Chapter 5

She woke up the next day, trying to erase the things that happened in the past few days in her head. Right now, she was in their garden and waters the plant. She heard how someone cleared its throat coming in her direction. It was her dear sister. It was Kate.

When Kate stood beside her, her heart suddenly ached. She couldn't forget how Kate hurt her feelings. She was so loved by her sister but she heard unusual hurtful words from her last day.

“Jelca,” Kate started.

She swallowed and slightly looked in her sister's direction. She saw an awful and regretful expression on Kate's face.

“Kate!” she said.

They just mentioned each other's names but that means a lot. At the end of their misunderstanding they found each other under a heartily embrace.

“I am sorry, Jelca. I should have not said that all,” Kate said after their hug.

“It's alright, Kate. You made the right thing. From the start, I already sensed about all this. The three of you were over protective and authoritarian, and that made me feel conscious about it all. You answered my questions,” she said sincerely.

“I hope that from this moment you will take care of yourself the way we want it to be taken care of, Jelca. Your life is in danger.”

She was aware of what her sister meant. But why was it her who was in danger?

“Kate, I am a wolf too and sooner or later I will be able to live the way you and our parents do. I won't be in danger—”

“Jelca, you are in danger because you are different among us. You are not like us, Jelca,” Kate said.

Jelca threw her hands to the air. “O-On what way? I am a wolf too, Kate. How could it be? How could it be that I am in danger?”

“Your kind is an enemy of us. You are a Royal Heiress of the whole black wolves, Jelca. Your life will be messed up if any of the white ones knew you are alive. We are also doomed if they knew about it, the Alpha of the Midnight Storm Pack will summon us to meet our edge. We are making our best for you to be safe because we love you and we treasure you. Your doom is ours,” Kate responded.

Jelca sighed. After she heard all of that she became more curious about her reality— of who she really was.

She couldn't erase the words that Kate told her in her mind.

It was already afternoon and she remembered the man who wanted to have dinner with her.

Eve kissed the surface of the Earth. She pulled her hair and she faced the mirror inside her room. She prepared herself but was still anxious about her appearance. She wanted to be perfect in the eyes of Mister Wolfords.

Her hair was in a perfect style. Her hair was ponytailed and it made her beautiful face even above perfection. She sprays her body with an aromatic and sweet fragrance perfume. She did all of that yet still uncomfortable and thinks of herself as a mess.

“Darn it! I'm getting nuts over this. What if he's going to be laughing at me because I look so ugly? I have to call Merfie for a rescue!”

She hurried up to reach her bag and her hand swam inside her bag to get her phone.

She copied Merfie's phone number from a piece of paper and she dialed it. It was good because she had an extra phone in her closet.

“Yes? This is your girl, beautiful and sexy, Merfie!” Her friend's way of answering the call made her giggle. “How may I help you anyway?”

“Merfie! It's me, Jelca!”

“Hey, you! You're such a doom if you attend the class next period! Our instructors kept on looking for your presence, Miss Stewart! And damn, I am tired of giving them all the reasons in the world! Where the hell part of Earth did you hide, woman!?”

“Shut your mouth up, psychic! I have news for you and I don't know if it was a shit or a good one!”

She trusts Merfie. Merfie was a friend to her for a long time. She even bestows her a blessing of being her soul sister. She was comfortable in telling all the things to Merfie as her friend is reliable and a good keeper of secrets.

“If it was about you quitting from your part-time job, don't bother, I heard it from your manager because I looked for you last day—”

“I'm having dinner with Mister Wolfords,” she said trying to hide her excitement.

“What!? Wait! What!?” Merfie wants clarification.

She laid herself above her bed. Her lips widened as they revealed her clean and white teeth.

“You heard it right, Merfie!”

“I knew it! You are mated with the Majesty!” Merfie laughed.

They laughed together on the line like they were together. Half of her was happy but half of her was conscious about the prophecy of Merfie before the time she encountered the wolf she called a monster.

“You really are dating that man?” Merfie's voice became serious.

She sighed.

“It's not dating, Merfie. It's just dinner with him. Just dinner.”

“A bachelor and a president of a good university won't invite a college woman for dinner without any reason,” Merfie said.

“Stop teasing me, Merfie! I called you because I guess you will rescue me but I think I was wrong. You added to my tension,” Jelca said.

“Don't worry, Miss Stewart. I'll wait outside the university. Hurry up and I'll drive you to His Majesty,” Merfie claimed.

“Fine. See you.”

She hung up. She stared at the ceiling blankly. She smiled all of a sudden when she imagined how their dinner would be later.

--

A snap of thought visited her mind. What if Mister Wolfords finds out what she really is. Would he still invite her for dinner?

She was with Merfie right now and her friend was driving her off to the restaurant where Mister Wolfords was waiting.

“Look, Jelca, I just told you a prophecy and you even dreamed about this. Isn't it a sign that you will be his Luna?” Merfie said.

Before, when Merfie jokes about Alphas and Lunas, she just laughed out loud. Now, she was frightened and excited at the same time. She was frightened because she knew that Merfie would stay away from her if she told her about herself. She was excited because she was curious about the world where werewolves lived. Her heart is welcoming her other world.

“Jelca, come on, your mind is too far from your body. Are you that nervous to see His Majesty and smell his scent?”

“Stop calling him 'His Majesty', Merfie. There's just a 'wolf' in his surname but he is not. He would be laughing at us if he knew that we do believe that mythological creatures,” Jelca lied.

“We? Oh no, Jelca! Do you also believe about them? I thought you don't believe in werewolves but now— argh— you're telling me that we believe in them!”

“Whatever, Merfie!”

She never entertained Merfie's joke again. Every one of her hair stood up every time she heard about werewolves. She was one of the werewolves and she was told that she was different and in danger. If she could, she would keep herself safe.

Merfie drove for so long and until now they hadn't arrived yet. Jelca looked at her friend who was dancing while driving. The disco music played so loud and her friend doesn't care about her staring as she dances crazily.

Merfie stopped dancing after realizing that Jelca was staring at her. Jelca sighed while looking at how Merfie volume down the music.

“We drove so long. This is crazy. How long do we need to go through to get there?” she asked impatiently.

Merfie laughed at Jelca. “Come on, Miss Stewart. Don't show the obvious. You are too excited to see that man. Don't you?” Merfie rolled her eyes. “God! Even me, if I were you, I would die to see that man.”

She couldn't hide her emotions anymore. She turned red.

“His eyes were amazing and his smell was damn good. I know that I had smelled him before but I wasn't sure when it was. I am damn sure I met Mister Wolfords before but I couldn't figure out where and when. Everything about him was familiar not because he owns the university where I study. He is familiar because my heart says he is,” Jelca said honestly.

Her friend, Merfie listened and she felt how sincere she was. Jelca never had an eye for men but the way she describes Mister Wolfords was proof that someone caught her eyes already.

“You are dead,” Merfie declared.

“Just drive and let me die on my own,” she said smiling.

Miles away from Wolfords University, they finally arrived at the restaurant where Mister Wolfords waited.

Jelca was still anxious about how she looks. She was outside of Merfie's car now. She turned to face Merfie.

“How do I look, Merfie?”

“You are so gorgeous! Give me your palm,” her friend said.

She drew her hand near Merfie. Her hand was shaking. Merfie slid her point finger above Jelca's palm.

“Jelca, whatever happens outside. Don't come out. There's a danger coming,” Merfie said.

The space between her brows narrowed.

“Merfie, stop kidding around,” she said.

“Just do as I said,” Merfie said.

Her mind has propagated to disbelieve Merfie yet she doubted that propaganda because she already proved that Merfie was telling the truth through her prophecies.

“Fine, psychic.”

Merfie just smiled. She turned away and sighed.

Jelca stared directly inside the large and elegant restaurant.

She smiled when she arrived at the entrance.

“A pleasant evening, sir,” she greeted the crew.

“So as for you, ma'am.” The man bowed his head. “Any reservation?”

She looked inside as she didn't have the clue what she would be saying to the man asking her.

“Ma'am?” the man uttered.

She heard someone from behind clearing its throat. She almost collapsed as she saw the one who asked her for this dinner. Mister Wolfords was wearing a suit that fits him. The man was almost a meter away from her but she was able to distinguish his smell— an aromatic scent that caught her soul.

“She was with me but I failed to fetch her earlier,” Mister Wolfords said.

“Mister Wolfords, I'm sorry. I wasn't aware of this. Ma'am, may you forgive me,” said the man.

Jelca nodded. She couldn't say a word. She was feeling comfortably uncomfortable.

Mister Wolfords offered Jelca his arm, so Jelca clung to it even though she hesitated because of nervousness that could not be removed from her heart.

The whole surroundings were very elegant. Their table was at the end and it was obvious that Mister Wolfords had prepared for this night. They were close to the glass wall so Jelca could see her friend Merfie while it was not going anywhere.

Mister Wolfords also supports Jelca to sit down. Jelca could describe Mister Wolfords as not only handsome and aromatic but gentleman. And among the men here, Mister Wolfords is the most perfect.

“You look so beautiful tonight, Miss Stewart,” said Mister Wolfords that caused Jelca to be even more uncomfortable.

“Do not praise me that much, Mister Wolfords. I am a bit embarrassed when somebody praises me. Above all, the one who just praised me a while ago was a successful bachelor and a famous man in town. I-It makes me nervous with no comparison,” she whispered.

Mister Wolfords let go of a small laugh. Jelca smiled but deep down her bones, she was uncomfortable with the man's existence. Her system was troubled and it did want to adore the man in silence. Damn! She was uncomfortable but her system stole a moment to adore Mister Wolfords. She was turning crazier for this man.

“You deserve the praise tonight, Miss Stewart. I hope that you shouldn't be nervous when you are beside me. I'm asking you to be comfortable whenever we are together,” said Mister Wolfords before he signaled the waiter to come to their table.

She swallowed. Mister Wolfords meant his words and if that is so, she was sure that the man would be asking him again for another dinner.

“Mister Wolfords, this is our menu,” informed the waiter.

“Give us the best you could offer.” Mister Wolfords stared at Jelca's way who was fantasising about him without his knowing.

Jelca took her stare and threw it away.

“What do you want, Miss Stewart?” Mister Wolfords asked her in a gentle tone.

“Y-You—”

“Obviously!”

“N-No! That's not what I am trying to say. Ahm. I-I want you to order f-for us since y-you were the one who asked me for dinner,” she said rattling.

Jelca was ashamed because of her mouth. She looked around and realized that their table was the only table that makes loud talk.

“I know, Miss Stewart. I already ordered for us,” Mister Wolfords said.

Jelca was having a hard time smiling but then she managed to give a thrifty smile.

Their food arrived. The waiters served them the famous steak and cocktail in their restaurant. Jelca smiled at the waiters before they left.

“Eat up, Miss Stewart. You won't be full if you just keep on staring everywhere.”

“S-Sorry, Mister Wolfords. L-Let us eat together,” said Jelca.

Both of them took a fork and a knife to slice the steak according to what sizes they pleased it to be.

While having their peace offering dinner, they talked about life. Mister Wolfords asked questions and Jelca answered him as much as she could.

“How about you, Miss Stewart, won't you ask me about things? Am I not an interesting man in your eyes?”

“It is not like that, Mister Wolfords. I-I would rather answer any questions than raise one,” she said.

“I see. But at least, ask me anything,” Mister Wolfords challenged her.

She bit her lower lip. She leaned back slightly and she stared at the man's dazzling eyes.

“Do you somehow believe about werewolves?” she asked from nowhere.

She would like to take back the question but the man cleared his throat and she noticed that he was ready to answer.

“I will answer you the same. It depends on how you look at things. But what if I told you, I am a werewolf, I changed my form from human to wolf, will you believe it, Miss Stewart?”

Jelca found no answer.

“And what if I will tell you about this, I am an Alpha to be and later on my pack would be calling me His Majesty Alpha Bryco Wolfords and I had chosen you the on night before the last one under the bright and full moon as my mate? Would you believe me and accept yourself as the chosen Mate of His Majesty, Miss Stewart? Or you'll end up forsaking me and put my selection on air?”

Jelca's throat became tighter. She was swallowing her natural liquid but she couldn't do it easily.

Mister Wolfords snap and that made Jelca flabbergasted.

“Holy God!”

“Just kidding, Miss Stewart. Don't be too serious about things. Since we are done eating, allow me to respond to my call of nature.”

She nodded and forced a smile. She couldn't believe that Mister Wolfords could be talking about the things Merfie prophesied. It was a joke to the man but for her those things were above the half of reality.

Jelca looked where she left Merfie. She was even more surprised when she saw how three wolves are roaming around the car of Merfie.

Merfie told her about this earlier. Her friend was right. There would be a danger to come. She stood up and never hesitated to leave their table.

She hurried up walking outside. She ran when she saw how the wolves attacked Merfie and took her away with them.

Jelca sighed and closed her eyes. She moved her head and put her arms beside her body. Her body itched and she suddenly became a wolf. She ran after the wolves who took Merfie away.

“Help! Jelca, help!” cried Merfie.

She must help Merfie. She must.
