I stared at Daniel in awe, and though I knew he was intentionally making me uncomfortable, I couldn't help the heat running to my face. There wasn't any meaning behind that, right?
I plastered a blank expression and continuously blinked my eyes. An awkward silence consumed us, as I waited for him to continue.
I wasn't sure if I should be flattered about it, but it didn't feel right. All I felt was anxiousness, and Lindsey's confession started to linger in my head. He couldn't be serious. He couldn't like a person like me. I was far from an interesting woman.
I stifle a laugh, trying to shake off the awkwardness in my tone. I suddenly felt uncomfortable, and my hands began to sweat.
"You're funny." I chuckled, lightly shaking my head in disbelief.
"You know what's funny?" He laughed. "Your face when I told you that I like you."
I gulped for a split second,
The sun had already set down and darkness dominated the entire place. Daniel and I were walking along the sidewalk, a deafening silence consuming us. It was already eight at night and people were starting to diminish in this area we were in. The street lights and cars' headlights lit the place, as we strolled down in utter silence with the breeze blowing to our skin.I wrapped my arms around me, hands rubbed both sides of my shoulders. It was getting cold and I could feel my lips chapping. At the side of my eye, I could sense Daniel casually glancing at me. When he suddenly stopped walking, I did the same thing and gave him a curious gaze.He slid his jacket off his shoulders, down to his masculine arms before it was completely off of him. He moved closer to me and wrapped his black, leather jacket around my arms. I flashed an appreciative smile, tugging the hem of the jacket to cloak my freezing body."Thanks," I mumbled
It was another day to school, and I was walking out of the Psychology room. I had been so exhausted lately and I could barely insert some information in my head. The exam day was approaching, which meant the dreadful days were about to come.During English class a while ago, Miguel was still so distant. He didn't look mad or disappointed in me, he just wasn't the Miguel I used to hang out with. Something changed and he became more serious. I was starting to overthink and maybe I'd done something wrong. Or maybe he was just dealing with something he didn't want anyone to know. But that thought had been bugging me. I couldn't worry about that too when I was still loaded with these family problems. And after what happened yesterday between Daniel and me, I'd come to a decision to confront Kourtney about the blackmail. I needed to make a move before anything went wrong and someone would get hurt. I needed to sort these problems out as soon as
I was pacing back and forth beside the exit of the school, while I chewed my bottom lip and waited for Kourtney to pass by. My hands were sweating and thoughts crept in my head. I didn't know how was I going to confront her or even where to start. If I didn't seem believable enough, our plan would blow up.My attention averted when I noticed Kourtney strutting towards the exit. Her voluminous, brown hair bounced in every step she took, and her glamorous face was stoic. The cream-colored, fur coat she always wore was hiding her fitted blouse and slender body. Once she shot me her hazel eyes, I gulped in nervousness. She moved in front of me, as her vanilla scent entered my nose."What are you doing here?" she asked curiously."I need to tell you something," I answered, trying to hide the nervousness in my tone. She beckoned me to go with her outside and I complied. Trailing behind her, we t
After the agreement I had with Kourtney, I went to Daniel to share this news: it was going to be over.I spotted him in his motorcycle, putting his black leather jacket on before he noticed me standing beside him. A huge grin crept across my face, as he lifted his brows in curiosity."What happened?" he asked, and I pursed my lips together before moving a step closer to him."It's going to be over," I answered, sounding more enthusiastic than what I intended. "Kourtney agreed to delete the video after this vacation."He plastered nothing but a blank expression. His lips were drawn to a thin line and his ocean eyes suddenly looked away from me. I watched him as he took in what I just said; I knew he'd grown an attachment to this fake relationship.I wasn't sure what word to utter at this moment. I was expecting him to be surprised or happy, but it was different. He was stoic— the expr
I didn't expect packing some clothes would be difficult, and I regretted doing this the other day when I had all the time yesterday. I shouldn't have procrastinated, maybe I'd be done packing by now. Pieces of clothing were scattered everywhere in this room, the continuous ring of my phone was distracting me, and I was now drenched with sweat.Hasting, I picked up the phone, only to see the caller ID flashed on the screen. It seemed like I didn't have a choice and just answered it."Devaraux, what do you want?" I asked, my tone sounded displeased."Why aren't you picking up your phone?" She said, irritated."Why?""I'm outside the apartment building, and I decided to fetch you."I gaped my mouth in awe and furrowed my brows in annoyance. I can't believe her."What am I, a seven-year-old?" I responded in annoyance."I'm making sure
We were all seated in the minivan, with a song resounding the area along with their voices. I was sat beside Daniel in the passenger's seat, Kourtney and Mason were behind us, Emma and Caley sat beside each other, and Miguel and Amanda were at the very back row of the van.I kept silent beside him, while I looked outside of the car's window to make my mind drift from the thought of this awkward situation. I felt like Daniel knew about my reaction a while ago and I could feel that he wasn't too glad about it. Not because of me suddenly being okay because Miguel was already around, but because I lack appreciation for his efforts.Biting my lip, I was fidgeting by gripping the dress I was wearing. I was glad the awkward silence that was filling the gap between Daniel and I was replaced by the noises of the people at the back. They didn't care if they sounded out of tune, they were just having fun."I'm a sucker for you. S
I felt like I could've fainted, and the oxygen was non-existent at this moment. His grip was making me sweat, and tingles began to form in my stomach. I couldn't move, and I wanted to push him away but a part of me didn't.He got closer and closer. Every bit of his move caused my heart to skip a beat. He was hovering on top of me, as his bare chest pressed against my bust. What was he doing? The tension grew thicker and his head moved closer to me. The void between us was non-existent, and all I could feel now was the hotness of his breath and my heart rapidly beating. His hands moved further to grasp the hem of my shirt, but he quickly unheld it to graze his hand on my waist. He was touching me and I was letting it happen. A part of me wanted to stop, but the tension was devouring me. I shouldn't, the voice whispered in my head.He leaned closer, leaving no space as his pink lips were an inch aw
The sun was setting down and we had been gathered around the bonfire. The sunset was starting to dim the place, as the yellow streaks started to illuminate the area we were in. We were warming up beside the bonfire, holding sticks with marshmallows as everyone laughed along with each other's remarks. We were sat on the sand, as the waves of the sea beside us created a soothing sound. I loved this moment, and I was glad I had the chance to experience this.Chatters and cackles filled the ghost silence, and the atmosphere seemed relaxing. We'd also changed our outfits, so we wore some hoodies and sweatpants because it was seemingly cold. I had wrapped my arms around myself, gripping the clothing that cloaked my freezing body. Roaming my eyes around, I spotted Miguel approaching with two bottles of liquor in his grasp. He wore a white top and baggy sweatpants, along with a pair of flip flops.I had admired him the whole day; he was the one wh
The whole ride on the way back to the hotel was quiet. We immediately left Paola’s house after the conversation we had, and Miguel didn’t choose to persuade her more for he understood her situation. All that I could do at that moment was empathize with her for her loss and we did everything we could to not make her feel bad about not helping us. Miguel also had told her to go to their mother which Paola instantly declined since she felt hesitant to show up to him. Then we all bid her goodbye along with Xavier.
“I met up with our father yesterday,” Miguel said and it received a baffled reaction from Paola. Her eyes widened and she stiffened on her seat as she stared at Miguel.
The next day, Gwen, Miguel, and I left the hotel in the afternoon along with William’s men. We would be heading to the person Miguel was referring to yesterday and we would try to talk to him or her about Fernando. To be honest, I was full of anticipation and I was being optimistic about the outcome. I wouldn’t deny, I was still a little nervous. We were inside the car and Miguel was in the driver’s seat. Gwen was sitting at the back while I was on the shotgun.
No one knows where the golds are, only your father, I repeated Fernando’s words in my head. I was certain that I knew where my father hid them, and he entrusted those to me that’s why I became the new keeper. Why did he come up to that conclusion? Did the Houstons know that I hid the golds?“You know that my father’s dead, right?” I said, my tone was laced with resentment. “And the treasure didn’t die along with him.”
Seeing Fernando sitting in front of me was probably one of the most unsettling feelings I’d ever had. I stared at him in awe, trying to hide the anxiousness I suddenly felt at the sight of him. He plastered a stoic face, and only two guards were standing on both sides of Fernando. I was right, he looked just like an Italian mafia boss in his early thirties. But I knew he was older than that, he just appeared younger because there weren’t any apparent wrinkles that formed on his face. I knew where Miguel had inherited his features, and I could already visualize how he would look like when he got old.
I was seated in front of these men who were gawking at me as if I was prey they needed to devour. There were five of them, and Fernando sat in the middle, contemplating. Beside Fernando was Dmitri, smiling mischievously like he was planning something sketchy. They’d locked William up in a chamber, and I was left alone because we got caught. We failed to conceal the secret between Arthur and William, and we were about to escape Mexico when we got caught by Fernando.
We got out of the car and moved closer to the house that looked just like a freaking castle. It was an old-style house, a bit outdated if you would ask me. But it was gorgeous, dark, and foreboding. It was the house you would expect a beast would live in. The house was surrounded by trees that there were dried leaves that scattered all over their unkempt lawn. The grass had grown tall, maybe because no one was staying here and no one looked out for their house. The hedges that ran along the front of their house also looked dehydrated, and they weren’t the luminescent green color we’d always had at our home. This looked more like a haunted mansion that no one would ever dare to stay here for long.
I was in a deep slumber for the entire ride that I hadn’t realized that we’d landed already. Though I’d already slept, it seemed like I had just blinked my eyes and now we were here. It was quick, about an hour or two rides that I honestly didn’t expect. Gwen had woken me up when we arrived and we quickly got off the plane. William’s men, who I barely communicate with, held our luggage. When I roamed my eyes around the place, we were taken to another hangar which wasn’t expected.
