Attacked

ELSA'S POV:

I laid on the bed, counting the seconds, staring blankly at the ceiling. My mind was going back and forth.

I couldn't seem to forget the look Alpha Nathan gave me when he was leaving Ezekiel's room. It was like he knew something.

"I just have to be careful," I mumbled, facing the wall. Restlessness of sorts suddenly set in, causing me to spring to my feet immediately.

Quietly opening the door, I saw the long hallway empty, and I took a deep breath before closing the door and tip-toeing my way out. A breath of fresh air on my skin will do me some good.

I made it past Rue's chambers but halted in my tracks as I heard voices coming from her bedroom. I knew it was bad to eavesdrop, but curiosity got the better of me.

"How come you're suddenly pregnant?" Ezekiel asked, and my heart twitched like I had been pierced with thousands of needles simultaneously. I felt faint.

'RUE IS PREGNANT?'

"You're not seriously asking me that question. You've forgotten how you shot your cum inside me the last night we had sex?" Rue retorted, and the irritation in her voice was evident.

My heart picked a race, and for some reason I felt betrayed. I had no clue why.

"Does this pose an obstacle to my plan?" I wondered to myself as I walked the hallway in silence and out of the building without being noticed.

Regardless of what may happen, Ezekiel has to be mine to achieve my goal.

With such resolve, I wandered into the woods nearby.

After finding a good spot, I settled behind an oak tree.

The night was so beautiful. The sky was clear, the stars shining bright. No clouds whatsoever. The moonlight bathed everything in its pale glow.

There's nothing like it.

My thoughts were interrupted by someone clearing their throat behind me. "Hi," the person said, taking a few steps towards me. It was a lady in her early thirties with blonde hair tied up in a bun. She gave off an evil vibe, but her appearance stated otherwise. I became apprehensive. "Who are you?"

She chuckled and raised her hands in the air. "I'm just passing through the woods when I see you. What is a fragile little you doing out here alone at night?"

I didn't say anything; instead, I looked her in the eye. Her smile fell, and she seemed to realize I was serious about knowing who she was.

"Never mind, I should be going now." She muttered and turned towards her left. I still didn't say anything as I watched her leave.

To say it was kind of creepy to see such a fine face giving off such a vibe.

I huffed, "Did she just call me fragile?"

"I should be going back now." I whispered to no one and began making my way back.

Just a few minutes walk and I hear rastle in the bush nearby. That moment, I regretted all my life decisions. I'm so reckless sometimes that I don't think before doing something. If not, what the hell will I be doing in such a place by this hour?

"Who is there?" My heartbeat was quickening as my muscles tightened around a stick in my hand that I had grabbed.

Suddenly the figure emerged from the underbrush, the woman from earlier, with bows and arrows.

"I'm sorry, darling, but I have been sent to kill you." She smirked, and the arrow nocked, ready to shoot.

"You should have done that without showing your face." I said, having no idea where my bravery came from. I was weak to my bones, so I wouldn't be able to defend myself if I tried.

"It takes a lot of nerves for you to say that. I thought you would cower seeing death staring in your face." She scoffed and let her arrow fly. I dove, but unfortunately, it slashed through my upper arm. My face went pale when I caught the scent in the air.

The arrow had been laced with the deadlier werewolf poison that only takes a few minutes to kill a wolf. It was deadly and highly toxic. My eyes started getting watery, and my vision blurred. My legs gave out beneath me, causing my body to crumple.

She smiled satisfactorily and strengthened her arms. "See you."

"Why?" I forced myself to ask as I struggled with the overwhelming pain escalating through my body, breaking every one of my bones.

Just two days in a row, and an attempt had been made on my life. I was sure I would be dying this time around.

"I have no idea, my darling. Rest in peace."

With that, she kicked my stomach and strolled away casually, like she hadn't left me to die.

Just as I was about to give in to complete darkness, I heard a cracking sound, and right there stood the shadow man from my dream, tossing the heart of the woman to the ground. I saw the woman freeze, blood splitting from her mouth, before she dropped to the ground dead.

I closed my eyes and let the darkness overwhelm me.

*********

"Elsa?" I heard from a distance. It was Ms Bennett's voice. My eyes forced open, but my vision remained blurry for about 30 seconds before my eyes could adjust to the darkness.

"You are awake?"

I looked at her and nodded slowly. My whole body ached, and my head throbbed like I had a fever.

"What happened?" Her question brought back the memories of what had happened in the woods. My eyes shot up in surprise. "I'm alive?"

She looked up at me like I had gone crazy.

"Were you dying before?"

I was confused by her question.

"Anyway, I don't care to know. Obviously, you have sleepwalked." She said through gritted teeth. She was clearly annoyed.

"I was made to watch over you the entire night." She hissed and left, her heels clicking against the floor angrily.

I was lost and dumbfounded.

Did she say I sleep-walked?

I checked my arm where the arrow had slid through, and there was nothing to show that what happened last night was real.

Was I hallucinating?

It couldn't be.

And the shadow man?

The lady had made it clear she was sent to kill me, but why? And how come I didn't die? No one had ever survived from such poison before.

I had so many questions, and from the look of things, I had to look for their answers myself. However, I was sure about one thing: I had been saved by that Shadow Man.
