The heir of the county seemed irritated with what Charlene called him. He shifted his weight and saw the son of their Beta, Weiss Heran, that is walking by the entrance. Diatrus Kembal knew something was going on between Weiss and Charlene since last semester. People are even whispering about the possible agreement between Charlene’s and Weiss’s families.
‘This is your fault for insulting me, Charlene,’
“Hah! Big word for someone weaker than a werewolf commoner… oh wait, you’re even weaker than a human, isn’t that right?” DIatrus made sure that his voice was loud enough for Weiss to take notice of them.
He glanced at the man and smirked when he saw Weiss walking in their direction. Charlene stays silent, though. She looks at him in silence. Diatrus felt proud as it seemed he hit a sore spot in Charlene’s.
“What? Cat got your tongue, pussy?” People around them laughed with Diatrus, but what followed was running students— hiding students when Weiss held Charlene’s shoulder.
“You don’t have to do this, Weiss,” Charlene brushed off his hands and took a step away from him. Weiss shrugged his shoulders and walked away.
‘As always, you don’t get too involved,’ Charlene stared at his vanishing back and was about to walk to the dormitories when she saw a familiar figure.
The man is laughing with other Lycans as they do their last project in order to graduate from the academy. He’s talking even with other races without much difference from when he speaks with his own kind. Charlene unconsciously found herself staring at the scene where she felt a cumbrous wave inside her.
‘How come I’m starting to notice him now when I have been studying here for years?’
A week has passed since the semester started. Charlene sent her father’s knights away after she settled in the dormitories. No one would really want to be guarded and be labeled as a baby at her age.
She did argue with them a little, but there was nothing the nights could do when Charlene insisted she could handle herself.
Charlene woke up a little earlier than she used to. She prepped herself for the morning classes that would start a few hours from now. When she had nothing more left to do, she went out of her room and was welcomed by a little dark and silent corridor.
Everyone must still be sleeping. It’s either they had hit the bed really late because of academic requirements, or they had too much fun with their friends that they had to stay up all night.
Charlene was neither.
Her stay in this academy was nothing sort of a life experience she needed to treasure. For Charlene, this is just something to let her be free in the future. Something that would add to her validation.
“You’re up early,” Charlene almost jumped when someone suddenly appeared behind her and whispered with a cold voice and warm breath.
“Good Selene! You scared me!”
“Well, do you think the Goddess allowed ghosts to roam around the academy grounds this morning?”
“You are not even funny, you know that? And are we close enough to casually joke around with each other?” Charlene started taking huge strides. Her ears and cheeks are heating up. Her heart is racing as she makes her pace faster.
‘Goodness, that is so embarrassing!’ Charlene screams inside as she feels as if he has followed her. And his gentle and slight steps are making her stomach twist and her tongue itchy.
Charlene stopped walking and faced him. Adhler, the Lycan Prince, was taken off by surprise when Charlene made a sudden stop and accidentally landed his lips on her head.
“Okay, that was unintentional—” Charlene did not let him finish his word and ran away.
“Seriously, why would you suddenly stop like that? Who walks fast and then stops?” the Lycan Prince sighed and stared at Charlene’s figure running with haste. He found himself smiling at her little gestures.
‘Well, you could have at least said hi to me last week,’ the Prince remembered the woman staring at him at the start of the semester. He was waiting for whether she would wave her hand and greet him, but she just walked away as if they did not know each other.
They technically don’t know each other yet besides their names, that is.
“Staring would do you no good, Adhler,”
“Piss off,”
“Not her, man. Don’t get involved with her, don’t get involved with the werewolves at all,” Adhler looked at his friend, Karev, who was staring at him with serious eyes.
“I know you don’t have good memories with the werewolves, but who else doesn’t? We have issues with everyone except our own, Karev. And me getting involved with her is none of your puny business, so piss off before I let the Duke know you’re high on drugs again,” Adhler walked past him.
“Don’t say I never warned you, Adhler. You never know what a werewolf can do. You never know,”
Charlene stared at the professor, lecturing them about the importance of balance between races. Most of the students are hardly listening to him at all. They are simply waiting for the bell to ring so that they can escape this professor’s class.
“Hey, hey, Char,” Charlene glanced at Leila, one of her classmates. “Wanna hang out in our room tonight?” she whispered. Charlene immediately looked back at the professor when she heard that.
A lot of people attempted to approach her, but none had succeeded in really getting Charlene on their boat. She’s a tough nut to crack, and it’s starting to piss off a few of their peers.
“We told you she would decline,”
“Why did you even invite her?”
“She’s no fun, Leila. Stop trying to hang out with her,”
“Don’t get involved with her, Leila,”
Charlene could hear all those whispers followed by anger and insults, but her eyes were set on the professor. She wrote down the important things to note and then stood up when the bell rang.
“You don’t get along with them, I see,”
“I don’t get along with anyone, you see,” Charlene rolled her eyes and left the man standing by the tree. Charlene stopped walking and looked at him again. Adhler raised his brows as if it was a surprise for Charlene to look back.
“And don’t use those damn abilities with me. It pisses me off,”
“Well, it’s not like I did it on purpose. My world is pretty loud, you know. I could even hear your breath from here,” Adhler chuckled, waived his hands, and walked away.
‘Seriously, why is he all over the place?’
"Charlene," the woman froze when the cold voice pierced her being. She stood straight in the hallway, refusing to look back. "Now, you're not even exchanging greetings with me? What is your problem?" "Problem? I have nothing of the sort, Weiss," Charlene looked at him. His forest green eyes are staring into her. Trying to dig up what's buried within her. Charlene looked away. Weiss walked to her and grabbed her by the shoulders. He leaned towards Charlene and whispered. "Meet me under the Goddess's grace," he said and marched away. The Goddess's grace… Charlene could not remember the last time they used the code they had made up when they were little. Charlene stared at his back, reminiscing how small it used to be. Charlene looked away and was surprised by the pair of eyes staring at her. It's cold yet alive. It feels like the cold breeze along the shore on a night walk. It wasn't harsh but comforting. "Care to tell me why I am having the privilege of your attention, Your Hig
"A war of brains will be held in the city next month. Top academies will be participating, and the Celestia Academy — the best, of course, shall be proving once more why we are on top even after a century. So, the topic at hand now is who will be our participants," The whole room roared in excitement after the professor delivered the news. The tournament between different academies within the vicinity is held every year; It is a week-long event that will be held at the center of the city. Streets will be decorated, and folks from neighboring areas will come to visit the festival. After all, the academies will be showing different battles, not just of brains, but of swords and muscles. "Lady Charlene, care to share your thoughts about the trees outside?" Charlene looked at the professor with a flushed face. The other students giggle as it is rare to see the woman spacing out in the four corners of the very room. Charlene had been staring outside but not at the trees. She was star
There are festivals that people are always looking forward to. The dashing days to the blazing nights. The brilliant streets are covered with the colors of the rainbow. Everyone is looking forward to it."I didn't know you fancy this kind of event, brother," Louise steps out of the carriage. The sky is still covered in a blanket of darkness. The knight behind her puts a cloak on her shoulder. Louise stares at her brother. The word does not sit very well in her mouth, but she still addresses him as such.'You never changed. You're still like that kid that plays around the castle as if it was not a place flooded by blood,' Louise thought as she stared at his back. The Crown Prince, Galien, glanced at her. "It's not like you didn't know why I am here, Louise,"Louise stared at his crimson eyes. Werewolves are known for their fierce eyes, but only those of royal blood have eyes as red as blood. It's a clear sign of being blessed by the Moon Goddess."Right," Louise nods. "You're here to c
Galien pulls Charlene to his side. "What do you think you're doing, Prince Adhler? You might be her partner, but this is disrespectful," "Galien," Charlene called his name, but the man did not bother glancing at her. His eyes are glued to the Lycan Prince across. It's not like Galien really sees this as disrespectful. It's just that it's the "Prince Adhler" that he knows so well. “Stop pestering Charlene, Adhler,” Charlene noticed how the Crown Prince's tone changed. Even the way he calls the Lycan Prince seemed different than the coated respect earlier. She glanced at Adhler. He was now looking at the Crown Prince with a straight face. Prince Adhler then smirked and raised both his hands. "Alright, alright. But I really need her right now, or we'll need to forfeit the competition," Adhler glanced at Charlene and shrugged his shoulders. Charlene looked at Galien. "We prepared for this for a month, Galien," her eyes are talking to the prince. Galien failed to argue with her and im
There are wounds that if left untreated, will leave a scar that one will carry for a lifetime. A scar so deep that it engraved a territory on one’s body. And it changes people. It physically marks its way to redefine the being of its host.Adhler glances at the clock tower, it’s a quarter before six, and the sun is turning in for the day. The mesmerizing sky, painted by the majestic colors of the sun, could stun anyone right now.It was a view for a painter’s eyes. But Adhler could not appreciate the yet another artwork that the sky is offering. He’s a slave to the sky, after he discovered the wonders it could bring when he was but a child.Adhler can stay a day just watching the pages it shows. It makes his heart thump in excitement whenever he finds a new discovery, and his head clear with just looking at it.But now… the Lycan Prince’s eyes are watching the sky through the eyes of the person he never thought he’d treat this way. “Breathe, Samarah. Breathe,” Adhler holds her shoul
Stories about what happened in that field silenced the next day. Not a mouth could open when Prince Galien spoke with the Minister himself. It was an occasion that should have never taken place under his watch.Charlene Samarah Adams is the youngest daughter of the one of the most powerful werewolves in their kingdom. An insult to her is an insult to the blood that flows through her veins. Prince Galien was so enraged that the Headmaster had to deal with the crisis or he would get his position revoked as what the Minister threatened him.Adhler on the other hand stayed away from Charlene after the incident. He did not want to do more harm to her reputation; and having a Lycan Prince around a person who's rumored to be married is not something that Adhler wants.“Have you found news about that scar?” Daimon was sent to investigate the matter right after Adhler found out about it.It was a scar so deep that he could not put it out his head. Adhler was thrilled and concerned all at the s
Imperial Year 454In celebration of the new imperial year, many people gathered in the castle where royals from other countries were also invited. The first semester of Celestia Academy ended, enabling the nobles and royals to be present in the banquet as well.Charlene stares at the ocean of people dancing on the floor. The joys in their faces, the waves of their body that dances with the rhythm of the orchestra— they are celebrating the blessing of the gods and goddesses they believe in.But Charlene could not put a smile on her face. The music did not flutter her heart nor did it make her excited. She’s troubled. Her eyes catch her brothers talking with other nobles their age. Adolphus, wearing a white uniform, looks like he’s just trying to get along with them out of respect and dignity. Harry, also wearing his uniform, is no different from his older brother. If someone would call it bluntly, they look rather bored. “Charlene,”“Eliot? Eliot Foster?” the man smiled when Charlene
There are three rules set by the Moon Goddess: Follow my prophecies. Respect my people. Do not betray your mate.Werewolves are one of the most loyal creatures in the living realm. Not just anyone can match the loyalty they could offer to their mates. Once a werewolf marks its mate, they will be bound for each other even after the other dies. But that is not always the case.If the pact is revoked by the kingdom and agreed by the whole pack— a certain line can be crossed without much consequence.Charlene stares at her feet. She had been walking since dawn, and it’s almost sunset. SHe should be feeling tired by now, but her feet— or her head is nowhere near tired after receiving the letter from their house earlier. It was a one sentence letter. A sentence that bothered her whole being the entire day. She did not even realize that the sun was already setting. All she could think about was the letter and the words that the Lycan Prince left her a week ago.It had been a week since they
