Ohhh, marking and mating coming soon!
“Are you going to mark me tonight?” Madelyn asks me as soon as we get to our room.I look at her a moment. “Come sit with me," I say and rather than letting her sit in her own chair, I pull her into my lap. I wrap an arm around her waist and take her hand in my free one. This is the moment of truth.I take a deep breath, but then focus on her when I feel her nervousness, her fear that I don’t want to mark her, that maybe I've been putting her off because I had no intention of ever marking her. I quickly put my hands on her face, turning her head so she's looking at me. I am not Alec.“That’s not it at all, Madelyn. I would hope, after everything that we’ve been through here, that you realize that I will never, ever betray you. I will never leave you. I will never want any woman other than you, ever. You are it for me. What you saw was me preparing for YOU to not want this. Because you have to know that once it’s done, that’s it. There is no going back. There is do-over, there is no div
**This is the seventh book in the Guardian's Next Generation series (eleven in the overall Guardian series). References will be made to events that occurred in the other books without specific detail provided here.*As I walk on the sidewalks in the human city where I have an apartment, I think about the last week. It’s been a whirlwind of birthdays, my twin sisters both turned eighteen and then less than a week later, they both had their Luna ceremonies one night apart. They’re mated to the two Alphas that are in an alliance with my oldest brother, Rich. All of the males in my generation are strong Alphas, stronger than most because our mothers are Guardians. The Guardian line travels through the females in the bloodline, and besides my younger sister who is still underage, all of the female Guardians in our generation have found their mates. All the sons of the Guardians in this generation have found their mates as well. Except me.I’m not sure why I haven’t found her. Cohen, one of
How did I ever get myself into his mess? Oh right, I fell for the wrong man. He was so attractive, so charming, until he wasn’t. He was a prince, until he became a nightmare. All those things you worry about as a kid, all the things that go bump in the night, they’re real. Werewolves are real. I know because I’ve been forced to live with them now for several months.Alec was everything a young woman dreams of when she finds ‘the one’. He’s smart, charismatic, and he seemed to really be into me. We dated for a short time, but it was intense. He wanted to be around me all the time and I loved the attention. After a life in foster care, never having anyone who truly cared about me, I fell for it; hook, line, and sinker. In hindsight, he didn’t even have to give me that much attention. I thought he was being gentlemanly not wanting to sleep with me, but it turns out, he never wanted me for sex. He wanted a slave. When he’d ‘confessed’ to being a werewolf, he said he wanted me to know ever
Did he say Guardians? Isn’t that what Alec and his friends were saying before? Something about twins finding their mates? When the man, Cayden, crouches into a fighting stance, I don’t even have to duck to stay hidden behind him. Whether that was intentional on his part or he’s just that tall, I don’t know, but I stay behind him, my hands looping into the back of his pants. If Alec tries to tear me away, at least I have something to hold onto.“We just want the girl, Alpha Cayden. She’s part of our pack and she’s distraught. We need to get her home and take care of her.”Alpha? Oh no!“Distraught…” he says as if he’s rolling the word around in his head but it’s not making sense. “Yeah, I might go with terrified, not distraught, based on her scent. So, I’m guessing that whatever you boys did, she didn’t like it. She’s run from you and now she’s asked for my help. If you know who I am, then you know I won’t say no to helping her or anyone that asks for my assistance,” he growls.I’m not
My little mate is about as skittish as she can be. I’m not sure how she’ll feel about staying in my apartment, but it’s the safest place for her. As much as I want to know about her and what happened to her, I also feel the need to take care of her.‘WE feel the need to take care of her,’ Baron says.Baron has been thrashing in my head ever since that Alpha, his Beta, and the other warriors came charging after our mate. I don’t know why they want her or what they did to her, but I’ll be contacting Rich to find out everything he knows about Alpha Alec. Her stomach hasn’t stopped rumbling and it makes me wonder how long it’s been since she’s eaten. As we wait for the food, I casually look over her body, noticing the bruises, the scrapes, the dried and cracked skin on her fingers and the cracked fingernails with dried blood that look like she’s chewed them down to the quick. All of that is making it harder for me to keep Baron under control and to remain calm. But she’s a human. I need t
I’m not sure why this guy takes me asking him for help so seriously. I asked because I needed to get away from Alec. But he seems to be taking it to mean I need food, clothing, and a place to sleep. I do, but I don’t understand why this guy is making it his problem. He could have let me go after Alpha Alec walked away, but he didn’t.Since I learned my lesson, that trusting werewolves is dangerous to my well-being, I follow the guy, Cayden, when he goes to make a phone call. I hear him talking to others about coming here. I’m already outmatched with this guy, but if he has someone coming to get me, who knows where I’ll end up. It could be worse than what happened with Alpha Alec.I think quickly, rushing into the kitchen as quietly as I can. When I hear him call my name, I lift the pan over my head that was thankfully sitting on the stove. If I can just knock him out, even for a few minutes, I can get away. Once the others arrive, there will be no escape for me. As soon as I see his h
I grind my teeth as my mate breaks down into the most gut-wrenching sobs I’ve ever heard.‘Cayden, who is she?’ my brother asks in the mind link.‘My mate.’He nods, watching his mate and mine.“Come on. Why don’t we go into the other room and relax for a moment. Sometimes Alphas forget what a strong presence they have,” Emlyn says to Madelyn, gently scolding her mate. She turns and gives him a look before leading Madelyn into my bedroom and a moment later, I hear the water turn on.Rich gives her a contrite look before turning to me as they walk into the other room.“What pack?” Rich asks, gesturing for me to sit. “Oh, pizza. I’m starving.”“Help yourself. They’re wings, too,” I say as we sit. “Alpha Alec. Do you know him?”“Hmm,” he says, taking a bite of food as his eyes stare off while he thinks.‘Cayd, did you get her some clothes?’ Emlyn asks in the mind link.I hop up, grabbing the bag and a bottle of water and taking it into the bedroom.I see Madelyn sitting on the side of th
Emlyn’s story is remarkable. Everything she says sounds like it comes out of a fairy tale, well, except the part where Alpha Rich and Cayd’s mother was held by a vampire prince for years, and Emlyn’s mother was ejected from the pack by her father because he didn’t think she had a wolf, or that human hunters came to kill them. None of that sounds like a fairy tale, but the rest of it does.I learned that elves really do exist and one of their friends is the Queen of the Fae. Seriously, all the things that you grow up reading about, the fairy tales and the things that go bump in the night…every one of them really does exist. What I find the most interesting is the history of the Guardians and how, throughout time, they weren’t allowed to be with their fated mates because the Alphas wanted them for power. It wasn’t until their parents’ generation that Guardians were able to be with their fated mates and now, the Guardian line is being passed down genetically through the females. I guess

My mate still has no idea how incredible she is or how much power she has. Thankfully, she uses her powers for good.I tune into her mind as Baron runs. She loves riding on his back and howling with him. When we pass the trench with the giants, she howls at them and they raise their giant fists into the air, pumping in their version of a hello, I guess.Once we’ve passed the trench, the woodland creatures join us and my mate, my wolf, and all the woodland creatures begin howling again. When we get close enough to the castle, I hear Hera, Lily’s wolf, howling a welcome to us and we all howl again. My mate is laughing as Baron slows to a stop, letting her slide off our back. Lily smiles at her as I shift and pull on clothes.“Did you have a nice time?” Lily asks.“We did,” Madelyn says.“You could have told me that you’ve been sparring with Hope much more frequently,” I growl at Lily.“Where’s the fun in that?” Lily asks, unable to hide her smile. I knew she did it on purpose, hoping I’d
The giants are sweet. Okay, they’re a little scary, but I can feel their excitement to have a dragon in their midst again.A dragon. I guess I’ve accepted that I have dragon blood. It’s hard not to here, where everything feels magical and safe and loving. Okay, maybe that’s mostly Cayden that feels that way, but it still adds to the overall magic of Araphyra. When I’m done, Cayd shifts back into Baron and I wave at my new friends, the giants. Then I climb onto Baron’s back and howl. That’s another silly thing that I love doing. Howling with Baron. His answering howl is instantaneous and I grip his fur as he takes off again. This time, there are no woodland creatures flying with us. Cayd mentioned that Hope lives if the taboo land and no fae go there, not even Lucero, who stays back as we run forward. When Baron slows down, it’s eerily quiet. Unlike the woods in Araphyra and even back in Cayd’s family’s pack, the aren’t any sounds in the forest. No birds, no crickets, nothing. Just quie
I can tell that all of this is beginning to overwhelm Madelyn. It was a lot to begin with and it just keeps piling on.“Hey, why don’t we go for a run. We can go see the giants and Hope. Baron would love to run with you on his back again,” I say, watching her face. She might need some rest instead of an invigorating run, but she seems happy with anything that will get us out of this room.I see Buppig and Lily about to argue, but Madelyn has had enough for the day.“Why don’t you two speak to Aolis and Ailduin about what we’ve discussed, get their impressions. Madelyn needs to step away. Remember, she’s learning all of this about herself in just a couple of days. It’s a lot," I tell them.“Of course, Madelyn. You must think I’m a terrible Queen,” Lily says to her.“Not at all. I think you’re everything a queen should be, smart and beautiful and caring,” Madelyn says.Lily smiles. “I can see why King Ailduin was so taken with the dragons. You really do have a pure soul, don't you? Hopef
“This is a lot,” I say, rubbing my eyes. These books are huge. Cayd suggested that I take one and he take one. A lot of what is written in them is the same, it’s about the lineage of the dragon line that goes back for centuries. Both tell stories of how they met the elves, the giants and all of the supernatural creatures, and then it begins talking about the humans. At first, everything went well. Dragons and humans bonded and became the dragons and riders that you read about in fantasy novels. It makes me wonder how many of those books are an accurate or close to accurate description of what life was really like back in those days.It was when they met the humans and began bonding themselves that their stories change. The Falkor line only bonded to women. The were the Guardians of all women, but primarily those who they were bonded to and their daughters. Draches, on the other hand, were the Protectors of men. They only bonded to men and they protected the one they were bonded to and
I watch a series of emotions go over my mate’s face when I tell her that I think she somehow blessed GoldMoon and Lucero with pregnancies. As the last of their kind, there would never be another way to have a next generation of special creatures. Unless my mate could do it.“How would that even work?” she asks.“The magic of dragons,” King Ailduin says, walking into the room with Anastasia. “I think Alpha Cayden might be right. Not only did you bond yourself to him without realizing it, but you saw the plants when you left the forest last night.”“Right, but they were glowing. Lucero and GoldMoon weren’t glowing when I left them,” Madelyn says.“No, but dragon magic always made the world a better place. The air was cleaner, the earth was more fertile and more stable. Things like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions were less frequent than they are now. The earth flourished, bloomed and blossomed anywhere dragons lived. People were healthy and lived good lives, free from disease or crippl
There was no question that Cayden would sleep in the same bed as me last night. And while I appreciate his desire that I know myself before giving myself to him, technically, I already have. That’s what it feels like anyway and it’s what King Ailduin said. But that doesn’t mean that he didn’t want to sleep with me curled in his arms. It’s been a very, very long time since I slept this soundly. I feel safe, warm, and happy curled up with him. Although he did explain that werewolves body heat runs higher than a human’s body temperature, I never got too hot. His body temperature felt perfect to me.I snuggle against him as I wake, feeling his hard length pressing into my back.“How’d you sleep?” he asks, sounding much more awake than someone who just woke up.“Best sleep I’ve had in forever,” I tell him. His arms are stroking my body in a way that has heat pooling in my core. “How long have you been awake.”“A while. I’ve been enjoying having you in my arms, watching you sleep….listening
I love how Madelyn’s body responds to me. Now it’s not just her orgasms, but her body’s light, her dragon’s light, responding to me too.But now, it feels like her light is moving through my body, attaching itself to me. The more I make her come, the brighter her light becomes and the more I feel it sliding through me. It’s addictive and intense and I as my body jerks with the most incredible orgasm I’ve ever had, I understand the feeling that Madelyn was having, the out of body experience where she felt like her soul and her body separated, both floating in the air. The pleasure is beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. Her smell, her taste, her sweet sounds, her mind, and her light encompass me. I’ve never felt more desired, more appreciated, more wanted, or more connected. Her light swirls around my body, wrapping itself around me, binding itself to me. I never want this moment to end, never want to stop feeling this sensation, this closeness to Madelyn. I have no idea what it will
As always, I feel safe in Cayd’s arms. I wasn’t sure what the energy was that I was feeling in the forest, but Cayd seems to understand it. As we watch, I see creatures of all shapes and sizes coming out of the woods, some with wings, some with hooves, some with claws. Some stay in the trees, some stay on the ground, some float in the air nearby, but all of them are watching us.“Watching you,” Cayd says softly in my ear. “Lily’s a werewolf and I’ve been here before. You, however, are new to them and I’m guessing, much like Aolis and Ailduin, they can feel your magic.”“What do they want?” I ask.“I’m sure they’re curious about you.”“Should I say something?” I ask, but it’s GoldMoon who answers, stepping out of the forest.‘They merely want to feel your energy,’ she says in my mind.“Can you hear her?” I ask Cayd.“Yes, she included me in her mind link to you.”“Do I give off a good energy?” I ask.'It’s a beautiful energy. Untainted by the harshness of reality,' Lucero says, coming f
