Chapter Six

-- Alexander --

Alone in my office, I stared at my phone, wondering if I should text my ex wife or not. A few days had passed since she left me and it felt like a whole month, already. I couldn't seem to get her out of my mind. Was she really gone forever?

Out of frustration, I dropped my phone on my office table and ran my fingers through my blonde hair. For the past few days, I'd been fighting with myself not to text or call her. I had my pride to feed. She was the one who left me. She was the one who cheated on me. Sleeping with other men behind my back for how long now?

And how could I be so foolish to still be thinking about her? Why couldn't I just let her go? Why was I so unwilling to accept what life had given to me? I didn't want to believe that the woman I fell so deeply in love with on the very first day I set my eyes on her, could have never loved me the same way in the first place.

"Alex!" I jumped when I heard a voice in my office. I sat upright and adjusted myself immediately.

"Oh, it's you Lucy. When did you come in?" I asked and noticed an angry look on her face.

"When did I come in? I can't count how many times I had to call your name. What are you thinking about?" She had her hands on her waist, staring at me like I'd done something terribly wrong.

I heaved a long sigh and massaged my temples.

"Don't tell me it's what I'm thinking, Alex. Are you still worrying about Grizelda? That bitch?"

"Don't call her that." I cautioned hastily and felt my own anger rise up.

"Oh, so now you're going to fight me for insulting her?" She came closer but I just shook my head and looked the other way. "She cheated on you and you know that. She didn't even feel remorseful or she would have come back begging. She doesn't love you and maybe she never did."

I clenched my jaw and was tempted to send her out of my office at once. Her words about my ex wife never having feelings for me were the last things I wanted to hear, right now.

"I know there was that time I had left you, too, but it wasn't to cheat on you with other men. You couldn't possibly take care of me at that time, so I had to leave so you could figure out your life first."

"I was still poor when Grizelda was in my life, Lucy."

"But where's she now? See? Of course, she couldn't pretend for long."

"Lucy, I'm a Billionaire. Why would she want to cheat on me because of that?" Which was very true. Why would she cheat on me now if she never did before?

"Maybe she was already cheating on you long before you became who you are, now." She shrugged and I looked at her.

For a while, we both stared at each other until I finally stood up.

"Where are you going?" She asked with shock.

"I don't want to keep having this conversation with you so I'll just stop by somewhere to cool my head."

"Why? Because it's the truth?" I tried to leave, but she grabbed my arm. "I only need to hear one thing from you. Tell me you'll stay for me at least. I need you. There's no one to take care of me and my baby. The man I slept with already left me. I need you to tell me you'll marry me."

"I'm still thinking about it, Lucy. We can't keep lying to my mom that the baby is mine. She'll find out one day."

"No, she won't!" She pleaded with desperation in her eyes. "We'll try our best. Besides it's no mother's joy to find out that her son is impotent. Please, Alex, just hear me out. It's the best thing you'll ever do for her."

"Lying to her?"

"No, protecting her from the biggest heartbreak. And she loves me, too. I know she loves me."

"Fine." I gave up and finally pulled my hand free from her tight grip. "I still need to get out of here for a while and clear my head. Just take care of things for me while I'm gone and call me if there's any emergency."

"And last thing, when Nicholas comes around, tell him not to forget to drop the files I need on my table." Nicholas was my personal assistant and with him, I could trust that things could run perfectly in my company even if I were away for months.

When I was done giving instructions, I took off and drove in my car to the last place I should be. Grizelda's favorite restaurant. I didn't know if it was a stupid decision, but I just wanted to see her from the shadows one last time then I would turn back and never think about her, again for the rest of my life.

There was no assurance that I would meet her there, but I was willing to check. I got down from the car and looked at the big restaurant in front of me.

So this is where she came to spend all my money?

The first person I saw was Mr. Grey and my heart skipped a beat. I watched him majestically step out of his vehicle and walk into the restaurant with his head up high like he owned everything in the world.

"Pftt! Very soon he would be worth nothing in my eyes." I mumbled to myself.

I adjusted my suit and tie and combed my hair back with my fingers then I quickly followed behind him. Soon as I walked into the restaurant, I lost track of him and couldn't find him anywhere again.

"What are you doing?" Startled by the voice behind me, I turned around and found Mr. Grey hovering over me. He was slightly taller and a little bit more built. It made me jealous.

"Oh, Mr Grey. What a coincidence to see you here." I faked a smile to appear composed.

"A coincidence?" He scoffed. "I knew you were trying to follow me, so don't even start shit. How kind of you to still think Grizelda and I are a thing."

The way her name casually rolled out of his mouth made me nauseous. There was no way they wouldn't be a thing if he could say her name like that.

"What's making you still lie to my face, Mr Grey? Don't tell me you're scared of me?" I smirked.

"Me? Sacred of you?" He decided to come closer until our foreheads were almost touching and the little confidence I had almost disappeared into thin air.

I refused to admit that he came off stronger than me and I stood my ground, not moving an inch.

"Let me make this clear, again. If your ex wife and I were a thing, I wouldn't think twice to rub it into your face. But what would an irresponsible fool like you know? You just decided to divorce the poor lady without finding out the truth first. Even though she was most loyal and devoted to you." He said, poking at my chest.

"But you must live with it now because she's gone. And you'll never see her again." He continued.

"What... what does that mean?" I stammered.

"She's out of the country, Mr Kingston. To start a new life where she might meet someone else and get married to him. I hope she meets someone better than you and I hope you never see her, again." He muttered and turned the other way. "Now if you would excuse me, I have responsible people I must attend to at this hour."

I watched him walk away from me and my breathing became more rapid by the second. If what he just said was true then I was a finished man. He was right. I never gave Grizelda the chance to explain or speak that night. What if she was never cheating on me?

I hurried out of the restaurant and pulled out my phone.

"Hello, Mr Kingston." My PI answered on the first ring, making me prouder than I could ever be.

"I want you to find out where my ex wife is right now."

"Right now?"

"Yes! Tell me her location as soon as possible."
