Chapter 40: Visiting the King of Rogues

2024-10-29 19:42:56Jamie and Raoul headed into the city to meet the King of Rogues. Raoul was obviously slightly nervous about the visit. Jamie, on the other hand, was excited. She loved the bustle, smells and colours of the city. As Jamie was trying to cast them all to memory, as Roaul guided her to a tavern called The Cat’s Claw.
Jamie walked into the Tavern and it reminded her of The Crone’s Head, except there were far more decorations on the walls and doors leading off to smaller rooms. The Tavern was full of punters, and there were a couple of barmaids rushing around with jugs of beer. The maids were not scared of slapping the customers if they got too touchy.

Somewhere underground Jamie was slipping in and out of consciousness. She hardly felt the cold anymore and she was so tired. She dreamed of being in Raoul’s arms. "Pathetic! Why do you rely on a man to protect you? You are so weak! You got yourself into this mess, you can get yourself out. Or are you just going to wallow in your own weakness and let this cock scum beat you again?" A cold voice said, inside her head. Just then, she heard the stone slab being moved. Every two hours, the guard would drag her out, beat her and then sling her back into the water dungeon. She had had six beatings so far, and was feeling incredibly weak at this point. Ironically, the cold water had helped with the swelling, but not so much with the broken ribs and the broken nose. The beatings had not been a wasted opportunity.
