Caren’s POV

High school was the place of my nightmares. I really despised having to truly hide who I am, as well as being judged on the false persona I had created. I joined every group I could in the human world, trying to fit in, but at least I fit in. Lottie stood out, even though she hid in the background. Her bullies always found her. They tormented the crap out of her for years.

But she had me there, in case she ever ‘lost it’. I was there to protect the humans from Lottie, but those idiots only ever saw it the other way around. Lottie could have easily snapped them like twigs. She was so much stronger than them. Our mantra ‘their only human’ probably saved their lives too many times.

We both decided that our new mantra was ‘their only wolves’. They don’t know about our gifts or that Deana is a gifted wolf, making her unique. I don’t even know what makes her unique. She promises one day to tell me.
