerned about," the now-familiar husky voice chimed in my ears. The voice belonged to the infirmary doctor, and he was explaining to Nicolas what was wrong with me.I was having some kind of out-of-body experience, standing next to Nicolas, and I wasn't sure how. I was able to observe everything that was going on around me and still feel, smell, and hear everything—as if I were awake. I scrunched my nose in disgust; the distinctive smell of hospital chemicals was burning my sensitive nose, making Kaya whimper.Kaya sounded in distress; it must be because we were inside the infirmary—she hated hospitals."Alpha, I can assure you that Luna Zara will wake up soon," the nurse chirped next to my bed. Her soft flower scent was all over me; she had checked my vitals earlier, and her soft, warm hands were skillful and precise. Now she was fiddling with the annoying beeping heart monitor ne
Nicolas POVIt was way after 9 pm when Ronan and I got back home. The guards quickly spotted us, greeted us, opened the gates, and Ronan drove inside.A mile further down, Ronan took the turn that led to my private home."I am glad that's over," Ronan said as he brought the SUV to a stop in the parking area."I agree," I replied and unbuckled my seat belt."I am hoping that, now that Alpha Noah has no right to Luna Zara, you will bring our new Luna home," Ronan said, searching my gaze.A smile grew on my lips; I knew it wasn't a question, yet I felt I needed to answer him. The pack members have been waiting for a new Luna and an heir."I intend to discuss that with Luna Zara tonight," I answered.Ronan's eyes lit up, and he smiled. I opened the passenger door, got out, and waited for Ronan to drive off.As soon as he was out of sight, I headed toward the front door."I wonder if Zara is still awak
Zara's POVA tremendous sense of anxiety washed over me, and I began to pace the room.My appetite had gone with Mariana's account of events, and I began to fear the worst when she informed me that Nicolas had been called to an emergency council meeting.I didn't want to stay indoors anymore, yet I knew I couldn't just go outside and explore the territory.Mariana looked anxious and confused, as if she didn't know what to do."Luna, please calm down," she pleaded. "I have faith that everything will turn out just fine. Even in death, Alpha would fight.""I know. I know," I sighed as I sank into the chair, letting out a sigh. "However, you are aware of the unpredictable nature of the council, and Alpha Noah is not without his tricks."Carefully, Mariana drew near enough to grasp my hands in hers. There was a great deal of worry in her kind blue eyes. Her momentary reluctance was likely due to her fear that I co
Nicolas POV"It's unbelievable that the council would even consider giving Zara to Alpha Noah," Levi pouted in frustration. His blond hair stood in all directions, and his blue eyes had lost their sparkle. He appeared emotionally spent.Although Levi had been relatively silent during the proceedings, I could tell that he was tense and that the situation was distressing for him. Since Zara is his best friend, and they had a long history together, I could see why."Everything will work out the way it should," Kyle mused as he stroked Levi's shoulder. "Just have faith.""It's difficult to do so when the council could decide against them!" Levi let out a sigh. "All I can hope is that the council will see Alpha Nicholas as her fated mate and realize how much he cares for her. The two are good together. I have never seen Zara this happy before. They belong together."The side of my mouth curled into a gentle smile; I was pleased that Levi liked me.Ronan noticed my smile."How are you takin
