Darren didn't leave after sending off Amelia. He stayed in that grove and watched until Amelia’s figure vanished into the station’s building. He waited for a while in the woods and then shifted into his human form.
Rogues who live in the woods can only survive in their wolf forms. It had been years since the last time he transformed into a human.
His hair was long and untrimmed, as well as his overgrown beard, plus his disabled right eye, which made him look like a scary homeless man. He didn't want Amelia to see him like that. It may scare her. But she was too fragile for him not to worry.
When he looked at her, he saw a delicate flower that could be broken off even by a gust of slightly stronger wind. Her voice was soft. Her facial expressions were always timid. Though she had the most beautiful smile in the world, whenever Darren looked at her, he saw a fragile soul which might collapse at any moment.
To be honest, she wasn't the strong Luna he was looking for. She had nothing even slightly related to strongness. But when he caressed his fur across her skin, he felt peace and happiness welling up from the bottom of his heart. He knew they were fated with each other.
"Amelia."
He mumbled her beautiful name in his mouth with a smile, then quickly put on those clothes he had stolen when Amelia was still asleep.
It had been forever since the last time he walked with human legs. When he took a step forward, his legs were stiff and his body lost balance. He soon fell on the ground with his head bumping into heaps of rotten leaves. He growled, then stood up and tried again.
It took him another 5 falls before he eventually recalled how to walk as a human. He roughly cleaned the dirt and crushed leaves off his head and clothes, and then quickly crossed the shining railway to get into the station.
In the small ticket office that had a red roof, Amelia had already gotten her ticket. When purchasing it, she hesitated about the destination but eventually did as Darren told her and chose the big city far away.
After that, she picked up a map of that area and began to remember it with all her effort. It may help her to escape again someday in the future. She was so focused on her escaping plan that she barely noticed it when Darren walked in.
He was this big muscular guy about 6 '5 tall. The clothes he wore were obviously too small for him. His face was covered by his long hair and huge beard. There was fresh dirt and crushed leaves all over his body. All of that made him look like a caveman who had just come to daylight.
The intimidating vibes around him soon scared all the other passengers away, except for Amelia, who was still memorizing that map.
Darren stopped right at the entrance of the waiting room. He found a seat there and then started to look at her. The war was a sure thing. He wasn't able to escort her to the city today. The best he could do now was to see her off to the train. He had some friends in the city who could take care of her for a while. After he finished his task here, he would come to her and take care of her on his own.
By then, he would have so much happiness and joy to share with her.
Amelia didn't realize there was a big scary guy secretly watching her all the time. She purchased the earliest train. Soon it's time for her to leave. She put the map back into her bag and then organized her clothes.
The staff of the train station guided her to the platform alongside other passengers. When she saw that huge growling machine slowly crawling towards her, she felt her heart throb with slight excitement.
It was her first time leaving home, and her first time doing something alone on her own.
After the train stopped, Amelia climbed up the steps of the train door, following another two passengers. The towns the train passed through were all small. There weren't many people in the compartment. Amelia found her seat beside the window and then settled herself there. There were no other passengers around her. Still, she hugged her packsack in front of her chest tightly in case she lost it. That’s all the possessions she had gotten.
After all the passengers settled down, the train restarted moving. Outside the window, the trees and fields started to run backward quickly. All of a sudden, Amelia saw a black shadow chasing her outside the window. It was Darren and it was his way to say goodbye to her.
Amelia smiled. She waved her hand to him from inside the window. Darren then stopped and watched her leave.
His heart was loaded with tons of reluctance and pain from parting with his mate. But he put up with it because he knew he must fight for their bright, new future. He was going to build a beautiful, comfortable, and safe home for her.
He waited there until the train totally disappeared at the end of the skyline. And then he connected his Beta, Roland, after a heavy sigh.
"Did you rearrange our army as I told you?" He asked via the mind link.
The Beta quickly answered, "Yes." But he was curious, "Are we still going to attack the Blue Forest today?"
Darren answered without hesitation, "Yes, of course. We are going to present our Luna with a brand-new pack."
Once Darren faded out of her eyeshot, Amelia surprisingly found that she started to hesitate. She was hesitating about the destination of her trip. The big city was too much for her to handle. She had never been with too many people before and she was a little afraid of doing so. When she left the packhouse, she had planned to go to one of those little towns far away. But Darren told her to go to the city. She obeyed out of instinct.Throughout her whole life, there was always someone to tell her what to do. Even if she disagreed, she wouldn't be listened to. To live under others' instructions had become her living habit. Facing Darren, she still did it out of habit. But now Darren was gone, so did the pressure that had been messing up with her head. Now she was able to think clearly. For the first time in her life, Amelia found that she was totally free from wolves now and completely belonged to her own. She suddenly had this strong impulse to cut off her connection with all the wol
Amelia was thrilled by her achievement on her first day in this big scary city. Not only did she find a job successfully, but she also got a huge paycheck which was much bigger than she could ever imagine.Hey, who said she was a useless trash who could never live on her own? See, she had a job now and she could afford her food. After leaving the coffee shop, Amelia took time to find a place to live. She was unaccustomed to noises and was afraid of crowds. In the end, she found an old tall building in the middle of a dark alley. The smell of the alley was stinky and it was completely hidden in the shadow like the sun would never come to this place. But Amelia liked it because it made her feel hidden and safe.Within the cold stone building, it was smelly and dark too. Amelia stepped into it and saw nothing but an old male clerk sitting in the reception hall. He was skinny, half bald without any hair on the top of his head. The rest hair around his head was white and messy. He attenti
Ian felt something off.Yesterday, when he received that alarm reminding him someone broke into his apartment, he was in his office. He quickly turned on the surveillance that he installed to watch Amelia and then saw a big scary wolf barge into the living room.“Fuck!!!” He cursed, and quickly rushed out of the office. The moment he pushed open the door, he found himself going into a different place or world. In front of him was a big living room under dim yellow lights. There were sofas, TVs, and teenage boys and girls, laughing and making fun with each other. Seeing him walk into the door, a young male wolf seemed about 17 or 18 walked towards him. He had curly brown hair and a pair of kind blue eyes. When he spoke to Ian, he wore this big, lively smile, “Where have you been, Ian?” He patted Ian’s shoulder, “The Alpha and Luna are looking for you for your wedding with Amelia. They are waiting on the second floor.” His voice and gesture were as familiar as his appearance. Ian reco
Someone is trying to help Amelia.Ian had no idea who it was, but he knew Amelia well to assert that she had no nerve or talent to plot all of these to go against him.She was weak, timid, pathetic, and doomed to be his favorite human-shaped toy. But someone had noticed her and decided to offer her a hand, a chance to change her fate, an opportunity to escape from him.Ian was enraged at first, but he soon tasted joy. The help that someone offered to Amelia must be conditional. That was why he himself was sent back with her. That meant his target here was clear. He was here to hunt, to capture, to stop her from getting away from him.A toy who knew to run and hide was so much better than the one who can just sit in a wheelchair. Ian now felt satisfied. He looked around Amelia’s bedroom and went through all her stuff to search for information about that someone.Suddenly, he just recalled, before he was sent back, he saw Darren break into his apartment.Darren was the leader of the ro
“Where do you think you are going, sweetheart?”The man standing in front of her was short, skinny, and wore a dirty and disgusting smile. There were uncovered lusts and crude desire beaming from his slender eyes. It took Amelia some time to recall who he was—One of the many customers she served in the coffee shop. She remembered his name was Scott. She met Scott on the second day of her work. Vernonia once warned her about him. “He is one of the gang members who ran the unlicensed taxis in this area. Be careful and don’t cross him.”Amelia nodded her head and greeted Scott with her beautiful smile as she did to others. She didn’t know much about gangsters and their illegal business, and she had no intention to cross anyone. That’s why she was able to serve him without any bias. Her innocent smile and her fragile beauty somehow impressed the rough man. From that day, he came to the coffee shop frequently and asked her out a few times.Amelia declined him politely of course. She didn
“Can you take the shower on your own?”After going back to the hotel, Carlie didn’t take Amelia to the fourth, but back to her own room on the second floor. She put Amelia on her bed and then turned on the tap to put hot water in the bathtub.Amelia kept mute all the time, but gradually she gained back her sense. The rotten smell of the hotel, the pungent odor of Carlie’s cheap cosmetics, and the annoyingly loud noises coming from the hallway just reminded her that she was currently in the human world, which was a place big, strange but warm, and far far away from her scary wolf pack. There were no wolves around her anymore and there was no Ian. She had escaped from him and he would never find her ever again. Never.Amelie wiped off the water drops on her face with the backs of her hands. It’s hard to tell whether they were tears or just raindrops. She lifted her head and saw Carlie changing her clothes. Noticing she had back to her sense, Carlie quickly threw her a bath towel and
It was Darren. The moment Amelia saw him she got frightened, but she soon recognized it was her mate who was looking after her.The rain was heavy which soaked his fur to the skin, but he didn’t move a bit as that would cause him to lose sight of her window. When Amelia looked down at him, he got startled first and then quickly walked away with his head lowered. Amelia noticed his ears went down and there was a trace of guilt flashing through his lonely green eye.He was feeling guilty and regretting, guilty of not being able to help her, regret of not finding her earlier…Amelia felt her heart get stung. She didn’t want a relationship anymore, but she had no intention to hurt Darren. In her pathetic short life, Darren was the first one who was nice to her. He saved her from that cold wheelchair and comforted her with his soft, warm fur.He was indeed a ferocious animal, but wasn’t a scary man.Amelia clutched the windowsill in her hands. She bit her lower lip, wondering, hesitating,
Amelia woke up at 6 when Carlie left for work. She got to rest today so she could sleep as much as she liked, but she couldn’t do it as she now felt too embarrassed by what happened last night. She lay on the bed, hiding under the cover with her body curled up into a ball. To think of that kiss, her face burned with shyness and disbelief. She had no idea why she kissed Darren like that, just like she had no idea why she always acted baldly while facing him.Don’t you ever talk to strangers.Don’t you ever touch another man.For all those years, those rules Ian stipulated to her were so deeply carved into her bones. To think of the consequence of finding out by Ian, Amelia thought she would never have the courage to get intimated with anyone, whether spontaneously or not. But last night not only did she clean his fur, she kissed his forehead and she liked it, not the feeling of their skin touching each other, but the feeling of owning the courage to do things she thought she couldn’t.
Nine’s POVUp to today, I still couldn’t fully comprehend why I stopped for that teenage girl on that day.It was one of the coldest winter nights in this strange country, chill, dark, and the iciness was just seeping under your skin. There was no wind that night, just snow, flake by flake, but in quite large sizes, falling off from heaven.I walked aimlessly in the thick snow on the street. The melted mud soiled my furs on my legs. There weren’t many street lights either, just cars and scarce passersby running past hurriedly. I heard loud music and laughing noises coming from those colorful stores on both sides of the street. It was still early in the night, but the street was so dark and quiet like it had been devoured by the demon.I walked haphazardly on the sidewalk, eyes fixed in the air, mind wandering restlessly. It was the 60th day I arrived in the city. As always, I found no one even slightly looking like my aim. It was quite disappointing, but I didn’t think much about it.
Amelia was waiting outside the village in the car. Up to today, they had been traveling around the country for 7 months. They paid a visit to Emily first, and then went to Fay and Gregson’s son and all the other wolves who were once part of the murder. They hunted down every wolf who was responsible and made them pay their debts.James’s house was their last stop. After today, they would head back to their home and start a new life.Amelia said “No” when he asked if she wanted to visit her parents with him. Darren knew the reason. James and Doris were just the most ignorant and stupid couple he had ever met. Harm would be the only thing they might have caused Amelia if there was a reunion. He wrapped his coat a little tighter because of the autumn’s cold wind, then quickened his steps to the outside of the village. The sky’s color was sullen yellow today. While he was still far from their car, suddenly he saw Doris standing beside it with Amelia. His heart clenched. He then ran toward
James was pretty upset about his retirement life.Nearly three years had passed since he lost his pack to the rogue he hated most, Darren. Though he had successfully persuaded himself to accept the fact and have a life with nothing a long time ago. Still, he was worried all the time about his adopted son, Ian. Three years ago, right after Darren took all his property from the Wolf Committee, Ian showed up at his front door later that day with a heavily wounded face. He plunged himself into James’s arms and cried. “The Rogue has put a wanted notice on me. He wants me to be dead!”James patted his back and sighed, knowing it was the ending of his and his pack’s glory. Still, he had this tiny expectation left in his heart that maybe someday, Ian could find a way to defeat Darren and regain everything. He was a smart kid, and had always been. And, he was the heir of the most powerful pack, Green Lake.At that point, James could hardly tell. Did he adopt Ian out of his condolences to hi
“Mom, Dad, Emily….”He drifted back to his childhood in that cold, suffocating lake water, reliving everything that was so treasurable and amiable for him….When he was sinking, the lost memories of his slowly grew back piece by piece. He remembered how his sister fell from the cliff on the exact same day, and how Roy caught him in the lake, then took him to a secret chamber underneath it. That’s how he survived.“Hope you can have a normal but happy life, kid.” Roy sighed and wept beside his bed, then did something to his wounded eye. He couldn’t remember.Next, another surge of hatred and fury overwhelmed him.Now he could see clearly how he and his sister saved that wounded rogue boy in the forest, but got betrayed and attacked by him.“Fuck you! Fuck! How dare you use the Alpha tone on me?!” The rogue boy cursed, riding on top of him, using that sharp rock in his hand, repeatedly beating his head. After crushing his left eye, the rogue stood up and started to kick his chest and s
Adam had no idea why he agreed to help Mia. Mia was just an orphan he picked up from the street 10 years ago. A girl who had grown up, but refused to leave. When he told her that she was free to go at any time, she just said, “You need someone to take care of you, Master. And I am that perfect someone”, and then stayed as his maid.Adam didn’t try to persuade her. He didn’t even talk with her that much. He wasn’t a passionate person, had never had too many emotions. During the past 600 years, he had witnessed the death of too many people. For him, people were just things, or even less than things. Because things can last and stay, while people change and decay so quickly. No matter what kind of lives they have, or how reluctantly they behave, the endings of them are just the same. They will all die eventually, being buried into the earth soundlessly, and then quickly dispersed into nowhere.Years later, sometimes even days later, no one would ever remember them. Only he, the outsid
The moment Amelia heard that she felt her blood freeze. She quickly turned her head and then looked towards the castle, then saw Jovian grabbing a young girl in uniform by her throat, dragging her to the window. It wasn’t the girl who served food for them tonight, but Mia. The torch dropped on the floor had ignited the curtain beside the window, the whole place was about to sink into fire.Jovian giggled at the window, tightening his grip on Mia’s throat, “Guess what I will do to her, baby brother? I am going to eat her alive, starting from the fingers.” He reached his other hand to Mia’s wrist and broke it off like it was a chopstick. Mia screamed out of pain, but it was quickly cut off by the hand on her throat. Her face instantly turned purple. Tears streamed down from the corners of her eyes.“Or I am going to rape her right here and dismember her. You hate that kind of thing, don’t you, little brother? I hear you deprived a wolf for a human girl.”Adam’s face turned pale. Ameli
When Amelia headed back, the temperature within the manor had suddenly dropped. The whole place somehow went into dead silence. Ominous coldness infiltrated her skin. Amelia kept her footsteps light, eliminating the sounds she made to the minimum. Way before she made it to the castle, she had already heard that cocky male voice laughing and shouting from inside it.“Where are you, Adam?”“Come to meet your big brother!”“It has been 70 years since the last time we met. Don’t you want to treat your brother to a drink?”His tone was both playful and vicious, sounding like provoking a fight or seeking conflicts. No matter who he was, his visit here was definitely not kind.Amelia quickly climbed up to a huge maple tree outside the castle. She hid herself on a branch under those lush leaves, observing the castle, trying to get a peek at what was going on inside. From the opened window on the façade of the building, she saw an average-height figure wandering through the hallway on the se
After going back to the castle, they said “good night” to each other.Adam parted with her in the lobby. He didn’t want to frighten her by escorting her to her room.Amelia took the elevator and went back alone. After entering her room, she loosened her hair first and removed all the ornaments Mia decorated on her. After that, she picked out one of her own dresses from the closet. She didn’t wear it. Instead, she wrapped it around her waist and then shifted. The castle was high, but the second floor wouldn’t be a problem for a deft wolf like her. She pushed open the window using her paws, and then jumped out through it.The dirt underneath the window was soft, tinged with the mixed scent of different kinds of plants. Amelia stopped there for a second to identify the direction. And then she moved her legs and sprinted. She was heading towards her mate who was guarding her outside those tall grey walls. She just had one of the greatest nights of her life. She couldn’t wait to share it
Adam had made plans for tonight.Long before he asked Amelia to Switzerland with him, when he was still in her bakery shop typing, writing, and observing her, he had already decided what he would do to her once he brought her here. When the night came, he would invite her for dinner for sure, but before that, he would have her dress like a princess, even make her wear a splendid wedding dress. After she cried throughout dinner at the table, he would “ask” her to dance. In the company of the beautiful symphony of Shubert, he would flirt with her, tease her, and even terrorize her by pretending to bite her. “I am going to transfer you to a vampire,” he would whisper in her ear, gliding his sharp teeth through the soft skin of her delicate neck.Amelia would be so scared, and then she would run and hide.He would chase her through every single room of this huge castle, having some weapons and exits prepared for her, giving her fake hopes now and then, but quickly push her back into deep
