What was Catherine Houston doing in my doorstep?

"Uhmm come in," I awkwardly said, opening the door wider as she walked past by me.

To be honest, I kind of feel embarrassed about the trash that was scattered in this room. My apartment looked like someone robbed it like literally, everything was disorganized.

I watched as Catherine examined the place. Her eyes wandered around the area as if confused about the mess in my apartment. I gently closed the door behind me and heaved a sigh.

"So, what brought you here?" I asked apathetically, moving beside the door to pick up my bent rack.

"You surely don't recognize me?" she asked confused with a grin on her face.

I moved beside the rack and crouched to the pile of crumpled papers laying on the ground.

"I recognize you, Miss FBI. You tried to kill me, remember?" I raised my eyebrows, without taking a glance at her

The bell rang in the Psychology class and I gathered my things on the table. I picked up my books and brought them closer to my chest before going down the aisle of the room."Miss Preston," Sir Richards called, pondering on his desk.I turned to him, confusion drawn across my face as I moved in front of him. The strap of my sling bag was falling down from my shoulder, as I quickly pulled it up with a sheepish smile."Yes, sir?" I asked, apathetic."Look, Miss Preston, I don't mean to judge you, but Caleb Heory told me you haven't been teaching him. He was failing badly in my class, you should take responsibility," he said.My lips parted and my eyebrows began to furrow."I'm in no right to disrespect you but first of all, you didn't ask for my approval in this. Second, if Caley is failing your class, it isn't my responsibility. It just meant that your teaching wa

Disclaimer: Please brace yourself for this chapter and bear with me. The truth will start to unravel, and I just wanted to warn you guys about the confusion that'll occur.~*~Hansel was insane. How could he just pop up in my school and expected that no one would recognize him? It was a foolish idea, he shouldn't be here.I gripped the strap of my sling bag and looked at Hansel. His hands were tucked inside the pocket of his jeans, looking down at me. I couldn't see his eyes because of his tinted sunglasses, making me frown in confusion. When he shook his head, he motioned me to go inside his car.I hesitantly complied as he also got in and settled on his leather chair. When I shut the door close beside me, I turned my gaze to him."What are you doing here?" I asked, stoic. He removed his sunglasses and drifted his hazel e

  • His Fragile Flame   Chapter 33: Bad At It

The sunlight striking my face caused me to open my eyes and scrunched my nose. It peeked through the open window, just beside the bed I was laying on. I started to roam my eyes around the place I was in, blue-painted and neatly decorated walls. I managed to sit upright from laying down, my head felt heavy, causing me to catch the weight of my head on my palm.I wasn't quite sure if I'd been here before, so I started to look around the place. There was a computer desk placed on the left side of the room, decorated with a pencil stand and some picture frames. There was also a football ball placed beside the basket of clothes near the white plain door. A wooden bookshelf hung above the television in front of the bed I was laying on. The room was neat, and the area smelled like a lit scented candle. Then the memory of last night flashed in my head, and my hangover was taking over my body. My forearms ached, maybe because I slept in the wrong p

  • His Fragile Flame   Chapter 34: Sport's Day

I was walking down the hallway to exit the school. After lunch, we were told to stay for the sports competition that would happen later at the gymnasium. But I wasn't really feeling the urge to watch since I got so many things to do, and I promised myself to clean my apartment. It wasn't a requirement also, so if I went home, they couldn't do anything about it.I walked down the staircase outside of the school's entryway and traipsed down the slabbed pathway. The sun hit the surface of my skin with its burning rays, as the heat started to form on my pale complexion. I diverted my way to the other exit beside the main parking lot, so the large hovering trees could cover the sun from striking my skin. Was it preventing me from going home?I walked through the parking lot shaded with trees as the dried leaves fall off of it. I continued my way, looking straight ahead at the other ends of the lot when I saw Miguel, walking towards my

"Dude, where's Lindsey?" Mason asked curiously, his eyes were fixated to Kourtney."Why are you asking me that?" Daniel irritatedly responded. So I was guessing, Lindsey was supposed to be in the volleyball team, and then Kourtney sabotaged that. How predictable."Kourtney said that his pretty little sister went out with Nicholas because he's leaving tomorrow," Emma spoke, her gaze still glued to her phone as she scrolled down with her thumb. "And they need a back-up athlete because Lindsey bailed out the last minute." She rolled her eyes to us, sliding his phone inside her pocket. It seemed like Kourtney texted her the entire conflict. Then the three of us looked at Daniel. His jaw tightened, his ocean-blue eyes showed nothing but void. It must be really tough for him to accept their breakup, especially when his ex-girlfriend cared more about Nick.Mason's large hand ran on Daniel's back

I knew who I wanted to go with, but I didn't understand why these people suddenly offered to give me a lift. I could take a bus instead, so I wouldn't be pressured to decide. When I darted my eyes to Miguel, he was staring back and forth to Daniel and me as if confused. His eyebrows were raised, and his lips were drawn to a thin line. Then Kourtney and I exchanged looks, but she just wiggled her eyebrows convincingly. I knew she wanted me to hop in Daniel's Harley, and I detested being close to him.Heaving a sigh of frustration, my feet led me closer to his motorcycle. I took a glance at Kourtney and back at Miguel who seemed disappointed. I gave him a half-smile, hating my sudden decision."Yo Kourtney, aren't we gonna leave yet?" Emma called out, shaking all of us from the utter silence."We all should probably head home," Kourtney said with finality. "See you tomorrow." She tugged her lips into a smirk

When I unlocked my apartment's door with Daniel clinging his arm around my shoulder. I quickly went inside and walked towards the couch of my small living room. I plopped him on the loveseat couch, making him wince in pain.He managed to sit upright, leaning his aching back against the couch. He threw his head back and shut his eyes close to relieve the pain. His cheeks were swollen, and blood continued to fall from the wound beside his eye. His firm arms were bruised, some scratches slightly cut his flesh as redness peeked through the open wound. His white uniform top was stained with blood, and there were few missing buttons at the top of his button-up shirt.I moved to the kitchen area and stood in front of the small refrigerator. I opened it, pulling the ice cube mold and put it on top of the counter. I reached for the aid kit placed on top of the sink, grabbing the ice bag, betadine, and some band-aid. When I was done putting ice in t

Trigger warning: there's a mention of an eating disorder in this chapter.~*~It was lunchtime, and the Royals were sat on the dining table in their lounge. The food was served in front of us, with the appetizing aroma of smoking hot steaks. They were literally treating them like Royals, something I was envious of.Kourtney made me sit down beside Daniel, with Amanda and Miguel in front of us. I didn't like where I was sitting, especially I couldn't help but casually glance at Miguel in front of me. He would give me a half-smile and Amanda wouldn't notice. She was looking at the salad that was placed before her, holding her phone beside the plate. We were eating some steak, and a few side dishes they gave to us. Only the clinking of steel on the glass plate was audible, as everyone kept quiet. Not until Kourtney broke the silence."Amanda, why h

The whole ride on the way back to the hotel was quiet. We immediately left Paola’s house after the conversation we had, and Miguel didn’t choose to persuade her more for he understood her situation. All that I could do at that moment was empathize with her for her loss and we did everything we could to not make her feel bad about not helping us. Miguel also had told her to go to their mother which Paola instantly declined since she felt hesitant to show up to him. Then we all bid her goodbye along with Xavier.

The next day, Gwen, Miguel, and I left the hotel in the afternoon along with William’s men. We would be heading to the person Miguel was referring to yesterday and we would try to talk to him or her about Fernando. To be honest, I was full of anticipation and I was being optimistic about the outcome. I wouldn’t deny, I was still a little nervous. We were inside the car and Miguel was in the driver’s seat. Gwen was sitting at the back while I was on the shotgun.

  • His Fragile Flame   Chapter 39: Fernando's Decision

No one knows where the golds are, only your father, I repeated Fernando’s words in my head. I was certain that I knew where my father hid them, and he entrusted those to me that’s why I became the new keeper. Why did he come up to that conclusion? Did the Houstons know that I hid the golds?“You know that my father’s dead, right?” I said, my tone was laced with resentment. “And the treasure didn’t die along with him.”

  • His Fragile Flame   Chapter 38: Bargain With Fernando

Seeing Fernando sitting in front of me was probably one of the most unsettling feelings I’d ever had. I stared at him in awe, trying to hide the anxiousness I suddenly felt at the sight of him. He plastered a stoic face, and only two guards were standing on both sides of Fernando. I was right, he looked just like an Italian mafia boss in his early thirties. But I knew he was older than that, he just appeared younger because there weren’t any apparent wrinkles that formed on his face. I knew where Miguel had inherited his features, and I could already visualize how he would look like when he got old.

I was seated in front of these men who were gawking at me as if I was prey they needed to devour. There were five of them, and Fernando sat in the middle, contemplating. Beside Fernando was Dmitri, smiling mischievously like he was planning something sketchy. They’d locked William up in a chamber, and I was left alone because we got caught. We failed to conceal the secret between Arthur and William, and we were about to escape Mexico when we got caught by Fernando.

  • His Fragile Flame   Chapter 36: Casa De Dela Fuente

We got out of the car and moved closer to the house that looked just like a freaking castle. It was an old-style house, a bit outdated if you would ask me. But it was gorgeous, dark, and foreboding. It was the house you would expect a beast would live in. The house was surrounded by trees that there were dried leaves that scattered all over their unkempt lawn. The grass had grown tall, maybe because no one was staying here and no one looked out for their house. The hedges that ran along the front of their house also looked dehydrated, and they weren’t the luminescent green color we’d always had at our home. This looked more like a haunted mansion that no one would ever dare to stay here for long.

  • His Fragile Flame   Chapter 35: Arrival

I was in a deep slumber for the entire ride that I hadn’t realized that we’d landed already. Though I’d already slept, it seemed like I had just blinked my eyes and now we were here. It was quick, about an hour or two rides that I honestly didn’t expect. Gwen had woken me up when we arrived and we quickly got off the plane. William’s men, who I barely communicate with, held our luggage. When I roamed my eyes around the place, we were taken to another hangar which wasn’t expected.
