Dominic immediately walked out of the room, leaving me there, too stunned to move. It was only my first day there, and he wanted me to stay over. Did he even trust me to be staying over? Did he have some evil scheme going on? Was he going to do something to me? I tried to continue cleaning, but each time I moved, I thought of his stupid ‘suggestion’ or ‘idea’. I then thought that maybe if I hurried and tried to finish everything else in about 30 minutes, I would get to go home instead. But I was trapped in his room for the next 20 minutes, first packing everything away and then laying his bed. That night, Dominic had ordered me to sleep in the very dull bedroom. The bed sheets were very itchy and uncomfortable, the pillow was very flat, and the mattress was so solid like I was sleeping on a table. Even my crappy apartment had way better things compared to the torture Dominic put me through. Because I did not have my pyjamas, I had to sleep in my threadbare underwear and wrap myself in the itchy bedding, hoping that if anyone were to randomly walk in, at least they would not see anything. On top of all of that discomfort, my brain was spiralling, still thinking about Ruby’s tiny and nude body, thinking I was Dominic. It was not that traumatising compared to the first time I set foot in this house. But, it was still something you would not want to see after being threatened for sneaking around. I remained seated, watching the mini-drama unfold right in front of me. “Okay, Homer, you need to get working,” Dominic said once he saw my eyes fixated on Ruby and Rebecca. I slowly got off the stool, carried my dirty dishes to the sink and then walked back to the tiny bedroom I was sleeping in. That time, I put my bag against the door so that if any of the perverted guards tried to come in, it would take some time before they finally saw my naked body. I felt dirty dressing up into other clothes without showering over the last 24 hours. But, I did not have much of an option. I knew the best thing to do was to get started on the work so that I could leave early enough and then have a shower at home. It did not make sense. Nothing they were saying made sense. I continued to stand still in the kitchen as I tried to connect the dots. As I continued to process the most probably disturbing information, I heard chairs being pushed around and footsteps. I quickly grabbed the dishcloth and pretended to wipe the surfaces, and then Dominic walked into the kitchen. “Homer, please wash these,” he said as he handed me a saucer with cutlery and a mug. I walked up to him and got the dishes from him, and then turned to the sink. “And be sure not to break any.” He added on in a lower and more intimidating voice. Minutes and what almost felt like hours had gone by with me still standing in the same spot, completely dumbfounded after Dominic proposed the craziest and weirdest scheme. “This house is not going to clean itself, is it?” Rebecca said as she passed by and noticed I had been lifeless for the past few minutes. I still remained frozen. I did not bother moving an inch because whatever was running around in Dominic’s head scared me more than anything. It worried me because he could just keep all the bombshells coming, minute after minute. “If I were you, I would move and continue cleaning before Dom comes back and finds his bedroom still messy,” Rebecca said as she passed by again, this time holding a mug of whatever. I finally shook myself back to reality and decided to move again. I went back to the spot where I had left my cleaning supplies, carried them and walked up the stairs. “Glad to see you’ve joined me,” Stanley said as he wrapped a towel around his waist and stepped out of the shower. “Uhm…” I froze at the door, not sure of what to do next. “Either get undressing and join me or close the door on your way out,” he said with a serious expression on his face.
