I wasn’t thinking straight when I barreled into the room and got to relieving Aubrey’s heat symptoms. That is the only explanation I have for why I hadn’t locked the bedroom door, but the last thing I expected was to see my father framed in the doorway at nearly one in the morning.

“I see you are surprised to see me and I don’t blame you,” my father says. “I heard from the staff that you had found a second chance mate and were planning on spending a great deal of time here in mating and marking one another as well as your birthday celebration. There are things you need to know before long, but perhaps we can speak in the morning.”

I sigh before I speak, “there is no telling if Aubrey’s heat will be a nuisance in the morning, father. It has abated for the time being. If you give us a few moments, we can make ourselves presentable and join you in the lounge.”

“I don’t see your mark on her neck. How can she have her heat if you haven’t marked her yet?” My father
