Lily's POV
"It's one of my favorite places here and I love it." Stella said, leading me on the street.
I was walking beside her as we left the library, where she had asked me to be this morning. We were hopefully about to reach the place she had been constantly bickering about.
I couldn't help but notice the cold breeze today. The clouds looked like they might burst any moment. It had been like this the past few weeks, raining frequently.
I wrapped my arms around my peach sweater. I had chosen a casual wear, my peach sweater, jeans and my sneakers. I would've pulled a hoodie over myself but I'm not sure Stella would've taken me along that way. She was that kind of person who didn't go around anywhere without her heels.
"Believe me, the croissants there are just amazing!" She continued.
I hadn't slept much last night. My mind had been filled up with thousands of those questions and disturbing thoughts. I wanted grandpa to be fine. I wanted my family back again.
I wasn't paying much attention to Stella until she stopped. For a moment, I thought she kind of noticed that I wasn't listening to her until I realized how we had stopped in front of a French Bakery.
It looked like a nice, cozy shop. With twinkling lights decorated at it's entrance and Bakes 'N
Shakes written on the top with bold letters.I went ahead with Stella inside the shop. A melodious bell chimed as we entered. From the inside, it was actually like a cafe. With smooth white tables and a whole breakfast atmosphere. The aroma was mouthwatering. Believe me, it took everything in me not to run over and devour all those yummy pancakes.
I was taking the whole place in when Stella squealed, "Steph!"
I turned around, expecting to see a woman, but all I saw was a man probably in his thirties. His eyes crinkled up at the corners as he smiled. It seemed like a contagious smile, because soon my mouth was curving into one too.
"Stella, so good to see you." He said warmly.
She went ahead and hugged him while I stood where I was. Stella was like that. She got along with almost everyone.
"No time for talks, Steph. I've got my bestfriend here and she needs a job. Can you arrange something for her?" She asked.
I looked at her then at him.
He raised his eyebrows, a small laugh bubbling out of him. "Alright, alright. But where did your manners go?" I warmed up at the slight hint of a French accent in his voice.
"Right." She rolled her eyes before coming beside me. "This is Lily and Lily, this is Steph. My favorite baker in New York city."
Steph, as she had named, came closer and smacked Stella on the head playfully.
"It's Steve actually." He corrected with another smile.
No wonder.

"So, you need a job. I think I can arrange that. Cash register or taking the orders?" He asked, looking at me.
To be honest, I was happy in this atmosphere. Steve was a really good person. You wouldn't find people just offering you jobs here in New York and I was really grateful for that.
Before I could've replied, Stella bursted in, "Yes! Lily will take the orders. She'll look awesome in the staff uniform."
I shrugged in response. Anything was fine with me. All I needed was a job. And hopefully, enough money to get done with grandpa's treatment.
"Okay then, when do you want to start your job?" Steve asked, walking over towards one of the countertops.
"If the shop's opening now, maybe I can start it right now." I suggested. "Stella can help me too."
Stella perked up at that. "Of course, of course."
Steve stood up and laughed before motioning us to go inside and change.

The uniform was a peach shirt with white stripes and your basic jeans. I didn't even notice the difference in it and my clothes. Stella, on the other hand, was beyond excited. I really wouldn't be surprised to see her happy even in trash bags.
"Alright, people are coming up and we have some work to do." Steve ushered us outside, back in the café.
I followed Stella to see three people already seated on the tables. This was about to get busy. It might even be fun.
I plastered a smile on my face and went ahead with a booklet and a pen. Stella had already gone over to the othet one. I wasn't sure if she was taking orders or flirting. But then again, she didn't need this job.
I was the one who needed this job.
I went ahead and took the order from the woman. She ordered a croissant and a cup of coffee. Just as I was done with taking the order, Steve motioned me to come towards him.
I went towards him.
"I know you are confused. Take orders and bring the slips right here. The cooks right there will be making them, alright?" He asked.
I nodded, tearing the paper and slipping it onto the cook's counter.
"Okay." I said, keeping in mind all that he had said.
That's when my phone rang.
Grandma.
I hadn't told her where I was going. I hadn't even told her that I was going out. I hadn't known what to say. Not thinking about it, I quickly answered the call.
"Lily? Where are you?" I heard her voice. She was probably worried. And I couldn't exactly blame her.
"Grandma, I'm out with Stella right now. I'll be back in a while, okay?" I replied quickly once I saw Steve motioning for me to go to the next customer.
Somehow, grandma ended the call. Though I knew she wasn't satisfied, but I really didn't want to lose my job just when I got it.
I was just keeping my phone back in my pocket when I heard the melodious bell chime again.
Another customer.
I turned around abruptly, almost slamming into the guy in front of me. My eyes instinctively flew over to his and I found myself looking into blue one. My breath hitched midway in my throat as I looked in them. It was as if a sense of déjà vu hit me right at that spot.
As if I had seen him before.
But that couldn't have been right. My mind was probably playing tricks with me.
I blinked, breaking the eye contact. Taking a small step back, I couldn't help but notice him all.
Wow.
That was the first word that came in my mind.
His brown hair were tousled like crazy and his grey shirt was slightly sticking to his body, as if he had jogged all the way to here. But that didn't make him seem bad at all.
What was I even saying?
I was still staring at him when I realized that he was actually staring back at me too. A sudden chill went up my body as I forced my eyes away from his.
I never liked people staring me back.
"Good Morning, Mr Morwood." Steve came beside me.
I have most definitely heard that name before.
"Good morning, Steve." He directed a small smile towards Steve and once again, it felt extremely hard keeping my eyes off him.
I was so weird.
He turned around and walked to the table at the corner. I looked at him as he sat down, taking his phone out and getting busy with it. A small frown formed on my forehead.
I think I know him.
Before he could've caught me staring at him again, I sighed and turned away. I should probably not do this here.
"Go and take his order." Steve hissed, waving me off in his direction.
But saying no to Steve seemed a little hard. He'd probably ask me to leave this job next. I looked around, trying to search for Stella. But for some reason, she wasn't anywhere in sight.
Did she ditch me?
Inhaling deepky, i picked up the booklet and went over towards the blue eyed guy. He didn't look up from his phone.
I flipped a new page and asked, "Your order?"
He looked up at me, a little startled. That just made me look back at him. And oh, God.
Where the heck was Stella?
"A latte." He said in a curt voice.
It slightly ran shivers up my spine. Again.
Why did I have a feeling that I've seen him before?
I noted it down and noticed my phone was vibrating again. It must be someone other than Grandma. Why would she be calling me again?
I took my phone out and saw Grandma written over it.
Why was she calling again? Did she really want Steve to throw me out of my first ever job? But then again, she didn't know I was here.
"Hello?" I answered with a frown.
Grandma, on the other side, was frantic.
"Lily, the doctor, he said that he moved. He slightly made a movement." She said, her voice full of hope.
I wasn't frowning anymore. Anybody could've seen the relief on my face.
Grandpa made a movement?
"Wait right there." I wasn't surprised at my trembling voice.
I ended the call almost abruptly and unconsciously slammed my booklet on table. I would've apologised for my sudden actions but all I could do at that moment was look around for Steve. I couldn't find him anywhere between the rush of customers that weren't even here before.
Without waiting for another second, I ran towards the exit. I should've told Steve but he was nowhere in sight. And if grandpa was fine, what was the point of the job anyways?
"Lily! Wait, where are you going?" Stella asked, running after me.
I quickly turned towards her.
"I-I need to go right now. Please cover up for me?" I pleaded and turned to catch a cab.
She hesitated for a minute but nodded anyways. I knew how it wasn't right for me to just runaway at my first day of the job. It was highly unbelievable. But nothing was quite believable in my life anymore.
I sat down in the cab and headed for the hospital.
What if Grandpa woke up?
I closed my eyes and tried to level my breathing as I waited for the hospital to arrive.
Lily's POVI was wide awake. Laying on my bed and looking up at the ceiling. At our family. Mom, Dad and me.I still remembered that day when we had taken that picture. We had gone off to the beach and stayed in one of the cabins there. I still remembered when a crab had bitten my finger and I had cried. And I still remembered how my mother had shushed me and how my father had bought me a stick of candy floss to make me smile. That crab bite had hurt a lot. Stupid crab.A smile crept up on my face. Even if the crab bite was painful, it was still the best day. And then mom had asked a random girl to take our picture. Mom and Dad were looking in the camera, while I was looking at them.I had only been four back then. Just four and so young.I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.I hadn't known if I should've gone back to the bakery. I wasn't even sure if Steve would've wanted me back again after my sudden outburst yesterday. I had just ran off, without giving him any explanation. And
Lily's POV"Here you go." I directed a small smile towards the lady before placing her order on her table.Phew. This shit was hard.It was quite a lot of hard work. Especially when you had to go from one table to another in just a second. Or sometimes, even in a mini second.I pulled back a strand of my hair away from my face. I'm sure I looked like a total mess. I had told grandma about my job in the morning. Of course, she hadn't looked anywhere near pleased with it. But I had to do this. I needed to help grandpa. What I had said was, "It's okay. I want to do it willingly, Grandma. By the way, these vacations are boring me anyways and I don't even find these books interesting nowadays."She had nodded and accepted it all. I knew she wasn't believing me. Especially on the last part about books. She knew how much I adored my books given by Jade. But what's the danger in lying? And lie is always for a reason.I had decided to enjoy these vacations before University started. But then
Lily's POV"Lily." Stella broke the silence before sitting beside me. "What's wrong?"I was sprawled on my bed with a blanket over me. Stella had come over to my house and was now kind of getting annoyed since I wasn't replying to her. At all. I could've lied to her and said that I was sick. Having a fever. Or maybe going through some stress disorder? That wouldn't actually be a lie."I'm having a fever." I murmured, closing my eyes. Two days had passed since I'd eaten anything. At least that's what grandma had said. Which wasn't exactly true. I hadn't gotten out of bed. I hadn't felt like getting out of bed.I was scared."You're such a bad liar. I thought we didn't keep secrets." She frowned. We didn't. But how was I supposed to tell her about Ace? Him and his stupid deal? She'd just blame herself.Maybe I should get over it. Maybe I shouldn't think about it at all.But part of me knew how I couldn't do that. Grandpa wasn't being treated. Days were slowly passing by without him be
Lily's POVThe second I entered my house, all I heard was silence. Where was Grandma?I took off my sneakers and went towards the lounge. I felt guilty for keeping grandma worried. She didn't need this in between all of the stuff that was already happening.Or maybe she wasn't home yet.I was wrong when I went inside the lounge. There they were. Not only Grandma, but Stella too. "Grandma?" I broke the tense silence. Both of their heads whipped in my direction and then, they were rushing towards me."Lily!" Grandma spoke up, relief quite evident in her voice. "Where were you? I've always told you to take your phone with you."I laughed nervously, trying to ignore Stella's glare. Both of them sometimes acted a lot protective. And that did went up to an annoying level."I forgot. But I'm fine. I just lost my way." I said, partly telling the truth. I couldn't have said how three drunk psychos were after me. I was tired and exhausted and I just wanted to sleep.A worried frown formed on
Lily's POVMorning started out pretty badly since Stella decided to drop by my house. Not just that, but she even came up in my room, threatening to spill cold water over my face if I didn't wake up.That was the only reason why I woke up and trudged downstairs with my drowsy state, still in my pajamas.I was so not a morning person. As I moved downstairs, Grandma and Stella were seated around the dining table, waiting for someone. Probably me."What was so important to ruin my sleep? I literally just slept three hours ago." A small groan escaped my lips as I slumped down on the couch. That was the truth. Sleep hadn't come easily last night. Especially since all I could think about was today. And what was about to happen this day.I was scared of leaving my own house. I was scared of leaving my grandparents. "Yeah, we can see that, Lily." Stella eyed me.Something was definitely wrong with them. The tense atmosphere said so. And I was literally tired of facing such kind of atmospher
Ace's POV"I might be busy." I spoke up, dismissing my secretary.I was beyond exhausted and these meetings wouldn't just stop. Walking towards the suite, I realized how Sofia was still walking beside me.Not right now.I dragged a hand over my face, urging myself not to grain out loud. All I wanted was some sleep. At least, one hour."Ace!" She hissed beside me.I barely controlled my annoyance and looked at her. "What is it?""Lily's here." She gestured towards the suite.Lily's here?Dammit! She had to arrive today. How did I forget that?"Right." I nodded slowly, walking ahead more eagerly this time. "You showed her everything?"She nodded, a little too frantically. Meaning she needed to say something else too."And?" I asked."She was asking where you were." She glanced at me, carefully arranging the papers I had given her.She was asking about me?How unusual."I'll see about that." And then I dismissed her too.She nodded and walked the other way, towards the elevator. When I w
Lily's POVAll alone.I was all alone in a dark place. Nothing was there. The darkness was seeping deep into me. I could not hold it much longer. It was suffocating me.Consuming me.I opened my eyes in a sudden jerk. My throat felt dry. Looking around, it took me a whole minute until my vision adjusted. It's fine. It was just a dream. I'm fine.I rubbed my hands over my face and closed my eyes to level my breathing. My throat still felt dry. My insides felt like they were twisting themselves.Water.I needed water.I stood up groggily from the bed and headed outside, opening the door. My head felt light as if I had been dehydrated for days. Frowning I went towards the familiar kitchen when I saw him.Ace.And a part inside me breathed out in relief when I saw him. I hadn't expected to see him here. Not in the morning especially. Since he was always busy with his work. But after that strange dream, I was glad to know that I wasn't alone in this big, empty house.I slowly went over tow
Lily's POVI spent the rest of my life in the library. Almost. It was the only place apart from my room which seemed comfortable enough to roam around. Even if the library was huge, there was this something about the tall shelves filled with books which somehow felt comforting.I didn't actually see anyone here besides me. Which was more than fine.Picking out a random book, I sat down on one of the soft black couches around one corner. The books here were kind of interesting. Historical. Crimes. Psychology. It gave a sort of mysterious aura to this place, confusing me even more.Especially since Ace had indirectly pointed out that I was in danger. He told me not to leave this place by myself. But why?I wasn't in danger my whole life. I never remembered my grandparents ever telling me not to leave the house by myself.Did that mean that I was in danger just because of Ace?I frowned at that, shaking my head slightly. It would be better if I not thinking into this too much. It clearl
Lily's POV: When you decide something special, thinking that it'll surely go right and then it turns out into one of the biggest disasters. Okay, not that big but it gets ruined? How will that feel? Really bad. That's exactly what happened to me. Today was Ace's birthday. I had decided the plan probably weeks before. I had decided to make this day a really special one for him since all he does is well, work. I woke up extra early today. Still when I woke up, Ace had already gone to his work. Sometimes I think how can he even wake up so early? Anyways, that didn't matter. Because today it was best if he kept busy in his work beause I needed everything to be perfect today. Not even one mistake. So, the reason why I sacrificed my sleep this early is because I needed to make a cake. Cake only takes an hour. So why don't I make it later and sleep now? Well, that's because I am not your most perfect cook here. I barely know how to make pancakes. So you might guess what will happen wit
Lily's POV:I picked up the plates as grandma and grandpa went over in their rooms to sleep. Grandma had invited Ace over for dinner today. I had been kind of excited while on the other hand, Ace was making sort of excuses. He was darn nervous. But that hadn't stopped me from dragging him to this dinner.I went over the dishwasher as I felt an arm snaking around my waist. I didn't jump or flinch this time. Because I knew who it was.Things have changed since then. Almost a month had passed since Valtor's death, me getting kidnapped and Ace saving my life. I could never call him my father. Because he couldn't be. A part of me always said that he wasn't my father and this all was some sort of mistake. He had been so cruel.I would usually black out or get serious headaches because of the drug he injected in me. The doctors tried their best to neutralize it, but it still left some side effects. Even if I tried to forget everything that had happened, I would always know that a part of me w
Lily's POV:Beep...beep...beep.I tried opening my eyes but they were stuck. I tried moving my hand but it also wouldn't budge. I felt numb and weak and all my mind was screaming was to sleep. So, I gave away to sleep and everything went blank again. The next time I woke up, my eyes would still not open as if somebody had placed stones on them. I had already slept for I don't know how long. I didn't want to sleep anymore. It was like when you get that feeling of numbness when you wake up after sleeping so long. You can't sit up but you don't want to close your eyes too.I did everything I can to muster up the strength and opened my eyes slowly. It was hard adjusting my vision but soon I saw a white floor above me. No, it was the ceiling. A clear white ceiling.I blinked twice to adjust my vision."She's awake! She's awake!" Somebody squealed from beside me.I slowly turned my head to see Stella, looking at me worriedly. Her eyebrows were scrunched up in concern while she bit her botto
Lily's POV:Once again the door opened with a loud bang as shadows came in inside. I was in the exact same spot, where I had been before, with eyes closed."Wasn't that odd, now? First attacking then leaving all of a sudden?" A manly voice asked with curiosity. That one wasn't Daniel."That isn't odd. Who would give their own life for this slut? That Morwood chickened out." Daniel said with a chuckle.I must admit, that did bring a bit pain in my chest. It almost made me believe that Ace really backed off. But he wouldn't. He had promised me. I just needed to believe in him."Shouldn't she already wake up? I mean, that dose wasn't even that strong." The other person asked. That other person didn't seem to have that rude aura around him. Because he slightly seemed concerned. I felt a slight nudge on my shoulder which I didn't respond to.Why should I wake up when all I would do is watch their dumb faces until the truck stops? But I guess it wasn't a choice. I had to wake up. Daniel nud
Lily's POV:"Ace?" I whispered in his arms.He slightly looked up and nodded questioningly."Please don't leave me this time. I'm scared." I whispered pulling on the chains that were binding my wrists on the wall.Even if it was that dark, it didn't feel dark when he was there. It didn't even feel painful if he was here. He just made it much more easy to bear.He kept his chin on my head and kissed my hair."We'll go through this together, Lily." He murmured in a reassuring voice. That almost reassured me. "You will go, then?" I asked getting scared all of a sudden. He pulled me apart gently and caressed my cheek making me lean onto his touch."I will get you back, Lily." He whispered. At least, he wasn't leaving me for now. I leaned my head against his chest and closed my eyes. It was a dream. I knew that."I will get you back, Lily.".....Thud! Thud!I jerked open my eyes and scrambled over to Ace but found nothing where he was. He wasn't there. It was a dream.I ignored the burni
Ace's POV:"What are you fucking here for?" I shouted at the cowering guard. My head was spinning with anger. If Zack hadn't stopped me, God knows what I would have done to him."Ace, calm down! You aren't going to help things like this." He said pushing me away from the guard. She wasn't there. She wasn't in that room when I got back. Why had I left her alone? Why had I not taken her to a much safer place?"I need to find her. God knows where she would be!" I racked my brain for a solution. The thought of her hurt and alone. That was enough to rise that anger again."Ace, you will find her. Get this all straight, first. This won't be easy, we're handling the biggest gang leader here. At least try to control your anger. It won't help." He said trying to make a point.Anger my foot. Right now all I wanted was to kill that bastard. Shred him into pieces if he even touched her.I won't let that happen."The police is already searching around the area. We will find her." He said moving tow
Lily's POV:The talk with my grandparents had been pretty normal. I told them everything that had happened in the library. They were partly relieved and partly concerned."I'm going to stay with him." I had said. They both had looked at me funnily as if they couldn't believe I was saying that. But in the end, they had accepted. So, here I was, back in the suite, sitting on the familiar couch and talking to Stella."You actually broke up with him when I told you not to?" She asked, probably frowning. Instead of accepting the fact that it's fine now, she was still stuck on that same spot. That's how she is."Sorta." I said apologetically.I was probably expecting one of her long speeches."Never mind, who cares? The thing is I'm happy you both are fine. Do you know what that means?" She asked excitedly.I was partly relieved that I got no lectures."What?" I asked curiously."We could go on double dates." She said, probably jumping.I rolled my eyes pathetically. She sounded more excite
Lily's POV:The first time I woke up, it was around 3 am. I looked around adjusting my vision until I saw who was in front of me. I don't know why, but every limb of mine blew out a sigh in relief when I saw his face. Maybe because a part of me thought that he would go away. But he didn't, which was good.I placed my fingertips on his face before moving them up in his hair, enjoying the feel of it. He furrowed his eyebrows unconsciously as if tensed about something. How can he possibly be tensed about something when he's sleeping?I smiled and snuggled closer into him, placing my head on his chest as he tightened his arms around me. I closed my eyes with the comforting sound of him breathing just beside me.The next time I woke up, it was pretty much the morning. And this time, Ace was all wide awake, tracing small circles on my back. I pulled away a little and looked up at him. He stared back at me, his eyes shining like he just saw something precious."I thought you weren't gonna wa
Lily's POV:I've always thought, I knew everything about my life. I thought, I knew my parents. I thought, my life was no more than an average teenager's life. But it wasn't. I knew nothing about it. I knew nothing about my own parents. All I knew was a joke, a lie for me.I leaned my head on the window of the car, Ace made me sit in. After the incident in the library, I felt pretty numb and useless. When he had taken me out from there, I'd reluctantly followed."Where do you want to go?" He asked, staring at me. I looked at the green shrubs cornering the library and thought for a while. If only I could go back in time. If only I could've done something."I don't want to go anywhere." I whispered.I wanted to jump off a cliff and drown at the same time. I had no idea what I would do now.He nodded slightly and started driving. The silence was somewhat comfortable as cool air hit my face.Would I ever feel the same again, now that I know my memory was wiped off? Would I ever feel happ
