My heart ached as I watched Sabrina cowering in the corner, her body trembling with fear. The blanket wrapped around her seemed to offer her a little solace, her sobs muffled but still audible.

I approached her cautiously, my voice soft and reassuring. “Shhh… I’m here,” I whispered as my arms outstretched. I felt her jolted in surprise as I continued, “You’re safe,” my voice filled with tenderness, trying to calm her. “No one will hurt you here.” I gently pulled her into my embrace, but the blanket was separating us.

Abruptly, I was struck by flashbacks of that night in Primrose City during the rainstorm, the night I had first witnessed her terror. The sight of her fear had sent a wave of dread through me, a primal instinct to protect her at all costs.
