Luca

It has been a little over an hour since guests started arriving at my compound, and I can feel my anxiety levels rising. As someone who values safety and security above all else, the thought of exposing my well-guarded haven to the potential dangers of the mafia way of life is almost too much to bear, which is precisely why no one is allowed in the house, for fear they mark down the blueprint of the house for future reference. As you can imagine, every passing moment feels like an eternity as I weigh the risks and devise a plan to keep everyone who matters to me safe.

As I bask in the warmth of my guests' congratulations on my upcoming nuptials, I can't help but feel a sense of pride welling up within me. Each person who smiles at me and takes a moment to express their admiration for my home fills me with a sense of satisfaction and contentment. Their kind words somehow validate all the hard work and effort I've put into making my life what it is today. And so, as I look around

"Boss?" Niko's voice has me dragging my gaze from the Rossi women back to the place I've taken to standing. I'm now in a position to watch Emma walk to her fate—to me. And I couldn't be happier with the turnout as everyone takes their seat as per the event planner's instructions."Everything secure?" I ask, holding my hands behind my back. I penetrate my guests with a blank stare, ensuring they all know I'm here and I'm watching."Everything's secure; the gates are closed. I also gave Emma your gifts.""Did she like them?" I ask with an arched brow."She called out that you didn't choose them yourself," he smirks."And how would she know that?" I asked, perturbed."I didn't lie," he shrugs."Lucky I have another gift for post-ceremony, then, isn't it?" I roll my eyes, annoyed.Of course, Emma would call out that I never chose those pearls myself.Must she challenge me at every turn of our lives?"She asked me to give you this," Niko surprises me, his fingers passing something into my

EmmaItalian weddings are more for the people than the couple, or that's my summary of today anyway.I've stood beside Luca all evening as people ate and then partied while the music blared only to lower for the speeches that weren't anything special—just a few words wishing us a good marriage and a long reign. A long line of couples queued to talk to us where business deals were appraised or thrown around as some sort of wedding present, which Luca lapped at like a starved man.I'm tired and emotionally worn, yet excited that it's finally time to leave behind everyone else to spend time just Luca and me.Right now, I wonder if a small inconsequential wedding that Luca offered might have been the way to go.His hand has cradled mine all evening, so when he leaves me to speak to Niko, I stand dutifully to the side, yet I can hear his every word. And though I turn to face the small gathering inside the tent, I listen avidly."I want them all off the property by half an hour. The weddin

I can't break my gaze away from him; I can't make myself break this connection he's quietly creating, and as I stand here in this impossibly beautiful but uncomfortable dress, I think I might be suffering from a lack of oxygen."Your gift surprised me," he mumbles, looking down at his hand where the necklace sits. "I can't believe you kept it. I thought you would have forgotten something like this when you packed in a hurry.""I packed nothing, only those sentimental necklaces and bracelets and my photo album of us," I breathe quietly."Why?""The only thing I wanted to take with me was you; I wasn't allowed, so I took the only things I had of you.""I hate that my father had you sent away—.""But...""Hush! I know. Fuck, Emma. I should never have blamed you, but it was easier to hate you when I allowed my mind to convince itself that you were the traitor. I've never loved anyone but you, and it hurts to know you left. For a while there, I thought you might have died, that your father

Luca Can a man pant like a dog? That's what it feels like I'm doing at this very moment as I breathe heavily against Emma's neck. You could say I'm unimpressed with my lack of control, the need to make love and mark Emma having ruled my body way too quickly as I allowed a spontaneous orgasm to wrack my body after weeks of abstaining. But I'm not a man done after one round. Instead, I take the time just to hold Emma's relaxed body to mine, her fingernails scraping against my skull as she hums that sweet lullaby my mother sang to us on many occasions.I can sense her smiling aura, a silent happiness seeping from her every pore as it pours into my own emotions."How are you feeling, Emma?" I ask."Happy...""I mean down here, Emma. Are you sore?""No. I don't think my body has got the memo that it's over; I'm still pulsating with...pleasure."I concur with her musing; her body is still strumming with excitement. It's in the way her legs are shaking. Her eyes laced with passion. And als

"Good morning," Niko interrupts my thoughts."You wanted to see me?" I answer unhappily."Yes, your father has set the ceremony for four nights time. He has requested both yours and Emma's attendance.""You didn't automatically accept?" I ask, sighing as I look at the clock on the wall behind him. It's seven am, and I should be rousing Emma from her post-orgasmic sleep to take her again. Yet, here I am attending this pointless meeting with my number two because of his lack of foresight to accept the invitation to Emma's acceptance ceremony."I did accept, but I must inform you of your last task," Niko grimaces."And what shall that be, praise tell me?""Pierce Addisol, his death is your last commitment before your father agrees to begin the passing of his title.""He wants me to kill the head of the New York syndicate?""He's being trialled for unknown reasons; his death is cleaner than the possibility of his mouth running wild.""And he wants this done within the next three nights?"

LucaI grab for Emma as she squeals like a teenage girl again. We're running through the gardens outside the house. The breeze whips her hair around me as I turn her around to kiss her as the need overtakes me. Our lips move upon one another in a rush, neither of us being able to let the other go as she giggles, and I groan deep in my throat. This morning is all but forgotten, and I've heard nothing from Niko concerning whether my father has demanded I must do as I'm told regarding the charge of not but one but two men. That didn't slip my notice, Niko's cheeky slip that there was another's death left in my hands upon ridding the most known ruler of one of the biggest New York syndicates.Pierce Addisol is an American gang member turned ruler known for his smuggling and heavy-handed punishments that he metes out without due reasoning. For this reason, he's been on my father's shit list for some time, and though he holds secrets we never want to get out, a truce has always been adhe

Emma's movement snaps me out of the memory. Yes, you could say I've been putting off that dire conversation for fear that our wedding day was ruined before it even happened. "Shall we join them?" Emma asks me, breaking away from our kiss, facing the house and our men training."It's our honeymoon; there's no need to train.""Perhaps I want to, Luca. I enjoy it," she tells me, dropping my hand as she walks towards the house and our men.I smirk, shaking my head that she seems just as unable to turn off that side of her. But in honesty, her need to train has me worried also. What does she think will happen? Why does she need to train anyway? It's not as if her father intends for her to take over the Rossi name, which is just another thing I need to investigate. "Emma!""Yes, Luca?" She turns to face me, continuing to walk backwards effortlessly. "Are you afraid to lose again?""Oh, Bambina, all bets are off now that I own your body. Didn't you know? EmmaFour days have passed by in utter bliss, and even as I stare at Luca sleeping beside me this morning, I still feel the need to pinch myself at the thought that, one, we're married, and two, it seems to be blissful. He's stayed in bed with me the last three mornings, sleeping far past his usual six am wake up, and I know I should be honoured that he's taking this time to be with me, but I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. The fear I have is palpable. Being in the mafia makes me cognisant that bliss isn't a thing, and yet here we are blissfully happy with one another.Reaching to stroke his cheek, I can't help but smile. The skin there is prickly with the four-day-old beard growth, which funnily enough suits him, and I've told him as much, and he's agreed to keep it if that's what I want. He's been so amenable that it's unreal, yet I don't fully trust anything he's said and done because all I can ask is, why?Despite our marriage being typically normal, things in the mafia don

"Wait. What? Does Luca know?" I ask quietly, trying to keep my worry from being evident."No, I haven't told him. These are your results, Mrs. Moretta, not his.""If he knows, it'll worry him. What do the blood results mean? The milli—whatever it was.""I understand your concern, Mrs. Moretta. Your child is his heir, remember? Your HCG levels suggest you are very early on, four or five weeks perhaps. It would be premature to perform a scan at this stage as there will likely be nothing to see. So I'd suggest waiting another fornight. However, we've caught your vitamin deficiencies early, so my chosen treatment will be very effective.""Right, the vitamins, they'll address the deficiencies completely?""Yes, they are easily manageable with the prescribed treatment.""Well, that's something. Can you send the prescription to the same pharmacist?""Of course, it'll be there momentarily for Niko to collect.""Thank you.""My pleasure, Mrs. Moretta. And congratulations, you must be so excited

EmmaIt's two in the morning, and I find myself standing in Luca's office just before the break of dawn. Startled from my sleep, he pulled me from our bed to attend an urgent meeting he called in the dead of night.Niko and Mass are seated across from us, their expressions mirroring my own alarm at being summoned at such an ungodly hour."What the fuck is this?" Niko shoots a sharp, skeptical look across to Luca, his evident disdain for his boss simmering just below the surface."It appears my wife desires her sister to depart, and I wholeheartedly concur regarding the timing. I require you to escort her," Luca reluctantly discloses.I'm feeling quite bewildered. Why would he choose to send Niko, of all people, to accompany me to my father's estate when he poses a more significant threat to my safety than Bianca does? Niko glares at Luca, clarifying that he does not appreciate his boss."Luca," I started to say."Uh-ah, Emma. I'll help with this unexpected delivery, but it will be don

"Luca, you're hurting her," I tell him imploringly. "Let her go.""She can get out of it," he fires back immediately, but his eyes change. They're not dark orbs of evil as they were only moments before. Now, they're soft, an emotion he seems to reserve for me, even if his actions fail to mirror his internal feelings."Can't you, Bianca?" Luca asks her teasingly. She grits her teeth, batting his arm away before using her elbow to hit him in the stomach. She has him falling to his knees with a knee to his groin. And it's then I see his hatred for her again. Why does he hate her? "See, no harm," he tells me angrily. My eyes bounce between them, and I know then I need to get her away from here where she'll be safe."Bianca?" I call anxiously."Just training, Emm," she lies, smiling to me. But I can tell it's fake, and there's definitely an element of needing to escape in her eyes.Luca grabs for her, pulling her to him as he settles her under his arm. He's still livid but puts on a show

EmmaMy heart wasbeating in my throat when I woke up to no Luca beside me. After last night, I thought he might sleep in with me.Rolling to my side, I see the clock reads seven-thirty. It's late, yet I'm bone tired and ache like hell.Sitting up, I find Niko sitting in the armchair, watching me intently as he leans back in the chair with his legs spread. Both elbows are on the armrests, his fingers pressed to his lips."Niko," I fright, holding my chest that hurts with how rapidly the beat of my heart is racing."I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," he shrugs. "Are you okay? I know you said you were yesterday, but Luca's not here now; you don't have to lie," he exclaims calmly."I'm fine, Niko... just as I had said yesterday.""Good, that's good," he trails off.Cinching the bedsheet against me, I do nothing but stare at him as he stares back. Something in his eyes seems depleted, as if he's received some bad news that's set him off to hate life today.I want to ask him about it,

Despite wanting nothing more than to climb back in bed with Emma, I chose to stop by the garden, where our men are training with one another, as I would expect them to.I noted them as I walked down the hall, stopping to stare out the window as I marvelled at how good they were becoming in hand-to-hand combat. I have Emma to thank for that. Just when I thought they couldn't improve, she showed up to prove me wrong.Backtracking through the house, I chose to stand off to the side and watch in the shadows, not really piquing anyone's interest nor imposing on their training session. My pain threshold would not hold up anyway.I'm disgusted to say after a while; I find Bianca in the thick of my men doing precisely what Emma might have been doing if she weren't in bed, exhausted from the last few days of hell. She, too, moves just as fluidly as Emma does, leaving me with no doubt that they were trained by the same person. I find myself hovering closer to marvel at the fact that though even

LucaI should have immediately gotten up last night to see what the fuck Bianca was up to, but I couldn't give up the chance to hold Emma close after we finally broke the fucking ice that was dividing us.So I held Emma until she fell asleep, and then I rolled her onto the mattress, spooning her until sleep also took me. But a gut feeling woke me early in the morning as if someone was watching us.Emma was still snuggly held to my body when my eyes flew open, her head under my chin as I breathed her in.The clock on her bedside table read three thirty, yet despite the muted light it gave warding off the pitch darkness, I swear I could have seen someone sitting in the armchair looking back at me.I squinted for a few moments hoping my eyesight would adjust to reveal who it was, but it was far too dark to see who dared to sit in my room whilst I slept, but in honesty, I had an inkling who the fuck it might be. Call it intuition, or let's admit that the hairs on the back of my fucking ne

Looking between her and the doctor, I move without hesitation, sitting before him as he smirks."Do you hurt anywhere, in particular, Mr Moretta?" He asks me."No—.""He hurts," Emma overtalks me."Where?" he asks me. For a long moment, I choose to be quiet, contemplating standing up and refusing to be seen at all. But with Emma standing right there behind him, arms crossed, her bottom lip trapped as she bites down on it, makes me second-guess my choice."Chest," I reveal reluctantly."I'd like to have a look. Can you take off your upper clothing, please?"Gritting my teeth, having noted Emma floating closer, I do as he asks. Usually, I would ignore my injuries and allow them to heal on their own, but Emma feels the need to ensure my safety.I shrug off my ruined blazer and the shirt that's ripped in several places, dropping them on the floor carelessly. They'll go in the bin, anyway."Ah," the doctor hums whilst Emma gasps aloud.I haven't looked at myself, but from the sounds of it,

LucaEmma has me rendered speechless as she firmly chastises the men who are put in place to protect us at all times, no matter the cost. To say I'm not sad to see that she admonishes Niko would be honest. And what's more, she demands they all leave my office, leaving me alone with her after her shining ability to rule our men as their queen for the first time.I had expected her to retire to Niko's bedroom the moment we stepped foot in the house, as she has done the last few days, but not today. Today, she chose me, and I'm not stupid enough to ignore that fact. I'll be sure to revel in any and all attention she designates for me. Trauma can do that, bringing people together over mutual experiences, and today, our ordeal has been more than horrific and most definitely unexpected.Honestly, I want to lay her back into our bed and fall beside her to lie in content silence. My mind can stop racing, and I can just enjoy her company by touching her in as many places as I can."Let's get y
