The door pushed open and the girl laying on the bed didn’t as much as turn or look at the young woman that entered carrying a tray of food. Irene sighed and placed the tray on the table, carrying it close to the bed. “Aliyah, hey, it’s time to eat.”
Aliyah didn’t move, didn’t flinch, didn’t blink and didn’t make a sound. Irene sat beside her on the bed, she touched her shoulders with a sigh. “Sweetheart, I can understand what you are going through but that doesn’t mean you should starve yourself. It’s been two months, Aliyah, don’t you think it’s time you come out of your shell? If not for anybody but for the little one growing in your stomach?”
“No one knows what I am going through, so don’t tell me you do,” Aliyah said.
Irene shrugged. “Well, I didn’t lose a mate, no doubt, but I lost a man like a father and as much as it would annoy you, my first love.” She chuckled sadly when the girl granted her a look finally. “You should know Aliyah, Edward may be sassy, strict, tough and every other bad things, but you must admit that it is easy to fall for him when you have his attention. I know to him I can never be any more than a daughter but to me, he was many things. My hero, my protector, my guardian, my first love. And then lastly, my father. When you hold someone so dear, it doesn’t matter if you share a room with him or not or if you are romantically involved with them, it would still cause a heart wrenching pain if you learn of their death. I’m sorry this happened but you have to look at the future, Edward would want you to survive. And talk about your son, you would be welcoming him very soon, do you want him to meet the kind of mother you are portraying now?”
Aliyah closed her eyes and a line of tear rolled down her nose and dropped on the bed. “It’s hard, every day I sleep praying to wake up to find it all a dream.”
“I know, I know sweetheart, we all do,” Irene cooed.
“Why did he have to die? Why did he have to leave me? He promised me he would come back, he promised he would always be here. To look after me, to look after us, why did he fail his promise?”
“He didn’t want to, honey, you know he didn’t. But no one knows the future.”
“You do, Irene, but you hid it from us, if you hadn’t maybe we would have prevented this from happening but no, you hid it from us.”
“I know you blame me Aliyah, and yes, I will accept all the blame. But just because I can get a glimpse of the future doesn’t mean that I would prevent nature from taking it’s place. I didn’t know it was that day when Edward was leaving with Rasmus, you were there when I figured it was that day. And also, just to make sure that I didn’t tamper with nature, my vision had no clear fate, I told you about that.”
Aliyah sniffled and sat up slowly on the bed, her baby bump was clearly visible now and she moved back to lean on the wall. She glanced around at what was her room. There was nothing in it apart from a bed and a table. In two months, they have lived in five different houses in order to escape the demon king and his witches. They stopped bothering about decorating their houses after the third move and only buys the necessary things they need. This one, they only have one cooking pot and a cooker. The plates were counted by their number and that was because, they didn’t want to spend money unnecessarily when they would still leave the house without any of them. “I don’t blame you, Irene, I am just tired of this life. I want to settle, Irene, permanently. It would be somehow if he had to grow in different places, with no actually place to build his childhood memories.”
Irene nodded and caressed her legs under the duvet, “I know sweetheart, I want the same for you and him. And I promise you that we would get there, it would just take us time but we will be there.”
“But when?”
“Soon, my darling, very soon. Now eat okay, you need the strength.” She picked up the food that was just two sandwiches and a cup of milk and handed it to her.
Aliyah took the tray and placed on her laps, picking up the glass of milk, she asked, “where is Sean?”
“He is on night shift tonight.”
With a nod, she took a sip of the milk before picking up a sandwich. “Has he finally convinced Monica to join us?”
Irene sighed and shook her head. “We all agreed having one pregnant wolf in the group is enough. It would be more difficult having to fend for the both of you when we have to make an impromptu move. You know how hard it is on you, then think about her. She neither carries an alpha wolf, nor a second-generation nightwalker, nor even a royal demon, you can imagine how hard it would have been on you if you are not borrowing strength from your pup.”
“I understand,” she finally took a bite of the sandwich. “This is all we got today?”
“You don’t feel like eating it?”
“Not at all.”
“I know, but you have to manage it. We have to limit our exposure in crowded places and you don’t expect a mall to be open till midnight when Rasmus could do a quick run.”
“I wish we can go back to the palace. All those foods there will now be a waste.”
“Don’t we all?” Irene smiled and sighed soon after. “But we know they live there now, so…”
“It’s Edward’s home, I and his son deserve to live there, not running around and taking refuge in crabby places,” she glanced around in disgust. “We don’t deserve this life, Irene, I didn’t sign up for this,” her voice choked. “I didn’t see the demon king as a problem before because I thought Edward…” she sobbed and sniffled, dropping the sandwich back on the plate. “It’s not supposed to be this way.”
“I know,” Irene scooted over to hold her hand, “I know and we will survive it, trust me.”
“We are not supposed to live in hiding, Irene, we did nothing wrong, we are not criminals. And what’s worse? I dragged you and Sean into it. Sean can’t even stay with his mate while she is pregnant for him. There is a hundred percent chance that he is going miss the birth of his pup. Now think about Monica, that poor girl. Her mate is still alive and yet she is living like me, living like he is dead. And you, you can’t even go on your own expenditures, live life like you wanted and possibly fall in love and finally be loved specially. I doomed you with me,” she sobbed. “And I can’t ask you to go because I am selfish.”
“No, no Aliyah, stop.”
“I’m so selfish,” she cried, “but I can’t do it on my own Irene, you know I can’t. I have absolutely no idea how to take care of a baby nightwalker or talk about a demon. I am stuck, Irene, I am stuck living this life alone and it would be so much worse when he would be born. I don’t know what to do Irene, honestly. Every day brings him closer to this world and I am still a novice on how to take care of him. I don’t know what he would be born as, which power he would develop first, I don’t…”
“Aliyah,” A voice called and she looked up at the door. Sean was standing there and he smiled at her softly.
“What are you doing here, aren’t you patrolling?” Irene asked, standing up.
Sean rubbed the back of his neck and walked up to them. “Rasmus heard you two so he came to find me to switch places. He doesn’t mind taking my shift as long as we are able to calm her down,” he nodded at Aliyah. “He also told me the things you said, the ones he heard. Aliyah, Monica understands perfectly, in fact, she wished she can stay with us, I was the one that told her to stay back in the pack. And, nothing, absolutely nothing would make me regret staying by your side. I can always see Monica, with Irene here, I can even be with her during childbirth so you have nothing to worry about. An about the little prince, we are all here, we would figure it out. No matter what power he develops first, we would all be here with him and we will work it out together. About my pup, Monica would join us once she puts to bed, that was the agreement. So, I don’t want you to worry about anything, it would be fine, you will see.”
“Sean is right, as long as we have each other, there is nothing we can’t survive.”
Aliyah sniffled and nodded, however, right before she could speak, her stomach growled and her eyes started turning red. She hissed and shook her head, making Irene jump and rush to her along with Sean. “W-what’s happening?” she asked in a shaky voice.
Sean and Irene glanced a look before they turned to her. “It’s okay, we will figure it out, it’s just a little reaction or something…” Sean was saying when Aliyah growled, shutting him up.
“I’m hungry, Irene, very hungry…” she growled, her eyes now bright red.
“Then eat your food, here, here,” Irene held up a sandwich to her lips and she took a bite only to spit it out soon after. “Aliyah.”
“No, not this,” she yelled. “Thirsty, I am thirsty, give me water.” She said as she climbed out of the bed in lightening speed, shocking the living daylight out of Irene and Sean. She picked up the jug and drank from it but she spat everything out, every droplet of water in her mouth. “Ah,” she growled and turned to Irene then, her eyes going to her neck and she licked her lips.
“Oh my God, Sean,” Irene whispered, now understanding what was going on.
“Stand back,” they heard and turned to see Rasmus. “I had been waiting for this day,” he said and went up to Aliyah. He was holding a dying rabbit with blood dripping on the floor as he walked. “Here you go,” he said, holding up the animal in front of Aliyah who grabbed it from him without a word and started sucking up the dripping blood. Rasmus turned to the shocked man and woman and sighed, “I guess the little prince wants to feed his nightwalker’s part tonight.”
Irene covered Aliyah up with the blanket and sighed. She caressed her head softly and leaned down to kiss her forehead, slowly casting a spell on her to make her sleep better just like she has been doing every night for the past two months.“So now we understand she feeds on blood. Should we be worried about what she would feed on as a demon?” Sean asked.“Not really. Royal blood demons are like the night howlers, they feed on food and only take their demon form when there are irritated or wants to fight,” Rasmus explained.Sean nodded, remembering that night in the palace that Irene was wounded and the rogues were attacking. The form that Edward had taken making him not recognize him initially. He shuddered at the hideous creature; the red face, the extra feet that made him look like a giant and those glowing red eyes. “Ever wondered why he didn’t take his form during that fight?”Irene and Rasmus sighed and Sean knew why. They really can’t understand why Edward never fought the High
“Hey,” Irene sighed just as Rasmus was getting ready. “Be careful, alright?” she handed him a small bottle which he took, his fingers brushing her skin lightly. She glanced down at her feet, hiding the colors that crept on her cheeks. Ever since the fight in the meadow, she and Rasmus had been playing family to hide in the human world while Sean and Aliyah are their children. She doesn’t know if it was her character that was getting to her but she knows for a fact that she had started caring a little too much for the man and also, thinking about him in ways she has never thought of any man but Edward. The problem is that sometimes the man gives her the attitude that he was on the same boat with her and sometimes he doesn’t. She had found herself wishing to have a vision about them to know what the future holds for them but the vision doesn’t work like that.“Thank you and rest assured that I would come back to you,” Rasmus whispered. Her head sprang up and she looked deeply into his b
“High Alpha,” a man bowed in front of Damien and the man sighed.“What is it now?” he asked.“It’s the rogues,” the servant answered.“Again?” Damien asked.“Yes Alpha, and they looked more deranged the more.”Damien sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Any news from the high chiefs?”“Not yet alpha. We have sent ten letters to them upon your request but they have not replied to any.”Damien exhaled. “Malachi is still in mourning for the death of the prince so it’s understandable. Any news about Aliyah?”“Nothing alpha. The witches are also looking for her as well.”“So she has not contacted her parents since then?”“No single news. We have kept close eyes on them and they have never left their pack. The Luna hardly leaves her room in fact and Alpha Alan, although he carries out his alpha duties, he is like a walking corpse.”Damien nodded and waved the man away. He rested his head on his chair’s headrest as he was overcome with thoughts. The witch Melissa had confessed to them
Sean put on his clothes and picked up the bunny he had got in the woods and then walked. He put on the hood of his hoodie with his head bowed and the bunny tucked in his arms. His senses were on high alert and being a wolf, he could hear ten times better than an average human so he focused his attention on whisperings, wanting to know who to avoid and when to start running. Luckily, he got to their neighborhood without being spotted and nothing said about him other than the human wondering what could be his problem. He smiled when he saw the person he was looking for and walked up to her. “Hello Milly.”The little girl turned and on seeing him, she retreated a step back. “My mommy said I should stay away from you.”Sean smiled, “why, did I do anything?”“She said you are strange; your entire family is strange and she said that I should stay away from you.”“Well, you can go back to staying away from me but just give me your attention today, okay?”The girl glanced around them and then
Rasmus was getting ready to leave after waiting in the treasure room for night to fall when he heard a whisper. He leaned closer to the door and placed his hear on it and the whisper came again but he was able to hear what the person was saying. “The dead rogues suggest that he is here.”“Shush,” another voice shunned. “He is a nightwalker, he can hear you, you know.”“But I’m whispering,” the first voice said.“Like whispers are too low for a nightwalker to hear,” the second voice mocked. “Come on, we have to check all the rooms and signaled Melissa about the update while at it. If we are lucky, he can lead us to the princess.” Their footsteps started fading and Rasmus sighed. He had been taken Irene’s potion every hour like she had ordered and he was out now. He had just taken the last drop before he heard the witches and that means that he has an hour to get back to the human realm. The potion hides his scent not make him invisible so that means he has to avoid being spotted by the
“He is not back yet?” Aliyah asked Sean and together, they both glanced at Irene who had been pacing in front of the window for the past five hours.Sean sighed and shook his head. “He said he would be back in the evening and it’s half past ten already. Even if he was afraid of walking under the setting sun —which we know he is not— he should be back by now. I mean, it’s pitch black out there.”“Something is wrong,” Irene said. “I mean, he has never said he would do something and never do it the exact time he said he would.”“Do you think he went back home, you know, the High council?” Aliyah asked and both Sean and Irene glared at her.“Come on Aliyah, cut him some slack,” Sean said.Aliyah raised her hands up while saying, “just saying. I mean, the last time he snuck out like that, someone died,” she shrugged.Irene sighed and shook her head. “I’m going out to look for him.”“Hello, he is a nightwalker, where are you going to look for him?” Aliyah asked.“I’m coming with you,” Sean
Rasmus sighed and opened his eyes, he could still feel the witches spell trying to take over him but he was resisting. The spell wasn’t as strong as it was when they were newly casting it so he knew now that he can go home, hopefully, Irene can save him from it. He had purposely wandered around the human realm, making sure that he wasn’t being followed and he wasn’t being driven home by some power.Getting up from where he lies, he shook his head to shake off the dizziness of the spell and clutching onto his bag, he started walking home. Running now would only make him dizzier and so he refrained from it.Irene hadn’t gone far when she heard Sean and Aliyah calling for her, she was surprised to see them initially but was glad they came out to help, she would love the company a lot. With the street lights on, they didn’t need a touch to see where they were going, not that it would have been a problem for Sean and Aliyah because of their night vision but they all enjoyed the amber glow
A woman walked into a prison and bowed on seeing the man standing there. “I’m sorry for being late,” she bowed.“It’s okay,” Damien shook his head, “the good thing is you are here. Can you take a look at him?”Catherine nodded and walked to one of the cells there. There was a wolf in there, its eyes were white like it has been glazed over with a white paint and spittle drooled from its jaw. One look at it, one would know that it has gone derange but it is not a rogue, after all, everyone knows now that only the rogues look like that. “Another one?”“Sadly yes. And it’s really tiring since nothing has been done about the others. However, I’m surprised that it’s happening here. Yes I have heard the news of the rogues biting and infecting some wolves but it has never happened here, not here.”“It doesn’t matter where it is happening, the most important thing is that we have to find out how to treat them. It’s a surprise since the rogues can shift into their human forms despite being like
Five years later.Asher stood aside with a ball in his hand watching the playing kids. He wanted to join them but he doesn’t know how to. No matter how hard he tried, it was always hard for him to make friends and it was because of his stupid temper. “Hey,” he heard and glanced aside to see Anita, the only one that could stand being close to him without a worry in the world.“Hey,” he muttered, glancing down at his ball.Anita walked up to him and glanced at the children as well, “let’s join them.”“I can’t,” he whispered.“Why?” she asked and when he didn’t answer, she sighed. “Asher, you shouldn’t always be like this. Yes you have a temper but that doesn’t mean you have to shut yourself out. We all have a temper. Yesterday, I bit Loila for taking my candy, my daddy said I should try to control my temper and isn’t it the same thing your mommy tells you?”Asher glanced at the girl, “your daddy really said that?”“Uh-huh. Everyone has their temper and we all have to learn to control it
“Wow, just like that, Eric is now the future beta.”“I know right? But I still think they should have made him alpha. Sean is not that much stronger than him and to think Monica is now going to be my Luna,” Natasha said with a look of disgust.“Greediness is the beginning of a person’s downfall and you my dear is buying a first-class ticket.” Steven said, walking out in front of them, shocking the three girls. “I can see you are the type that likes bullying the weak.”“Future Alpha Steven, what are you doing here?” Natasha asked, surprised to see him.Steven’s eyes flashed blue as he remembered how weak and in pain Vanessa looked that night and he had to force himself to stay in control. “I’m not the type to beat around the bush so I am going to say this really clear. The next time you would raise your hand or hurt my mate intentionally or not, I will be cutting off your fingers and force feeding them on you and should your mate have a say, I will be feeding you his balls as well.”Na
When the ceremony was over, Sean and Steven were the last remaining in the training ground and Steven walked up to the rack of spears and grabbed two, tossing one at Sean who caught it effortlessly with a raised eyebrow. Steven grinned, “now that we are both future alphas, let’s have that spar.”Sean grinned and ran his fingers on his spear and when he looked up, his brown eyes turned blue and Steven’s black ones turned blue as well. They both stared at each other as they walked around, waiting for who to attack first. After a while, Sean did and Steven quickly dodged. They were both light on their feet and fast that it would make anyone watching them dizzy. All that could be heard were the clanging sounds of spear against spear as they were both of equal strength. Steven leapt up to attack but Sean slid on the ground, avoiding the attack and splashing sand on Steven’s eyes, taking that time to hit him on the legs with his spear but Steven instantly healed and turned to him, punching
The resurrection of Aliyah was the topic in everyone’s mouth, from the Demon clan to the Nightwalkers clan and to the Night Howlers clan. Even in the witches coven.Edward had thrown a party that lasted for two weeks in her honor and everyone was more than overjoyed to attend. It was such merriment and for the fact that no one holds grudges against the other again made it even more interesting and heartwarming. The woods were finally at peace and every creature from the biggest to the smallest were happy to see everywhere in calm and harmony.“I can’t believe this, I was saying that your palace was too big for me before and now you made it ten times bigger?” Aliyah said as she pushed open the big doors to Edward’s private living room, where he loved spending his time and reading. “Not everyone can teleport like you and you…” She stopped when she saw the man kneeling in front of here. “What is going on?” She asked, her initial anger totally forgotten.Edward smiled and revealed the rin
Everyone gathered in the garden hushed when they saw the man carrying a woman dressed in white walked out of the door. They had purposely had the burial at night so that Nightwalkers that would love to attend would be able to without worrying about the sun.Edward walked on the aisle that has been carpeted with white roses down to a white coffin with golden embroidery. At the top of the coffin was a statue of a white wolf with the most piercing blue eyes. Haven lived as long as they did, some of them had a good craftsmanship and they have all agreed to make the beautiful coffin for their beautiful queen. No one said anything but there were tears in the Night Howlers eyes as they watched Edward carry Aliyah to the coffin with a stiff face. Everyone present knew that the task was hard for him, after all, he had lived with the corpse for three months now.Scarlet wiped the tears on her cheeks and turned to hug Alan, she couldn’t watch anymore. From the moment she had opened her eyes in t
“No,” Aliyah said, losing her balance that she took a step back. “No, I have to warn them, I have to warn Edward but how?”“I’m sorry Mariah but Edward will have to do this on his own, he will have to protect him alone.”“No,” Aliyah said, her eyes clouded over with tears, “no,” there must be something to do, there must something that I can do, how I can help.”“You have to have faith in your mate and you have to have faith in your son. Mariah, if Asher is raised in love, I believe that he won’t go dark and the love in him will overshadow the darkness. Aspa has hated the Night Howlers and Nightwalkers since I created them. Her reason is because the Almighty did not complain about it despite the fact that the Nightwalkers feeds on human blood. But what she doesn’t know, what she has failed to understand is that the main purpose for their existence is love and the ending purpose is still love. Love is the foundation of Nightwalkers and Night Howlers but love is not the foundation for Gh
“Hello Mariah,” A mystical voice called and the girl lying on the floor opened her eyes. “Long time no see,” the voice smiled.Aliyah sat up on what looked like cloud even though it had a strong floor. She glanced up, the mistiness of her surrounding affected her vision for some seconds before she blinked continuously to adapt her vision. A strong headache overcame her then and she closed her eyes and held her temple as the memories came pouring in like sea. She sighed when it was all over and glanced up once more, “I guess I am bound to meet you once more, Selene.”Selene chuckled and made an appearance before her. “And here I was thinking that it would take another hundred years for you to remember.”Aliyah smiled softly at that and heaved a deep breath, “tell me, Selene, did it work?”“Yes, you not only saved your people, you saved my creation. Thank you, Mariah.”Aliyah glanced at her, squinting her eyes at the bright light that enveloped the woman until she tuned it down. “I am h
“He is coming for us,” Mary shrieked and they all started chanting to create a spell. As they were about to teleport, a fire rope clung onto their legs and with a force, they were pulled and smacked on the hilltop. Looking up, they saw the man hanging midair, his eyes were burning red and he looked nothing like the wailing man a second ago.“Try, but you can never untie that rope,” Edward said, his voice soft and collected like he was just asking about the weather. “And with it attached, I will always find you.”“Perhaps, now is the time brother,” Kaiden said, his eyes shining yellow as he grew extra five feet tall, his face red as he clawed his long and pointed black nails on the rope but like Edward said, it didn’t snap.“Let’s take the fight where there is audience and bigger space,” Edward and in the next second, they all appeared in the center of the space and wolves and nightwalkers screamed, running out of the way. “I regretted killing you the other time, but now I wished I was
Sean held onto Monica as a gust of wind left Edward, pushing past the witches and them as well. He closed his eyes and thought of Aliyah’s face, he could feel that this was the end. Edward would be breaking out of the witches hold really soon and would be massacring everyone. He couldn’t help but blame the High Howlers and High Chiefs, if they hadn’t rushed in killing Edward before, he wouldn’t have woken up to be heartless as he was now and perhaps, he would have understood that whatever Aliyah did, she did it to save her people and his. With two giant strides, Edward smacked a witch out of the formation and the force broke the woman before she even landed on the ground.“Quickly, close the space,” Irene yelled and the two witches standing at the sides hurriedly came closer and held hands. “Let’s raise a shield.” And with that, they all started chanting in an ancient language.Edward growled and targeted another witch, this time, before his hand could touch her, a shield rose and he
