“That’s a big sword you got there.” A man suddenly called from behind me, his deep voice laced with a prominent Scottish accent. I didn’t need to turn to know one of the bikers had joined me. I’d known it was wishful thinking on my path to expect them to leave me alone, not after how avidly they’d been staring at me. I felt the moment his large body dropped into a barstool beside me and I turned slightly to meet his gaze.

One close look was all it took for me to confirm that he was indeed one of them, an abomination. He was devilishly handsome, a common trait that most of the humanoid abominations shared. With eyes the same colour as honey and a face that looked like it had been sculpted by gods, he was very easy on the eyes. A roguish type of beauty. His dark hair was buzzed and a short beard and moustache outlined the perimeter of his full lips. A little golden hoop hung off the corner of his bottom lip and for a brief moment, I had a mini battle with the part of me that found that little detail attractive.

Could you blame me though? Men with piercings were my kryptonite. There was just something about it that was undeniably sexy. But unfortunately, that was limited to human men, not males whose species were unknown to me.

“What can I say? Big girl with a big sword.” I responded and he chuckled in response, a deep sound that vibrated through me.

“I ken you know how to use it.” He said, propping one muscular arm up on the bar table.

“I don’t mean to toot my own horn but I’m a master of my art.” I smirked. “Hardly a person out there who could beat me at my craft.”

“You’re a confident one. I like it.” He said with a hearty laugh. “But did you know the sword on your hip looks like a blade from legends?”

I parted my lips with faux curiosity.

“You don’t say.”

“Orion’s sword.” He continued, not seeming to notice the hint of sarcasm in my voice. “The vengeful blade whose cut can never heal. Crafted by an ancient sorcerer who sought revenge after the death of his mate and child. A blade like that could fetch a hefty bounty.” A flash of red crossed his eyes as he said that, so quickly that I almost thought I’d hallucinated it. But that didn’t matter when I could basically see him drooling while staring at my sword with stars in his eyes.

“Is that so?” I answered, my hand falling to the hilt protectively. The covetous tone in his voice was unmistakable. Yet another who sought to take my trophy from me.

“Lord Mikhail. Have you ever heard of him before?” My whole body tensed at the mention of that name and my grip on the hilt tightened. It was a name I hadn’t heard in a long time, a name I didn’t wish to hear. The name of my tormentor. Seeing my reaction, a smirk found his lips. “I guess you have then. He was the previous owner of Orion’s blade but he was murdered by a mortal hunter and had the sword stolen.”

So he knew who I was. He’d recognised from my weapon alone. Hiding my face had been pointless.

My eyes narrowed on him as my ears caught the sound of chairs shuffling behind me. Heavy booted footsteps resounded through the empty pub as the rest of the group drew nearer.

“Who would’ve thought I’d get to meet the mortal reaper? Today must be my lucky day.”

“Look, I don’t want any trouble so how about you back off.” I said with a warning tone.

“Neither do we so just hand over the sword and we’ll be on our way. We won’t have to harm a single hair on that pretty head of yours.” By now the other 3 had gathered behind me and the back of my neck prickled from the bloodlust they were oozing.

“Harm me? You?” I chuckled, not missing the way his face twisted with confusion. “I killed Lord Mikhail, a Royal. Do you really think I can’t handle a bunch of low-grade abominations like you? I’m giving you the chance to keep your head on your body. Back off while I’m still playing nice.”

His face twisted with rage and the honey coloured eyes soon bled into a bright crimson. At least now I knew what kind of abomination he was. A bloodsucker. He bared his fangs at me just as I sensed one of his henchmen reach out to grab me from behind. Without a second thought, I unsheathed my blade and swung, a feeling of satisfaction washing over me as I felt the blade cut through flesh and bone. The severed limb fell to the ground with a dull wet thump. It all happened in the span of a second, even the leech beside me seemed shocked by how quickly I’d swung at his friend

A roar of pain echoed throughout the room followed by a string of curses coming from the one whose hand had just been cut off.

“This bitch!” From the corner of my eye, I saw him clutching the bloody stump where his arm used to be, blood seeping past his fingers and staining the wooden floors.

“So what will it be?” I said holding my bloodied blade to the neck of the leech sitting beside me, the supposed leader of this gang of idiots. His nostrils flared with rage and I sensed he had no intention of backing down. Instead, he raised a clawed hand in preparation for an attack. I let out a tired sigh. You’d expect creatures who lived for centuries to be wise enough to know when to back down but apparently, the male ego superseded wisdom. “Will your claws be faster than my blade cleaving through your neck? Let’s find out then.”

“That’s enough!” A loud voice suddenly boomed, halting everyone in place.

  • His Little Hunter   Chapter 1

ALLISON'S POV Focus Allison. I took a deep breath in and sighed, hoping it would help ease the pounding that rang in my overly sensitive ears. Breathe in. Breathe out. It didn’t. Sirens blared at a distance which I supposed wasn’t a rare sound in an area like this. Vampires always seemed to love hanging around in slums like these, where their crimes could easily be masked as nothing more than a pitiful yet common occurrence. The sun had long made its descent from the sky, plaguing the area in a darkness that was only slightly alleviated by the faint glow of the half-moon above us. The streetlights that lined the area didn’t help. All were dead save for one that gave a consistent flicker. The sudden sound of a gunshot made me jolt. “Are you okay?” Lacey, our sniper asked from my side. We were both sprawled out on the roof of the old abandoned warehouse with our fronts pressed to the edge of the surprisingly sturdy zinc. Lacey had her rifle positioned and set s

ALLISON'S POV I smiled when he did, the force of his rage feeling like a cooling balm on my skin. There was no easier target than one driven by emotion. Especially when the emotion in question was one as volatile as anger. I easily evaded his careless attack, dipping under the arm he swung at me and moving to his back. Maybe this was what I needed. A fight to keep my mind off the disconcerting changes that had been happening to me. Nothing lifted my mood more than a chance to pummel leeches. For the first time in days, my head was clear and I was relieved of the noises that threatened to madden me. The leech stumbled but hastily righted himself before throwing himself at me once again. Appearance-wise the vamp looked level-headed but appearances could be deceiving, I'd learnt that a long time ago. The way he moved was anything but level-headed. He threw another careless fist in my direction. Was he trying to bore me with these overly predictable attacks? I almost yaw

ALLISON'S POV"If you're going to kill me just do it already." I spat out through the blood bubbling at the back of my throat, biting back tears from the pain. I'd rather chew on glass than let these bastards see me cry. I could feel the warmth slowly leaving my body as blood seeped from the wound. I guess I should be lucky he hadn't pulled the blade out yet. Or was that intentional?"That would be too easy now, wouldn't it?" Man bun said behind me. So it was intentional. Typical vampires. "We have other plans for you. Remember, I said I have a crush on you." Trench coat said as he dipped his head towards my neck. Fangs grazed the skin there and panic shot through me as memories I tried to keep buried resurfaced with a vengeance. No. Anything but that. I can't go through that again. Panic made my whole world spin as I began another desperate attempt to free myself. "You'll make the perfect little blood slave." "No... stop-" He nicked my skin with a fang and ran his tongue over th

My eyes remained fixed on the spot the royal had stood, my body still trembling moments after he'd disappeared. The threat was gone, I was safe, yet my heart continued to pound like a jackhammer in my chest, the sound so loud that it made my already sensitive ears throb. Nothing else around me registered. I couldn't move. I could barely even breathe. The fear his presence had stirred up was so potent that my eyes stung. A Royal... Here of all places.... I knew it was impossible to avoid crossing paths with one of their kind given the occupation I'd chosen for myself but I never imagined meeting one again this soon. I always thought I'd be prepared when the day finally came but I wasn't. I still wasn't over it. I still wasn't over what HE did to me. From the twin vampires nearly feeding from me and the Royal appearing, it was obvious I wasn't nearly as ‘healed’ as I thought I was. My hand gripped the hilt of my blade as memories of a much darker time flooded my thoughts but the

Those red orbs remained focused on me, unblinking for what felt like an eternity until finally they vanished. In an instant, his presence was gone but the bloodlust had lingered until the very last second. Even when I no longer sensed him, my heart felt like it would leap out of my chest. The leader was right. He definitely hadn’t planned on killing me earlier. I hadn’t sensed this level of bloodlust earlier, not even when he’d threatened the twins. The aura he’d given off just now was absolutely terrifying. For whatever reason, he'd chosen to withdraw rather than attack. I was grateful for that because there was no way either Damien or I would have stood a chance against him, especially not with my current injury. “I don’t sense him anymore.” Damien said, his voice still holding a bit of edge while his eyes remained focused on the area the vampire had just been. He wouldn’t have been able to see the royal the way I had but Damien’s senses were sharp. He’d figured out the vampire’s

The greying old lady who was in charge of the clinic was the one who had spoken. She stood beside the leader with a hand tucked in her white lab coat and a stethoscope hung over her neck. Her greying hair, which was the only indication that she was a woman well into her 50’s was cropped into a bob that barely touched her slender shoulders. Her dark eyes glinted with mischief and the cheeky grin on her face made me want to crawl into a hole and die. She was one person who knew about my feelings for Damien and the one person who didn’t hesitate to give me hell for it. She stepped forward, coming to the edge of my bed and placing a hand on my forehead. “Are you running a fever? You’re red as a beet.” My face only grew warmer at her words. “I’m fine.” I said as I slapped her hand away, hating the way my voice cracked when I s

After a week of pleading and somehow convincing the Dr and leader that I wouldn’t go hunting, I was finally released from the prison that was my hospital room. Precious time had been lost while I was forced to rest. Time that could have been spent searching for a cure for the plague that had befallen me. Even though I had no concrete evidence, I was vividly aware that the transformation progressed further with each day I sat back doing nothing. Before I’d gone on that hunt for the twins, I’d been tormented with sounds that made me want to claw out my ears and a seemingly unquenchable thirst that I suspected could only be sated by one thing. Over the past week, the sounds seemed to grow less overwhelming, almost as though my ears had adjusted somewhat and was now able to tune out some of the unnecessary noise. As for the thirst? I’d nearly come upon Damien’s neck one night he’d visited me. He’d been fresh from a hunt with claw slashes marring his skin after a battle with a Lycan. On

My heart skipped a beat at the sudden question.“O-Of course not. I have no reason to lie to my family.” I stuttered, my right hand instinctively moving to grip the hilt of my sword in search of calm. The sword that was currently leaning against my reading desk. “Why ask that all of a sudden?” “It’s nothing.” He answered plainly. Two simple words yet they unnerved me to no end. Without another word, his form retreated past the door and it shut with a gentle thud. Now alone in my room, I stood staring at the door in shock. What the fuck was that encounter? What was with the odd vibe and why had he asked me that all of a sudden? Had he seen through my lie? Or had he seen something else other than the list? My lips thinned as my attention returned to the reading desk. I was almost certain I’d had that list tucked away in the back of my desk drawer, away from the reach of anyone who wasn’t actively snooping through my stuff. The wheels of my motorcycle gave a screech as I came to a halt in front of the pub. I shut the engine off and took my helmet off in one fluid motion, my eyes moving to search my perimeter. I couldn’t help but scoff at how typical the scene before me was. A regular bad neighbourhood with old-looking buildings spray painted with graffiti art, busted-up roads, and overflowing trash cans that were also spray painted with graffiti. Shuffling came from one of the cans as a little boy dove through it and from the corner of my eye, I caught a sneaky exchange between what I believed was a drug dealer and what was obviously an addict. It was clear as day that there wasn’t much law enforcement around here and places like these were exactly what those abominations loved. Places where they could commit their crimes without garnering the attention of the masses. Unsurprisingly, this was the same neighbourhood I’d had the encounter with the twin vamps. There was nothing particularly odd about the
